单元话题阅读理解练习
(23-24九年级上·广东广州·期末)What’s your New Year’s plan? As the New Year comes, some people love the tradition of making resolutions (决心). Others argue it’s a waste of time since most plans will fail after a few months. So, how can you keep the New Year flag standing? Try these five tips.
●Make a detailed plan
If your New Year’s plan is to exercise five days each week, a plan like “I’ll exercise on weekdays” would be too vague (模糊的). But a detailed plan like “I’ll exercise at school on weekdays during my lunch break” would be better. That is to say, be sure to detail when and where you’ll follow through.
●Make it fun
If it’s not fun to exercise or study, you won’t keep at it easily. But if you get pleasure from your exercise or study, you’ll keep it longer. One way to make keeping a plan more fun is to connect it with pleasure. If you only allow yourself to watch your favorite TV show after finishing your homework, you’ll start doing it right away.
●Set a punishment (惩罚)
Tell a few friends about your resolutions, so you’ll feel ashamed if they check back later and find out you haven’t followed through. A better punishment than shame, however, is putting cold hard cash on the table. You can make a bet with (与……打赌) your parents that you’ll keep to your New Year’s plan.
●Give yourself more chances
You planned to go to bed early every night, but you couldn’t help staying up late one Friday. After that, your early-to-bed plan went out of the window because you would think “I’ve already failed”. But giving yourself a get-out-of-jail-free card or two each month can help you get better results.
●Get a little help from your friends
If your New Year’s plan is to finish a book, you’d be wise to start hanging around with friends who’ve made it to the finish line and they can show you how to finish it better.

(22-23九年级上·广东广州·期末)There’s a saying that goes, “If you want to lose friends quickly, travel with them.”
Do you want to end up travelling with a broken friendship? If you don’t want to have a bad experience, here are some tips you can follow to reduce the arguments that appear.
Dealing with a bad team player. Shan Minjie, a student at Zhejiang University, is going to Shanghai with two of her friends next month. But one problem has already appeared long before they’ve even set out. One of the girls won’t lift a finger to plan their trips, leaving the task to Shan and the other friends. Shan says she will be more careful when she picks travel partners next time.
Learning to compromise (妥协). Feng Yaolin went to Xinjiang with three friends at the first year at University. One of the girls insisted on taking a shower every day. That means when they were camping and didn’t have hot water, the rest of the team had to put up with her complaints. But Feng knew better than to turn the problem into a fight.
“It was only a small thing, and we all tried to understand,” said Feng. “And it wasn’t all bad. For example, when she cleaned the tables in the restaurants, she would do the same for the rest of us. And we were grateful.”
Dealing with money. Han Chen went to Xiamen with a close friend. At first, they would offer to pay for each other’s meals, but it wasn’t long before they found their system didn’t work. Their solution was to go Dutch. “I didn’t feel comfortable at first because we have a habit of treating our friends instead of sharing the bills, but soon I realized it was the best way to solve the argument.”
“It’s true that you get to discover some of your friends’ problems during the trip, but in some ways, it is the problems that bring us even closer,” said Han Chen.

(23-24九年级上·广东广州·期中)We all love our parents: our parents love us too. Things, however, can still be wrong if both parents and children are not used to their ways of expressing love in the right way. With parent-children relationships, the importance of it is even more.
Different people have different ways of expressing love. The way someone expresses love is referred to as the language of love. In the book The Five Love Languages, the writer Gary Chapman states the five key love languages people use are: words of affirmation (肯定), quality time (spent together), receiving gifts, acts of service and physical touch.
Being brought up in a different generation, it’s not surprising to know our language of love is likely different from our parents’. For example, my parents express their love by acts of service. They like to do things for me. For me, I express love by giving words of affirmation. I also use other ways to express my love, but communicating in the form of words is the primary method I use. I’m always telling them how much I love them.
This difference created a big rift between us at the beginning. I would try to communicate with them, but get nothing in return. In turn, they kept trying to do things like buying food for me and cooking for me, but I would be impatient of their preference for food. It wasn’t until I recognized their underlying intentions (意图) that things changed.
What do you think represents love to your parents? Rather than “speak” to your parents in your language of love, speak to them in their language of love. This means if their language of love is quality time together, then spend more time with them. If their language of love is receiving gifts, then buy a small gift that means something to both of you. If their language of love is words of affirmation, give them a compliment (称赞). They will be able to recognize your intentions more easily that way, and accept them more readily.
Don’t force them to accept a language they cannot recognize. An example would be to insist on hugging them when they’re clearly uncomfortable with the idea. While you may have the best intentions, you just force them to accept your beliefs.
Learn to “speak” to them in their language, not in your language. You’ll get much better and faster results this way.
9.According to the passage, parent-children relationships may be better if ________.
A.parents and children love each other
B.parents try to offer good services for children
C.parents can communicate in different languages
D.parents and children use the right way of expressing love
10.What can we learn from the passage?
A.The writer and his parents like the same kind of food.
B.Children’s language of love is similar to their parents’.
C.The writer expressed love in speech more than in action.
D.Parents can easily accept the way their children show love.
11.The words “created a big rift” in Paragraph 3 probably mean ________.
A.built a close relationship
B.caused a serious disagreement
C.developed a long silence
D.cleared up a great misunderstanding
12.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To suggest a way of showing love to parents.

(23-24九年级上·广东广州·期中)Peter Lantos started seeing the ugly messages that someone posted about him on his social website when he was only fourteen. He didn’t know who they were from, only that the posts came from someone called Guess9. The posts continued into high school, and the messages got uglier. Whenever Peter went online, he would always find more terrible posts. He felt like it was his problem, so he didn’t say anything to his parents at first. Sometimes the bullying made him feel so bad that he didn’t want to go to school. Peter was the victim (受害者)of cyberbullying (网络欺凌).
In several ways, cyberbullying is even worse than face-to-face bullying (欺凌). A cyberbully can post anonymously (匿名地), using an online name, like Guess9, instead of his or her real name. A cyberbully can post someone’s personal information or post photos or videos that might be embarrassing to the victim. Hundreds, thousands,or even millions of people might see the messages on their notebooks, tablets, or smartphones.
What should you do if you are a victim? The most important thing anyone can do is to tell someone. Talk to an adult about it. Don’t deal with cyberbullying alone! There are ways to stop a cyberbully’s posts, and someone can help you do that. And one of the best ways to deal with it is to do nothing. Paying no attention to the bully, rather than replying to his or her posts, puts you in control. Instead of responding, take a break, or go for a walk. Remember that the cyberbully has done something wrong. You haven’t. And what if you have a friend who is bullying someone online? Take a stand! Tell your friend how hurtful it is. You might make a difference.
17.Who often posted ugly messages about Peter?
A.Some of his classmates. B.A person who named himself Guess9.
C.One of his best friends. D.Someone who didn't leave a name.
18.What happened to Peter after the cyberbullying?
A.He didn’t want to talk to others. B.He had some health problems.
C.He was unwilling to go to school. D.He wanted to take his own life.
19.What fact makes cyberbullying even worse than face-to-face bullying?
A.The cyberbully is able to hide his/her real name.
B.The victim can’t stop the posts of the cyberbully.
C.Cyberbullying makes sharing personal information impossible.
D.The victim is likely to lose a large amount of money.
20.What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage?
A.To describe an event that happened to Peter.
B.To warn people not to post ugly messages.
C.To prove that cyberbullying can be stopped.
D.To call on people to help stop cyberbullying.
(23-24九年级上·广东广州·期中)According to a new survey, students’ safety has become a big problem. Now in many big cities in China, some schools have taught an unusual lesson: self-protection. Students like this lesson because there are no boring classes. And they can learn how to save lives and know how to stop danger before it really happens.
Chen Haoyu, a teacher at Beijing No. 25 Middle School, gives young students advice on how to deal with danger.
If you are robbed
Keep calm. If you can not cry for help or run away, give the robber your money. Try to remember what the robber looks like and tell the police later.
If you are in a traffic accident
If a car hits you, you should remember the car number. If it is a bicycle, try to call your parents before you let the rider go. This is because you don’t know how seriously you are hurt.
If it is raining hard and there is lightning
Don’t stay in high places and stay away from trees.
When there is fire
Get away as fast as you can. Put wet things on your body and try to find an exit. Do not take the lift.

(22-23九年级上·广东广州·期末)A fun way to put yourself in a good mood(情绪) is by creating a mood board, sometimes called a vision board. What’s that? “It’s a collection of anything that encourages you, makes you happy, or speaks to you.” says Susie Moore, an author and life coach. Moore often guides people at mood-board-making classes. At the end of the classes, each person has built a collection that puts him or her in a positive frame of mind.
To create your own mood board, you’ll need a board and pushpins. A poster board or cardboard works too. You’ll also need old magazines, greeting cards, and photographs. Go through them, cutting out images for your board. Use your instincts(直觉) to choose what works best. “Anything that makes you feel good, use it,” Moore says. “When you see it, you’ll know.”
Here are some tips from Moore to help you to create your own mood board.
● One place to start is with some of your favorite things. I used photos of my favourite food—watermelon, and my favourite animal—penguins.
◆You might use your mood board to set goals for things you’d like to achieve. I want to read at least 30 books this year.
◯ Think about a place that makes you feel safe and happy. Maybe it’s your classroom, a playground, or a comfortable corner at home. You can put photos of that place on your mood board, or choose photos that remind you of it. I used this image of West Virginia, where I grew up.
This is also a good time to think about what might make you happy in the future. I included a photo of a beach, because I hope to go there soon.
Not everything on your mood board has to serve a purpose or be connected to your life. Choose some images just because you like them. Every time I look at this photo, it makes me smile.
24.Which of the following best describes “a mood board”?
A.It is a fun way to tell your good friends about your feelings.
B.It is a class that teaches you how to put yourself in a good mood.
C.It is a board which is used to express personal feelings in daily life.
D.It is a collection that encourages you, makes you feel pleased and talks to you.
25.According to the passage, how can you create your mood board?
A.Ask teachers for help.
B.Trust your own instincts.
C.Use your personal experience.
D.Copy Susie Moore’s example directly.
26.What can we learn from Moore’s tips?
A.Set goals that you find it hard to achieve.
B.Choose photos that include your favourite things.
C.Stay in a place that makes you feel safe and happy.
D.Most of the things on the board should be connected to your life.
27.What’s the purpose of this passage?
A.To guide us how to create a mood board.
B.To explain how to make people feel good.
C.To tell us why people createa mood board.
D.To introduce the advantages of creating a mood board.
(22-23九年级上·广东深圳·阶段练习)Everyone needs friends. There is an old saying, “Friends are God’s way of taking care of us.” But how do you find real friendship and keep it?
The American writer Sally Seamans tells young students some smart ways to find friends. Sally says finding friendship is just like planting a tree. You plant the seed (种子) and take care of it to make it grow.
First, you should choose a friend. What makes a good friend? It is not because a person has money or good looks. A good friend should be kind and patient. For example, if you have a bad day, a good friend should listen to your complaints and do his or her best to help. To make a friend, you cannot be too shy. You should make each other happy and share your lives.
But things cannot always be happy. Even the best friends have fights(吵架). What should you do when you have a fight with your friend? You have to talk to him or her. When there is no one around, have an honest talk. If he or she doesn’t want to talk, you could write a letter. There are three steps to being friends again:
Tell him or her how you are feeling; say what your friend has done wrong, and explain why you did this or that. Remember that friendship is the most important thing in your life.

(21-22九年级上·广东深圳·期中)There are two basic ways to see growth: one as a product, the other as a process. People have generally viewed personal growth as an external result or a product that can easily be identified and measured. The worker who gets a rise, the student whose grades improve, the foreigner who learns a new language—all these are examples of people who have measurable results to show for their efforts
By contrast, the process of personal growth is much more difficult to determine, since it is a journey and not the specific landmarks along the way. The process is not the road itself, but the attitudes and feelings people have, and their caution or courage as they meet with new experiences and unexpected difficulties. In this process, the journey never really ends; there are always new ways to experience the world, new ideas to try, and new challenges to accept.
In order to grow, people need to have a willingness to take risks, to face the unknown, and to accept the possibility that they may “fail” at first. How we see ourselves when we try a new way of being is necessary for our ability to grow. Do we see ourselves as quick and curious? If so, we tend to take more chances and be more open to unfamiliar experiences. Do we think we’re shy and indecisive? Then our sense of fear can cause us to hesitate and move slowly. If we believe we are slow to adapt(适应) changes or that we’re not smart enough to deal with a new challenge, then we are likely to take a more passive role or not try at all.
These feelings of insecurity(不安全) and self-doubt are both unavoidable and necessary if we are to change and grow. If we protect ourselves too much, then we stop growing. We become trapped inside a shell of our own making.
32.The following can be viewed as product of growth EXCEPT ________.
A.Father’s salary rose from ¥10000 to ¥15000
B.Philip was always ready for new challenges
C.Gloria won first prize in the speech competition
D.Ella picked up Spanish when she was living in Mexico
33.According to the author, the process of growth is probably ________.
A.the destination of a journey
B.relatively easy to identify and measure
C.not so important as the product of growth
D.people’s attitudes towards new experiences
34.For personal growth, the author may support the idea of ________.
A.having little interest in changes
B.being quite slow in self-adaptation
C.having an open mind to new things
D.staying away from failures and difficulties
35.When the author says “a new way of being” (para.3), he is referring to a new way of ________.
A.taking any risk B.finding ourselves
C.protecting ourselves D.experiencing the world
36.The best title for this passage is ________.
A.Growing Pains B.Facing New Challenges
