B During 20 years of stacking (码放) shelves with goods at his family’s supermarket in Pollenca on the Spanish island of Mallorca, Jose Luis-Reig, known as Pep, never gave a thought to the academic world. It was only when visiting the classrooms and passages of mainland universities with his two teenage daughters that he suddenly felt himself at home among the books and atmosphere of learning. After school Pep had intended to do a degree in biology at Barcelona University but had been called on to help run the family business instead. But the question of “What’s my role in life?“ still kept coming back to him. It wasn’t until a year later that the answer suddenly struck him. When he was at school, other children would come to him with their problems. He developed a reputation and so was invited onto local radio, where the interviewer said, “You’re like a young psychologist.” Pep was no stranger to change. The family business had originally been a sawmill (锯木厂), but when Pep, then 27, was asked if he wanted to take over, he decided to transform the mill into the town’s first supermarket. One day in the shop, what the radio presenter said came back to him. After running the idea past his family, he applied to university in Palma to study psychology and, aged 46, was accepted. “I had to get used to being much older than all the other students,” he says.“ In fact, I was older than my professor. But I believe disadvantages can always be advantages. And I ended up helping the others because I’d had more life experience that carries psychological impact, which could reflect classroom theory. Pep came top of his year and impressed his tutors so much that he was offered a job researching and teaching, which he still does while studying for a master’s in neuropsychology. Now 52, and still in the job, he adds, “My only regret is not having done it earlier. 4. What can we know about Pep in the first paragraph? A. He felt relaxed in the academic atmosphere. B. He visited his daughters’ universities frequently. C. He supported his daughters by arranging shelves. D. He never quit the thought of going to mainland colleges. 5 What was Pep’s answer to the question of his role in life? A. To win a reputation. B. To study psychology. C. To take over his family business. D. To cure children of their problems. 6. What inspired Pep to apply to the university in Palma at 46? A. His pursuit of a better career. B. The radio presenter’s comment. C. His classmates’ encouragement. D. The proposal of the family members. 7. Which quality might have helped Pep a lot in the university? A. Integrity. B. Self-discipline. C. Sensitivity. D. Optimism. C Cities are difficult to navigate (导航) at the best of times, but for people with disabilities they can be like courses with hurdles and bring inconvenience to disabled people. A UK national travel survey found that adults with mobility difficulties took 39% fewer trips than those with no disability in 2017. Yet that could change as devices and cities grow smarter. Assistive tech is playing a big role in the transformation. The global value of the industry is expected to increase from $14 billion in 2015 to $30.8 billion in 2024, according to Zion Market Research. One of the things that could transform lives is a smart walking stick designed by engineers from Young Guru Academy (YGA) in Turkey. The WeWalk stick has a sensor that detects hurdles above chest level and uses vibrations (振动) to warn the user. It can be paired with a smartphone to help navigation, and is connected with a voice assistant and Google Maps. Ceylan, who has been blind since birth, says that connecting the stick to the Internet of Things and smart city solutions makes it user-friendly. “As a blind person, when I am at the Metro station I don’t know which is my exit ... I don’t know which bus is approaching ... which stores are around me. That kind of information can be provided with the WeWalk,” he says. “The smart walking stick is really an exciting initiative that will make a huge difference to some people,” says Anna Lawson, the director of the Center for Disability Studies at Leeds University in the United Kingdom. “But they are very expensive ... they’re not going to be available to the vast majority of disabled people,” she added. Bryan Matthews, a lecturer at the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds, shares the concerns about cost. He says there should also be a focus on inclusive design, and anything that helps people navigate their environment is positive. 8. What does “that” in the second paragraph refer to? A The survey that compared adults’ mobility. B. The smart industry that is booming. C. The fact that the disabled traveled less. D. The role that the assistive tech plays. 9. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. The working principles of the WeWalk stick. B. The introduction of the WeWalk stick inventors. C. The transformation caused by the WeWalk stick. D. The benefits brought about by the WeWalk stick. 10. What’s the purpose of quoting Ceylan? A. To show the value of smart tech. B. To urge more attention to the blind. C. To increase the potential market share. D. To encourage tech research and development. 11. What is the disadvantage of the WeWalk stick? A. Confusing instructions. B. Poor navigation. C. Inclusive designs. D. High prices. D People who give, live longer, studies have shown. Now, a new study by University of Michigan shows that why people volunteer—not whether they volunteer—is what really counts. For the study, Konrath and colleagues analyzed data collected in 2008 and 2012 aiming at the same random samples of 3,376 people. Overall, they found that just 2.3 percent of those who once worked as volunteers had died, compared to 4.3 percent of non-volunteers. They further found that how much people volunteered mattered as well—only 1.8 percent of regular volunteers died, compared with 2.5 percent of occasional volunteers. But what really made a difference were people’s motives for volunteering. The researchers asked people to rate how important they found various reasons for volunteering, and they found that the more important people rated reasons such as feeling pity for people in need, the more likely they were to be alive. Those who rated motives related to personal benefit as more important were more likely to have died, and just as likely to die as those who didn’t volunteer at all. These reasons included volunteering because they enjoyed the social contact, to escape their own problems, or to explore their own strengths. Konrath says the current findings suggest it may be a poor idea to encourage people to volunteer because it’s good for them. “Volunteering is increasingly being encouraged in schools and organizations. Some groups say that it’s okay to want benefits for yourself, and encourage people to think of volunteering as an exchange for personal interests. Some groups emphasize the health benefits received through volunteering.” Konrath added, “Of course, it’s reasonable for volunteers to expect benefits for themselves. But the potential health benefits of volunteering are significantly reduced if self-benefit becomes a person’s main motive.” 12. What does the new study mainly find? A. How we volunteer makes sense to others. B. How often we volunteer makes a difference. C. Whether we volunteer decides our well-being. D. Why we volunteer has an impact on our health. 13. How did the researchers do the study? A. By analyzing statistics. B. By rating volunteers’ performances. C. By doing lab experiments. D. By grouping participants randomly. 14. Which of the following motives will probably contribute to a longer life? A. To develop abilities. B. To make more friends. C. To help the poor people. D. To solve personal problems. 15. What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. Practical suggestions on further studies. B. A further explanation of the current findings. C. Potential applications of the research method. D. A reasonable doubt about the research results. 第二节(共5小题; 每小题2.5分, 满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Gardening may be one of the most relaxing hobbies you’ll find, with the excitement of seeing something you have planted actually turn into a flower. I had so many that I didn't know what to do with them. The next weekend my niece and nephew, Sue and Mike, aged 6 and 7, came and suddenly I had an idea. I might let them give out these flowers to people they met on the street, and in this way they could learn how to be friendly to others. So I told them about my plan and explained that these flowers would make people feel happy and smile. They loved the idea and were eager to have a try. So at once we took every single flower and tied a smile card to it. We then went to the street with the flowers. The first flower went to a policeman. As soon as she saw the policeman, my niece ran up to him and handed him a flower. His smile was so big, but hers was even bigger! In no time, we neared the end of our flowers. It was lunch time and we went to Subway for lunch. There the kids gave a flower to the waitress, who was really excited to receive the flower. As we were eating our lunch, the waitress came up to the kids with two big chocolate cookies! She said the chocolate cookies were for them and that she really liked the flower! As they ate the cookies, my niece and nephew looked at me with the biggest smiles I had ever seen. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 With just one flower left, I said it should be given to the person who needed it most. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ It turned out to be a great day for us. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1-5 ABBBB 6-10 ABBCB 11-15 CBBAB 16-20 BBCАC 高三复习阶段检测卷(二) 第一部分听力(共两节, 满分30分) 第一节(共5小题; 每小题1.5分, 满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题, 从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后, 你都有10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1. Just then, my nephew caught sight of an old woman in a wheelchair nearby. “I think she’s the very person for the flower. She lives a hard life because of bad health. She needs smiles most,” said my nephew. With these words, my nephew, followed by my niece, took the flower up to her. You can imagine how happy the old woman looked! She smiled, and gave each of the kids a big kiss. It turned out to be a great day for us. We spread a lot of smiles by giving out flowers, and received a lot of smiles in return. The flowers not only made us feel good about ourselves, but also made 40 other people feel happy. I feel there is nothing more enjoyable than being friendly to people. Meanwhile, the kids learned an important lesson in the process. In fact, they can’t wait until next time they have such a chance again. They want to give out more flowers! 1-5 ABBBB 6-10 ABBCB 11-15 CBBAB 16-20 BBCАC 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
