A Person Who Has Influenced My Life
There is always a time in one’s life when a hero comes along. Someone who has inspired you can really help you learn what life is about.
I remember it as if it was yesterday. I was fifteen years old that year. It was around eight o’clock one evening when my mother received a phone call from her brother-in-law, who told us my aunt was in hospital and that the doctor 16 them she would need an operation immediately. My family became very 17 about my aunt’s situation.
While my aunt was in the hospital with special 18 , my cousin Mark, who is mentally disabled, spent time with my family. Mark was seventeen at the time, and had been born with severe mental disorders, which 19 a wide range of social and physical problems for him throughout everyday life. He never had any true friend because no one could relate to him. I must 20 that at the beginning I was filled with uncertainty as to how much of a 21 my cousin would bring on my family. Now looking back it saddens me to see the 22 I once showed.
Over the two weeks when Mark lived with my family, I probably understood more about life and its meanings. Thinking back, I took everything in daily life for granted, believing it would always be there. I never even thought about being able to do things like walking, brushing my teeth, or going to the bathroom on my own. Now I see how 23 I am to be able to do these things independently.
Mark was seventeen, but learned on a nine-year-old 24 . Although his learning ability was slower than most, he could still learn. He explored 25 to do most of the things everyone else did. 26 he did pretty well and succeeded in almost everything he tried to do. He 27 his illness and showed an ambition to love life. To him, having a successful life means achieving goals on his own terms and at his own 28 .
Mark is my hero, for his disability has forever 29 my viewpoint on life. It seems like a well-deserved life when you’re fifteen, and it is amazing how in a period of time your point of view can change so 30 .

My cousin is nine years old, a little bit fat and doesn’t do well at school. 16 the youngest in the family, she is heavily teased (逗弄), and thus has 17 some resistance and distrust towards adults, who usually don’t expect much of her.
Yesterday we went to an art exhibition together. There were 18 from kids with disabilities. My little girl has keen (敏锐的) eyes, for the paintings she 19 most were also the best in the show. She voluntarily helped to arrange the chairs and table for a sharing stage and cheerfully 20 me to get my bag from another room. She also 21 paintings painted by herself to her new friends there. These things don’t happen 22 at home as she’s usually glued to her iPad.
After that, we went to a second-hand store together. I bought a 23 written by a mom telling her journey with her disabled son. On the bus back home, I 24 introduced the book to my cousin, and I was very 25 that she was truly interested. It was early winter several years ago. I had pulled out my old winter 16 for another year’s use. It was still in pretty good 17 after so many winters’ wear. I didn’t really need a new one but I wanted one and 18 mentioned it to my daughter one day. She is such a sweet, loving soul that I should have 19 what would happen next. A few weeks later she gave me a 20 of a bright red, brand new, winter’s coat.
I put the old one in my closet(壁橱)and started to 21 the new coat every day. Each day, though, when I opened my closet, something upset me. It seemed a 22 that my still good, old coat should just sit there keeping no one 23 during the cold, winter days. After a few weeks I took it out and drove to a local charity. I knew that there someone who couldn’t 24 a coat might get my old one. I 25 and walked out the door. Then I saw a shaking man in only a 26 jacket walking in. I wondered if he would 27 my old coat. Then I smiled and went home with a warm heart.
My new coat is old now. It is in too bad of shape to even give away to 28 .I wonder if I should buy a new one soon but I think I will 29 a while. I don’t really need a new one and maybe I can find a few more things to give to the charity 30 .
Ralph Waldo Emerson once said: “ 31 is a growing giant whom the coat of Have was never large enough to cover.” Perhaps the best way to deal with our wants is by 32 and giving of ourselves. Love, after all, brings us the most 33 . And the more of it you 34 , the more of it you have. May all of your days be full of warmth! May all of your days be full of 35 ! For many, finding an unattended wallet filled with £400 in cash would be a source(来源)of temptation(诱惑). But the 16 would no doubt be greater if you were living on the streets with little food and money. All of this makes the actions of the homeless Tom Smith 17 more remarkable.

After hours in the cold and wet, he 20 inside and pulled the wallet out hoping to find some ID so he could contact(联系)the driver, only to 21 it contained £400 in notes, with another £50 in spare change beside it.
He then took the wallet to a nearby police station after 22 a note behind to let the owner know it was safe. When the car’s owner John Anderson and his colleague Carol Lawrence returned to the car—which was itself worth £35, 000—in Glasgow city centre, they were 23 to find two policemen standing next to it. The policemen told them what Mr. Smith did and that the wallet was 24 .
The pair were later able to thank Mr. Smith for his 25 .
Mr. Anderson said:"I couldn’t believe that the guy never took a penny. To think he is sleeping on the streets tonight 26 he could have stolen the money and paid for a place to stay in. This guy has nothing and
27 he didn’t take the wallet for himself;he thought about others 28 . It’s unbelievable. It just proves there are 29 guys out there."
Mr. Smith’s act 30 much of the public’s attention. He also won praise from social media users after Mr. Anderson 31 about the act of kindness on Facebook.
Now Mr. Anderson has set up an online campaign to 32 money for Mr. Smith and other homeless people in the area, which by yesterday had received £8,000. "I think the faith that everyone has shown 33 him has touched him. People have been approaching him in the street; he’s had job 34 and all sorts," Mr. Anderson commented.

A. air飞机;B. water水;C. train火车;D. bus公共汽车。 by air=by plane,“乘飞机”。故选A。
A. on在……上; B. nearly在……附近;C. beside在……旁边;D. far from远离。根据“he looked for a window seat.”
A. wanted想;B. found发现;C. thought认为;D. hoped希望。
故选A。
A. arrived到达; B. sat on坐下;C. reached到达; D. left离开。
A. through通过; B. by凭借;C. with和; D. in用……
A. said写着(过去式); B. saying写着(现在分词);C. spoken说(过去分词);D. speaking说(现在分词)。
A. and并且;B. this这个;C. who定语从句关系词,指代人;D. which定语从句关系词,指代物。
A. another另一个,加单数名词;B. other其他的,加复数名词; C. the other两个中另一个,或其他的;D. the only唯一。 故选A。
A. to sit坐,不定式结构;B. to be sat没有被动语态;C. to sit on坐上,不定式结构;D. to be sat in没有被动语态。
A. stuck卡住;B. tried试图;C. manged设法;D. refused拒绝。 由本句末的“but they also read the notice and went on”得知,大家试图坐在那里。故选B。

A. quickly快地;B. fast快速地;C. slowly慢地;D. soon不久。 故选A。
