Once there was a forest where all the animals lived happily together.
One day a family went to spend the day in the forest, and the son left his socks there. After the family left, a bear came by, found the socks, and decided to try them on. They fit so well, and he liked them so much that he wouldn’t take them off.
All the animals talked about the bear’s new look. Soon, in that forest, there began appearing squirrels in shirts, rabbits in shoes, and even rats wearing hats! The forest doctor shook his head, telling animals, “This can’t be good. △ !” But no one listened to him. They said he was just out of fashion.
However, it wasn’t long before the first results of fashion-fever came. Several times the squirrel caught his shirt on trees, stopping him in mid- jump and sending him falling to the ground from a tree. The rat couldn’t go into his hole without taking off his hat first. Even the bear, because of his socks, slipped (滑倒) from the river rock and almost killed himself.
When the animals came to see the doctor, he gave them all the same advice, “Take off those clothes before one day they are going to kill you.”Those who listened to the doctor’s advice stopped having accidents. Imagine you are going to give a speech the next day. The night before, you spend a lot of time thinking about the possible mistakes you might make and whether you’re prepared enough. Well, you might be overthinking.
Overthinking means going over the same thought again and again, analyzing (分析) the simplest situations or events too much.
According to The Conversation, overthinking comes from one of our primitive instincts The primitive mind will always see things in the worst possible light. Our brains are always looking for threats (威胁), to make a plan to deal with those threats and keep us safe.
Some people believe that overthinking may be helpful because it helps us look at a problem from every possible angle (角度) and get ready for what might happen. However, research suggests that overthinking can make us stressed, anxious (焦虑的) and depressed (忧郁的).
What’s more, overthinking might create problems with how you get along with others. As you think the worst, make incorrect guesses, or worry about every little thing others do and say, you might misunderstand their intentions (意图).
So, instead of sitting and thinking about a problem again and again, you can distract (转移注意力) yourself for a bit. Your brain might find better ways to solve the problem while you’re doing something fun, like gardening (园艺), or even while you’re sleeping.
Also, when you find yourself overthinking, challenge these thoughts. Ask yourself if they make sense and think about other possibilities. It can be hard at first, but recognizing that you are overthinking can help you make a change.
29. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By discussing an event. B. By using others’ words.
C. By giving an example. D. By listing numbers.
30. How can overthinking help?
A. It helps people to stay hopeful. B. It can make threats go away.
C. It can protect people’s feelings. D. It helps people see all possible sides.
31. Which of the following is a good way to stop overthinking?
A. Lying in bed with your eyes open. B. Watering or planting flowers.
C. Turing to another serious problem. D. Going through the whole thing again.
32. What is the passage mainly about?
A. What overthinking can do. B. How to see and control overthinking.
C. What can make people feel blue. D. The importance of having fun.
C
In 1921, long before the Walt Disney Company turned Pooh (维尼熊) into an international star of TV and films, Christopher Robin Milne was given a toy bear on his first birthday from his father, A. A. Milne, who bought the stuffed animal from a store. The stuffed animal was named Edward Bear. Years later, Edward was named Winnie. From the time Christopher Robin Milne was a baby until he was about 8 years old, he would receive different stuffed animals.
A. A. Milne was a famous English writer. As he watched his son interact (互动) with Winnie and friends, A. A. Milne thought his child’s interaction with the collection of animals would make a great bedtime story. So Milne worked with artist Ernest H. Shepard and wrote the first Winnie the Pooh poem, where Edward Bear was known as “Teddy Bear”. The writings appeared in Punch magazine and in the book they wrote together, When We Were Young, which was published in 1924. In a four- year period, three more books that focused on the bear and his team followed: 1926’s Winnie-the-Pooh, 1927’s Now We Are Six, and 1928’s The House at Pooh Corner.
The books and poems about Pooh brought great success to the writer, and the characters became favorites with young children and their families around the world. Their popularity led Disney to get the rights (版权) to make films about the characters in 1961. Five years later, Pooh, Tiger, Piglet and the rest of the team appeared on screen for the first time in Winnie-the-Pooh and the Honey Tree. The characters later appeared in TV shows, movies, video games and short films. Pooh’s most recent appearance came last year in the popular children’s program, Doc McSiuffins, where he was a special guest.
33. What did A. A. Milne do according to Paragraph 2?
A. He wrote many books about Pooh.
B. He read many bedtime stories to his son.
C. He wrote Punch magazine with Ernest H. Shepard.
D. He encouraged his son to play with friends.
34. In what order did the following events take place?
a. When We Were Very Young was published.
b. Pooh appeared in the popular children’s program.
c. Milne bought a stuffed animal.
d. Disney got the rights to make films about the characters.
e. Milne worked with artist Ernest H. Shepard.
A. c-a-d-e-b B. e-c-b-a-d C. c-e-a-d-b D. e-b-a-c-d
35. Why did Pooh appear in Doc McSiuffins?
A. To meet a guest in this program.
B. To be a special part of this program.
C. To show it is also a popular program.
D. To make its new film known to people.

Have you ever tried to hide your emotions from someone during a conversation? ___36___
Scientists from the Ohio State University have found that people are able to tell other people’s emotions according to the changes in the color of their faces.
Scientists studied pictures of people’s facial expressions. ___37___ For example, happiness makes our faces red around the checks and a little blue around the chin. Disgust(厌恶) creates not only a blue-yellow color around the lips, but also a red-green color around the nose and forehead. “We believe these color patterns are the result of small changes in blood flow triggered(触发) by the central nervous(神经) system.” Lead researcher Alex Nartime said.
___38___ Does the color alone or also facial expressions help people tell others’ emotions? To figure this out, scientists added color patterns to pictures of faces that showed no facial expressions. ___39___ They were able to tell the emotions 75 percent of the time without any difficulty.
___40___ For example, when two people are heatedly arguing over something, we say they are red in the face. When a person is very angry, we say he or she is blue in the face.
A. But this raises a question.
B. They found that every facial expression is connected to a certain color.
C. It’s not always easy because the color on your face may tell the truth.
D. Then, volunteers were asked to tell what emotions the faces were showing.

what 什么;where 在哪里;how 如何;that 那个。
much 很多;more 更多;little 几乎没有;less 更少。根据“However, he still got better marks than...”
空处在句中作宾语,结合“he still got better marks than...”
根据“It was at the age of 20”可知,时态是一般过去时,这里是there be句型,主语是something,be动词所以用was。故选A。
so 如此;such 这样的;too 太;very 非常。根据“...worried that ”可知,这里是so+形容词+that从句“如此……
make sb do sth“使某人做某事”,根据“Hawking had motor neuron disease (运动神经元疾病), an incurable illness”可知,他患有运动神经元疾病,所以应是在没有机器的帮助下不能说话 、呼吸或移动,故选A。
had to die 不得不死;must die 必须死;should die 应该死;might die 可能死。根据“Doctors said they had no way to help him. He... before he was 23.”
but 但是;or 或者;and 和;so 所以。“Hawking married, found a job at Cambridge University”和“had three children”之间是顺承关系,所以用and连接,故选C。
of ……的;for 为了;on 在……上;as 作为。

All the animals talked about the bear’s new look. Soon, in that forest, there began appearing squirrels in shirts, rabbits in shoes, and even rats wearing hats!
