B I grew up in a poor family. This was something I did not realize until I was older. I thought everyone in the city took the bus, because everyone in my neighborhood took the bus. I thought everyone in the city used the food bank, because all my friends’ cupboards were filled with the same government-labeled food that filled my cupboards. We all wore hand-me-down clothes. Grocery shopping was my first experience understanding that my family was a little different. My mom used paper money that looked different from the paper money others in line were using. I asked my mom why our money looked different. She said that we used food stamps that were helped by the government so we could eat. In high school, I was still embarrassed and wished we were not so poor, but I loved my mom and the other members of my family and knew we had things to be proud of. My mother taught me how to love and told me to believe in myself. Growing up in poverty taught me perseverance (毅力). I have always believed in myself and my abilities. I knew I could focus on school and build a life that looked different from my childhood. As I became a man, I started understanding how my experiences enabled me to be resilient (有韧性的), and how to respect people for who they are as an individual—and not by what they have. I think there are a lot of fixed images placed on those experiencing poverty that do not actually come from the people experiencing it. These judgments come from people on the outside trying not to look into the experience. Hardworking , trustworthy, reliable, clean, efficient, successful and disciplined are all words not typically associated with poverty. But those words are very much shown by those experiencing poverty. I am proud to be who I am and proud of where I’m from. 24.Why did the mom use different paper money in the shop? A.To show our difference. B.To spend the extra stamps. C.To support the government. D.To buy food without real money. 25.What can we learn about the mom from Paragraph 3? A.She was wise. B.She was patient. C.She was single. D.She was educated. 26.What’s the author’s attitude towards to his experience? A.Frightened. B.Annoyed. C.Grateful. D.Confused. 27.Which is the most suitable title for the text? A.Struggling With Being Poor B.Lessons From Growing Up Poor C.Staying Poor Means Staying Foolish D.My Childhood Memories C New glove can translate sign language instantly through an app, researchers say California researchers developed a glove embedded with electronic sensors that can translate American Sign Language (ASL) into English in real time through an app on your smartphone. Unlike its past counterparts, the new glove is lightweight, inexpensive and long-lasting. The device could help remove communication barriers between signers and non-signers. Hopefully, this may open up an easy way for people who use sign language to communicate directly with non-signers without needing someone else to translate for them. The team worked with four people who are deaf and use ASL and had them repeat gestures up to 15 times while wearing the glove-like device, simultaneously teaching a machine how to recognize them. The glove has thin, stretchable sensors made from “electrically conducting yarns” that run up each finger and convert the movements into signals. These signals are sent to a “dollar-coin-sized” circuit board placed on the person’s wrist, which then wirelessly transfers them over to a smartphone. The system was able to recognize 660 hand motions and finger placements that stand for each letter in the English alphabet, different phrases and each number. The algorithm (计算程序) recognized the correct signs about 99% of the time, and in less than one second — or about a tone word per second. The researchers also placed sensors in between the participants eyebrows and on the sides of their mouths to “capture facial expressions that are a part of ASL”. The same exact hand-shape and movement can totally change meaning because of the facial expression that is used to accompany it. Take the word MUCH. The degree of how much can totally be determined by the facial expression alone while the sign stays the same. Researchers said the glove would need to learn more vocabulary and be able to translate signs faster in order to get a commercial version of it in stores. 28.Who is the new glove intended for? A.Translators. B.Deaf people. C.English learners. D.Sign language users. 29.What does Paragraph 4 mainly say about the new glove? A.Its reliability. B.Its components. C.Its working principle. D.Its broad applications. 30.How do researchers improve the glove’s correctness of recognition? A.By connecting it to smartphones. B.By catching information from more angles. C.By lengthening the time of catching gestures. D.By inputting more letters and words in English. 31.What will researchers do with the glove in the future? A.Bring it to market. B.Update its outlook. C.Extend its service life. D.Improve its performance. D Chinese food is well received by the world. Who doesn’t long for a favorite Chinese dish? But there is one interesting concept concerning Chinese food which is almost unheard of in the West, and which is becoming increasingly ignored by the youth of the East — the ancient custom of “tonic (滋补) food”. Tonic food is food which is consumed to improve one’s well-being or avoid sickness. For instance, it was once the custom for new mothers to eat a sesame oil (麻油) hot pot every day for the first month after giving birth. It was believed that this dish would benefit the muscles, reduce pain, improve circulation, stimulate sweating, and warm the body. Some foods, such as goat meat and spinach, are seen as “hot”, while others, such as Chinese cabbage and radishes, are seen as “cold”. One should be careful not to eat too much of either “hot” or “cold” food. However, how much “hot” or “cold” food one should eat depends on the time of the year, how the food is prepared and what it is prepared with, and the individual’s health. The custom of employing tonic food for a healthier life also influences the catering industry. Chinese herbal medicines, such as wolfberry (枸杞), can be found on many a restaurant menu, either added to fruit tea or as a beneficial addition to a dish. These herbs attract customers, such as overworked office staff, in need of a modest pick-me-up. So, whether you need to boost your strength with a large helping of chicken soup, or increase your mental powers with a serving of fish soup, you may find that this ancient Chinese custom could be just the tonic you were looking for. 32.What is the present situation of tonic food? A.It is catching less attention. B.It is enjoyed by many young people. C.It is well-known worldwide. D.It is becoming increasingly popular. 33.What is believed to benefit new mothers? A.Chinese cabbage. B.Fruit tea. C.Fish soup. D.Sesame oil hot pot. 34.Which of the following best explains “catering” underlined in Paragraph 3? A.Medicine. B.Restaurant. C.Manufacture. D.Agriculture. 35.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.The Charm of Chinese Cuisine B.The Popularity of Tonic Food C.An Introduction of Chinese Tonic Food D.Differences Between Hot Food and Cold Food When meeting someone for the first time, who won’t know you habitually frown if you’re concentrating, you will be misunderstood. 36 Here are four more. Ignore the context 37 Depending on the context, the same nonverbal signals can take on totally different meanings. People can’t really understand someone’s nonverbal message unless they understand the circumstances behind it. If you yawn in a staff meeting because you were up early for an international business call —let people know why you’re tired. Find meaning in a single gesture People often try to evaluate your state of mind by monitoring your body language. But they take more notice of any single sign that indicates you’re in a bad mood and not to be approached. 38 So when you are standing with your arms folded for your comfort, others may judge your body language as resistant and unapproachable. Evaluate you through the biases (偏见) A neighbour likes me from the moment we met. Before long. I know it’s because I resemble her favorite aunt. That’s how biases can work —the so-called “halo effect.” But biases can also work against you. What if you remind people of someone they dislike? In that case, their original response to you wouldn’t be a good one. 39 Compare your behavior with their culture Most of culture’s values are absorbed unconsciously at an early age. Such values affect how people think and act, and more importantly, the kind of criteria by which people judge others. 40 For instance, people’s greetings, hand gestures etc. vary with cultures. Therefore, there are many mistakes people make when reading your body language. Under-standing them, and trying not to make the same mistakes, will help you display nonverbal ability. A.Nonverbal signals are very common in our daily life. B.They would even look for your behavior that confirmed this bias. C.What they didn’t realize was that, for this individual, it was a normal behavior. D.In fact, people easily make mistakes reading and reacting to others’ body language. E.What’s proper and correct in one culture may be ineffective or even rude in another. F.Besides, they often assign meaning to negative messages than it does to positive ones. G.Context includes locations, relationships, time, experience, and even room temperature. I am an eleven-year-old primary school boy and all of my teachers complained about my unreadable handwriting. Unfortunately, soon I completely 45 all my ability to write, which is very limiting when still at school. My spelling became worse as I no longer had to think about it due to the computer’s auto corrector. However, this wasn’t what 46 me the most. It was the fact that I was no longer learning what I used to in class. The simple act of writing something down was a way of learning for me, and a laptop could never 47 that. Exams started to become harder as I no longer knew all the words and phrases, because I 48 wasn’t learning it just by typing it down. Also each lesson was at least five minutes shorter because of the time needed to 49 at the beginning of the class and pack away at the end of lessons. Finding and learning notes in your computer is also less 50 . Furthermore, a computer does not have the same 51 of use as paper, as paper doesn’t have to be fully 52 . Finally I couldn’t focus on my class 53 I had the whole Internet at my fingertips. So during lessons I would often search the Internet and have 54 . It was the great Christmas shopping time. I asked my son and daughter to go together, but they preferred to play at home. People were busy buying gifts for their beloved ones. It seemed that the bigger the gifts were the better they would be. I shook my head sadly and walked on. I was shopping alone trying to pick up some thick winter socks to warm my frozen feet. As I rounded the corner in the store I saw a Christmas tree full of paper angels (天使). On each angel was the name of a needy child whose family couldn’t afford to buy them a gift that year. Shoppers who picked an angel could buy a simple toy or gift. The store would wrap it and send it to the child that Christmas. Around the tree I saw a teenage boy and girl picking out several angels. Their mother was smiling while she watched them. I walked up next to her and started talking with her. She told me that her children started this several years ago when she first explained to them what the Charity Angel tree was for. Each offered to give up one of their toys that year so that a needy child could have one. It didn’t stop then, though. Each year since the kids had saved money they earned throughout the year and bought more and more children the gifts they wouldn’t have otherwise. It had become a family tradition. I smiled when she finished, and walked over to the tree.______________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Waving to the two happy children, I left the store, planning what to do next Christmas.____________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ( 1 )原创精品资源学科网独家享有版权,侵权必究! ………………○……………… … 学校: ______________ 姓名: _____________ 班级: _______________ 考号: ______________________ ) 2024-2025学年高二英语上学期第一次月考卷 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. 1.Where does the conversation take place? I don’t have to worry about spelling mistakes and whether I have 43 to carry my textbooks. I was always organised, as I could not leave my books at home anymore as they were 44 in my machine, so you would think that it was beneficial as a learning tool. I smiled when she finished, and walked over to the tree.__________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Waving to the two happy children, I left the store, planning what to do next Christmas._______________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 试题 第7页(共12页) 试题 第8页(共12页) 试题 第1页(共10页) 试题 第2页(共10页) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024-2025学年高二英语上学期第一次月考卷 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 全解全析 注意事项: 1. 1.Where does the conversation take place? Well, if you live in the state of California in the U.S.A., the answer may be to buy an electric car. The state is pushing through laws, which means people will soon have no choice when they need to buy a car. Under new rules, 35% of new vehicles sold in the state must be partly or fully electrically powered by 2026. This percentage then jumps to 68% by 2030. And by 2035, all vehicles sold in California will be electric. California is seen as the leading American state when it comes to climate change. This makes sense, as it has the biggest population with more than 39 million people living in the West Coast state. It is also an area of natural beauty, from its golden beaches to its forests of giant trees, which may inspire the people of California to act faster than their neighbors. A Polytechnic Museum, Russia For many guests of the capital, some of the most vivid childhood memories are associated with this museum. This was something I did not realize until I was older. I thought everyone in the city took the bus, because everyone in my neighborhood took the bus. I am proud to be who I am and proud of where I’m from.(当我长大成人后,我开始明白我的经历是如何让我变得坚韧,以及如何尊重一个人的个性,而不是他们拥有什么。 根据最后一段“I think there are a lot of fixed images placed on those experiencing poverty that do not actually come from the people experiencing it. 根据第二段中“The device could help remove communication barriers between signers and non-signers. (该设备可以帮助消除手语使用者和非手语使用之间的沟通障碍。希望这能为使用手语的人与不使用手语的人直接交流开辟一条简单的途径,而不需要别人为他们翻译)”可知,这款新手套是为手语使用者设计的。故选D项。 29.主旨大意题。根据第四段“The glove has thin, stretchable sensors made from “electrically conducting yarns” that run up each finger and convert the movements into signals. These signals are sent to a “dollar-coin-sized” circuit board placed on the person’s wrist, which then wirelessly transfers them over to a smartphone. (这款手套有细长的可伸缩传感器,由“导电纱线”制成,每个手指上都有传感器,可以将动作转化为信号。这些信号被发送到放置在人手腕上的一个“一美元硬币大小”的电路板上,然后被无线传输到智能手机上)”可知,本段主要介绍了这款新手套的工作原理。故选C项。 30.推理判断题。根据第六段中“The researchers also placed sensors in between the participants eyebrows and on the sides of their mouths to “capture facial expressions that are a part of ASL”. (研究人员还在参与者的眉毛之间和嘴侧放置了传感器,以“捕捉作为美国手语一部分的面部表情”)”可推知,研究人员通过从更多角度捕捉手语的信息来提高手套的识别准确性。故选B项。 31.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Researchers said the glove would need to learn more vocabulary and be able to translate signs faster in order to get a commercial version of it in stores. (研究人员表示,这款手套需要学习更多的词汇,并能够更快地翻译手语,才能在商店中销售)”可推知,在未来,研究人员将进一步提高这款手套的性能。故选D项。 D Chinese food is well received by the world. A.The Charm of Chinese Cuisine B.The Popularity of Tonic Food C.An Introduction of Chinese Tonic Food D.Differences Between Hot Food and Cold Food 【参考答案】 32.A 33.D 34.B 35.C 【语篇解读】 这是一篇说明文。 根据第一段中“But there is one interesting concept concerning Chinese food which is almost unheard of in the West, and which is becoming increasingly ignored by the youth of the East — the ancient custom of “tonic (滋补) food”.(但关于中餐,有一个有趣的概念在西方几乎闻所未闻,而东方的年轻人也越来越忽视它——那就是“滋补”的古老习俗)”可知,滋补食品它引起的关注越来越少。故选A项。 33. 根据第二段中“For instance, it was once the custom for new mothers to eat a sesame oil (麻油) hot pot every day for the first month after giving birth. It was believed that this dish would benefit the muscles, reduce pain, improve circulation, stimulate sweating, and warm the body.(例如,新妈妈在产后的第一个月里每天吃麻油火锅曾经是一种习俗。人们相信这道菜对肌肉有益,减轻疼痛,促进血液循环,刺激出汗,温暖身体)”可知,人们认为麻油火锅对新妈妈有好处。故选D项。 34.词句猜测题。根据第三段中“Chinese herbal medicines, such as wolfberry(枸杞), can be found on many a restaurant menu, either added to fruit tea or as a beneficial addition to a dish. These herbs attract customers, such as overworked office staff, in need of a modest pick-me-up.(在许多餐馆的菜单上都可以找到枸杞等中草药,它们要么被添加到果茶中,要么被作为有益的添加剂添加到菜肴中。这些草药吸引了顾客,比如工作过度的办公室职员,他们需要适度的提神)”可知,此处为使用滋补食品以健康生活的习俗也影响了餐饮业。故可猜测划线单词catering为“餐饮”的意思,结合选项B项Restaurant“餐饮,餐厅”意思一致。故选B项。 35.主旨大意题。根据文章大意以及第一段中“But there is one interesting concept concerning Chinese food which is almost unheard of in the West, and which is becoming increasingly ignored by the youth of the East — the ancient custom of “tonic (滋补) food”.(但关于中餐,有一个有趣的概念在西方几乎闻所未闻,而东方的年轻人也越来越忽视它——那就是“滋补”的古老习俗)”可知,文章主要介绍了正日益被东方年轻人说忽视的中国的补品。 When meeting someone for the first time, who won’t know you habitually frown if you’re concentrating, you will be misunderstood. 根据上文“When meeting someone for the first time, who won’t know you habitually frown if you’re concentrating, you will be misunderstood.(当你第一次和某人见面时,他不知道你会皱起眉头,如果你很专注,你会被误解。)” D选项“In fact, people easily make mistakes reading and reacting to others’ body language.(事实上,人们很容易对他人的肢体语言做出错误的解读和反应。)” 37.根据下文“Depending on the context, the same nonverbal signals can take on totally different meanings(根据上下文的不同,同样的非语言信号可以有完全不同的含义。)” G 选项“Context includes locations, relationships, time, experience, and even room temperature.(语境包括地点、关系、时间、经历,甚至是室温。)” 38.根据上文“But they take more notice of any single sign that indicates you’re in a bad mood and not to be approached. (但他们会更注意任何一个表明你心情不好、不宜接近的信号。)”以及后一句“So when you are standing with your arms folded for your comfort, others may judge your body language as resistant and unapproachable.(因此,当你为了舒适而交叉双臂站立时,别人可能会认为你的肢体语言是抗拒和不可接近的。)” F选项“Besides, they often assign meaning to negative messages than it does to positive ones.(此外,他们经常赋予负面信息以意义,而不是正面信息。)” 39.根据上文“But biases can also work against you. What if you remind people of someone they dislike? In that case, their original response to you wouldn’t be a good one. (但偏见也可能对你不利。如果你让人们想起他们不喜欢的人呢?在这种情况下,他们最初对你的回应并不好。)”可知,此处强调的是“预先的偏见”对给他人留下印象产生的影响。此处指出的是一些不好的偏见会让他人对自己的最初印象不好。B选项“They would even look for your behavior that confirmed this bias.(他们甚至会寻找你的行为来证实这种偏见。)” 40.根据前文“Most of culture’s values are absorbed unconsciously at an early age. Such values affect how people think and act, and more importantly, the kind of criteria by which people judge others.(大多数文化价值观都是在很小的时候就被无意识地吸收了。这些价值观影响着人们的思维和行为,更重要的是,影响着人们评判他人的标准。)”可知,此处强调了无意识吸收的文化价值所产生的影响。E选项“What is right in one culture may be ineffective or even rude in another.(在一种文化中正确的行为在另一种文化中可能是无效的甚至是粗鲁的。)” I am an eleven-year-old primary school boy and all of my teachers complained about my unreadable handwriting. Unfortunately, soon I completely 45 all my ability to write, which is very limiting when still at school. My spelling became worse as I no longer had to think about it due to the computer’s auto corrector. However, this wasn’t what 46 me the most. Exams started to become harder as I no longer knew all the words and phrases, because I 48 wasn’t learning it just by typing it down. Also each lesson was at least five minutes shorter because of the time needed to 49 at the beginning of the class and pack away at the end of lessons. 故填on。 59. 故填what。 60. 故填are regarded。 61. go on to do sth. 故填to earn。 62. play an important part in为固定短语,意思为:在…… 故填an。 63. Dear Jack, ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Yours, Li Hua 【参考答案】 Dear Jack, I’m sorry to know that you’re having difficulty falling asleep. What’s worse, this kind of symptom has affected your normal study and life after the mid-term exam this semester. The truth is that everyone will have one of those periods when things seem to be going wrong, so you don’t have to worry so much. Here are three useful tips: First, talk to someone you trust about how you feel. This is a good way of letting your stress out without hurting yourself. Second, go outdoors and play games with your friends as physical exercise is an effective way to have good sleep. And third, remain optimistic about your future. I hope you’ll soon feel calmer and carry on as normal. 词汇积累 更糟糕的是:what’s worse→worse still 影响:affect→influence/impact 担心:worry→concern 建议:tip→suggestion/advice 2. This is a good way of letting your stress out without hurting yourself. This is a good way of letting your stress out, which will not hurt yourself. 【点睛】 [高分句型1] I’m sorry to know that you’re having difficulty falling asleep.(运用了that引导的宾语从句) [高分句型2]The truth is that everyone will have one of those periods when things seem to be going wrong, so you don’t have to worry so much. It was late December. I smiled when she finished, and walked over to the tree.__________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Waving to the two happy children, I left the store, planning what to do next Christmas._________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【参考答案】 I smiled when she finished, and walked over to the tree. Feeling eager and excited, I reached for the paper angels. “Who will be the child?” I whispered. “In spite of my struggle, I would like to offer her a simple Christmas gift.” At this time, the teenage boy and girl whose mother I talked with just now approached me, showing me their gifts which were wrapped by the store, broad smiles on their faces. Definitely, their virtue really made a big difference to me. I really admired them for their being so caring and kind to help needy children. After a while, we said goodbye with a hug. Waving to the two happy children, I left the store, planning what to do next Christmas. On my arrival at my home, I was greeted by my son and daughter. As soon as I sat down, I poured out the Charity Angle tree to them in detail. What’s more, I explained to them the gift that I chose. After listening with great interest, they shouted, “From now on, we will save money and buy gifts for more children”. We agreed to make it a family tradition at the Christmas shopping time every year. Obviously, it was small acts of kindness that add up, which is significant to our society. 伸手去拿:reach for/reach out for ②.提供某人某物:offer sb sth/provide sb with sth ③.大声说:shout/exclaim 情绪类 ①.赞赏:admire/appreciate ②.兴奋的:excited/thrilled 【点睛】 [高分句型1] At this time, the teenage boy and girl whose mother I talked with just now approached me, showing me their gifts which were wrapped by the store, broad smiles on their faces. (运用了whose和which引导的定语从句、现在分词作状语和独立主格结构) [高分句型2] Obviously, it was small acts of kindness that add up, which is significant to our society.
