1.与所给短文及段落开头语的衔接程度;
2.内容的丰富性;
3.应用语法结构和词汇的丰富性和准确性;
Eva spent the first week of high school trying to keep her head above water. One of the major headaches for her was finding her way in the huge school building. It was a six-story building. On each floor, hallways stretched in four directions, leading to classrooms, laboratories, and teachers’ offices. Somewhere in the building, there was also a library, a cafeteria, and a gym.
Having a poor sense of direction, Eva found it impossible to get around in such a huge building. All the different hallways and rooms were too much to think about, let alone commit to memory. She decided that she would memorize where her classes were and then pretend that the rest of the place didn’t exist.
In her first PE class, Eva was shocked when Coach Pitt announced that everyone had to run one mile around the track outside. She searched the faces of her classmates for signs of panic. There was nothing she feared more than having to run a whole mile. To Eva, “a mile” was used to describe long distances. It was ten miles from her home to her grandfather’s, and that always seemed like a long way, even in a car!
When Coach Pitt blew his whistle (哨子), Eva figured she would be left in the dust. However, while some of her classmates edged ahead, others actually fell behind. ” It’s just the beginning, “she thought.” I’ll come in last for sure. “
Soon Eva began to breathe hard, with her heart pounding and legs shaking. Feeling desperate, Eva started using a mind trick on herself. She stopped thinking about the word” mile. “Instead, she focused on reaching the shadow cast on the track by an oak tree up ahead. Then she concentrated on jogging to the spot where the track curved (拐弯). After that, she tried to see if she could complete her first lap. One lap turned into two, then three, then four.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1:
When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised.

Paragraph 2:
Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised. In the vast expanse of her school, a girl with poor directional skills struggled to navigate and often got lost. One day, during gym class, she observed a unique way to find her way - following the shadows of trees. As the sun cast its rays, the girl noticed how the shadows created patterns on the ground, guiding her path. She took a leap of faith and followed the shadows, surprising herself with each turn and stretch. Her efforts were noticed by the teacher, who praised her innovative thinking.
Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building. She used the shadows to navigate the school hallways, find her classes, and even locate the school's various facilities. This newfound skill not only helped the girl navigate her school but also instilled in her a sense of confidence and adventure. She learned excitedly that with a little creativity and observation, any challenge could be overcome. And with each step she took, she left behind a legacy of inspiration for those who followed in her footsteps, knowing that even without a clear sense of direction, there's always a way to find one's way.

I met Gunter on a cold, wet and unforgettable evening in September. I had planned to fly to Vienna and take a bus to Prague for a conference. Due to a big storm, my flight had been delayed by an hour and a half. I touched down in Vienna just 30 minutes before the departure of the last bus to Prague. The moment I got off the plane, I ran like crazy through the airport building and jumped into the first taxi on the rank without a second thought.
That was when I met Gunter. I told him where I was going, but he said he hadn't heard of the bus station. I thought my pronunciation was the problem, so I explained again more slowly, but he still looked confused. When I was about to give up, Gunter fished out his little phone and rang up a friend. After a heated discussion that lasted for what seemed like a century, Gunter put his phone down and started the car.
Finally, with just two minutes to spare we rolled into the bus station. Thankfully, there was a long queue (队列) still waiting to board the bus. Gunter parked the taxi behind the bus, turned around, and looked at me with a big smile on his face. "We made it," he said.
Just then I realised that I had zero cash in my wallet. I flashed him an apologetic smile as I pulled out my Portuguese bankcard. He tried it several times, but the card machine just did not play along. A feeling of helplessness washed over me as I saw the bus queue thinning out.
At this moment, Gunter pointed towards the waiting hall of the bus station. There, at the entrance, was a cash machine. I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the machine, and popped my card in, only to read the message: "Out of order. Sorry."

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Para 1
I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news. He looked at me in disbelief, asking me what to do. Flashing him another apologetic smile, I begged him for a delayed payment. “If I miss this last bus to Prague, I’ll be late for the conference which is so important that I can’t afford to miss it!” I explained. “May I have your phone number? I will call you and return the money I owe you. I promise I will keep my word or you keep my watch!” I added, handing him my watch as well as my business card. Gunter accepted my business card but rejected my watch. He wrote down his phone number and gave it to me. “Just keep your promise, Sir.” A feeling of gratitude washed over me as I heard his words. Giving him a firm handshake, I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the bus, and jumped onto it just before its departure.
Para 2
Four days later, when I was back in Vienna, I called Gunter as promised. He picked me up at the bus station where he had dropped me off four days before. Beaming a warm smile at him, I gave him a big hug the moment I saw him. We chatted happily on the way to the airport. I told him that thanks to his generosity and timely help, everything had gone smoothly. When he stopped his taxi outside the airport, I paid him for the “double car ride”, back and forth from the airport to the bus station, together with a generous tip that he turned down. I also gave him an attractive souvenir I had bought at Prague, which he accepted with delight. We became good friends and kept in touch with each other regularly. I felt blessed to have such a warm-hearted friend like Gunter.

When I was in middle school, my social studies teacher asked me to enter a writing contest. I said no without thinking. I did not love writing. My family came from Brazil, so English was only my second language. Writing was so difficult and painful for me that my teacher had allowed me to present my paper on the sinking of the Titanic by acting out a play, where I played all the parts. No one laughed harder than he did.
So, why did he suddenly force me to do something at which I was sure to fail? His reply: “Because I love your stories. If you’re willing to apply yourself, I think you have a good shot at this.” Encouraged by his words, I agreed to give it a try.
I chose Paul Revere’s horse as my subject. Paul Revere was a silversmith (银匠) in Boston who rode a horse at night on April 18, 1775 to Lexington to warn people that British soldiers were coming. My story would come straight from the horse’s mouth. Not a brilliant idea, but funny; and unlikely to be anyone else’s choice.
What did the horse think, as he sped through the night? Did he get tired? Have doubts? Did he want to quit? I sympathized immediately. I got tired. I had doubts. I wanted to quit. But, like Revere’s horse, I kept going. I worked hard. I checked my spelling. I asked my older sister to correct my grammar. I checked out a half dozen books on Paul Revere from the library. I even read a few of them.
When I handed in the essay to my teacher, he read it, laughed out loud, and said, “Great. Now, write it again.” I wrote it again, and again and again. When I finally finished it, the thought of winning had given way to the enjoyment of writing. If I didn’t win, I wouldn’t care.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news. I was informed that I won the first prize in the writing contest and that there would be an award presentation in two days. I was so happy to hear the news that I immediately shared it with my teacher. “I knew you’d win! I am proud of you. You made it!” he said excitedly. Then came the big day. When I was invited to the stage to receive the award, I expressed my thanks to my teacher. I said, “It’s you who make me fall in love with writing, my social studies teacher. Without your recognition and guidance, I couldn’t have written this article. Again thank you very much!”
I went to my teacher’s office after the award presentation. My teacher was waiting for me. Holding my hands, he said “Congratulations! You are a good writer, so keep writing.” “You know I didn’t like writing before, but now I am crazy about it! I will try my best to create good works.” I said seriously. Since then, I have written many good works and now I am a famous writer. I owe my success to my social teacher who is a beacon in my life on the road to writing.

I am the kind of person who is shy and doesn’t express himself much among others. I spend a significant amount of time on introspection (内省). I lack the ease to engage in conversations with others. But I find this, on the other hand, can be an advantage.
Once, as a school boy, I wondered if I, such an introverted (内向的) person, would be considered eccentric (古怪的). And I was even afraid that I could possibly get nowhere in my study.
I went to school, where I was just an average student and struggled with shyness. My parents had high expectations, hoping I would finally be able to secure the first position at the end of the sixth grade. However, achieving that was no easy job. Given the keen competition between classmates and my then situation, it was challenging to stand out. I inquired with my friend, Tom, who consistently ranked first, and he revealed that his two aunts had been helping him, providing tutoring support.
Asking for help was never easy for me; my shyness stopped me from seeking assistance. I believed that I had to depend on myself — it was my sole responsibility to learn and educate myself. This mindset surprisingly ignited (激发) a race within me to claim the top position in my class. However, I realized there were barriers on my path — several subjects troubled me. And I understood that achieving the first position would take a couple of years of hard work.
I embarked on (开始) this journey when I was in the fourth grade. Attention focused in class and more time spent after class, I found I was gradually on the right track. By the fifth grade, work on my study was progressing steadily and improvement was obvious. Even Tom showed his surprise or I could say envy. But I knew my performance in writing still needed improving. And I knew, though without additional support, I could count on myself.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
The journey continued into the sixth grade.

The day arrived when the headmaster declared the exam results.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The journey continued into the sixth grade. I, as usual, worked independently. And I found a good thing. Isolated and single-minded, I could have all my attention focused on my study. Evidently, that mattered a lot. I had managed to achieve good scores in writing and I was well on my way. But that wasn’t enough to secure the first position yet. With the terminal exam approaching, the classroom was just like a competitive arena, all my classmates preparing hard for the academic battle. This, however, further stimulated the race within me. I, on my own initiative, formulated strategies to win, resolving not to let anyone take the first position from me. When finally the exam came, I, exceptionally calm and confident, gave it my all.
The day arrived when the headmaster declared the exam results. As I waited, the headmaster began with the top performers in Grade one. The tension grew as each name was called. Eventually, he announced the first position in the sixth grade. It was claimed by our class. I was nervous. He called MY name. It was ME! The first one in Grade six! I lived up to my parents’ expectations! The feeling was indescribable, and I was just in a state of shock and happiness. Teachers and classmates, including Tom, sent me their congratulations. Guess how I reacted then? I shied away and slid back to the classroom. Over time, I have accepted who I am, for being introverted, as it turns out, can be a facilitator rather than a killer of my accomplishments.

My new dog Honey, ran after me as I walked to my car. I’d adopted her only three weeks before, but we’d become nearly inseparable. I’d had an operation a few months back. I figured taking care of a dog would keep me active. Honey followed me like a shadow from the very first day. That morning I decided to take her with me while I went out.
We lived in a remote area up in the hills. I had to drive up the mountain to get to our driveway, which was barely wide enough for one car and ends at a drop- off. I turned around and backed up slowly. Just then, a flash of sunlight blinded me. I put my hand up to shade my eyes. I felt a jolt (颠簸) as the car dropped. Oh, no! The edge! The car slipped into the soft soil and rolled. We landed upside down. I felt a great pain in my chest and leg. I couldn’t move. I looked over to find Honey. Luckily, she was okay. I grabbed my cellphone and dialed 911. Just as I’d feared, I couldn’t get a signal.
I figured we were at least 50 feet down. Robin. my closest neighbor, lived a quarter mile uphill from me and had her own driveway. There was no reason she or anyone else would drive up to my house. And even if someone did, they wouldn’t see us.
Honey barked. At least I could get her out. There was a hole in the driver’s side window. Painfully, I reached over and picked her up. I gently put her head through the hole. “Go home, baby.” She jumped to the ground and ran away.
Now what? Maybe the horn (喇叭). I tried, but couldn’t get it to work. I sat there for hours. The last bit of light disappeared gradually. Now, as the sun set, the air turned cold. So tired. All I had to do was close my eyes ...

Suddenly, I was jolted awake by the noise of a car. I opened my eyes and there stood Robin, knocking on my car and shouting my name. Honey was standing beside her. On seeing I had been awakened, Robin seemed somewhat relieved. Later, the ambulance and rescue workers arrived. Through their intense efforts, I finally managed to escape from the difficult situation. After checking me briefly, they sent me to hospital where a small operation was performed on my chest and leg.
Back in my sickroom, I asked Robin, “Why did you drive up to my house?” “It is because of your dog.” Robin said, telling me how smart Honey was to lead her to where I was. Touched beyond words, tear swelled in my eyes. The next day, Robin brought Honey to the hospital. As soon as she saw me, she rushed to me in excitement and I gave her a hug. From that day on, we became even more inseparable.

One day in the 1990s, I was helping my brother move from a teaching job after college. He was driving his little pickup truck pulling a trailer (拖车) and I was driving my old little Ford station car, packed with his things.
It was a Sunday. I was driving along. All of a sudden, my car just died. No warning, nothing. I stopped at the side of a country highway and waited for my brother to realize I wasn’t behind him anymore and turn around. After about 20 minutes, he did return to find me. However, neither of us knew much about cars. After waiting for what seemed to be a century, a man, introducing himself as Jerry, came out of nowhere, took one look at the engine and said, “Timing belt.”
We had asked about getting the car pulled 30 miles to the closest large town on the phone, only to find that it was going to be an expensive repair, even if the engine was OK. Just at this moment, Jerry saw the difficult situation. He saw two poor kids in their early 20s struggling with life, and he said, “Well, it’s Sunday. Nothing’s going to be open. I tell you what I will do. My next-door neighbor is a repairman. Let’s push the car down to his repair shop and we’ll see what we can do.”
So we did exactly as Jerry told us. Jerry’s neighbor called his friend at the auto parts store, which was closed on Sunday. He did a favor and got the parts needed, driving them 30 miles out to the repair shop. And we sat around, telling our stories on the way while the car was being fixed.
The repairman’s son, a kid of about 9 or 10, was hanging around. After some chatting, we learned that he was extremely bored as no one played with him.

The boy badly desired someone to help build a treehouse in the woods. Pointing to the woods behind us, he said to us animatedly, “Would you like to see my treehouse?” My brother and I exchanged a knowing look, smiling, “Sure.” The little boy, hopping up and down with uncontainable excitement, led us into the woods. He proudly explained to us that he came here every day to build the house in an attempt to drive off his loneliness. We ended up spending two hours with this charming kid, helping him complete the treehouse.
When we went back to the repair shop, the car had been all fixed. Eager to show our appreciation, my brother and I offered the total of $60 in cash that we had on us to the kind man. However, he firmly refused, just saying, “No, you need help, and I’m glad to offer it. Besides, you have given my son company for so long and he is over the moon now. I really appreciate it.” It was then that we had a profound understanding of the saying: What you give away will invariably come back to you in another form.

On Monday morning I wore my favourite dress to school for the first time since I had started at Edison Middle School. I said good morning to our headmaster, Mr. Jordan, at the school entrance. With a genuine smile that reached his eyes, he greeted me by name, inquiring about my weekend and showing a sincere interest in my day ahead.
That was really comforting! It was the day of the poetry festival. and I was excited. At my old school, I had won the poetry award every year. I’m horrible at sports, and too shy to be popular—but І do write good poetry, although I never told anyone here about it yet.
The poem I wrote for the Edison Festival was about my dad. I wished I would surprise my classmates and Mrs. Baker, my English teacher.
When Mrs. Baker called on me, I was so nervous that I had to swallow about ten times before I could speak. But once I started, I didn’t even bother to look at my paper. I’d spent so much time perfecting the rhymes that I knew the poem by heart.
I had just started the third line when I noticed Mrs. Baker’s expression change. She looked at me with a mixture of appreciation and disbelief. I stopped in the middle of a word and waited for her to say something.
“Linda, you are supposed to be reading a poem you made up yourself, not reciting something you learned. That is called plagiarism(剽窃)!”
“Oh, but it’s an original one. I did make it up, it’s about my dad.” I heard a “Yeah, right!” from somewhere behind me, and someone else laughed. I opened my mouth to explain, but no words came out.
“Perhaps you could step out and gather your thoughts, and when you feel ready, we can discuss this with a clear mind,” said Mrs. Baker.
I’d been standing outside for 5 minutes when Mr. Jordan came over to ask me what happened.

Almost in tears, I poured out the whole story. With a lump in my throat, I explained how much I loved poetry and that I had never even considered plagiarizing. Mr. Jordan listened attentively, nodding occasionally as I spoke. When I finished, he smiled gently and reassured me that it was okay to feel sad, “Sharing your creativity is a brave thing to do, Linda,” he said warmly. “Even if it didn’t go as planned, your courage is admirable. Remember, talent like yours is a gift. Trust in your own abilities and let your work speak for itself.” His words comforted me, giving me a sense of affirmation I desperately needed in that moment of doubt and frustration.
Inspired by his words, I gathered my courage and turned back to the classroom. Mrs. Baker looked up as I entered, her expression now softened with understanding. Taking a deep breath, I assured everyone the poem was indeed my own creation and explained how I had crafted the poem about my father with love and care, “I’d like to recite it again,” I said with determination. This time, I recited the poem slowly and clearly, letting the emotions behind the words flow naturally. As I finished, there was a moment of silence before applause broke out, genuine and warm. “Sorry for the misunderstanding and thank you for sharing that,” Mrs. Baker said sincerely, “Your poem is really touching.” The tension lifted, and I felt a sense of pride knowing that I did surprise my classmates and Mrs. Baker.

Hearing that one neighbor had just welcomed a new litter, Allen, a 9- year- old boy, rushed to see the newborn cats. However, during his visit, Allen noticed one of the cats wasn’t moving due to disability on its hind (后面的) legs. So while the other little cats were exploring their surroundings, this one stayed behind.
Allen was significantly affected by the scene of this lonesome cat. He returned home and started to wonder whether he could do anything to help. When the boy told his mother about that, the mother recalled a video about pet wheelchairs.
They finally found the video on YouTube, in which an animal lover, Addy, shared a heartwarming and innovative project: building a wheelchair for a pet cat with mobility issues due to a hind- leg injury. As a caring pet owner, Addy took viewers through the DIY process of making a custom wheelchair to aid her cat’s movement and improve its quality of life. She began by measuring the cat and based on the measurements, cut the plastic pipes to make a frame (支架). Then she connected the pipes and attached the wheels to the back end of the frame. Finally, she added a harness (保护带) to ensure it was fit and comfortable for the cat.
Seeing the cat in the wheelchair moving around happily with the support, Allen thought that would be the best option for the little cat.
But the wheelchair in the video seemed too big and too heavy for a newborn cat. Where could he find the suitable materials?
His mother unearthed an old bag from the cupboard, whose belt was just fine for the the harness. As for the frame, they searched the storage room in their house and found an old umbrella, whose frame provided enough thin iron bars that were durable and light. But they were difficult for him to cut off. Allen thought his father could help. However, where could they find the small wheels? (320 words)

Allen suddenly spotted a familiar item in the corner of the storage room. That was his toy car. There were four small wheels on it! So pleased was Allen that he grasped it immediately. He carefully took off the wheels from the toy car which had accompanied him through his childhood. Now its wheels would aid him to give a helping hand to a poor cat. Allen got all the necessary materials for the wheelchair ready. Then he went to the neighbor’s to measure the cat and came back with the data. His father helped to cut the umbrella frame into several bars and assisted Allen in connecting the components. (97 words)
Together, they built a tiny wheelchair for the little cat. The caring boy was excited and proud when he looked at the wheelchair. It was a joint effort. Holding the little wheelchair, Allen rushed to the neighbor’s. Witnessing the little cat placed in the small wheelchair, Allen was looking forward to the moment that it would move around by itself. As he had expected, the little cat rose to its feet with the support for the hind legs. It did move, though slowly! Seeing this, Allen couldn’t help clapping and jumping with joy. His kindness and creation did make a difference to the little creature. (95words)

Leo and his friends lived in the same street. They’d meet on the sidewalk daily and walk towards the park, where they’d spend the afternoon playing basketball. During the winter, Leo noticed that of all the houses on the block, there was one with an untidy, dirty yard that looked unattended. One Sunday afternoon, the snow began to melt (融化), exposing all the buried leaves, autumn branches, and other rubbish. Leo couldn’t help but stare at his neighbor’s yard a little longer.
“You guys go ahead,” Leo told his friends while walking to the park. “This dirty yard needs to be taken care of,” he said. His friends laughed at him upon hearing this. “Are you serious? Are you going to give up playing basketball to clean a yard that isn’t even yours?” one of them asked. “I’ll catch up with you all later,” Leo insisted. None of Leo’s friends offered to stay, so when they left, Leo quickly got to work. He went back home and took the tools he needed.
It took Leo the entire afternoon to clean the yard. He got the melting snow out of the pathway and swept the ground. He also cut down the bushes and left them as neat as he could. When he finished, Leo hesitated to ring the doorbell. He hadn’t seen his neighbor in months, an old lady who had to sit in a wheelchair, with a caregiver visiting her every other day. However, he didn’t want to disturb her.
The following morning, the old woman, Abigail, opened her door with happiness. She had quietly watched Leo clean up the yard the day before and wanted to approach him, but she had no food or something else to offer him because her caregiver had not arrived. Abigail had not left her house in months; she only depended on her caregiver for her basic needs. After sitting in her wheelchair by the door for a couple of minutes, her neighbors started to notice her.

They walked up to her to say hello. “How nice to see you out, Abigail!” one of them smiled. “I’m glad to get some fresh air for a change. I couldn’t leave the house for months because of the snow. But yesterday, I saw a kind young man clean my yard,” she said. The neighbors looked at each other with guilty faces. They realized that they had been so blind to Abigail’s problems that no one thought to help her clean the yard. As for the “kind young man”, they knew immediately it was Leo and agreed they should thank him together.
The neighbors came to Leo’s house with gifts and Abigail. Leo was surprised to see them holding presents and asked, “What are these for?” “Dear, we’ve come to thank you for helping me clean the yard,” Abigail said, reaching out to touch Leo’s hand. Other neighbors chimed in, “You helped Abigail when none of us did that. Thank you for setting a good example for us.” The neighbors declared every Sunday afternoon “Neighbor Day”, a day when they would gather to do favors. Since that day, their street has been clean and all the yards tidy.

I inhaled deeply, expelling the breath against the rear window of the vehicle, and with a finger, I etched the word ‘DREADFUL’ into the misty surface of the glass, creating a temporary inscription that mirrored my inner turmoil.
My father, casting a brief glance in my direction through the reflective surface of the rearview mirror, offered a comforting remark, “Alex, this journey presents itself as an auspicious occasion for you to reconnect with your maternal and paternal elders.”
The vehicle made a deliberate turn onto a well-trodden dirt path, one that I recognized all too well. We were progressively distancing ourselves from the urban confines, moving further away from the digital tendrils of the Internet, and even more so from the stimulating environment of the computer camp.
“Brighten up, Alex!” exclaimed my mother, her voice carrying a note of optimism. “There is every likelihood that another opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of coding will arise shortly, perhaps even within this very summer season.”
As the car continued its journey, I was acutely aware that all my companions in the realm of programming would be engaged in the act of coding at the computer camp this week, while I, on the other hand, was to be ensconced in the rural setting of a farm. I uttered not a single syllable, and in due course, the vehicle came to a halt in the driveway of my grandparents’ abode. A slender row of trees materialized into view, their presence a stark contrast to the urban landscape I was leaving behind.
I had once taken pleasure in visiting the farm during the spring intermissions before my immersion into coding camps... and before the realization of the extent to which my actions could lead to chaos and disorder.
The engine of the car had not yet ceased its hum when my grandmother, with an agility that belied her years, sprang towards us. From my vantage point in the backseat, I observed as my father and mother embraced my grandmother. I, in turn, reluctantly extracted myself from the vehicle, feeling as though the very force of gravity had grown unusually intense.
“You both are certainly deserving of a respite,” my grandmother was saying, her words directed towards my parents. “Alex will be in good stead — he has always held a fondness for the farm.” She spoke in the past tense, implying that Alex had once cherished the farm.
During the midday meal, my grandmother inquired, “Why such a somber countenance, Alex?” I maintained my silence. Why indeed? It seemed as though they were acting in ignorance of the events that had transpired during my previous visit. For a fleeting moment, my gaze met with my grandmother’s. Could I muster the courage to question her regarding the goats’ destruction of all the flora belonging to our neighbor, Mr. Jackson, an incident that occurred because I had inadvertently lifted the latch and allowed the goats to roam free? Was Mr. Jackson still seething with anger towards me for the considerable damage I had inadvertently caused him?
“I am quite alright,” I muttered, my voice barely audible. “It is merely the absence of the coding camp this week that I am lamenting. Coding is an activity at which I excel.”
My mother offered a nod of understanding. “Ah, that does sound disheartening, but the farm will undoubtedly offer you a different kind of experience.”

After lunch, I was on my own when, out of nowhere, there’s Mr. Jackson. As I walked toward the barn, I thought about how he might still be upset with me for the goat incident, which happened because I accidentally unlatched the gate, letting the goats wander into his garden and devour everything in sight. Despite this, I couldn’t help but feel a bit relieved that he was the first person I saw. I hoped that he had forgiven me for the chaos that I had unintentionally caused.
Instead, Mr. Jackson yelled, “Great to see you here, Alex! I need your help with a lamb’s birth.” Surprised by his enthusiasm, I wondered if he had forgotten about the damage that I had caused or if he genuinely needed assistance. As I approached him, I noticed the urgency in his eyes, which suggested that he really did require my help. Since I had always been good with technology and coding, assisting with something as organic as helping a lamb be born felt like a completely new challenge, one that I was unexpectedly eager to take on, despite my initial reluctance to be at the farm. The experience of helping bring a new life into the world was both challenging and rewarding, and it helped ease some of the tension between Mr. Jackson and me.

In one summer afternoon, Richard walked to a nearby town for fun. An hour later, he noticed a little bike lying beside the road. And a small pink water bottle was lying nearby. He leaned closer and noticed fresh little muddy footprints disappearing into the woods. “What would a kid be doing here all alone?” Richard was puzzled.
Anxious, he followed the footprints and walked into the forest. Richard sensed something was wrong, so he called out repeatedly, “Hello, anyone there?” Finally, he heard a faint cry from the heart of the woods. It was a little girl’s cry for help. “Help... I’m stuck...” the girl replied. “I’m coming. Hold on!” Richard yelled back. As he approached nearer and nearer, he heard a trickling (小股流淌的) sound at a distance and then a loud roar. “Oh, my goodness!” he whispered.
Tree branches turned around on the muddy-brown river; the strong current rushed through the rocks. “Don’t give up! I’m coming!” he screamed after noticing a little girl and a dog holding onto a log floating on the river. The girl ended up being stuck there after trying to save her dog which ran away from home and fell into the river.
The current was washing away everything on its course. Although the girl was lucky the log was stuck onto something under the surface, that wouldn’t hold on for long as the current grew faster and stronger.
Richard was running out of time. He couldn’t think of anything immediately. He didn’t know how to pull the two out to the shore before they were washed toward the edge of the waterfall, which was just meters away. “HELP!” the girl screamed again. Just then, Richard’s mind acted fast, and he ran back to get something. “Hold on! I’ll be right back,” he replied.
Moments later, Richard returned with a very long, thick jungle vine (藤). He had one end of the vine tied around his waist and had the other end around a tree near the river.

He jumped into the river and swam toward them. The current was stronger than he had expected, and since the water was muddy, he could not see clearly. But he kept going, swimming through the fierce water. As he neared the struggling pair, he reached out with one arm, grabbing the dog’s collar while using his other hand to steady the log. The dog screamed in surprise but stopped struggling, sensing the help. With the dog secure, Richard turned his attention to the girl. She was pale and shivering. With a mighty effort, he wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her close to him.
“Hold me tight!” he said, carrying the girl in the water. The girl’s arms wrapped around his neck, her grip tight and desperate. Richard kicked harder, using all his strength to battle the raging river. Inch by inch, they made progress. Finally, they made it to the shore. Exhausted, they lay onto the bank, coughing up water and gasping for breath. The dog shook the water off, rubbing against Richard’s face to show gratitude. The girl looked at him, tears rolling down her face, and whispered, “Thank you.” Richard was glad that he showed up and saved them in time.

My niece Anna is a lovely girl with a gold heart. We live quite near to each other. She would join us on weekends or holidays and do some little things for people in need around us. Last summer, 12-year-old Anna was staying with us for a couple of days. She was remembering some acts of kindness that we did together when she was less than five years old. We talked about how much things have changed, and with the pandemic, how difficult it would be to do so many of those things, especially when it comes to strangers.
The next day, I needed something for painting from the downtown area and happened to take Anna with me. It was a hot afternoon. Trees along the street stood still under the burning sun. People with or without masks passing by seemed bored or spiritless. We were walking on the street when we heard a beautiful male voice singing a very soulful song. We turned around to find a middle-aged man sitting on a street corner with his guitar, a bowl placed in front him. Cars raced by and some pedestrians just cast a look at him and continued their walk. Then, an old couple paused and seated themselves on a bench at a distance listening to his music.
After finishing our shopping, we happened to sit at an outdoor dining restaurant across from him on the other side of the street. My niece was deeply touched by his singing. “Aunt, I love his singing so much, but how blue it sounds! It seems to be telling a sad story.” The girl said softly. There were even tears in her big eyes. Seeing how moved she was with his music, at the end of our meal, I bought a freshly made chicken leg. I put it in her hand with a ten-dollar bill and asked her to walk across the street and do what she wanted. “Really?” she hugged me, bright eyes sparkling with surprise and joy.

She headed over and as she approached, the man was just finishing a song. Anna stood there for a moment, then stepped forward and gently placed the chicken leg and the ten-dollar bill in the bowl. The man looked up, surprise and gratitude in his eyes. “Thank you, little one,” he said with a smile. Anna returned the smile and said, “Your singing is wonderful. It made my day.” Then she turned and ran back to me, her face beaming.
Last weekend my niece and I were enjoying a live concert downtown when my niece let out a cry in excitement. “Look, Aunt! It’s that man!” Following her gaze, I saw the same middle-aged man on the stage. His voice was as soulful as before. After the performance, Anna rushed to the stage. The man recognized her and gave her a big hug. “You were my inspiration, kid,” he said. Anna’s kindness that day had made a difference in his life.

I was watching some little kids play soccer. These kids were only five or six years old, playing a real game-a serious game. I didn’t know any of them, so I was able to enjoy the game without the distraction of being anxious about winning or losing. I wished the parents and coaches could have done the same.
The teams were pretty evenly matched. I will just call them Team One and Team Two. Nobody scored in the first period. The kids were hilarious, clumsy (笨拙的) and terribly inefficient. They fell over their own feet, stumbled over the ball, kicked at the ball and missed it, but they didn’t seem to care. They were having fun.
In the second quarter, the Team One coach pulled out what must have been his first team and put in the scrubs (灌木), except for his best player who now guarded the goal. Team Two swarmed around the little guy who was now the Team One goalie. He was an outstanding athlete, but he was no match for three or four who were also very good. Team Two began to score. The Team One goalie gave it everything he had, recklessly (鲁莽地) throwing his body in front of incoming balls, trying valiantly to stop them.
Team Two scored two goals in quick succession. It infuriated (激怒) the young boy. He became a raging maniac-shouting, running, diving. With all the stamina he could muster, he covered the boy who now had the ball, but that boy kicked it to another boy twenty feet away, and by the time he repositioned himself, it was too late-Team Two scored a third goal.
I soon learned who the goalie’s parents were. They were nice, neat-looking people. I could tell that his dad had just come from the office-he still had his suit and tie on. They yelled encouragement to their son. I became totally absorbed, watching the boy on the field and his parents on the sidelines.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
After the third goal, the little kid changed.

When the boy fell down on the ground, I saw the father start onto the field.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
After the third goal, the little kid changed. He could see it was no use. He stood there, hands on his hips, with an expression of utter defeat on his face. His shoulders slumped, and he looked over at his parents on the sidelines. His father gave him a thumbs-up and shouted, “Keep going, son! You’re doing great!” But the boy’s spirit was broken. He got the ball from the net and handed it to the coach, then he just stood there while huge tears rolled down his cheeks. He went to his knees and put his fists to his eyes, crying helplessly.
When the boy fell down on the ground, I saw the father start onto the field. His suit jacket flapping behind him, he rushed towards his son with a mix of concern and pride. Reaching the boy, he knelt down, offering a gentle hand to help him up. Instead of scolding or pressuring, he whispered words of encouragement, his voice filled with love and understanding. The boy nodded, wiping away a tear, and stood up straighter, his gaze once again fixed on the game. The father’s presence seemed to infuse the boy with a newfound strength, and he returned to the field with a renewed sense of purpose, his parents’ cheers echoing in his ears, driving him forward.

1.与所给短文及段落开头语的衔接程度;
2.内容的丰富性;
3.应用语法结构和词汇的丰富性和准确性;
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1:
When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised.

Sorry."
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
A few weeks later, when I almost forgot the contest, there came the news.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
The journey continued into the sixth grade.

(320 words)
