In the north of England, it will be windy in the morning. But it will start raining in the afternoon. Temperatures will be around fifty-five degrees. Now for Scotland and Northern Ireland. The app is a social media platform where people share snippets (片段) of their lives and content they consider worth sharing, and it’s also a space to communicate with others. While all those are obviously great things, it comes with many negative aspects. Number 1 on the list of problems is the scrolling (滚屏) addiction. The Internet is overflowing with con tent and our “Far You” page is an unending supplier of it. What I’ve come to learn through my own experience is that after some time we become so used to scrolling that it becomes a reflex action (反射动作) for us to do so whenever we’re bored. Before I used the app, I really loved writing and reading books. However, after I used it, everything changed for me. All I wanted to do was to be on my phone. Scrolling was just making me feel tired and lazy and my creativity was lost. I wasn’t feeling motivated enough to get myself out of the bad cycle I’d fallen into. Finally, I realized that I was stuck. I knew I needed to get out of it. It didn’t just happen overnight though. It took me a few weeks to finally stop using the app. Now I can concentrate on reading and writing again. I’m glad I’ve made the right decision. I know many young people are struggling now just like I used to. If you think using social media platforms is negatively affecting your life, then take action to quit it. I’ve managed to do that. You can do it, too. 24. What does the author think is the biggest problem of using the app? A. Being addicted to scrolling. B. Sharing too much about one’s life. C. Making one get bored easily. D. Having’ difficulty in finding good content. 25. How did the app influence the author? A. She became more creative. B. She became interested, in online stories. C. She developed some new hobbies. D. She couldn’t focus on reading and writing. 26. What do we know about the author’s quitting the app? A. She failed many times. B. She succeeded gradually. C. She managed it overnight. D. She got help from her parents. 27. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To tell her story of using social media. B. To show how she began to write again. C. To show social media is a double edged sword. D. To warn young people not to be addicted to social media. 24. A 25. D 26. B 27. All I wanted to do was to be on my phone. Scrolling was just making me feel tired and lazy and my creativity was lost. 根据文章第四段中的“Finally, I realized that I was stuck. I knew I needed to get out of it. It didn’t just happen overnight though. It took me a few weeks to finally stop using the app.(最后,我意识到我被困住了。 根据文章最后一段中的“If you think using social media platforms is negatively affecting your life, then take action to quit it. I’ve managed to do that. You can do it, too.(如果你认为使用社交媒体平台对你的生活有负面影响,那就采取行动戒掉它。 D。 C Study abroad programs offer an educational and rewarding experience for students. Travelling to another country is one way to fully understand that country’s culture. Visiting other countries can give students a greater appreciation of different ways of life and expand their education beyond the typical college setting. For example, a student studying a foreign language might want to spend time in a country where that language is widely used not only for the language benefits but for the customs that go with the language. Or, a student studying the culinary (烹饪) arts might find visiting other countries and learning about their foods and styles to be very useful. Study abroad programs are offered in every career path. The different perspectives (思维方式) that students can gain after studying in a different country can open many doors for their future. My own experiences in Europe have taught me to appreciate different cultures. I have a growing admiration for other nations after having visited them. All college students should experience another culture at least once in their lives. While study abroad programs are becoming very popular, there is one big negative thing. Travel, housing and personal expenses aren’t cheap. If the cost of living elsewhere for a while could be lowered, or if all students could get help paying for the trip, study- abroad programs could be the perfect experience. If students want to expand their education or simply want to experience life in a completely different way, the money spent is well worth it. And although travelling abroad takes time away from family and friends at home, students can acquire new friends and relationships abroad. To conclude, study abroad programs can be costly but can greatly benefit students. 28. Why is the example mentioned in Paragraph 2? A. To show the benefits of studying abroad. B. To encourage people to live abroad. C. To prove different ways of learning cultures. D. To show the importance of studying a language. 29. What can we learn about the author? A. She is a college student now. B. She appreçiates other cultures. C. She was born in a European country. D. She visited few countries as a student. 30. What is the author’s opinion on studying abroad? A. It’s worrying. B. It’s difficult. C. It’s expensive. D. It’s relaxing. 31. What’s the text mainly about? A. Benefits of travelling around the world. B. Ways of appreciating different cultures. C. Personal experiences of studying abroad. D. Advantages and disadvantages of studying abroad. A 29. B 30. C 31. 根据第二段中的“For example, a student studying a foreign language might want to spend time in a country where that language is widely used not only for the language benefits but for the customs that go with the language.(例如,一个学习一门外语的学生可能想在一个语言被广泛使用的国家呆上一段时间,不仅是为了语言的好处,而且是为了语言的习俗)”可推知,第二段中的例子是为了展示出国留学的好处。故选A项。 根据第四段中的“My own experiences in Europe have taught me to appreciate different cultures.(我在欧洲的经历教会了我欣赏不同的文化)”可知,作者对其他文化表示赞赏。 根据第五段“While study abroad programs are becoming very popular, there is one big negative thing. 结合第一段“Study abroad programs offer an educational and rewarding experience for students.(留学项目为学生提供了一种教育和有益的经历)”和最后一段“To conclude, study abroad programs can be costly but can greatly benefit students.(总之,出国留学项目可能会很昂贵,但对学生有很大的好处)”并通读全文可知,文章主要讨论了出国留学的优缺点。故选D项。 D Watching an ocean wave running against the coast is beyond magical. But there is one type of wave — the cross sea wave — that is beyond anything you may have ever experienced. Although still attractive, cross sea waves are dangerous and have been responsible for many ship accidents. Before we get into the physics of cross sea waves, let’s get to know how ocean waves are generated. The wind is mostly responsible for the creation of ocean waves. As the wind blows, it moves energy to the surface of the water, creating a constant disturbance (干扰) that results in a wave crest (波峰) . Waves generally run parallel (平行地) to the shore, but a cross sea wave is different. It’s created when the wind from two weather systems — one old, the other new — runs against each other. Cross sea waves generally occur along coastal areas, and they are rare. Yet, there is one place along the west coast of France, where cross sea waves occur quite often. Because of the geology (地质状况) of the Isle of Rhé, it’s perfectly situated for their creation. The sight of the waves brings thousands of tourists to the island’s lighthouse each year. When a cross sea wave blows, it will be difficult for boaters to control their ships or boats, as well as swimmers. Part of the reason why cross sea waves are so dangerous is that they generate powerful waves, which can reach nearly 10 feet (3 meters) high, more than enough to turn over a large boat. Cross sea waves are usually found in shallow waters, such as those off the Isle of Rhé, and Tel Aviv, Israel. Since it is so exciting to watch the cross sea waves, these places attract millions of visitors each year, making them famous tourist destinations on Earth. 32. What caused many ship accidents? A. Cross sea waves. B. Ocean waves. C. Wave crests. D. Wind systems. 33. What does the underlined word “generated” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Changed. B. Increased. C. Produced. D. Challenged. 34. Why are cross sea waves often seen on the Isle of Rhé? A. Because of the powerful ocean waves. B. Because of different wind systems. C. Because of the powerful wave crests. D. Because of its special geological situation. 35. What is the fourth paragraph mainly about? A. The creation of cross sea waves. B. The danger of cross sea waves. C. The sight of cross sea waves. D. The height of cross sea waves. A 33. C 34. D 35. 根据文章第一段中的“Although still attractive, cross sea waves are dangerous and have been responsible for many ship accidents. 故选A项。 根据文章第二段中的“The wind is mostly responsible for the creation of ocean waves. 根据文章第三段中的“Because of the geology (地质状况) of the Isle of Rhé, it’s perfectly situated for their creation. 根据文章第四段中的“When a cross sea wave blows, it will be difficult for boaters to control their ships or boats, as well as swimmers. Tips to build self- discipline (自律) in students Set clear goals We have to keep in mind where we want to go and what we want to finish: If we don’t set clear goals, we’ll float around like feathers in the wind. Then show these goals where you will see them every day. ___36___ So I made a plan each day and ran 15 miles a week. Every day, I looked at those goals and made sure I had achieved them. Stay positive ___37___, instead of getting discouraged just take notes about it and challenge yourself not to let it happen again. Think positive and use your mistakes to your advantage! A positive mind and attitude can go a long way towards your success as a student. Do the small things We all want big changes to happen quickly ___38___ Self-discipline starts by performing small and ordinary activities consistently. Every small act of faithfulness makes your self- discipline stronger. ___39___ No one likes to sleep in more than I do. I am entirely a night owl (夜猫子). However, when I’m in the habit of getting up early, I am much more disciplined and productive. Getting up early doesn’t give us the ability to create miracles, but it does help us start our day’s work in a focused way. Apart from the above tips, keeping track of your progress is also important. It’s easy to lack discipline when you lose focus on where you’re going. ___40___ A. Get up early. B. And when I breathe deeply. C. I ended up in bed for six weeks. D. It usually doesn’t happen that way. E. Several years ago, I wanted to lose 20 pounds. F. If you feel you are losing control of your actions G. Keeping track helps you stay in the right direction. E 37. F 38. D 39. A 40. 【36题详解】 根据上文“We have to keep in mind where we want to go and what we want to finish: If we don’t set clear goals, we’ll float around like feathers in the wind.(我们要明确我们的目标和想要完成的事情,如果我们不设定明确的目标,我们就会像风中的羽毛一样漂泊不定)”和下文“So I made a plan each day and ran 15 miles a week.(所以我每天制定计划,每周跑15英里。)” E:Several years ago, I wanted to lose 20 pounds(几年前,我想减掉20磅)正好符合这一语境,因为它提供了一个明确的目标(减掉20磅),并暗示了后续的行动计划。故选E。 【37题详解】 本段小标题为Stay positive(保持积极态度),根据下文“instead of getting discouraged just take notes about it and challenge yourself not to let it happen again.(与其灰心丧气,不如记录下来,并挑战自己不要再让它发生)”可知,空处需要填入一个与面对困难或失败时的态度相关的句子。选项F:If you feel you are losing control of your actions(如果你觉得你正在失去对你行动的控制。) 【38题详解】 本段小标题为Do the small things(做小事),上文提到“We all want big changes to happen quickly.(我们都希望大的改变能迅速发生。)”但根据后文“Self-discipline starts by performing small and ordinary activities consistently.(自律始于持续不断地执行小而普通的活动。)” D:It usually doesn’t happen that way.(通常情况并不是这样的。) 根据后文“No one likes to sleep in more than I do. I am entirely a night owl (夜猫子) . However, when I’m in the habit of getting up early, I am much more disciplined and productive.(没有人比我更喜欢赖床了。 选项A:Get up early.(早起。) 故选A。 前文提到“Apart from the above tips, keeping track of your progress is also important. It’s easy to lack discipline when you lose focus on where you’re going. G:Keeping track helps you stay in the right direction.(跟踪有助于你保持在正确的方向上。) Brian Everett from. While we were skiing, at some point we got totally separated from the group, along with a couple of friends. We were racing down the hill when we saw a forest trail. I stopped and asked our teacher, “Is it OK if we take this trail?” “Sure,” she replied. “Just meet us at the bottom of the slope (斜坡).” “OK,” I said. So, Bennet, a couple of our other friends and I started going down the trail. There were quite a few forks (岔口) in the trail. Bennet fell down at one of them. The trail and fork he chose were too thin for anyone to stop and help him, though, So, everyone but me chose to go around him and expected him to catch up. He got up and skied down agạin. Soon he caught up with me. “Let’s stop here for a while,” I shouted. “OK,” replied Bennet. We then both stopped and looked around. To our surprise, we found we were alone there. The others had already skied down a trail and we didn’t know which one they had taken. Since it was snowing, we couldn’t see the tracks, and my phone didn’t have a sign al this high up. I couldn’t send someone an online message, either. We stayed calm. Finally, after a bit of exploring, we found an exit. But it turned out we were on the wrong side of the mountain. We went down to Golden Nugget, our favorite slope, since it had many ups and downs that allowed us to find a map. Once we found one, I asked Bennet, “Bennet, are you hungry?” He replied, “Ani, we’ve been in freezing snow at the top of the mountain without our teacher for about 15 to 20 minutes, so yes I’m hungry!” Luckily, I had a couple of brownies in my jacket, so we took a snack break. Paragraph 1: After eating some food, we felt better. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: When we finally got to that slope, we saw the others waiting for us at the bottom. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】After eating some food, we felt better. So we skied over the side to get to the slope. When we finally got to that slope, we saw the others waiting for us at the bottom. Bennet and I became very excited. We happily skied down. The others were excited to see us, too. They asked us what had happened to us and we told them. Then we were asked if we were scared. We both shook our heads. Or, a student studying the culinary (烹饪的) arts might find visiting other countries and learning about their foods and styles to be very useful. D Watching an ocean wave running against the coast is beyond magical. C The sight of cross sea waves. D. The height of cross sea waves. Tips to build self- discipline (自律) in students Set clear goals We have to keep in mind where we want to go and what we want to finish: If we don’t set clear goals, we’ll float around like feathers in the wind. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
