B 改编 It was very late and everyone had left the café except an old man who sat in the shadow the leaves of the tree made against the electric light. In the day time the street was dusty, but at night the dew settled the dust and the old man liked to sit late because he was deaf and now at night it was quiet and he felt the difference. The two waiters inside the café knew that the old man was a little drunk, and while he was a good client they knew that if he became too drunk he would leave without paying, so they kept watch on him. “Last week he tried to commit suicide,” one waiter said. “Why?” “He was in despair.” “What about?” “Nothing.” “How do you know it was nothing?” “He has plenty of money.” They sat together at a table that was close against the wall near the door of the café and looked at the terrace (露台) where the tables were all empty except where the old man sat in the shadow of the leaves of the tree that moved slightly in the wind. “The guard will pick him up,” one waiter said. “What does it matter if he gets what he’s after?” “He had better get off the street now. The guard will get him. They went by five minutes ago.” The old man sitting in the shadow tapped his saucer with his glass The younger waiter went over to him. “What do you want?” The old man looked at him. “Another brandy,” he said. “You’ll be drunk,” the waiter said. The old man looked at him. The waiter went away. “He’ll stay all night,” he said to his colleague. “I’m sleepy now. I never get into bed before three o’clock. He should have killed himself last week.” The younger waiter took the brandy bottle and marched out to the old man’s table “You should have killed yourself last week” he said to the deaf man. The old man motioned with his finger. “A little more,” he said. The waiter poured on into the glass. “Thank you,” the old man said. The waiter took the bottle back inside the café. He sat down at the table with his colleague again. 4. What happened to the old man? A. He was in poverty and despair. B. He was caught in alcohol problem. C. He had lost hope and attempted suicide. D. He was abandoned by his family. 5. Why did the younger waiter want to close the café early? A. He wanted to sleep. B. He had an appointment. C. He didn’t like the old man. D. The writing style in this story is characterized by ________. A. complex and ambiguous plots B. spare and economical language C. vivid and detailed dialogue D. frequent use of similes C 改编 It is almost impossible for people who have trouble walking or moving around to enjoy the beach. But lots of beaches in Greece now offer a new way called Seatrac for people who use wheelchairs to get into the water by themselves. Basically, Seatrac is a chair on a moving ramp (活动梯) that can smoothly carry a disabled person into the sea. Once in the sea, the person can either remain in the chair, enjoying the water, or go for a swim. The chair is operated by remote control. When the person is ready to get out of the water, the Seatrac system brings the chair back to the top of the ramp. It’s even possible to take a shower in the Seatrac chair after going for a swim. Seatrac was invented and developed in Greece. The idea for it came when one of the inventors, Ignatios Fotiou, was talking with a friend in a wheelchair who told him that he enjoyed the sea, but didn’t like having to be carried into the ocean as if he were a “sack of potatoes”. Mr. Fotiou realized that there must be a way to make it easier for wheelchair users to enjoy the water. He worked with his partner and a professor at a Greek university to design the system. In time, they formed a company called TOBEA to build and sell the systems. The company worked hard to make the system simple to put in place and easy to run. A wooden walkway allows wheelchair users to reach the Seatrac. Powered by solar energy, the system can continue to run even if the electricity goes out. Moreover, the Seatrac system can easily be packed up and stored when swimming season ends. This summer, the Seatrac system is being used at over 220 beaches in Greece, Cyprus, Italy, and Latvia. Thanks to Seatrac, people in wheelchairs now have the chance to cool down with a dip in the sea. 8. Which of the following can best describe Seatrac? A. Flexible and energy-efficient. B. Fashionable and smooth-running. C. Practical and user-friendly. D. Automatic and life-saving. 9. What caused Mr. Fotiou to design Seatrac? A. He wanted to help his friend enjoy the beach. B. He hoped to save his friend from others’ tease. C. He desired to earn money from it. D. He was eager to form a wheelchair company. 10. What is the main idea of Paragraph 4? A. The efforts of the TOBEA company. B. The achievements of the TOBEA company. C. The advantages of the Seatrac system. D. The working principle of the Seatrac system. 11. What is the main purpose of the passage? A. To inspire people to care for disabled people. B. To introduce a new invention for wheelchair users. C. To sell the Seatrac system to wheelchair users. D. To explain the principle of the Seatrac system. D 原创 Elephants are the largest land mammals on Earth, and understanding them better could lead to big scientific breakthroughs in science. Both delicate and sturdy, elephant trunks (象鼻) can grasp a single leaf but can also carry nearly 600 pounds. Scientists think that they are an incredible inspiration for the next generation of bio-inspired (仿生) robots. By conducting a high- resolution motion capture analysis of elephants’ trunks, researchers found elephants have a set of simple movements that they can integrate freely to handle objects of various shapes and sizes. For example, elephants use suction (吸力) to pick up lightweight objects. However, to pick up heavier things, they use suction to secure the position of the objects and trunk wrapping to hold and lift things. “It’s not the whole trunk that is lengthening or shortening — it’s different parts, relying on what the elephant is doing,” said Milinkovitch, professor of the physics of biology at the University of Geneva, Switzerland. Researchers also performed CT scans and MRIs on the trunk of a dead elephant. They used high- resolution cameras to create a 3D model of a trunk, allowing them to better understand the structure of an elephant’s muscle groups, skin and connective tissues. The study data will be used to help design an innovative“ soft” robotic arm.“ The data is exceptional, but now the effort is to translate this biological data into some engineering specifications,” Milinkovitch said. “We need to extract some simplifying principles that can make the robot’s behavior simple enough to be effective and adaptable to changes.” The project is also fueling advancements in material science, as researchers have developed a new material similar to the useful properties of elephant skin and can be 3D printed for robotic prototypes (原型). The new materials may be commercialized for a wide range of uses. 12. What does the underlined word “sturdy” in paragraph l probably mean? A. Strong. B. Broad. C. Sensitive. D. Rough 13. How does an elephant handle different objects? A. By securing the position of these objects at first. B. By combining suction with trunk movements flexibly. C. By sucking them with all the strength. D. By stretching its trunk based on things’ sizes. 14. Why do researchers translate the biological data? A. To test the safety of the robotic arm. B. To upgrade the appearance of the robot. C. To improve the behavior of the robot. D. To study the structure of muscle tissues. 15. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Elephant Trunks: The Theory of Movement in Robotics B. Elephant Trunks: The Inspiration for Soft Robotics C. “Soft” Robotic Arms: An Innovation in 3D- printed Robots D. “Soft” Robotic Arms: A Major Breakthrough in Material Science 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)改编 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Lifelong Learning is Good for You It is impossible for everyone to have access to additional formal education. Unfortunately, my daydreaming was interrupted by my mother’s announcement. She and my father had decided to take me to Uncle John’s farm in the countryside. Being born and raised in the city, I had absolutely no clue about farm life. In my mind, I pictured waking up at dawn with cows biting my sleeves (袖子). I begged my parents to let me stay home, but it was no use. They claimed that farm life would teach me far more important things than any book on my shelf, which I thought was nonsense. Therefore, on a sleepy morning, we packed our suitcases into the car trunk and drove off at daybreak. Even though I was low- spirited throughout the ride, the moment the car entered the farm’s gates, I wondered at the scenery. It looked like an oil painting, with a few cows feeding freely on a pasture (牧场) in the distance. Uncle John and Aunt Alice happily showed us around and introduced us to the animals. Aunt Alice pointed at a sheep that was moving slower than the others and said, “She’s about to give birth. Do you want to see the baby lambs?” I nodded. That night, after eating dinner around a campfire, we settled into our wooden beds and fell into a sleep. Suddenly, I felt somebody shaking my shoulders. I opened my eyes; it was Aunt Alice! She excitedly told me that the lambs were here. I quickly got up and raced toward the barn (谷仓). There they were! The mother sheep was lying on the straw, and three newborn lambs huddled (蜷缩) next to her, drinking milk. Uncle John was already there, but he looked worried. “What’s wrong?” I asked.“ Look at that little one; it’s not strong enough.” Uncle John pointed at the smallest lamb. It was true; the two other lambs were much bigger and took up all the space. The little one tried its best but still got pushed out. Uncle John said,“ It’s probably not going to survive.” 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: I knew instantly that I had to help that lamb. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Soon, it was the end of summer vacation, and we had to go back home. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 合川中学高2025级暑假居家自学检测 英语试题 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的A、B、C三个选项中选出最佳选项。听完每段对话后,你都有 10秒钟的时间来回答有关小题和阅读下一小题。每段对话仅读一遍。 1. They went by five minutes ago.” The old man sitting in the shadow tapped his saucer with his glass. The younger waiter went over to him. He should have killed himself last week.” The younger waiter took the brandy bottle and marched out to the old man’s table. “You should have killed yourself last week,” he said to the deaf man. 11 What is the main purpose of the passage? A. To inspire people to care for disabled people. B. To introduce a new invention for wheelchair users. C. “Soft” Robotic Arms: A Major Breakthrough in Material Science 【答案】12. A 13. B 14. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 I knew instantly that I had to help that lamb. I asked Uncle John if there was anything I could do. He suggested I feed the little lamb some milk directly to give it more strength. With his guidance, I carefully held the bottle to the lamb’s mouth. It eagerly drank, and after awhile, it seemed to gain some vitality. Seeing its feeble attempts to stand become stronger, I felt a sense of accomplishment and warmth spreading inside me. This experience taught me that every life is precious and deserves our care. Soon, it was the end of summer vacation, and we had to go back home. As I packed my belongings, I couldn’t help but think about the little lamb and how it had grown stronger during my stay. Uncle John informed me that the lamb was now healthy and lively, thanks to our efforts. Saying goodbye to the farm, I realized that this trip had been more than just an escape from books; it had been a lesson in life. I learned about responsibility, compassion, and the beauty of nature. As we drove away, I knew that a part of my heart would always remain on that farm, with the lambs and the memories of a summer that had changed me forever. 词汇激活 行为类 ①询问:ask/inquire ②建议:suggest/recommend ③想起:think about/think of 情绪类 ①宝贵:precious/valuable ②同情:compassion/sympathy 【点睛】[高分句型1] Seeing its feeble attempts to stand become stronger, I felt a sense of accomplishment and warmth spreading inside me.
