Ⅰ. A Mass media are tools of communication.Mass media allow us to record and pass information rapidly to a large, scattered (分散的) audience. They extend our ability to talk to each other by helping us overcome barriers caused by time and space. There are various ways in which mass media make daily life easier for us.First, they inform and help us keep a watch on our world. They gather and pass on information we would be unlikely or unable to get on our own. Second, mass media help us to arrange our time and life. What we talk about and what we think about are greatly influenced by the media. When people get together, they tend to talk about certain happenings in the newspapers or on TV.Because we are exposed to different points of view through different kinds of media every day, we are able to evaluate (评价) all sides of a certain issue. Third, the media are used to persuade people.A good example is advertising through the media.Newspapers, magazines and TV are filled with all kinds of colorful, persuasive advertisements.Though many advertising may not say openly that they want you to buy a certain product, they describe their products in such a way that you may want to buy them. Fourth, the media also entertain. All of the media make some efforts to entertain their audience. For instance, even though the newspaper is primarily a medium of information, it also contains entertainment features (特征).Television, motion pictures, fiction books and some radio stations and magazines are devoted mainly to entertainment. It is estimated that in the future, the entertainment function of mass media will become even more important than it is now. 1.This passage mainly tells us . A.something about the functions of mass media B.something about the development of mass media C.how media entertain us D.the types of mass media 解析:A 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段的“Mass media allow us to record and pass information rapidly to a large, scattered audience. They extend our ability to talk to each other by helping us overcome barriers caused by time and space.(大众传媒使我们能够将信息迅速地记录下来并传递给大量分散的观众。它们通过帮助我们克服时间和空间造成的障碍,扩展了我们相互交谈的能力。)”和第二段的“There are various ways in which mass media make daily life easier for us.(大众传媒以各种方式使我们的日常生活更容易。)”可知,本文主要告诉我们的是大众传媒的功能和作用,即something about the functions of mass media。故选A。 2.According to the passage, what are mass media? A.Tools for advertisements which persuade people to buy things. B.Tools for entertainments which make daily life easy. C.Tools for communication which record and pass information to people. D.Tools for education which help improve people's knowledge. 根据第一段的“Mass media allow us to record and pass information rapidly to a large, scattered audience.(大众传媒使我们能够将信息迅速地记录下来并传递给大量分散的观众。)” C。 3.How many ways that mass media help make daily life easy are mentioned in this passage? A.Two. B.Three. C.Four. D.Five. 根据第二段的“First, they inform and help us keep a watch on our world.(首先,它们提供信息并帮助我们监视我们的世界。)”,第三段的“Second, mass media help us to arrange our time and life.(第二,大众媒体帮助我们安排我们的时间和生活。)”,第四段的“Third, the media are used to persuade people.(第三,媒体被用来说服人们。)”和第五段的“Fourth, the media also entertain.(第四,媒体也具有娱乐性。)” C。 4.Which of the following statements is NOT true? A.From mass media, we know what is happening in the world. B.Sometimes we arrange our time and life according to mass media. C.Mass media's main purpose is to pass the information of advertising. D.Mass media can make people feel easy. 根据倒数第二段的“Though many advertising may not say openly that they want you to buy a certain product, they describe their products in such a way that you may want to buy them.(尽管许多广告可能不会公开表示他们想让你买某种产品,但他们会以这样一种方式描述他们的产品,让你可能想买。)” B (2024·新课标Ⅰ卷)In the race to document the species on Earth before they go extinct, researchers and citizen scientists have collected billions of records.Today, most records of biodiversity are often in the form of photos, videos, and other digital records. Though they are useful for detecting shifts in the number and variety of species in an area,a new Stanford study has found that this type of record is not perfect. “With the rise of technology it is easy for people to make observations of different species with the aid of a mobile application,”said Barnabas Daru, who is lead author of the study and assistant professor of biology in the Stanford School of Humanities and Sciences.“These observations now outnumber the primary data that comes from physical specimens(标本),and since we are increasingly using observational data to investigate how species are responding to global change,I wanted to know:Are they usable?” Using a global dataset of 1.9 billion records of plants, insects, birds, and animals,Daru and his team tested how well these data represent actual global biodiversity patterns. “We were particularly interested in exploring the aspects of sampling that tend to bias(使有偏差)data, like the greater likelihood of a citizen scientist to take a picture of a flowering plant instead of the grass right next to it,”said Daru. Their study revealed that the large number of observationonly records did not lead to better global coverage. Moreover, these data are biased and favor certain regions, time periods, and species. This makes sense because the people who get observational biodiversity data on mobile devices are often citizen scientists recording their encounters with species in areas nearby. These data are also biased toward certain species with attractive or eyecatching features. What can we do with the imperfect datasets of biodiversity? “Quite a lot,”Daru explained.“Biodiversity apps can use our study results to inform users of oversampled areas and lead them to places—and even species—that are not wellsampled. To improve the quality of observational data, biodiversity apps can also encourage users to have an expert confirm the identification of their uploaded image.” 5.What do we know about the records of species collected now? A.They are becoming outdated. B.They are mostly in electronic form. C.They are limited in number. D.They are used for public exhibition. 根据第一段的“Today, most records of biodiversity are...videos,and other digital records.” 选项中的“electronic form”是对原文中的“videos, and other digital records”的同义转换。故选B。 6.What does Daru's study focus on? A.Threatened species. B.Physical specimens. C.Observational data. D.Mobile applications. 根据第二段的“and since we are increasingly using observational data...Are they usable?” C。 7.What has led to the biases according to the study? A.Mistakes in data analysis. B.Poor quality of uploaded pictures. C.Improper way of sampling. D.Unreliable data collection devices. 8.What is Daru's suggestion for biodiversity apps? A.Review data from certain areas. B.Hire experts to check the records. C.Confirm the identity of the users. D.Give guidance to citizen scientists. 解析:D 细节理解题 根据第七段的“Biodiversity apps can use...to have an expert confirm the identification of their uploaded image.” 结合第五段的“the people who get...citizen scientists”可知,这里的用户指代的是公民科学家。 Ⅱ.完形填空 (2023-2024学年承德双滦区实验中学阶段练习)We often wonder how we're doing as parents.Kids don't come with an instruction guide, so how do we 1 the job we do raising them?
