“When I was young, I had so much energy and I loved building things. If I had an idea, I had to build it right now using what I could find around me,” says Danish artist Thomas Dambo. When Dambo was seven years old, he bought a mountain of cushions (垫子) from a nearby market to build a game room in his parents’ house. As a teenager, he built a “crazy” castle in his backyard.
Years later, 42-year-old Dambo is proudly showing his latest work: a giant (巨人) called Little Lui. Five meters tall, Little Lui is one of the six giants placed in the corners of Peel Region of Western Australia, which will be on show for at least a year. This work makes Dambo’s giants up to 99 around the world. His gentle giants have found homes in many different countries, as far as the United States, Belgium, China, Denmark, South Korea and now in Australia.
“For me, giants represent (代表) the voice of nature,” Dambo says. This deep respect for nature is the focus of Dambo’s building works. Dambo’s giants are made almost from local recycled wood: their faces from second-hand furniture and their hair from tree branches and leaves. Taking about 750 hours to complete, each giant is built out in nature.
“I hope by visiting the giants, people will think of rubbish as a resource. I think it’s really important that next generations are connected to nature,” Dambo says. “That’s why I tried to build the giants to attract young people. I want people to be inspired and to realize they don’t need a lot to create something big and beautiful.”
24.Which of the following can best describe young Dambo?
A.Creative. B.Homesick. C.Powerful. D.Frightened.

Do you love seeing beautiful lanterns outside? The best time to do this is during the Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the first lunar (阴历) month. This year it is on Feb22, marking the end of Spring Festival celebrations.
Lanterns are a big part of the festival. One story says that the bright lanterns show respect for gods. Another says that people light lanterns to celebrate the declining (消退的) darkness of winter.
Watching lanterns is a great event. You see lanterns in any sizes and shapes you can imagine, from animals to plants and flowers. To make this activity more fun, people paste (粘贴) riddles (谜语) on the lanterns. “Ten plus ten, still is ten, ten minus ten, again is ten.” Guess what? It is a pair of gloves.
In some places, people like releasing sky lanterns, which are called Kongming lanterns. A sky lantern is a small hot air balloon made of paper, with an opening at the bottom, where there is a small fire source. When the bright lights fly high in the sky, people bless family members and make wishes. Releasing river lights is also a way to bless for each other. Usually, the lights are in the shape of a lotus (荷花).
In old times, the Lantern Festival was also romantic. At that time, young girls were not allowed to go out very often except during certain festivals. Therefore, looking at lanterns gave young people a chance to meet each other. A line from Xin Qiji, a poet during the Song Dynasty, shows this: “Anxiously, I searched for her in thousands, hundreds of ways. Suddenly I turned, and there she was in the declining light.”
28.When do people celebrate the Lantern Festival?
A.On the 22nd day of the first lunar month.
B.On the 15th day of the first solar month.
C.On the 22nd day of February every year.

29.Which of the following statements about the Lantern Festival is TRUE?
A.People paste riddles to show off their knowledge.
B.Young girls were not allowed to go out on the day.
C.People light lanterns to drive animals away.
D.People make wishes when releasing lights.
30.How do you feel about the line from Xin Qiji?
A.Sad. B.Scared. C.Romantic. D.Anxious.
31.What would be the best title for the text?
A.The Origin of the Lantern Festival
B.River Lights on the Lantern Festival
C.Celebrations of the Lantern Festival
D.A day to Guess Lantern Riddles

After bikes and umbrellas are made sharable across China, some companies started eyeing the fitness market, so shared gym rooms have hit the streets in Beijing.
Unlike common gyms that provide large, open spaces for many members to share at the same time, the newly built shared gym rooms are small, stand-alonerooms for a person to use, often set up near living communities.
Every four-square-meter room provides a treadmill (跑步机), an air cleaner, a mirror, a television and an air conditioner, and users can let down the curtains for privacy. When exercising, users can listen to music, watch movies and check emails by connecting to the Internet by the screen fixed on the treadmill. But there’s no shower.
Similar to using a shared bike, users can locate a shared gym room by a smartphone app, book a room in advance and then need to scan a QR code for use. A refundable deposit (保证金) of 99 yuan is required, and users are charged 1 yuan every 5 minutes.
The shared gym rooms are created by Misspao, a Beijing-based technology company founded in July. Within several months since it was founded, the company has already raised over 100 million yuan. However, the idea of the shared fitness experience is not totally nascent. Last December, the company VRUN set up shared treadmills in office and apartment buildings.
The sharing economy is still becoming popular in China. According to Yicai Global, confident people are pouring millions into sharing start-ups. In March, the State Information Center published a report which predicts that the total value of China’s sharing economy will see a yearly growth of 40% in the coming years, and it is expected to make a great contribution to the country’s GDP.
32.What makes the shared gym room different from the common one?
A.Holding one person at a time. B.Standing in the living zone.
C.Offering open spaces. D.Having some advanced equipment.
33.What do people need to do to use the shared gym room?
A.Let down curtains for privacy.
B.Pay 100 yuan first.
C.Use a smartphone to book a room ahead of time.
D.Have a shower before exercise.
34.What does the underlined word “nascent” in paragraph 5 mean?
A.Simple. B.Popular. C.Satisfying. D.New.
35.What is the author’s purpose of writing the text?
A.To advertise a technology company.
B.To introduce shared gym rooms.
C.To support the shared gym rooms.
D.To predict the future of shared gym rooms.

Why is Chinese a Good Language to Learn
If there’s one language in the world that’s worth learning, it’s the Chinese language. You must be wondering why. 36
Gain the job opportunities. With the steady development for decades, China has become the second largest economic power in the world while keeping closely connected with the west. 37 It helps a lot if you’re looking to work in a career that involves dealing with Chinese buyers or suppliers.
Know about the history and culture. 38 In fact, China has had a significant say in the history of the world. It’s agreed that four great inventions—namely paper-making, printing, gunpowder and the compass—made their way from China to Europe via the famous Silk Road. To really understand the contribution of this part of the world and have a deep insight into the history of Asia, speaking the language can be beneficial.
39 Chinese literature, both ancient and modern, comes from an entirely different cultural background than literature written in the West. To really appreciate it, however, you have to read it in the original language. Many works of Chinese literature haven’t been translated into English, so you have no choice but to enjoy them as they stand. If you want to understand modern China, learning the Chinese language is vital.
Enjoy the food. In Britain, we’re familiar with Chinese food—or at least, a Westernized version of it. By learning the Chinese language, you’ll start to understand exactly what all of those words on the menu mean. In time, you might feel more comfortable ordering something that’s a little bit less familiar. 40
A.Translate the literature.
B.Appreciate the literature.
C.Here come a few good reasons to learn the language.
D.Therefore, the ability to speak Chinese language is pretty valuable.
E.China is home to the history and culture that runs for thousands of years.
F.You might even develop an appreciation for Chinese cuisine for its varieties.
G.Chinese culture has had a great influence on the world for thousands of years.

But as weeks went by, she became quieter and something seemed to be troubling her deeply.
My husband and I realized something was wrong. but we decided to wait until she was ready to open up. One evening, I prepared her favorite jiaozi for supper, hoping it would cheer her up. However, that night, it was different. She seldom touched it, lost in thought. After the meal. we gathered in the living room. a space where our family had shared many heart-to-hearts. The air was heavy with unspoken words. My husband and I exchanged a quick look before I decided to break the silence. I gently brought up the subject, “Lin, you seemed worried lately. Then I reached out, holding her hand and trying to offer comfort and said, “High school is a big step. and it’s okay to take some time to adjust (调整).

D.People make wishes when releasing lights.
30.How do you feel about the line from Xin Qiji?
A.Sad. B.Scared. C.Romantic. D.Anxious.
31.What would be the best title for the text?
A.The Origin of the Lantern Festival
B.River Lights on the Lantern Festival
C.Celebrations of the Lantern Festival
D.A day to Guess Lantern Riddles

After bikes and umbrellas are made sharable across China, some companies started eyeing the fitness market, so shared gym rooms have hit the streets in Beijing.
Unlike common gyms that provide large, open spaces for many members to share at the same time, the newly built shared gym rooms are small, stand-alone rooms for a person to use, often set up near living communities.

My 16-year-old daughter. Lin, had always been a cheerful girl, full of laughter. Her transition (转变) to senior high school was originally met with great enthusiasm (热情). She would come home every day, sharing with us tales of her new experiences, her friends and the fun news of high school life.
Is everything okay at school? You know you can always open up to me and your dad.”
Lin looked up. her eyes reflecting a mix of frustration (沮丧) and hopelessness. “Mom, I’m really struggling with physics. No matter how hard I try. I couldn’t understand it a little bit. I feel so lost.” she admitted, with her voice trembling slightly. My heart sank as I saw the sadness in her eyes. Physics had always been a challenging subject for her, but this time it seemed to go beyond the usual difficulties. Then I reached out, holding her hand and trying to offer comfort and said, “High school is a big step. and it’s okay to take some time to adjust (调整). The most important thing is that you’ve been honest about how you’re feeling.” My husband cut in, “We can work through this together. step by step. M: I shared a two- bedroom, two- bathroom apartment with my roommate for two years. He moved to London a few days ago and then I posted a “roommate wanted” advertisement in the local newspaper. I got a few calls. Finally, I got a call from Andrew, who is from Birmingham. He said on the phone that he would stop by to see the apartment. When he got here, I showed him around. The apartment has a very big living room with a few chairs and a big TV set. It doesn’t have a room for dinner, but it does have an eat- in kitchen. My room is the master bedroom with a bathroom. The guest room is a little small, and its bathroom is in the hall. I told Andrew that he could use any of the furniture except the chair. It’s broken. I also told him that he could use the refrigerator, and coffee maker. He said he liked the place. We agreed on the rent and he signed up. He will move in next month.

Do you love seeing beautiful lanterns outside? The best time to do this is during the Lantern Festival, which falls on the 15th day of the first lunar (阴历) month. This year it is on Feb 22, marking the end of Spring Festival celebrations.
32.A 33.C 34.D 35.B
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了在中国出现的新兴产业:共享健身房,以及共享健身房的一些特点和使用方法,以及这个项目的创立过程等。
32.细节理解题。根据第二段“Unlike common gyms that provide large, open spaces for many members to share at the same time, the newly built shared gym rooms are small, stand-alone rooms for a person to use, often set up near living communities. (普通健身房为许多会员同时提供大而开放的空间,而新建的共享健身房是供个人使用的小而独立的房间,通常设置在生活社区附近。)”可知,共享健身房不同于普通健身房,它一次容纳一个人,故选A。
33.细节理解题。根据第四段“Similar to using a shared bike, users can locate a shared gym room by a smartphone app, book a room in advance and then need to scan a QR code for use. (与使用共享单车类似,用户可以通过智能手机应用程序找到共享健身房,提前预订房间,然后扫描二维码使用。)”可知人们需要使用智能手机提前预订房间才能使用共享健身房,故选C。
34.词句猜测题。根据划线词上文“The shared gym rooms are created by Misspao, a Beijing-based technology company founded in July.”(共享健身房是由总部设在北京的七月份创建的一家公司Misspao创立的)可知共享健身房于今年创立,下文“Last December, the company VRUN set up shared treadmills in office and apartment buildings. (去年12月,VRUN公司在办公楼和公寓楼里设置了共享跑步机。)”可推断上文“However, the idea of the shared fitness experience is not totally nascent.”意思是“然而,共享健身体验的概念并不完全是新生事物。”所以nascent和new同义,意为“新生的”,故选D。
35.推理判断题。通读全文,尤其第一段“After bikes and umbrellas are made sharable across China, some companies started eyeing the fitness market, so shared gym rooms have hit the streets in Beijing. (在自行车和雨伞在中国变得可共享之后,一些公司开始关注健身市场,所以共享健身房在北京的街道上出现了。)”可知本文介绍了在中国出现的新兴产业:共享健身房,以及共享健身房的一些特点和使用方法,以及这个项目的创立过程等。所以作者写这篇文章的目的是介绍共享健身房,故选B。

第四部分 写作(共两节, 满分40分)
第一节(满分15分)

My 16-year-old daughter. Lin, had always been a cheerful girl, full of laughter. Her transition (转变) to senior high school was originally met with great enthusiasm (热情). She would come home every day, sharing with us tales of her new experiences, her friends and the fun news of high school life.
Remember, we are always here for you.” Then we offered her some practical advice.

67.例文
Over the next few weeks, Lin followed the ways we discussed. At school, she sought additional help from her physics teacher, who provided her with patient guidance. Lin also joined a study group with her classmates, where they solved difficult problems together and shared some study methods about physics. At home, my husband and I kept encouraging her and acknowledged every small victory in her understanding of physics. We could see her gradually but surely overcome her fear of physics.
Finally came Lin’s final-term physics exam. The night before, she was understandably nervous, but there was a newfound confidence in her eyes. The day after the exam, Lin came home with a big smile. While she didn’t get the top score, she did much better than we expected. This achievement was more than just about the grade; it was about the journey she undertook to overcome her challenges. This small success brought not just relief but also a stronger bond in our family, accompanied by our collective effort and belief in each other.
