For years I wanted a flower garden. I would spend hours thinking of different things I could plant that would look nice together. But then we had Matthew, Marvin, Helen, and the twins, Alisa and Alan. I was too busy raising them to grow a garden.
Money was tight (拮据的), as well as time. Often when my children were little, one of them would want something that cost too much, and I’d have to say, “Do you see a money tree in the yard? Money doesn’t grow on trees, you know.”
Finally, all got through high school and college and were off on their own. I started thinking again about having a garden.
Then, one spring morning, on Mother’s Day, I was working in my kitchen. Suddenly, I looked out of the window and there was a new tree, planted right in my yard. I thought it must be a weeping willow (垂柳), because I saw things blowing around on all is branches. Then I put my glasses on — and couldn’t believe what I saw.
There was a money tree in my yard!
I went to have a look. It was true! There were dollar bills, one hundred of them, taped all over that tree. There was also a note among them, “Thank you for your time, Mom. We love you.”
Later, my children bought me tools, a sunflower stepping stone and gardening books.
That was three years ago. My garden’s now very pretty, just like I wanted. When I go out and take care of my flowers, I don’t seem to miss my children as much as I once did. It feels like they’ re right there with me.
I live in a city where winters are long and cold, and summers are too short. But every year now, when winter sets in, I look out of my window and think of the flowers, I’ll see next spring in my little garden. I think about what my children did for me, and I get tears in my eyes — every time.
I’m still not sure that money grows on trees. But I know love does!

The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the first lunar month, marking the end of the Spring Festival celebrations.
At this festival, people often watch lanterns, which are in any size and shape you can imagine, from animals, plants to flowers. Another activity, guessing lantern riddles gives young people a chance to have more fun. Chinese people regard the dragon as a symbol of auspiciousness (吉祥). So people also perform dragon lantern dances to look forward to a good omen (征兆) of this year’s good weather and peace. Lion dance is similar to the dragon lantern dance, delivering (传递) good wishes and good luck. Eating yuanxiao at the Lantern Festival is another tradition. Yuanxiao is made of sticky (黏的) rice with fillings such as sugar, walnuts and bean paste(豆沙). It can be boiled, fried or steamed (蒸).
The Lantern Festival also seemed romantic (浪漫的) in the old times. Because some young girls in ancient China were not allowed to go out very often except during certain festivals. This festival was a time for unmarried men and women to meet. Watching lanterns at night was just an opportunity for young women to find a man who attracted them. Therefore, for thousands of years, there have been a large number of stories and poems written about these during the Lantern Festival.
Today, Western festivals are more and more popular with young people. What should we do for traditional Chinese festivals?
56. How many celebrations are mentioned in this passage?

D. We can still have dumplings as the traditional food of the Lantern Festival.
59. Which poem could best describe the young people’s meeting on the ancient Lantern Festival night?
A. Good rain knows its time right, it will fall when comes spring.
B. When will the full moon appear? Wine up in hand. I ask the sky.
C. No matter how high the mountain is, one can always climb to the top.
D. I look for her in the crowd. When I turn my head, I find her there where lantern light is dimly shed (灯光微暗).
60. What may the next paragraph be about?

How cool would it be to have a flying robot? What’s the first thing you would do with it? Drones are remote-controlled flying robots, and they are getting more popular every day. But is this a good thing for society?
The popularity of drones has increased in recent years as technology has improved and got cheaper. A civil (民用的) drone with a high-quality camera and four helicopter propellers (螺旋桨) now sells online for just a few hundred US dollars. Drones are extremely useful for making videos because their cameras link directly to phones or computers. Nowadays, anyone can get professional-looking fly-by pictures from different angles (角度).
But could this cause problems? Because drones are so affordable, it means that anyone can send a robot flying around the neighborhood. People might be surprised to find a camera flying outside their window. This should be a terrible worry for people who care about their privacy.
Many governments also spend a lot of money on drones, but for very different reasons. Some military drones can fly higher than 15,000 meters at over 300 kilometers per hour. And no, they don’t just take pretty videos. One military drone can even hold 360 kilograms worth of bombs (炸弹), enough to completely break down an enemy camp. The man controlling the drone sits safely away from the action, so it’s impossible to know for sure who is getting killed. Common people might be in danger.
Drones are new-born inventions with a new technology. People are still discovering their possible uses, and maybe someday you’ll come up with a new cool way to use your own remote-controlled robot.
61. How does the writer introduce the topic in the first paragraph?
A. By telling a story. B. By asking questions. C. By showing facts. D. By giving an example.
62. How many propellers does the civil drone mentioned in Paragraph 2 have?
A. One. B. Two. C. Three. D. Four.
63. What are the drones you can buy online most likely to be?
A. They are usually sold online at a very high price.
B. They can be used to secretly take pictures of people.
C. They are difficult to control if used without good training.
D. They can be used for both photography and military purposes.
64. Why does the writer use the sentence “And no, they don’t just take pretty videos.”?
A. To compare military drones with civil drones.
B. To suggest what military drones will do in the future.
C. To give an example of what military drones cannot do.
D. To show the same fact between military drones and civil drones.
65 What can be the best title of the passage?
A. A Great Research on Military Drones
B. A Popular Technology: Video Drones
C. A New Invention: Remote-controlled Drones
D. A Useful Product: Remote-controlled Flying Robots

Do the British really get together every afternoon to sit and drink several cups of tea? Ask any of my British students and they will tell you, “YES!”
___66___ We drink over 150 million cups of tea a day in Britain, but there is no special time for the nation’s favorite drink. British people will drink tea all day whether morning, noon or night.
There are reasons for the confusion (困惑) about “teatime”, however.
___67___ This is more common in Scotland and the north of England but you can hear it all over the country. Usually it is the main meal of the day, eaten between 5 and 7. ___68___ In the south, the evening meal is often called dinner, while dinner in the north is the midday meal. Confused? Many heated debates (讨论) can happen between southerners and northerners about the right name, but in general:
North: Breakfast-Dinner-Teatime
South: Breakfast-Lunch-Dinner
What about tea breaks? Surely this must be a special time for tea? Wrong again, I’m afraid. ___69___ In this time you can drink whatever you like (which of course includes tea). This is usually with a small snack, like biscuits. The best time for a tea break is mid-morning around 11 o’clock or mid-afternoon around 3 o’clock .
But what about tea rooms? Can I drink tea there? Yes! ___70___ This is known as afternoon tea and is usually served for special occasions such as a birthday or engagement (订婚) party. In Devon and Cornwall, afternoon tea is served with scones (烤饼) and locally made clotted (凝结的) cream and strawberry jam-we call this a cream tea. While a rare (少见的) occasion for Brits, tea rooms are very popular with tourists and are worth a visit.
A. A tea room is the perfect place to go with friends and family to enjoy tea, cakes, sandwiches and pastries.
B. So, “teatime” refers to the meal and not the drink.
C. I’m sorry to disappoint, but it’s simply not true.
D. Tea breaks are simply an opportunity to have a rest from work for around 10 minutes.
E. “Tea” is widely used as a name for the evening meal.

65. What can be the best title of the passage?

【答案】66. C 67. E 68. B 69. D 70. A
