The sharp differences between these areas, once part of the British and French empires, made it difficult for her to fit in, which led her to examine her own identity—who she truly was. Seeking guidance, she turned to her grandfather who also felt disconnected from his own culture. He expressed sadness about what the Nso had lost both culturally and materially, including Ngonnso statue. Ngonnso was the founder of Nso dating back to the 14th Century, whose statue was an important cultural symbol for the Nso. However, it was taken by the Germans in 1902 and has been housed in Berlin’s Ethnological Museum ever since. Inspired by her grandfather’s desire and saddened by the loss of culture, Njobati made a promise to bring back the statue. She believed it would not only achieve her grandfather’s wish but connect her with her Nso heritage again. Njobati did many researches about the statue and former unsuccessful attempts. She realized that restitution (归还) was actually about facing the colonial ( 殖民主义的) past. Njobati decided to try differently. To gather support online and offline, Njobati began a grassroots campaign. She organized meetings in community halls and churches, met people one-on-one, and used the power of social media.Through Twitter, she established contact with the Ethnological Museum. Njobati’s tireless efforts paid off. She was told that a decision about Ngonnso statue was coming, which was an important moment for her. “Finally, this is happening. Not just for me, but for the Nso people, and for Cameroon,” She cried. “This also lends a hand to other communities that are seeking justice for stolen culture relics.” 4. What made Njobati decide to bring back the Ngonnso statue? A. Her interest in colonial history. B. Her grandfather’s identity problem. C. Her desire to reconnect with Nso culture. D. Her experience in attending university. 5. What did Njobati do to gain support for her campaign? A. She did wide and complete researches. B. She turned to her grandfather for guidance. C. She contacted the Ethnological Museum directly. D. She organized meetings and using social media. 6. What does “this” refer to in the last paragraph? A. The fight for the statue. B. The promise she made. C. The grassroots campaign. D. The return of the statue. 7. What can be a suitable title for the passage? A. A fight against colonialism. B. A cultural fighter. C. A promise for grandpa. D. A stolen cultural symbol. C 5. D 6. D 7. 根据第三段“Inspired by her grandfather’s desire and saddened by the loss of culture, Njobati made a promise to bring back the statue. She believed it would not only achieve her grandfather’s wish but connect her with her Nso heritage again.(Njobati受到祖父愿望的启发,并为文化的丧失感到悲伤,她承诺要把雕像带回来。她相信这不仅能实现祖父的愿望,还能让她再次与Nso的传统联系起来)”可知,她渴望重新融入Nso文化,让Njobati决定带回Ngonnso雕像。故选C项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“To gather support online and offline, Njobati began a grassroots campaign. She organized meetings in community halls and churches, met people one-on-one, and used the power of social media.Through Twitter, she established contact with the Ethnological Museum.(为了获得线上和线下的支持,Njobati开始了一场草根运动。她在社区会堂和教堂组织会议,一对一地与人们会面,并利用社交媒体的力量。通过推特,她与民族学博物馆建立了联系)”可知,Njobati通过组织会议并使用社交媒体来获得支持。故选D项。 【6题详解】 词句猜测题。this为代词,代指前文提到的事,根据前文“She was told that a decision about Ngonnso statue was coming, which was an important moment for her.(她被告知关于Ngonnso雕像的决定即将到来,这对她来说是一个重要的时刻)”可知,this代指雕像的回归。 根据第一段“Njobati, a young woman from Cameroon, faced a challenging journey when she moved from her English-speaking area to a French-speaking area of the country to attend university. The sharp differences between these areas, once part of the British and French empires, made it difficult for her to fit in, which led her to examine her own identity—who she truly was.(Njobati是一名来自喀麦隆的年轻女子,当她从讲英语的地区搬到该国讲法语的地区上大学时,她经历了一段充满挑战的旅程。这些地区曾经是英法帝国的一部分,它们之间的巨大差异使她很难融入其中,这促使她审视自己的身份——她到底是谁)”以及纵观全文可知,Njobati为了重新融入Nso文化,通过组织会议并使用社交媒体来获得支持来使之前因为殖民而被夺走的雕像回到自己的文化中,所以B项“A cultural fighter.(一个文化斗士)”是本文最好的标题。故选B项。 C A new study suggests that mindfulness education — lessons on techniques to calm the mind and body — can reduce the negative effects of stress and increase students’ ability to stay engaged, helping them stay on track academically and avoid behavior problems. After finding that students who self-reported mindful habits performed better on tests and had higher grades, researchers from the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University wanted to know if school-based mindfulness training could help more students reap similar benefits. They designed a study focusing on sixth-graders in a Boston school. The study showed that sixth-graders who participated in an eight-week mindfulness were less stressed out than their classmates who hadn’t. Practicing mindfulness had helped improve the ability to focus in the moment, expanding students’ capacity to learn and regulate their emotions. Four times a week, instructors from Calmer Choice, a Massachusetts nonprofit specializing in mindfulness education, taught the group techniques and led them through practices, like focusing on a rock for a minute, then discussing when their mind wandered and refocused on the rock. Another group of sixth-graders took computer coding during that time instead. The students were randomly assigned between the groups. At the end of the eight weeks, the mindfulness group reported being less stressed than they had been before the mindfulness education, and better able to practice self-control. And their amygdalae, the part of the brain that controls emotion, responded less to pictures of fearful faces than they did prior to the mindfulness work, suggesting their brains were less sensitive to negative stimuli, or, in other words, that they were less likely to get stressed out and lose focus. The group who attended coding classes didn’t see the same benefits. The findings suggest that the mindfulness instruction helped boost students’ attention skills, as well as develop coping mechanisms for stress. The researchers believe it could be especially useful for schools to support students suffering from severe mental damage and other adversities that trigger stress in the body, hurting students’ ability to succeed. 8. What was the purpose of the study? A. To examine the techniques for practicing mindfulness. B. To study the effects of group mindfulness training on students. C. To see how students help themselves to perform better on tests. D. To understand why mindfulness training calms the mind and body. 9. How was the study conducted? A. By listing benefits of mindfulness education. B. By scanning the brain to see how it controls emotions. C. By teaching different students different mindfulness skills. D. By comparing two groups of students attending different classes. 10. What change took place after the students practiced mindfulness work? A. They felt easier to stay focused. B. They were better at computer coding. C. Their mind was wandering more actively. D. Their brains were more aware of negativity. 11. Who are the most possible target readers of the passage? A. Stressful parents. B. Mindful instructors. C. Emotional students. D. School educators. B 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第二段中“researchers from the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University wanted to know if school-based mindfulness training could help more students reap similar benefits (哈佛大学教育政策研究中心的研究人员想知道,以学校为基础的正念训练是否能帮助更多的学生获得类似的好处)”可知,该研究探究的是以学校为基础的正念训练对学生是否有类似的好处,即群体正念训练对学生的效果。 根据第四段中“Four times a week, instructors from Calmer Choice, a Massachusetts nonprofit specializing in mindfulness education, taught the group techniques and led them through practices (来自马萨诸塞州专注于正念教育的非盈利机构Calmer Choice的教师每周四次教授小组技巧,并带领他们进行练习)”和“Another group of sixth-graders took computer coding during that time instead. (另一组六年级学生在这段时间学习计算机编程。)”可知,研究人员将参与者分成了两个小组,一个小组进行正念训练,另一个小组学习编程。因此,该研究是通过比较学习不同课程的两组学生来进行的。故选D项。 【10题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中“And their amygdalae, the part of the brain that controls emotion, responded less to pictures of fearful faces than they did prior to the mindfulness work, suggesting their brains were less sensitive to negative stimuli, or, in other words, that they were less likely to get stressed out and lose focus. (他们的大脑中控制情绪的部分——杏仁体,对恐惧面孔的反应比他们在进行正念训练之前要少,这表明他们的大脑对负面刺激不那么敏感,换句话说,他们不太可能感到压力和注意力不集中。)”可知,在学生们进行正念练习后,他们更容易集中注意力,保持专注。故选A项。 根据最后一段中“The researchers believe it could be especially useful for schools to support students suffering from severe mental damage and other adversities that trigger stress in the body, hurting students’ ability to succeed. (研究人员认为,这对学校来说尤其有用,可以帮助那些遭受严重精神损伤和其他逆境的学生,这些逆境会引发身体压力,损害学生成功的能力。)”可知,该研究可以很好地指导学校去帮助遭遇精神损伤和其他逆境的学生。由此推知,文章最有可能的目标读者群体是学校的教育者。故选D项。 D For those of us who grew up watching Star Trek, exploring space has been about discovering strange new worlds. And there are plenty of worlds to explore in time, but we still need major technological advancements to reach planets that are light years away. What we are doing in space today is providing unbelievable benefits right now, right here on Earth. From space, we can monitor, manage and care for our planet. Satellite-based sensors show us the short- and long-term effects of human activity on our environment. Many companies are using their interest in space to help solve problems here, from using hyperspectral imaging(高光谱成像), which enable us to map vegetation(植被) and rain forests, to microsatellites that provide global connectivity for the network of things. My company, OneWeb, is focusing on what I believe is one of the world’s most important issues: the need for equal access to the Internet. The Internet has become our economic lifeblood. And yet, nearly half of the world’s population doesn’t have Internet access. Space is playing a key role in bridging this digital divide. OneWeb is launching 1,980 satellites to help bring Internet access to people everywhere, and our first production satellites are already flying in space and have shown very high download speeds. Fiber and cable Internet access technologies already cover most financially viable(可行的) major cities. Similarly, these regions will also be the first to be served with 5G. Poor communities are the last to get connected, and without connectivity, those communities have no chance to lift themselves from poverty. OneWeb’s satellites will reach every community in the world and enable equal access to the Internet for the world’s less developed places. Fifty years from the day when man first walked on the moon, we are still only approaching the possible. There will be tens of thousands of new satellites, space stations and factories in the coming years to bring advancements in communications, scientific research, monitoring the earth, exploring space and more. This is exciting, but we must take action carefully. 12. What is the second paragraph mainly about? A. Benefits space exploration can bring to us. B. Problems space exploration leads to. C. Steps of space exploration requires. D. Equipment space exploration needs. 13. What is OneWeb aiming to do? A. Increase download speeds. B. Narrow the gap in Internet learning. C. Help people set up and maintain a website. D. Enable people to make use of the Internet equally. 14. What can be inferred from the text? A. More than six decades ago, man first walked on the moon. B. More than half of the world’s people have no access to the Internet. C. OneWeb’s satellites will make it possible for most people to be served with 5G. D. Without the Internet, poor communities can hardly help themselves out of poverty. 15. What will the writer probably continue to write about in the following paragraph? A. The risks of furthering space exploration. B. The value of setting up space stations. C. The way we could monitor our earth. D The features of microsatellites. 12. A 13. D 14. D 15. The weather was neither too hot nor too cold, which made people feel very comfortable. You could see fruit everywhere. Therefore, I spent as much time as possible in the wild enjoying the beauty of nature. One day’, I had just finished taking my dogs for their morning walk when I noticed something. There was a young maple tree growing in my hallway. It was growing out of a tiny pile of earth on the porch (门廊) . Its bottom hadn’t even turned to wood yet, but it had three lovely red leaves growing out of it. I smiled at this strong little tree getting so much growth and life out of so little soil. I knew, however, that it couldn’t grow much larger where it was. I bent (弯腰) down and gently took it out of the earth. I took it inside to show my daughter and have her take a picture of it. Then I walked with it out to the edge of the woods around the grass land behind my house. Walking into the forest, I had a wonderful feeling. Nature can teach us so much about life. There are so many wonders, growth, and beauty in it. You can’t be out in it for long without being filled with wonder and respect. I also took a moment to look at all the life around me. The tree seemed happy in its new home, its leaves glistening in the sunlight. I knew that this little tree would grow strong and tall, just like all the other trees in the forest. Para 2: Following my daughter’s suggestion, we built a garden to save plants. We collected seeds and seedlings from around the neighborhood, planting them in our small plot of land. B Njobati, a young woman from Cameroon, faced a challenging journey when she moved from her English-speaking area to a French-speaking area of the country to attend university. B. A promise for grandpa. D. A stolen cultural symbol. C A new study suggests that mindfulness education — lessons on techniques to calm the mind and body — can reduce the negative effects of stress and increase students’ ability to stay engaged, helping them stay on track academically and avoid behavior problems. After finding that students who self-reported mindful habits performed better on tests and had higher grades researchers from the Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University wanted to know if school-based mindfulness training could help more students reap similar benefits. A. Fiber and cable Internet access technologies already cover most financially viable(可行) major cities. D. The features of microsatellites. If you’ve ever hesitated in a crowded museum gallery, wondering how to appreciate it properly, these tips will help you fully experience your artistic journey. The temperatures were getting cooler and cooler, the air was turning drier, and I could already see the first yellow and red leaves on the trees. It’s my favorite season. There were trees, bushes, weeds, flowers, butterflies, bees, spiders, and birds all’ so full of life.
