Middle School Laboratory Safety Rules
Science is about discovering and exploring the natural world. Explorations can occur in the classroom, laboratory or field. As part of your science lessons, you will take part in many activities using many different materials, equipment and chemicals, which can be dangerous if not used correctly. As a result, you may be faced with biological, chemical or physical hazards.
Safety is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing. The following safety rules have been developed for the protection and safety of everyone.
★Behave yourself in a responsible way at all times. Risky behaviours such as throwing things and doing experiments without teachers' instructions are not allowed.
★Eating, drinking, chewing gum, wearing makeup, touching contact lenses (隐形眼镜) or other unsafe activities are not allowed.
★Do not enter or work in the laboratory unless an instructor is present.
★Never enter areas where chemicals are kept.
★Taking any chemicals or equipment away from the classroom or laboratory is not allowed.
The safety rules must be followed at all times. Review these rules with your teacher and parents, and then sign and get the signature (签名) of a parent. The signature shows that you understand the lab can be dangerous, and that you have read the rules and agree to follow them at all times. Signatures are needed before you can go on with any lab or science classroom activity.

Sports can help us a lot. Taking exercise can make us strong. In collective (集体的) sports like basketball, volleyball, or football, we will learn the importance of cooperation. And sports can also help us relax after work or study.

Germs(细菌) are everywhere. You can’t see them, but they are on your desk, on your computer, and even in the air!
Like people, germs move around the world. They fly with us on planes. When food, clothes, and other things travel around the world, germs travel, too. Some germs are safe, but some are dangerous. Germs cause illnesses like colds and the flu.
Warmer Weather Brings Germs
The world’s weather is changing. Cooler countries are getting warmer, so insects from hot countries can move there. Some of these insects, like mosquitoes, carry dangerous germs. These germs cause headaches, fever, and can even kill people.
Under Your Skin
Your skin protects you from germs. It stops some germs, but not all. They can enter your body when you eat, or when you have a cut. Germs are on your hands, too. They enter your body when you touch your eyes, nose, or mouth.
Fighting Germs
Your immune system(免疫系统) protects you, too. When germs get inside your body, your immune system finds and kills them. Special cells(细胞) move around your body and fight germs. They help you stay healthy. Other cells make antibodies. Antibodies help your body find and stop germs.
What can you do to fight germs? You should wash your hands with soap and water. Soap kills many germs, and water washes them away.

When asked to point out one or two things that are most important to themselves, many put friends ahead of homes, jobs, clothes and cars.
A true friendship carries a long history of experience that determines(确定)who we are and keeps us connected. It is a treasure(财富) we should protect. Unfortunately, the better friends you are, the more probably you'll have disagreements. And the result can be what you don't want—an end to the relationship.
The good news is that most troubled friendships can be mended. First, don't let your pride get in your way. Most of us can forgive each other when differences are brought out in the open. Second, apologize when you're wrong—even if you've been wronged. Over the course of a friendship, even the best people make mistakes. Sometimes, it may be best if the wronged person takes the lead and apologizes. When you apologize, give your friend a chance to admit(承认) that he has been wrong. Third, see things from your friend's point of view(观点). And finally, accept that friendships change as our needs and lifestyles change. Making friends can sometimes seem easy. The hard part is keeping the connections strong during the natural ups and downs that have an effect on all relationships. My suggestion: Consider the friendship an honor and a gift, and worth the effort to treasure and nurture(培养).
32.What would be the best title for the text?
A.Easy Ways to Make Friends
B.Ups and Downs in Friendship
C.How to Mend a Troubled Friendship

A.who has been mistaken for another

A.we have much in common
B.we know our friends' mistakes
C.we treat our disagreements wisely
D.we have known one another for long
35.What should we do if we follow the author's second suggestion?
A.Stick to our own point of view. B.Avoid(避免) making mistakes.

Everyone feels anxious or nervous at times. Feelings like these can surface when you face a challenge. 36 You might feel anxious when it’s your turn to speak in class. These feelings can be uncomfortable, but you can manage with the help of the following tips.
●Start with a growth mindset (思想倾向).
Some people have a fixed mindset. They might think, “This is how I am. I get anxious before speaking in class. So I don’t raise my hand.” With a fixed mindset, people don’t think things can change. But people with a growth mindset know they can get better at just about everything — with effort and practice. 37
●Notice what anxiety feels like for you.
Get to know the body feelings that are part of anxiety. When you’re anxious, do you feel “butterflies”? Shaky hands? A faster heartbeat? Know that these feelings are part of the body’s normal response to a challenge. 38 Next time they happen, try to notice the feelings without getting upset. Accept them and let them be there.
● 39
When you’re anxious, it’s common to tell yourself things like, “I can’t do this.” Or “What if I mess this up?” Instead, tell yourself something that could help you face the moment with a bit of courage, “It’s OK to feel anxious. I can do this anyway.” It’s
facing the anxiety that helps you manage it. This is called exposure.
Learning to cope with anxiety takes time and patience. Most of all, it takes practice and willingness to face it. It starts with one small step. 40
A.Give it all of your attention.
B.That includes dealing with anxiety.
C.Talk yourself through anxiety and face it.
D.They’re not harmful and they fade on their own.
E.It can help you “reset” and be ready to move forward.
F.For example, you might feel nervous before taking big exams.
G.The more you practice, the better you’ll get at managing anxiety.

Catherine was the coolest kid in her class. Wherever she went, she was popular, with many kids following her and doing everything she did.
However, her deskmate, Landy, was not in the cool kids’ group. Being the tallest kid in her class, she was ridiculed(嘲笑) by her classmates, who were always chanting(唱起……歌) “Landy, Landy, long as spaghetti(意大利面)”.
Catherine didn’t really like it when the kids chanted “Landy, Landy, long as spaghetti”. But she never told them to stop ridiculing Landy either, and nor did she ever talk to her. She liked being popular.
One weekend, Catherine went over to visit her grandfather. Her grandfather lives on a farm, where he keeps chickens. While helping to feed the chickens, Catherine saw a special one. It looked smaller than the other chickens!
“What’s the matter with it?” She asked her grandfather, with a confused look on her face. Her grandfather told her how chickens could behave. “They have a pecking(啄) order,” he explained, “If one chicken is different, the others will push it away and keep pecking it. Sometimes they peck it so much that it dies.”
“Oh, what a poor little guy!” Catherine picked the frightened chicken up in her arms, whose heart was beating fast in the little body. Suddenly, she thought of Landy, the girl being “pecked” by her classmates. “I’m going to take it home and take good care of it,” she said with a determined look.
Back in school, Catherine told the cool kids about the chicken. “It’s looking healthy,” she said proudly. “It’s bigger and its feathers are growing. Even the cat likes it. She carries it around, and...” Everyone was impressed by Catherine’s story of her lovely chicken, laughter spreading around the classroom.
