Thomas was sent to spend the summer holidays with his father, Christian, in a small island in the south of France. Christian is an ornithologist (鸟类学家) and works for a project to help a group of endangered geese fly from Norway to France in a light aircraft (飞行器). Thomas decided to join his father to help him with the task.
To guide the geese to France, Thomas had to use a skill called imprinting. This is about letting the geese live with humans from a young age, so they learn to recognize them as their leaders.
Thomas spent a lot of time with the geese, talking to them, and even sleeping in the same room as them. This helped the geese build close connection with him and see him as their leader.
Once the geese were comfortable with Thomas, they were ready to make their first flight with their leader—Thomas. He carefully put the geese into the plane. As they took off, the geese became uneasy and started to flap their wings, which could make the aircraft unstable. To solve this problem, Thomas used his knowledge of birds to create a peaceful environment for the geese.
As they flew across the ocean, the team met unexpected weather conditions, including strong winds and turbulence (湍流). Thomas remained calm, using his knowledge of birds to guess their reactions (反应) in advance and ensured the geese remain calm and safe.
Finally, they successfully arrived in France, where Thomas released the geese into the wild.

Every year, millions of birds are killed or hurt when they fly into buildings. Why does this happen? 26 Birds are flying into windows and tall buildings that are all covered by glass.
Many birds fly from one place to another. Most of the time, they live in the wild, such as forests and wetlands. 27 They might see small trees and flowers inside a window and want to rest on these plants. The birds do not know there is glass between them and the plants. 28
Some birds fly at night. They use the moon and stars to help guide them in the right direction. Tall buildings with lights on at night can confuse (迷惑) the birds. 29 The birds see the light, but they cannot tell that the light is coming from inside a building. They fly toward the light and crash into a building. On many mornings, there might be several dead birds lying on the ground.
30 Many office buildings now turn off their lights at night. This helps reduce the number of birds that fly into buildings and it also helps save energy.
A.The answer is glass.
