Green is an important color in nature. It is the color of grass and the leaves on trees. It is also the color of most growing plants.
Sometimes, the word “green” means young, fresh and growing. For example, a greenhorn is someone who has no experience. In the 15th century, a greenhorn was a young cow or an ox whose horns(角) had not yet developed. A century later, a greenhorn was a soldier who had no experience in war. By the 18th century, a greenhorn had the meaning it has today—a person who is new in a job.
Someone who is good at growing plants is said to have a green thumb(大拇指). The expression comes from the early 20th century. A person with a green thumb can make plants grow quickly and well.
Green is also the color used to describe the powerful feeling, jealousy(嫉妒). The green-eyed monster(怪物) is not a dangerous animal from outer space. It is an expression used about 400 years ago by the British writer William Shakespeare in his play “Othello”. It describes the unpleasant feeling when someone has something he wants. For example, a young man may suffer from the green-eyed monster if you get a pay rise and he does not.

Efforts were underway in Bangladesh to deliver food and drinking water to millions of people struggling after a heavy rain led to flooding, which hit a quarter of the country. There are around 3.5 million Bangladeshis at risk of river flooding every year according to a 2015 report by the World Bank.
On Wednesday, at least 17 of the country’s 64 districts (地区), mostly in the northern and north-eastern Sylhet, were suffering from the natural disaster. Government officials said at least 36 people had been killed and about 4.5 million people stuck so far. The floods also caused damage to agriculture (农业), electricity, and clean water supply.
Sylhet is among the worst affected, with several areas without electricity. “Many people are in great need of food and drinking water,” said Enam Ahmed, 45, living in the worst-hit Sunmaganj district. “There is water everywhere but no drinking water. Flood shelters are filled with people but they are not getting enough food,” he said.
The situation in Bangladesh has been worsened by rain water falling down from the surrounding hills of India’s Meghalaya state, which received more than 970 mm (38 inches) of rain on Sunday, according to a government report.
“The flood situation in the three Barak valley districts continues to be very serious. Army rescuers have evacuated thousands of trapped people to safe places. 14 rescue teams with more than 70 boats and over 400 men have been pressed into action in the heavily flooded districts,” said a local flood control official. About 5.5 million people have been displaced, about 3.7 million of whom are staying in government-run temporary (临时的) shelters on higher ground.
Locals in the flood-affected areas said they had never seen such serious floods before.

B. They can provide enough clean water.
C. They are too old to hold people.
D. There are few villagers staying inside.

I found myself dealing with worries right before the new school year started.
My neighbor Ollie and I were skateboarding in the park when we happened to see some kids from my school.
“I wish summer wasn’t ending,” said Rose. “But at least I’ll be in Ms. Ramirez’s class. My brother had her last year. She’s so nice. And I’m looking forward to that!”
“I got Mr. Nishimoto,” said Jack. “I’ve heard he brings his guitar and plays funny songs. And I’d love to have such teachers.”
“I’d love to have a singing teacher too!” I said. “I have Ms. Newman, and I know nothing about her.”
“Oh no!” said Alex. “I’m sure she’s the one people call the mean, green homework machine.”
“I don’t listen to rumors (谣言),” I said with a smile. But part of me thought, “What if what Alex said is true?” And that’s when the worry button got pushed in my brain. And as you know, once the worry button gets pushed, one worry can turn into lots and lots of worries surprisingly quickly.
That night, I had a wild dream. I was searching for my perfect first-day-of-school suit, but a hungry goat got to it first and ate it up. So I was stuck wearing the only thing left in my house—a swimsuit.
So how does someone wearing a swimsuit get to school? By swimming, of course. And since swimming through the busy streets of San Francisco isn’t easy, I arrived at school really late. By the time I made it to my classroom, it was almost lunchtime.
“You’re late!” shouted a terrible green monster (怪兽) .“Now you’ll have to do ten times as much homework! Every night, forever!”
I woke up with my heart racing.
That afternoon, Ollie’s grandma, Abuela, asked if I was looking forward to school starting.
“Um, not exactly,” I said. And I started describing my frightening dream. The more I described it, the sillier it sounded. By the end of my story, Ollie’, Abuela, and I were laughing so hard that we could hardly catch our breath.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右。
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡相应位置作答。
Abuela reminded there might be some information about the teachers on our school’s website.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Abuela also suggested that I make a list of my worries, and that helped me out as well.

In most places in the world, a green light means to move ahead. In everyday speech, a green light means agree to continue with a project.

B. The people frapped in the disaster.
C. The number of districts in the country.
D. The damage caused by the floods.
33. What do we know about the flood shelters?
A. There is a crying need for food.
B. They can provide enough clean water.
C. They are too old to hold people.
D. There are few villagers staying inside.
34. What does the underlined word “displaced” in paragraph 5 mean?
A. Called on. B. Checked out.
C. Moved away. D. Sent in.

第二节、读后续写(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Abuela reminded there might be some information about the teachers on our school’s website.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Abuela also suggested that I make a list of my worries, and that helped me out as well.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
Abuela reminded there might be some information about the teachers on our school’s website. She suggested I do a little research. On the website, we finally found a picture of Ms. Newman, who was actually a smiling human, not a terrible monster. Beside her photo was a description of her hobbies and her pet dog. It was a beautiful Golden Retriever that one couldn’t help falling in love with at the first sight. The minute I learned some facts about my new teacher, my worry button switched off. I was even looking forward to starting school soon.
Abuela also suggested I make a list of my worries, and that helped me out as well. Being able to see my worries on paper made it much easier to talk about them and to plan ahead. I realized I needed to prepare something for my school a few days early. I also made sure I knew exactly when the school bus would arrive, and I printed out a map of the school with directions to my new classroom. And I was confidently sure my school life was going to be just fine once I got used to it.
