Unit1 Reading for Writing
课时内容
Write a letter of advice

Possible version 1
Dear Eric,
You wrote that your parents won't listen to you when you tell them things.I quite understand that you are really worried and feel terrible now. Here are some of my suggestions.
First of all, I recommend that you should write a letter to your parents by yourself. Because it can help them understand you and know more about your thoughts. What's more, I think you should listen to them first and learn to understand each other. Because understanding is mutual, you shouldn't always ask them to listen to you. You should listen to them as well. In the end, why not sit down and communicate with them directly. Personally, I think it is the most useful way. I'm sure that they will listen to you if you take my advice.
I hope you will find these suggestions helpful.
Yours,
Li Hua
Possible version 2
Dear Xu Ting,
You wrote that you always feel lonely after school because your parents work in another city. I quite understand that you miss your parents very much and feel lonely every day. Here are my suggestions.
To begin with, I recommend that you should learn about what your parents do and try your best to understand them. Because whatever they do, they are good with you and they love you best. Besides, I think you should call them and talk about the problem with them directly. Because I think it is the most useful way to solve the problem. Last but not least, why not go to the city where they work to visit them? I think they will feel happy and touched when they see you. I'm sure that you will feel less lonely than before.
I hope you will find these suggestions helpful.
Yours,
Li Hua

II.读后续写
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
I have been in the teaching profession for more than thirty years, and one of the best teachers I have ever known is Mr Rowe. I was lucky enough to teach fourth grade together with him.
Mr Rowe had endless patience and understanding and I learnt so much from watching him. He could perform miracles, like the one he performed with Steven, one of the unhappiest kids I had ever seen.Steven couldn't stand school. He didn't like being picked last for kickball. He didn't like the kids who
raised their hands and knew all the answers, and maost importantly, he didn't like himself.
The first day he walked into Mr Rowe's classroom, he ignored the other students, looking angry and annoyed, and slid into his chair, knocking a couple of textbooks onto the floor.
Mr Rowe walked over to him and touched Steven's shoulder, but Steven pulled away. Nevertheless,Mr Rowe welcomed him: “Hi, Steven. I'm happy you are in my class. We are gonna have a great year." Steven looked around the room as if Mr Rowe must be mistaken. No teacher in his right mind would want Steven to be part of his classroom.
So, while Mr Rowe seemed cheerful and relaxed that day of school, it seemed like Steven was angry and confused.
That day after classes, Mr Rowe chose Steven to pitch(投球)the kickball at recess.“Hey,Steven,”Mr Rowe commented, “You are good at pitching.Let me show you my secret trick." Mr Rowe taught Steven one of the tricks that not a single kid could perform. Steven learnt fast and did quite well!Everyone cheered for him!
After the kickball, Steven sat as close to Mr Rowe in classes as he could. When a question was asked, Steven lit up; when he knew the answer, he raised his hand; when he answered the question, his voice shook. However, he got the answer right! He said, with Mr Rowe, his days of the fourth grade promised wonderful.
That is not to say that every day went smoothly, but it was obvious that Steven grew to love Mr Rowe more and more with each passing day.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
Time passed quickly that year, and before we all knew it, it was the last day of school.
Many years later, Mr Rowe and I were surprised when a handsome young man walked into our classroom, dressed in the army uniform.

I.A One possible version:
Dear Chris,
I'm Li Jin, a student at Chenguang High School. I got the news that your school will send teachers to my school for a week-long summer exchange. During the activity, you will give a lecture on Western art. You want to seek for advice on what topic the lecture will be about. From my point of view, music is my priority.
I am interested in all kinds of music, among which Jazz is my favourite. I want to know about the history of jazz, and some famous jazz singers. I woud appreciate it if you can add some sessions of enjoying jazz.
Thank you for your time.
Yours,
Li Jin
B One possible version:
Dear Editor,
Here I write to tell you about my experiencein the zoo last Sunday. I feel terribly sorry and ashamed of what people did to the animals.
There were many animals kept in the zoo and it
seemed that they were not being treated well. I saw many visitors threw some stones at them and some visitors even poured water onto a big bear's head. Some people just looked and laughed, but no one thought those actions were wrong.
Here is what we should do. First, we should make people know animals are our friends and important to us. Second, anyone who treats animals badly should be fined. Last, if people can't stop doing so, my suggestion is that these animals be set free in nature.
I hope you can help call on peopleto love and respect animals.
Thank you.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
II.One possible version:
Time passed quickly that year, and before we all knew it, it was the last day of school. Our school had a very special tradition on the last day. All the teachers filled the sidewalk, waving goodbye to the kids as the bus pulled out with its horn honking. But on that particular day, Steven walked slowly to the bus, his head down, tears in his eyes. He boarded the bus reluctantly, hesitated, and then ran back off the bus to hug Mr Rowe. "I don't want to leave you." He sobbed. With red-rimmed eyes, Mr Rowe comforted him,“I will miss you, too."
Many years later, Mr Rowe and I were surprised when a handsome young man walked into our classroom, dressed in the army uniform. The young man stood tall and proud. It was Steven! Mr Rowe and I couldn't believe our eyes. He saluted and hugged Mr Rowe tightly! "I have come back to school today just to say thanks to you!" It is my hope that every teacher is blessed with such a wonderful experience of a former student coming back to say, simply to say a very simple THANKS.
