I want to share with you a story from 28 years ago. My dad was a used car salesman. Every Thursday night, he would head off to Shreveport, LA for an auction (拍卖会). Most of the time, I drove a car over there for him so he could sell it at the auction.
One day I was riding with my dad when he noticed a hitch-hiker (搭便车的人) with a backpack. Without hesitation, he pulled the car over and offered him a ride. Dad asked him his name, and proceeded to talk to him about all sorts of things. Dad asked him where he was going. The hitch-hiker told him that he was heading for the west. I can’t recall why but he told Dad a lot of things that had occurred to him and that persuaded him to make that decision. He talked about the tragic events that occurred to him several years before. He was in low spirits, but I could see that the hitch-hiker’s attitude was changing as someone was really listening to him.
We drove 45 minutes before the hitch-hiker got off. We pulled over and Dad told him to keep his head up and things would start looking up for him soon. He reached into his pocket and handed the hitch- hiker a twenty-dollar bill. The guy smiled. He nearly lit up right there on the cold, dark highway.
We drove on and my dad did not say a single thing. I was still completely surprised by what I had just witnessed. I was always told by everyone never to pick up a hitch-hiker and yet my dad did it every single time he saw one. While reflecting upon that story I came to understand that just one single kind act could change someone’s life. And I am sure that my father’s deed made that poor man’s day.
24.What made the hitch-hiker become less upset?
A.The writer’s father talking to him about all sorts of things.
B.The writer’s father offering him a free ride.
C.The writer’s father really listening to him.
D.The writer’s father agreeing to drive him to his destination.
25.When his father helped the hitch-hiker, the writer ___________.
A.was deeply moved B.strongly disagreed
C.admired his father D.couldn’t understand
26.Which of the following words can be used to describe the father?
A.Wealthy. B.Warm-hearted.
C.Far-sighted. D.Adventurous.
27.What’s the writer’s main purpose of writing this text?
A.To tell a story of his father.
B.To show his respect for his father.
C.To prove his father is the best teacher.
D.To advise people to learn from the hitch-hiker.

Is there a way to turn back the clock on your age? A new study says yes. Exercise can make you look younger. At least it can lower your fitness age—that is the measure of how well your body works.
A study of athletes in the National Senior Games found that their fitness age was more than 20 years younger than their chronological age. The games took place in the Midwestern state of Minnesota.
Tony Diamond took part in the games. Every morning he went to a local park and walked fast for an hour. Then, the retired navy captain ran for an hour.
Two or three times a week, he went to a gym for muscle(肌肉) training. Mr. Diamond won three medals at the 2015 National Senior Games.
“My current age is 86 years old, and my fitness age is 44. I think I am in such good physical condition because I do a lot of exercise during my life. I have been exercising since I was a little boy,” said Mr. Diamond.
“I'm 62 years old and my fitness results showed that I was 32 years,” said Ms White.
Ms. White and Mr. Diamond are some of the 5,000 Senior Games participants who took part in the fitness age study.
Pamela Peeke was an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Maryland. She worked on the study with Ulrik Wisloff at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Mr Wisloff developed a fitness calculator.
An online calculator is available for anyone to use for free. Ms. Peeke says there are benefits from attending this test.
The National Senior Games take place every two years. They are the competition for athletes older than 50. The games include a variety of sports.
This year the average age of the people competing was 68. But their average fitness age was 43.
28.What can make us look younger?

29.What’s the meaning of the underlined words “chronological age” in Paragraph 2?

30.The example of Tony Diamond is used to ________.
A.support the main idea of the passage
B.prove more people like taking exercise
C.encourage more people to take exercise
D.show many people pay attention to beauty
31.From the passage we may safely draw a conclusion that ________.
A.the faster you walk, the healthier you are
B.the older you are, the more exercise you need

What you do after studying could have a big effect on how well you learn and remember. Today on Education Tips, we will explore two no-cost ways that can help you improve your learning: wakeful rest and sleep.
When many students finish studying, they often go straight to another activity. Perhaps they look at their phone or computer. They might even play a video game or watch television. But research suggests that resting after your study may help you remember what you have studied.
The basic idea is this: by stopping your activity after the study, your brain gets a chance to rest. Resting is difficult when you are playing computer games.
While this might sound unusual to you, many studies have explored the benefits of resting after learning—what is called “wakeful rest”.
A 2019 study found that both young and older adults were able to better remember information they learned after doing wakeful rest.
If you want to give “wakeful rest” a try, here are a few simple things to do. Rest quietly for five to ten minutes. Do not look at your phone, read stories or play games. It is really that easy!
Besides wakeful rest, sleep is also important for learning. The Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School (HMS) notes that sleep helps people to learn in two ways. A report on the school’s website explains that “a sleep-deprived person cannot focus attention well and therefore cannot learn well”. It also says, “Sleep itself helps us to memorize and that memorizing is very important for learning new information.”
The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) suggests that adults between the ages of 20 and 64 get between 7 and 9 hours of sleep per day. Teenagers may need a little bit more, and people over the age of 65 may need a little less.
Try to get some “wakeful rest” after a study. Then try to get a good night’s sleep. That’s it—a simple, no-cost way to help you remember what you learn.
32.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The importance of sleep. B.The good ways to get a rest.
C.The reason for having a rest. D.The types of resting activities.
33.Which activity might be recommended shortly after studying?
A.Reading a newspaper. B.Playing a video game.
C.Sitting there doing nothing. D.Having a nice sleep at night.
34.How long should teenagers sleep each day according to NSF?
A.Less than 7 hours. B.Just 7 hours.
C.No more than 9 hours. D.Around 9 hours.
35.What can be a suitable title for the text?
A.Low-cost Tips on Working B.Good Things to Do After Your Study
C.Why Do We Need to Have a Good Sleep? D.How Long Should We Rest After Learning?

Little Tom was a student in senior high school. He was not good at his work and failed many times in the exams, and he never knew why he couldn’t catch up with others.
One day, Tom and his teacher were walking through the forest. He was disturbed by the fact that his mind was in constant unrest. He asked his teacher, “Why most people’s minds are restless, and only a few have a calm mind? What can one do to calm the mind down?”
The teacher looked at Tom, smiled and told him a story:
On one beautiful day, an elephant was standing by the shade of a tree, eating its leaves. Suddenly, a small fly came buzzingly and landed on the elephant’s ear. The elephant stayed calm and continued eating, ignoring the fly. The fly flew around the elephant’s ear, buzzing noisily, yet the elephant seemed to be unaffected. This confused the fly, and it asked, “Are you deaf?”
“No!” the elephant answered.
“Why aren’t you bothered by my buzz?” the fly asked.
“Why are you so restless and noisy? Why can’t you stay calm just for a few moments?” asked the elephant, and peacefully continued eating the leaves.
The fly answered, “Everything I see, hear and feel attracts my attention, and all noises and movements around me affect my behavior.”
“What is your secret? How can you stay so calm and still, while I am buzzing around your ears?”
“I can continue eating peacefully, because my five senses do not disturb my peace.”
“How is it possible?” asked the fly amazed and confused.
“Because I don’t let them rule my attention,” answered the elephant.
“I am in control of my mind and my thoughts, and therefore, I can direct my attention where I want, and ignore any disturbance including your buzz.”
“And therefore,” continued the elephant, “I am completely lost in the act of eating, enjoying my food and chewing it peacefully.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

M: Do you have anything earlier? I have an appointment at 8: 30. I’ve got to be there at least an hour ahead of time.
4.B
M: Hey, this photocopier looks nice, the X40.
W: Hmm. A bit expensive. The RX200 looks fast. It does 25 copies a minute.
M: So does the BT100. And it’s cheaper and smaller. Let’s get this one.
5.A
W: Mark, do you know what is on TV?

W: Hey, relax. Just talk about something you know they’re interested in.
M: That’s the case. I don’t know what these friends are interested in.
W: For example, you can talk about the weather.
M: You must be joking. The weather is boring.
W: In this way you can find out what they like to do. On a sunny day, you say, “What do you do in such great weather? ”
M: Well, I’ll give it a try.
8.B 9.C
W: Good morning. Can I help you?
M: I’d like to make a complaint about my holiday in Portugal last week.
W: I’m sorry to hear that. What exactly was the problem?
M: First of all, the coach taking us to the hotel broke down and we had to wait for over two hours before a replacement arrived. Then when we got to the hotel we found out the room was small and hadn’t been cleaned.
W: Oh dear!
M: Anyway, that’s not all. The people in the room above us sounded like they were having all-night parties, every night. I demanded another room but the receptionist told me the hotel was full.
W: I do apologise.

M: Hey, Deb, let’s go to a movie. You’ve been working on these bills for hours now.
W: You’re impossible!
M: Why?
W: Haven’t I been telling you that we can barely make ends meet?
M: But I’ve been trying to cut down on our expenses lately.
W: Well, maybe, but you’ve been turning up the heat to 70 degrees Fahrenheit every day and that’s been costing us an additional $70 to $80 a month.
M: Deb, you know I’ve had to do that. I get sick every single time the temperature goes below 68 degrees Fahrenheit.
W: Oh, oh. Look at this telephone bill! It’s for $90! That’s impossible! Have you been making calls to Edison, New York?
M: Oh, yeah. I did make just one call there last month.
W: Well, they charged us for four calls. Mmm. I’ll have to call them and figure it out.

M: Hey Susie! How’ve you been?
W: Pretty good...Just trying to keep up with class work. I have to hand in an essay on Monday. That is killing me! I keep sitting down to work on it, but just end up with nothing. I paid attention in class, but I just don’t think I understand the task quite right.
M: Yeah, be patient. I’m preparing a play. My group have already met many times, but we aren’t quite ready yet. That wasn’t exactly the hardest part of our study.
W: Oh, I’m really looking forward to Spring Break.
M: Me, too. Will you come to Jason’s birthday party tonight?
W: Well, actually I made plans with my mum to take part in a 10-kilometre run to benefit a cancer research. That’s Saturday morning, so it isn’t a great time to go out.
M: But if you want to stop by earlier this evening, feel free.
W: Uh...Maybe I’ll see you tonight. Will you come to the race tomorrow?
M: Alright. I actually know a brave kid fighting with cancer and I want to help people with cancer.

W: Now, as you’re new, I’m just going to show you a map of the hospital and point out a few key places. At the moment, we’re in the main building, that’s there...and if you go out of the main entrance and just along the main road to the east, you’ll find the staff leisure center. There’s a range of things that you can do here to help you relax. If you get ill, we do have a health center for all employees, and this is directly behind the main hospital building. And there is a small garden next to it. Many of you might like to go to the 24-hour swimming pool. They’re very close by, and it doesn’t cost much money to get in. If you walk out of the main building, there’s a road straight ahead of you. Go down that and turn left into Tye Road — you’ll see the pool entrance at the end of that road. Finally, if you want a healthy meal and you have very little time to get it, of course there’s always the dining hall inside the main building. But I would recommend a place called Jenny’s Restaurant which is near the main building. You can get a number of excellent dishes here at a reasonable price. Well, I think that’s all. Thank you.

根据最后一段中的“We drove on and my dad did not say a single thing. I was still completely surprised by what I had just witnessed. I was always told by everyone never to pick up a hitch-hiker and yet my dad did it every single time he saw one.(我们继续开车,爸爸一句话也没说。我仍然对刚才所目睹的一切感到十分惊讶。每个人都告诉我不要搭便车的人搭乘,但我爸爸每次看到搭便车的人都会让他们搭车)”可知,作者一直听到的都是不要让搭便车的人搭车,但是这次父亲不仅让人搭车还给这人20美元,这让作者非常惊讶,他不知道父亲为什么这么做;由此可指,父亲帮助这个搭车人的时候作者不能理解父亲这种做法。故选D。
26.推理判断题。根据第二段第一句“One day I was riding with my dad when he noticed a hitch-hiker (搭便车的人) with a backpack. Without hesitation, he pulled the car over and offered him a ride.(一天,爸爸正开车带着我时,他注意到一个背着背包的搭便车者。他毫不犹豫地把车停在路边,让他搭车。)”以及第三段中“We pulled over and Dad told him to keep his head up and things would start looking up for him soon. He reached into his pocket and handed the hitch- hiker a twenty-dollar bill. (我们把车停在路边,爸爸告诉他要昂起头来,他很快就会好转的。他把手伸进口袋,递给搭车人一张二十美元的钞票。)”可知,父亲不仅让人搭车,得知搭车人的困境看到对方很沮丧时,鼓励对方并给对方钱来帮助对方;由最后一段中的“I was always told by everyone never to pick up a hitch-hiker and yet my dad did it every single time he saw one.(每个人都告诉我不要搭顺风车,但我爸爸每次看到顺风车都这样做。)”
根据文章第一段“I want to share with you a story from 28 years ago. My dad was a used car salesman. Every Thursday night, he would head off to Shreveport, LA for an auction (拍卖会). Most of the time, I drove a car over there for him so he could sell it at the auction.(我想和大家分享一个28年前的故事。我爸爸是个二手车推销员。每周四晚上,他都会前往洛杉矶什里夫波特参加一场拍卖会。”)、最后一段中“While reflecting upon that story I came to understand that just one single kind act could change someone’s life. And I am sure that my father’s deed made that poor man’s day. (当我回想起这个故事时,我明白了一个简单的善举可以改变一个人的一生。我敢肯定,我父亲的行为使那个可怜的人高兴了一天。)”以及文中所讲述的父亲去参加拍卖会的路上搭载了一个搭便车的人并且给他钱的故事可知,作者在文章中回忆了28年前父亲让别人搭便车并帮助对方的故事;因此,作者写这篇文章的主要目的是为了讲述28年前发生在父亲身上的一个故事。故选A。

67.After listening to the story, Tom’s eyes opened wide and smiled. He looked at his teacher and said, “I now understand! When I am doing something, I am always not paying attention and I am easily disturbed by the things around me. So my mind is always in constant unrest. If I focus my attention on the things that I am doing, I will not care about whatever happens in the world around me and I will control my five senses and control my mind.” “Yes, that’s right,’’ the teacher answered.
From that day on, he paid his attention to whatever he was doing. In class, his attention was completely fixed on what the teacher was saying, and he didn’t talk with his deskmate any more, which made his deskmate amazed. When he was doing his homework no matter what was going on outside, he was not affected. His parents were surprised at his change and asked what had happened to him. He told the story about the fly and the elephant to them. Because of his efforts, he made great progress in the final examination.
