In China, the 24 solar terms were created thousands of years ago to guide agricultural production. Rain Water stands for the increase in rainfall and rise in temperature. With its arrival, lively spring—like scenery starts: the river water melt, wild geese fly from south to north, and trees and grass turn green again. Here are four things you may not know about Rain Water. Rain in spring is as precious as oil. According to an old Chinese saying, the rainfall in spring is as precious as oil. In northern China the spring drought is common and the rain of this season is only 10 to 15 percent of yearly average(平均) rainfall. Return of a cold period Extra care is needed to deal with a returning cold time in the late spring that often happens during Rain Water. The fast increase in air humidity(湿度) can result in lower temperature and wet weather. Visit to in-laws(姻亲) One of the main customs during Rain Water is sons-in-law visiting their in-laws and giving gifts. According to the tradition, gifts are usually two cane chairs with four meters of red belt which represents good health and long life. Another typical gift is a pot of cooked dish that contains pig’s knuckles(蹄) with soya and kelp. The son-in-law expresses his respect and thankfulness this way. Nutritious porridge The wet and damp weather during Rain Water is considered harmful to people’s health according to Chinese medical practice. So a bowl of nutritious porridge is the best choice to keep the body alive and healthy. 39.When Rain Water arrives, what happens? ① The temperature begins to rise.           ② The river freezes up. ③ Birds fly to the south in small groups.      ④Trees are green in color. So you ask your friends to join you. As you show them the photos you discovered online, you are sure you will get a travel partner or two. But interestingly enough, the first friend you ask, perhaps your closest friend, turns you down. And you move on to the next friend, but he too tells you he doesn’t want to join you at all. Maybe you decide to postpone your trip, hoping that one of your friends will change his mind. Maybe you decide to forget about your trip, fully convinced (确信) that the only way you would ever be able to have the confidence to travel is with a friend or travel partner by your side. If that is the case, then I’m quite happy that you are reading this article. Here’s my advice to you. You may be on your own when you board your flight, but once you arrive, you’ll never actually be alone. That’s how travel works, so don’t be afraid to travel on your own. You’re going to meet people when you travel. In fact, meeting new people is probably one of the easiest things to do when travelling because you quickly have connection with every other traveller. All travellers are strangers in a foreign land and as a result, we often would love to have the chance to travel with a new friend. Maybe you’ll meet someone at a cafe, in shop, on a bus, or just in the street. Maybe you’ll end up wandering around a city for an afternoon with this person and then saying goodbye. And the next day, you’ll probably meet someone else to share new experiences with as well. Perhaps you’ll meet someone and decide to travel together for a couple of days or weeks. The point is, you’ll meet plenty of people in just about every single corner of the world, even if you’re the shyest person on the planet. And before long, you’ll understand why I always give the same answer every time I’m asked what it’s like to always be traveling alone. I just say, “I maybe travel alone but I’m never really on my own.” 46.What can we learn from the passage? A.You prefer someone to go with you when you travel for the first time. B.Your closest friend is always willing to go for a trip with you. C.The photos online will surely make your friends interested in travelling. D.It is no fun if there is no close friend travelling with you. 47.What does the underlined word “postpone” probably mean in Paragraph 3? A.give up B.prepare for C.put off D.cut off 48.Which of the following is true? A.Meeting new people is the most difficult thing when travelling. B.People would love to have the chance to travel with a new friend. C.A shy person won’t be able to meet any new people when travelling. D.If you board your flight alone, you will travel alone all the way. 49.What does the writer mainly want to tell us? A.Don’t be afraid to travel on your own. B.It’s not easy to get a travel partner. C.Don’t go travelling without a partner. D.It’s necessary to make a travel plan. 江苏省苏州工业园区金鸡湖学校2023-2024学年九年级上学期期中考试英语试题 At last, the men were quiet, Silver walked with me to the wall of the stockade. This year’s Nobel Prize winner in Literature, Tanzanian writer Abdulrazak Gurnah, is helping people know more about their stories. Gurnah’s works are mainly about the impact of colonialism (殖民主义的影响) and the experiences of refugees, who leave their countries to stay safe or find a better life. “These are things that are with us every day. People are dying, people are being hurt around the world—we must deal with these problems in the most kind way,” said Gurnah. In fact, this problem is very close to his own heart. When he was just 18, Gurnah was forced to leave his home country as a refugee. He moved to England and soon started writing novels there. Aged 73, Gurnah has written 10 novels and a number of short stories. In 1994, Gurnah wrote Paradise (《天堂》), one of his best-known novels. It’s about a boy in Africa called Yusuf, who grew up during World War I. Yusuf was sold by his father to a traveling trader to pay a debt (债务). As he traveled, Yusuf saw war, disease and child slavery. The name of the book is ironic (讽刺的), because although the scenery of Africa is beautiful, what happens in the story there is the opposite. Before Gurnah retired, he was a professor at the University of Kent in England. The head of the university’s School of English said that Gurnah’s works “have touched millions worldwide and shine a light on human experiences that are so often ignored (忽略)”. 54.Gumah’s hope might be ________. But new research shows it is also changing the sound of oceans and seas. Scientists say these changes affect (影响)many sea animals—from very small fish to huge whales. Sound travels very far underwater. For fish, sound is a better way to sense their environment than light. They use sounds to communicate with each other. Sounds also help some ocean animals find food and avoid their hunters. Sounds help fish and other sea animals survive(生存). However, increased noise from humans is making it harder for these animals to hear each other. The noise comes from shipping traffic, underwater oil and gas exploration, and other noisy human activity. For many sea animals, their efforts to communicate are being masked (被掩盖)by sounds that humans have introduced. Experts explain the term masking, which happens when one or more noises in the water block sound important to an ocean animal’s life. The Red Sea is one of the world’s most important shipping passages. It is full of large ships traveling to Asia, Europe, and Africa. Some fish and other animals now avoid the noisiest areas. Also, the overall number of sea animals has gone down by about half since 1970. In some parts of the ocean, scientists now record fewer animals singing and calling than in the past. Experts say that effects of noise on sea animals are not well understood. However, some studies suggest that noise may cause hearing loss. The stress from human noise might also affect the immune(免疫)system-an animal’s natural defense system. Many sea animals are showing higher levels of stress because of noise. When people think of threats(威胁)facing the ocean, we often think of climate change, plastics, and overfishing. But noise pollution is another necessary thing we need to be monitoring. When it comes to something humans can do for the ocean, we need to think about how to make it quieter. Sound pollution may be easier to deal with than other ocean threats. You can reduce or turn off sound immediately. It’s not like plastics or climate change, which are much harder to undo. 58.According to the passage, sounds can help sea animals in many ways except ________. A.blocking the sunshine outside B.searching for something to eat C.getting away from their hunters D.communicating with each other 59.What can you know from the passage? A.Noise does more harm to sea animals than humans realize. B.Plastic pollution is the biggest threat facing oceans and seas. C.Fish sense their environment better through light than sound. D.The Red Sea is one of the most popular fishing areas in the world. 60.The underlined words “to undo” in Paragraph 6 probably mean “________”. A.to involve the effort B.to promise the result C.to cancel the effects D.to forget the influences 61.Which of the following would be the best title for the passage? A.Why Are Ocean Animals So Noisy? B.Helpful Ways to Save Ocean Animals. C.Humans Are Making Oceans Too Noisy. D.Which Threat to Oceans Is the Biggest? New discoveries at the Sanxingdui Ruins site in Guanghan, Sichuan Province drew the world’s attention. On March 20, Chinese archacologists (考古学家) announced that they had found more than 500 cultural relics (文物) in six new pits at the site, dating back about 3,000 years. So far, archaeologists have unearthed (发掘) different important cultural relics from four of the pits, including pieces of gold masks, gold foil (箔),bronze masks, bronze trees and large numbers of ivories. In 1986, a large number of cultural relics were discovered in No.1 and No.2 pits. The Sanxingdui Ruins, which were first discovered in 1929, are believed to be the remains of the ancient Shu Kingdom. The kingdom was a center of civilization (文明) along the upper reaches of Yangtze River. The discovery of Sanxingdui raised an important question about the origins (起源) of Chinese civilization. The ancient Shu civilization that built Sanxingdui is believed to be one of the earliest examples of Chinese civilization. The site, along with the Liangzhu and Shijiahe sites along the Yangtze River, shows that the birthplace of Chinese civilization might not have been only along the Yellow River Basin (黄河流域) in north China. The newly-discovered cultural relics are similar to those found in 1986, as they also include bronze trees and bronze masks. They further support the idea that the pits were used for sacrificial (献祭) purposes. New kinds of cultural relics have also been dug up. For example, experts found two square zun (尊), a kind of ancient bronze jar that was used for holding water or wine. They also found cong (琮) —a jade item commonly found at the 5,000-year-old Liangzhu Archaeological Ruins in Zhejiang Province. “These artifacts show that the Sanxingdui Ruins site had a close connection with Central  China, but it also marks an original ancient civilization in Sichuan with strong creativity,” said  Chen Xiandan, a member of the project who also took part in the 1986 excavation (发掘). 62.What do we know about the cultural relics found at the Sanxingdui Ruins site recently? A.Most of the cultural relics were made of gold. B.They were found in the same pit. C.They were created about 3,000 years ago. D.They were used for celebrations. 63.In 1986, what cultural relics were discovered in No.1 and No.2 pits? A.Bronze trees and bronze masks. B.Two square zun, a kind of ancient bronze jar. C.Gold foil and cong-a jade artifact. D.Gold masks and gold trees. 64.The new discovery of Sanxingdui shows that Chinese civilization________. A.started earlier than was believed before. B.might have several different origins. C.was centered along the Yangtze River. D.developed from the ancient Shu civilization. 65.What’s the passage mainly about? A.Ancient civilization in Sichuan. B.Ancient cultural relics at Sanxingdui. C.New discoveries at Sanxingdui. D.Introduction to Sanxingdui Ruins site. 江苏省苏州市景范中学校2023-2024学年九年级上学期期中英语试题 Recently, No. 23 High School did a survey about how Grade Twelve students spend their weekends. 560 students gave their answers. If you are studying at a university in the US, there is no need to decide your major (专业) in the first year, but it’s a good idea to spend time early on working out what subjects you are interested in. To do this, you can take some tests such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Test (MBTI职业性格测试) and the Enneagram Personality Test (九型人格测试). These tests can help tell you what things you might be good at. They can help you work out what subjects you’re interested in and tell you what jobs may suit you best. Further, you should choose a major you are interested in. After all, people are most likely to be successful if they are doing something they love. Your passion (热情) and interests are important, and they will bring you pleasure and happiness. Lastly, you should learn about the different majors available. Math, computer science, information technology, economics, journalism and business management—they are all very different majors. You should have an understanding of what kind of jobs people with different degrees can get after graduation. You can look at the websites of famous universities to find out more. Choosing subjects you are interested in is quite important. As time goes by, your interests might change while you are at university. Bikeless, 7 kilometers from where I was meeting friends and unwilling to get a taxi, I decided to borrow an electric scooter. The trip took far longer than it would have by bike, mainly because of a major spill halfway there. A rock, hit at speed, is a terrible thing: weeks later, I still had the red knees of a primary schooler. In the UK, they are legal (合法的) only on private land, but the Department for Transport is discussing how to control them on public roads and pathways, with the possibility for legalization later this year. Other cities that have e-scooter rental programs have had problems in the early period. In Paris, Mayor Anne Hidalgo described the situation last year as messy. She has announced that the city is reducing its number of e-scooters to 15,000 and plans to create laws forbidding them from pavements (人行道). France has put into force laws limiting e-scooter speeds to 25 kilometres per hour. Similar to dockless (无桩的) hire bicycles, e-scooters are parked on pavements and people leave them up trees or throw them into rivers. Wild treatment shortens their lifetime, which is bad for both profitability (盈利) and the environment. Analysis suggests that the average e-scooter’s lifetime is just three months. I think e-scooters are an basic part of the effort to make city transport greener. They are seen as a key to the “last mile” problem—a potential way to reduce transport jam by rapidly getting someone to their final goal. Cars can take up 28 times the space of a person riding a bicycle. As far as the environmental effect goes, recent research suggests that e-scooters are not as green as walking or cycling, but they are still better than cars. And though there are still many reports of serious accidents, scooting is about as safe as cycling. Stephen Gossling at Lund University in Sweden has suggested we build car-free “micromobility” streets, where cyclists, pedestrians (行人) and e-scooters could share the road. He thinks this will reduce accident risks and invite more vulnerable (易受伤害的) traffic participants, such as children, to become active transport users. If more e-scooters mean fewer cars on roads, an improvement in local air quality is also a likely result. When 20 kilometers of roads in central London closed for World Car-Free Day last September, the air quality was greatly improved according to the report. 43.What does the underlined part “a major spill” in Paragraph 1 probably mean? A.A serious fall. B.A sudden illness. C.A legal reaction. D.A terrible breakdown. 44.What do we know about e-scooters in Paris? A.They are illegal on pavements. B.They are already out of fashion. C.They are facing more limits. D.They are more common on private land. 45.What is the writer’s opinion of e-scooters? A.They are not as safe as cycling. B.They always cause the traffic jams. C.They are as green as cycling or walking. D.They play a big role in the “last mile” problem. 46.What is Stephen Gossling’s suggestion? A.To set up more care-free days. B.To invite more cyclists to use e-scooters. C.To get vulnerable pedestrians off the road. D.To separate cars from e-scooters on the road. 江苏省徐州市2023-2024学年九年级上学期期中考试英语试题 WHICH FAMOUS PERSON IN HISTORY WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE MET AND WHY? For me it would clearly be Leonardo da Vinci, I’d love to have met him. He was such a creative talent and not just an artist. He seems to have predicted (预测) a number of inventions that only came about hundreds of years later, like flying machines and so on. I’d like to tell him he really did see the future. Naomi, Chicago I’d choose Cleopatra—the last king of ancient Egypt (埃及). Why does the colour of the sky change at different times of the day? The answer has to do with how the sun’s light and the earth’s atmosphere(大气层)have an effect on each other. Light travels in waves(波状运动). Every colour we see is decided by the length of those waves. Red wavelengths are the longest, and as you go through the rainbow, the waves get shorter and shorter until you reach the blues and violets, which are the smallest. As the sun’s light travels towards us, at first all it meets is space without any particles(微粒), such as dust and water droplets. But on earth, there are thousands of particles in the air which are hardly seen. The wavelengths that make it to the earth’s atmosphere hit these particles, which sends light bouncing(反弹) in many different directions. But not all wavelengths bounce around to the same degree. Blue wavelengths, because of their smaller size, are scattered(散射) more easily and in many directions. Red wavelengths, which are larger, are scattered the least in the air. During the day, when the light has the shortest distance to travel through the atmosphere, what we end up seeing are the blue waves that have been scattered all across the sky. At the day’s end, though, the light has to travel through much more of the atmosphere, and those short, blue light waves have a hard time getting past all particles. They mostly get scattered away before they ever reach us. The result is that red sky we see at sunset, since longer red wavelengths are still able to pass through the atmosphere. So when you see a red sky at dusk, just remember that it’s actually the last remaining colour of the whole rainbow. 36.According to the article, the sky changes its colour because ______. A.the time changes every day B.the weather is different every day C.the particles in the atmosphere change the wavelengths of lights D.the sun’s light and the earth’s atmosphere influence each other 37.Which of the following colours has the longest wavelengths? C.Because particles sends light bouncing in different directions. D.Because the blue light waves have a hard time getting past all particles. 39.When you see a red sky at dusk, it means ______. A.in the morning B.at noon C.in the evening D.at night 40.In which subject may students learn the knowledge? A.Chinese. B.Maths. C.Physics. A.①② B.②③ C.①④ D.③④ 40.We can infer that Rain Water is a key period for________. A.building houses in the countryside B.providing land or crops with water C.keeping sheep, horses, hens and other animals D.spending all days on farming 41.During Rain Water, it is strongly advised the elderly and children________. A.not to take off thick clothes too early B.not to stay up late all night C.to exercise more D.to protect them from the heat 42.During Rain Water, what gifts do sons-in-law often give their in-laws? A.Some food, two cane chairs and desks. B.Chairs, pigs, soya and kelp. C.Delicious dish, four can chairs with two meters of red belt. 【答案】46.A 47.C 48.B 49.A 【导语】本文主要告诉我们不要害怕独自旅行,因为你在旅途中会遇到很多新的朋友,鼓励人们大胆尝试独自外出旅行。 46.细节理解题。根据“When you want to travel for the first time, you’re a bit afraid to travel on your own and naturally prefer to travel with other people.”可知,当你第一次旅行时,你更喜欢有人和你一起去。故选A。 47.词义猜测题。根据“hoping that one of your friends will change his mind.”可知,你推迟旅行希望你的一个朋友会改变主意。因此划线单词的意思是“put off”。故选C。 48.细节理解题。根据“All travellers are strangers in a foreign land and as a result, we often would love to have the chance to travel with a new friend.”可知,人们喜欢有机会和新朋友一起旅行。故选B。 49.主旨大意题。根据“The point is, you’ll meet plenty of people in just about every single corner of the world, even if you’re the shyest person on the planet. 【答案】58.A 59.A 60.C 61.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,介绍新的研究表明,人类活动正在改变地球上海洋的声音。科学家们说,海洋和其他水域声音的变化影响了许多海洋动物。 58.细节理解题。根据“They use sounds to communicate with each other. Sounds help fish and other sea animals survive.”可知,声音可以用来互相交流,也可以帮助一些海洋动物找到食物和躲避它们的猎人,还帮助鱼和其他海洋动物生存。 没有提到遮挡外面的阳光,故选A。 59.推理判断题。根据“When people think of threats facing the ocean, we often think of climate change, plastics, and overfishing. But noise pollution is another necessary thing we need to be monitoring.”可知,当人们想到海洋面临的威胁时,我们通常会想到气候变化、塑料制品和过度捕捞,但噪音污染是另一个我们需要监控的必要因素。所以噪音对海洋动物的危害比人类意识到的要大,故选A。 60.词句猜测题。分析“Sound pollution may be easier to deal with than other ocean threats. You can reduce or turn off sound immediately. It’s not like plastics or climate change, which are much harder to undo.”可知,声音污染可能比其他海洋威胁更容易处理,你可以立即减少或关闭声音,它不像塑料或气候变化,后者更难消除。此处“to undo”的意思是“更难消除、取消效果”,故选C。 61.最佳标题题。本文介绍新的研究表明,人类活动正在改变地球上海洋的声音。科学家们说,海洋和其他水域声音的变化影响了许多海洋动物。选项C“人类让海洋太喧闹了”符合主题,故选C。 New discoveries at the Sanxingdui Ruins site in Guanghan, Sichuan Province drew the world’s attention. 【答案】43.A 44.C 45.D 46.D 【导语】本文主要介绍了一些城市出现电动踏板车后出现的一些问题。但作者认为电动摩托车是城市交通绿化的重要组成部分。很多的电动滑板车意味着道路上汽车的减少,那么当地的空气质量可能也会改善。 43.词义猜测题。根据“The trip took far longer than it would have by bike”可知作者花费了比骑自行车更久的时间,再由“A rock, hit at speed, is a terrible thing: weeks later, I still had the red knees of a primary schooler.”可知电动车在路上撞到了石头上,作者摔了一跤,a major spill意为“摔了一跤”。故选A。 44.细节理解题。根据“In Paris, Mayor Anne Hidalgo described the situation last year as messy. A.Chinese. B.Maths. C.Physics. D.History. 【答案】36.D 37.A 38.B 39.C 40.C 【导语】本文主要解释了天空的颜色在一天中的不同时间会发生变化,答案与太阳的光和地球的大气相互影响有关。 36.细节理解题。根据“The answer has to do with how the sun’s light and the earth’s atmosphere(大气层)have an effect on each other.”可知,与太阳的光和地球的大气相互影响有关,故选D。 37.细节理解题。根据“Red wavelengths are the longest”可知,红色的波长是最长的,故选A。 38.细节理解题。根据“Blue wavelengths, because of their smaller size, are scattered(散射) more easily and in many directions.”可知,蓝色波长由于尺寸较小,更容易向多个方向散射,故选B。 39.词义猜测题。根据“The result is that red sky we see at sunset, since longer red wavelengths are still able to pass through the atmosphere.”可知,我们在日落时看到的是红色的天空,所以划线部分与in the evening同义,故选C。 40.推理判断题。本文主要解释了天空的颜色在一天中的不同时间会发生变化,答案与太阳的光和地球的大气相互影响有关,与物理有关,故选C。 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
