Habit is a behaviour you do regularly (有规律的). As a professor who studies how to help students become better readers and writers, I can tell you that research shows habits have a loop (循环). Here are the things you need to make a studying loop:
●A set time to study every day.
●A cue (提示) to start studying.
●An environment that helps you stick to your studying routine (常规).
●A prize for studying.
When you do things at the same time every day, it is easier to remember to do them. To determine how much time you should set aside each day to study, multiply (乘) your grade level by 10 minutes. That means if you’re in third grade, you would plan to spend about 30 minutes per day studying. Spending more time than that on a regular basis can cause stress, anxiety and possibly destroy healthy sleep habits.
Studying at the same time every day is one cue. but you may need something more specific when first forming your habit. This can be a calendar reminder you set on your phone. or something as simple as a card with the word “study” printed on the front.
To help yourself study, you need a place set up for work and not for doing other things. Do not study on your bed— that’s for sleeping— or in front of the television, or anywhere it’s difficult to hold and use the materials you need. Best option: a table or desk with good lighting. Your study place should limit distractions (干扰). That includes other people’s conversations and all media: TV, video games, social media, texts or music.
The prize. That said, after you finish studying, you can give yourself a little gaming or social media time as your prize. With time, the studying itself will become its own prize. Improving your knowledge and skills will give you a sense of achievement and make you more confident and happier at school. But while forming your study habit, a really fun prize will help you stick with it.
29. What are the four parts of a habit loop?
A. Hobby, cue, routine, prize. B. Set time, cue, environment, prize.
C. Hobby, cue, environment, achievement. D. Hobby, environment, routine, achievement.
30. How long should a fourth-grade student spend studying each day?
A. 10 minutes. B. 20 minutes. C. 30 minutes. D. 40 minutes.
31. What can your study place keep according to the author?
A. A comfortable bed. B. A desk with a TV.
C. A table with good lighting. D. A table with a music player.
32. What’s the best title for the text?
A. What Is the Most Reasonable Way to Study?
B. How Can You Make Studying a Daily Habit?
C. How to Get Rid of Distractions While Studying?
D. What Should You Do to Become a Better Learner?
D
What is a family? Why does it matter? What does it teach us that we can’t learn on our own? These questions seem especially relevant in the holiday season when it is often our tradition to gather as families and celebrate together.
My mother was one of twelve children. As they grew up, married and had children of their own, most of them lived near enough to gather for holidays at my grandparents’ home in a small town in the mountains of North Carolina.
I don’t recall getting many gifts from them. I remember the sense of belonging, of being part of something that assured me I was loved and not alone.
I delighted in the laughing, playing and fighting with my crazy cousins.
I watched my granddad and uncles sit on the porch (门廊), rain or shine, smoking and joking, arguing about politics and trying to solve the problems of the world.
I listened to my grandmother, mother and aunts stir pots on the stove and talk about their lives, hopes, dreams and disappointments, and gossip about any sister who failed to show up.
The food was always plentiful and delicious – country ham, sweet potatoes, green beans, biscuits and my grandmother’s banana pudding. But for me, the food was never the highlight. The highlight was simply being together. A family.
However, they’re all gone now. My parents and grandparents, my aunts and uncles have left this world for the next. My cousins are scattered (分散) here and there. And yet the memories linger, along with the love that we shared.
I treasure those memories and the things they taught me. They told me that families aren’t perfect, but they prepare us to find our way in an imperfect world. They made me realize that all families are crazy in their own peculiar (独特的) ways.
My husband and I are growing a new family, while keeping close to the surviving members of the families. It’s a beautiful blend (混合) of kindness, traditions, nurturing (养育) and friendships, which grows year after year.
I hope this holiday season will fill you with lovely memories of the family that raised you, and surround you with all the people who mean “family” to you now.
33. The author appreciated the gatherings mainly because ________.
A. special gifts were selected thoughtfully B. there was a lot of inviting food
C. they brought the family closer together D. she got to see relatives who seldom visited
34. What did the author learn from her families?
A. Imperfection can be perfect sometimes. B. Teaching by example is better than teaching by words.
C. We have to live with imperfections. D. It’s necessary to create peculiar family traditions.
35. The author wrote this article mainly to ________.
A. share the significance of family B. describe her family relationships
C. recall the memories of family gatherings D. share her thoughts about big families

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Do you want to be at the top of your class?Add these tips to your life and you should be on your way to being a top student!
36 I cannot stress(强调)enough how important it is to pay attention to what your teacher is teaching you. Take part in class discussions if you have something worthwhile to add. Pay attention during class, especially during lectures.
Taking notes is important. You don't need to write down every word your teacher says but write down what he writes on the board, or any special fact you think you might need for a test. 37 This way it will help you learn more effectively by actually thinking about what you are writing.
Don't skip school(逃学).You will be missing out on stuff. 38 However, you will have more work because you have missed lectures. Also, try not to be late for class. It's most likely that your teacher won't appreciate it and you will get yourself behind.
39 If you have an "I don't care about school or this class" attitude, then teachers will be less willing to offer you extra credit(学分).The same goes for lazy attitude. Have a respectful attitude to the teacher and other students. Try not to laugh when other students make a mistake.
Always ask questions. 40 If you don't understand, ask someone. Read your textbook and notes, and then if that fails, seek help. Ask a teacher, friend, classmate, parent, etc. Get a tutor if you need one.
A.Be prepared.
B.Write in your own words.
C.Staying organized will be helpful.
D.Keep a good attitude toward things.
E. There is no shame in needing some help.
F. It is true that you could make up the work.
G. Pay attention to everything the teacher says.

第二节 语法填空(共10小题; 每小题1.5分,满分15分)

Friendship is one of the most important 56 (thing) in everyone’s life. 57 is very difficult to find a better definition (定义) of friendship. A true friend is the person 58 can share all our sadness and all our happiness. In time of trial (尝试), he or she 59 (be) always at our side to give us his or her help and comfort.
Knowing how valuable friendship is, we should be very 60 (care) with our choice of a friend. We should 61 (choice) those people with a good character as our friends, but we must try to avoid 62 (make) friends with a bad man. Besides, we should forgive their mistakes and try 63 (help) them as much as possible.
A true friend can always be trusted, loved and 64 (respect). If you tell a friend your secrets, he or she will not tell others. Friends share their joys or unhappiness. They help each other when they are 65 trouble, and cheer each other up when they are sad. The most important thing is that a friend always understands you. In a word, when you have made a good friend, don’t forget him or her.

Everyone in my drama class saw the paper in my hands shaking when I stood up to try out for a lead role in the yearly school Thanksgiving play. I was there because the teacher wanted everyone to try out for a part.
Being shy and not confident, I began nervously reading the part for the main character, Star. She had no parents. Feeling so sorry for her, I finished reading.
Later when reading the name list, the teacher looked at me and announced, “Patty, you play Star. Come and get your script(剧本).”I was shocked. Jim, an excellent boy, was playing the other lead.To learn my lines, I practiced every day and finally memorized them. I became more confident and happier.
Then we started practising acting. Jim played the character, a Scrooge(吝啬鬼), who is unwilling to put a candle in his window so that the light will show passers-by the slippery(打滑的) ice on the path below. On the Thanksgiving day, Star comes along, falls on the ice and gets injured.
Finally feeling bad, the Scrooge helps her up. To thank him, Star kisses his hand.
One day, before our drama class started, I saw a terrible drawing of me on the blackboard with words: Falling Star. I was laughed at by someone.
The teacher asked, “Who did this?” Nobody knew. We started rehearsing(排练), but my heart wasn’t in it. The teacher told me not to care about the silly trick; it wouldn’t happen again. But I was sad and anxious, wanting to quit. Finally I moved on and continually worked hard for the play.
Soon it was the day before the show. It was time for the dress rehearsal. I was excited. Everything went smoothly(顺利的) at the dress rehearsal until the scene where I slipped on the ice and the Scrooge helped me up.
When I kissed his hand, a terrible noise and laughter sounded from behind the set. I quickly left the stage and hurried into an empty room. With tears, I said, “I can’t do it. Please get someone else!”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;2.请按如下格式作答。
Suddenly, I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder.

第一节
Dear John,
There will be a lecture about traffic safety at 7 pm next Monday. I’m writing to invite you to attend it.
Organized by our school, it will be held in the school hall. There are three parts of the lecture. At first, our headmaster will give a speech on behalf of the school. Then some traffic policemen coming from our city will show us some pictures about traffic accidents. In addition, they will teach us many traffic rules to remind us to pay attention to traffic safety.
I believe the lecture will be educational. I'm looking forward to your attendance.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节
Suddenly, I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder. I heard voices and a warm hand took mine. I looked up and saw concerned faces. Jim and several other classmates had come after me. “Please, don’t drop out...” they said and tried to comfort me. Later, the teacher found the troublemaker Peter, who loved making silly tricks. And he apologized to me. Encouraged by my friendly teacher and so many kind classmates, I went back onstage and finished the scene with no further interruptions.
The following Thanksgiving day, we were ready for the play. Throughout the performance, we could hear laughter from the audience from time to time. When the performance was over, they gave us a big round of applause. In the following weeks, schoolmates often came up to say, “You were good!” I was glad my hard work and determination as well as many people’s support had helped me to perform successfully. It positively shaped my later life.
