B I walked home with my friend Jerry after school. He said goodbye to me and headed off to his house. When I was walking alone, I suddenly noticed a boy in front of me. He was carrying some of the same school books as mine. He seemed to be singing a song in a very low voice, but I couldn’t understand the words. I caught up to him and said “Hello there”. He was surprised, and one of his books fell down on the ground. I picked it up and handed it to him. He said “Thank you” in a strange way, like with a strong accent (口音). “Your science book is just like mine.” “Oh, yes, it is,” he said. We soon began walking together and talking. It turned out he was in my science class, and 1didh’t even know it! His name was Ahmad, and his family moved here this year. Ahmad was a hard name to say correctly(正确地), but about the time we reached his house, I could say it clearly. He asked me to go to his house with him, and it seemed like a much better idea than to head right home to start my homework. His family welcomed me like an important guest. He said in his culture(文化), people are very kind to strangers. His mom brought out some great snacks. Ahmad’s father and two sisters wanted to hear all about me, my family, and my schooling. But their story opened up a new world for me! Ahmad’s family had to leave their lifelong home because of the war(战争). They left with only what they could carry. His family was happy to feel safe here, and they seemed pleased that Ahmad brought a friend home. After that day, Ahmad and I became friends. They left their hometown with everything they had 43. What does the writer learn from his friendship with Ahmad? A. Friends are important in our lives. B. We should be kind to a friend’s family. C. Classmates can easily become good friends. D. People with different experiences can be friends. C Some animals are “shapeshifting”. This means they are feather changing how their bodies work. Scientists have found that birds’ beaks are larger because of the changing climate (气候). Today, the global climate is rapidly warming. Scientists found warm-blooded animals can keep their body temperature constant (恒定). They are adapting to a hotter climate. To adapt means to change. Adaptations help animals stay alive in their environment. How Animals Cool Off Animals have to control their body temperature. If they do not, they can overheat. So animals have different methods to help them cool off. Birds, for example, use their beaks, which are not covered by feathers. They help birds reduce body heat. Mammals (哺乳动物), which breathe air, have backbones, grow hair and produce milk, use similar methods. They use their ears, tails and legs to help them control body temperature. Scientists have studied this in the past years. They have studied animals in warmer climates. They know that some of these animals have evolved (进化) certain features. These features allow animals to reduce body heat more easily. They are becoming more obvious as the climate warms. This is particularly true in birds. 45 Sara Ryding works at Deakin University in Australia and studies birds. “Shapeshifting does not mean that animals are dealing successfully with climate change and that all is fine,” Ryding said. “It just means they are evolving to stay alive.” The study found that birds are changing the most. For example, several types of Australian parrots showed changes. Their beak size has increased since 1871. Their beaks are now 4% to 10% larger. And that growth matches the summer temperature each year. Scientists have also reported changes in other animals. Tail lengths have increased in wood mice. Bats in warm climates have increased wing size, too. These changes might seem small, but Ryding says that could change as the planet becomes hotter. Ryding wants to keep studying “shapeshifting”. She will 3D scan museum bird samples (样品) from the past 100 years. She will see which birds are changing the size of their beaks because of climate change by studying digital copies of bird samples. Ryding thinks the climate change that we have created is putting pressure (压力) on animals, so humans should do more than just recognize the changes that animals have to make. She says that some animals will adapt. However, others will not. 44. In “shapeshifting”, ______. A. birds breathe air and change backbones B. bird samples are made into digital copies C. birds use their feathers to easily reduce body heat D. birds’ beaks grow larger because of climate change 45. Which of the following would be the best heading for Paragraph 5 and 6? A. What Animals Look Like B. All Is Not Well C. Though Life Is Challenging D. It Is Worth A Try 46. According to the last paragraph, Ryding probably agrees that ______. A. animals are suffering from human behavior B. technology won’t end animal “shapeshifting” C. humans haven’t realized animal “shapeshifting” yet D. it is natural for animals to experience climate change D Singing and music play an important part in our culture. You’ll find music in many parts of our lives: theater, television, movies, holidays, and celebrations. At home, music can become part of family cultures. From birth, parents use music to comfort children and to express (表达) love and joy. So, how can music impact (影响) children? The benefits (好处) of music A 2016 study found that musical experiences (经历) in childhood can improve brain development ( 促进大脑发育), especially in language learning and reading skills. According to the NAMM Foundation, learning to play an instrument can improve math learning and even help students get higher SAT scores. Also, music is good for all areas of child development and the skills they need to get ready for school. It helps the body and the mind work together. Music helps young children learn the sounds and meanings of words. Dancing to music helps children build sports skills. What’s more, music brings us joy. Just think about listening to a good song in the car with the window down on a beautiful day — that’s joy. Music games for school-age children and teens Most young school-age children are interested in kids’ singalong songs with counting, spelling, or remembering. They also begin expressing their likes and dislikes for different kinds of music. They may express an interest in music learning, such as taking singing or instrument lessons. Teens (青少年) may use musical experiences to make friends and to be different from parents and younger kids. They often want to go out and listen to music after school with a group of friends. Teens often have a strong interest in taking music lessons or playing in a band. There is no downside to bringing children and music together through fun games. We are able to enjoy the benefits of music from the moment we’re born. A good piece of Mozart may not improve our brain, but it’s enjoyable and beautiful. From the fun of listening to music, to learning a new language and social skills, music certainly enriches the lives of children. 47. We can usually find music when we________. go to the theater watch movies at the cinema celebrate a birthday talk with friends or parents A. B. C. D. 48. From a 2016 study, we know music can help children________. A. learn a language well B. know the meanings of our life C. get on well with parents D. become interested in schoolwork 49. Which of the following music games do teens like? A. Singing singalong songs. B. Writing music for their bands. C. Giving kids music lessons. D. Listening to music with friends. 50. The main purpose (目的) of writing this passage is to________. A. tell us the importance of learning music in our life B. share some different musical experiences of children C. introduce the benefits of music in child development D. compare music games between young kids and teens (共10分,50-52每小题2分,53题4分) In 2007, Barrington Irving became the youngest person to fly alone around the world. He was just 23 years old—and he built the plane himself. How did he achieve this? Irving’s interest in flying started when he was 15. He was working in his parents’ bookstore in Miami, Florida. One of the customers was a pilot. Gary Robinson. One day, Robinson asked Irving if he was interested in flying. Irving didn’t think he was smart enough. But the next day, Robinson took Irving to an airport. He showed Irving inside the cockpit(驾驶舱)of a Boeing 777. That experience changed Irving’s life. Irving really wanted to fly, but flight school was expensive. To achieve his dream, he worked different jobs. He washed airplanes and cleaned swimming pools. At home he practiced flying on a video game. In the end, he got enough money for flight school. At flight school, Irving achieved his dream of learning how to fly. But he wasn’t finished. Next, he planned to build his own plane and fly alone around the world. Building the plane was difficult. Irving asked more than 50 companies for airplane parts. Most said no, but he persisted(顽强地坚持)in asking. Three years later, he had parts worth $300,000. Columbia, an airplane company, agreed to build a plane using the parts. Soon, his airplane was ready to fly. On March 23, 2007, Irving began his round-the-world trip. After 97 days-with 145 hours in the air-he landed back in Miami. A crowd of cheering people were there to welcome him. Irving saw many young people in the crowd, and this had a powerful effect on him. He wanted to use his experience to help other young people achieve their own dreams. “Everyone told me what I couldn’t do.” says Irving. “They said I was too young, that I didn’t have enough money. But even if no one believes in your dream,” he says, “you have to pursue(追求)it.” 51.When did Irving’s interest in flying start? __________________________________________________________ 52.Why did Irving work different jobs? __________________________________________________________ 53.What did Irving want to use his own experience to do? __________________________________________________________ 54. He dresses very precisely, and takes the most pride in his appearance. What makes the readers remember him is his waxed and curled moustache. Picture 40. ______________ C. And I began to know that your friends don’t have to be just like you. 41. Where did the writer meet Ahmad? A. In his science class. B. At the school gate. C. On his way home. D. At Jerry’s home. 42. What do we know about Ahmad’s family? A. They moved here many years ago. B. Their names were difficult to say. C. They welcomed Ahmad’s friend warmly. D. A. what the criminal looks like B. what did the criminal look like C. what the criminal likes D. what do the criminal look like 【答案】 15. C 句子中提到了“Kate is a kind girl”,说明Kate是一个女孩,所以应该用代词“She”来指代她。 因此,正确的表达方式应该是“The man with glasses is Tom’s father.”,意思是“戴眼镜的那个人是汤姆的父亲。” 选项A中的“what the criminal looks like”是陈述语序,表示“罪犯的长相是什么”,符合题意。 Today I went on a school trip. A。 D Singing and music play an important part in our culture. A. tell us the importance of learning music in our life B. share some different musical experiences of children C. introduce the benefits of music in child development D. compare music games between young kids and teens 47. (共10分,50-52每小题2分,53题4分) In 2007, Barrington Irving became the youngest person to fly alone around the world. Do you think Irving should pursue his dream? What made Irving successful in achieving his dream? __________________________________________________________ 【答案】 52. When he was 15. 53.
