(2023-2024学年常德市一中阶段练习)Thomas Mayfield had a major problem to solve in his fifthgrade classroom.
“I'm not good at adding.I don't know how to regroup or borrow.I'm not good at subtracting (减法).Or I don' t know my facts yet, and I'm a fifthgrader,” Mayfield's students used to tell him.The 42yearold maths teacher from Fort Worth, Texas, knew it was important to try something new, especially because most of his students were also struggling outside of the classroom.“Single parent homes, parents put in prison, low financial stability—a lot of misfortunes that were going on,” he said.
To reach students in a way that was familiar and inviting, he brought rap music to the classroom.Mayfield played an instrumental beat to a rap song.He got his students excited. Then they started to rap about decimal (十进位) point places.“Let's start with the tenths.Like a dime to a dollar, there's 1 out of 10.Then we move to the hundredths, one part out of many. One out of 100, we call that a penny...”rapped Mayfield and students.
Pareece Morehouse, one of Mayfield's former students, is now in tenth grade and loves oldschool rap. Before Mr.Mayfield's class, Morehouse didn't like maths and struggled with it.But pairing the difficult subject with music was gamechanging for her.
“I can recall myself at home doing homework and just singing the song in my head, helping me understand,” Morehouse said.“It was really a great way to help me make it through maths.”
“Students will produce work if you reach them where they are and take notes on what they're interested in, whether that's music, art or sports. It's important to use things that resonate (共鸣) with them,” said Mayfield.

Recently, research on how a new virtual reality (VR) experience educated primary children about the fire disasters was done.It was developed by the University of South Australia, aiming to educate children to learn how to be safer in a fire.
Focusing on children aged 10-12 years old, the new VR experience presents a situation where children are tasked to look after a friend's dog just before a fire event begins to unfold. They participate in a series of problemsolving activities to help save and protect themselves and the dog.
The findings showed that more than 80 percent of children reported that they felt more confident to calmly evaluate the options and make wise decisions to protect themselves from a fire. This is especially significant considering that 91 per cent of participants originally lacked any knowledge of fires, and that 67 per cent had said that they were too young to make safety decisions in a fire.
The researchers believed such immersive (沉浸式的)VR experiences had real potential to engage, educate and empower the young.“As children born in digital times, they are engaged by such technology and they can experience events realistically yet within the safe environment,”said Delene Weber, one of the researchers.“Welldesigned VR can provide an opportunity for children to apply newly acquired knowledge, strengthen their learnt concepts, and enable immediate feedback—all incredibly valuable learning tools.”
Meanwhile, because children have fewer life experiences, aren't as physically strong, and are less likely to have learned much about fire safety, they're often most at risk.Yet the capacity for children to contribute to fire safety at their household should not be underestimated.
“Children do not need to be passive victims of disasters and with purposebuilt virtual reality experiences such as these,we can help empower children to understand the risks and realize they can help,”said Weber.

(2023-2024学年黄桥中学阶段练习)If you have a hard time getting along with your teachers, going to class can be a nightmare (噩梦).So here are some tips to help you build a friendly relationship with almost all the teachers.
Talk to your teachers. In many cases, a short discussion can clear up the entire conflict (冲突).Ask your teachers if it is convenient for you to talk in private. 1 If you appear angry or unhappy in front of them, the conflict is unlikely to be solved.
2 Teachers have many years of teaching experience in the subjects they teach. So discussing the best ways to succeed in the classroom may give you the opportunity to see the best instructors.
Learn to understand their teaching methods. 3 If you are used to a very relaxing class, learning to be successful in a strict environment is difficult and vice versa (反之亦然).In most cases, it is necessary to give yourself some time to get used to a new teaching method.
Ask about your teachers' hobbies. If you know about one of their hobbies, you can talk about it with them. And you can try to find if you have something in common. 4
Learn why your teachers choose to teach.Approach the teachers at an appropriate (适当的) time before or after class, not during class.Consider saying something like, “I've always wondered why people become teachers. 5 Why did you decide to teach?”
A.It seems to be a difficult job.
B.Ask your teachers how you can do well in class.
C.Join in activities with your teachers after school.
D.Always be polite and show respect in a conversation.
E.A way to discover the positive side of things is to keep diaries.
F.A shared interest may help you see your teachers from a different viewpoint.
G.Sometimes, you may not like some teachers because of their ways of teaching.

3.G 根据段首句“Learn to understand their teaching methods.(学会理解他们的教学方法。)”可知这段是谈论理解老师教学方法的。下文“If you are used to a very relaxing class, learning to be successful in a strict environment is difficult and vice versa. In most cases, it is necessary to give yourself some time to get used to a new teaching method.(如果你习惯了一个非常轻松的课堂,在一个严格的环境中学习成功是困难的,反之亦然。在大多数情况下,需要给自己一些时间来适应一种新的教学方法。)”所以G选项“有时候,你可能不喜欢一些老师,因为他们的教学方法。”和下文紧密相连,并且符合本段主旨,故选G。
4.F 根据本段首句“Ask about your teachers' hobbies.(询问老师的爱好。)”可知,主要是讲了解老师的爱好,找出共同的兴趣,这样才能帮助你更好地了解老师,故选F选项“共同的兴趣爱好可以帮助你从不同的角度看待老师。”符合题意,故选F。
