I do expect Echo can publish more classic works and have a promising future. The journey continued into the sixth grade. I, as usual, worked independently. And I found a good thing. Isolated and single-minded, I could have all my attention focused on my study. Evidently, that mattered a lot. I had managed to achieve good scores in writing and I was well on my way. But that wasn’t enough to secure the first position yet. With the terminal exam approaching, the classroom was just like a competitive arena, all my classmates preparing hard for the academic battle. This, however, further stimulated the race within me. I, on my own initiative, formulated strategies to win, resolving not to let anyone take the first position from me. When finally the exam came, I, exceptionally calm and confident, gave it my all. The day arrived when the headmaster declared the exam results. As I waited, the headmaster began with the top performers in Grade one. The tension grew as each name was called. Eventually, he announced the first position in the sixth grade. It was claimed by our class. I was nervous. He called MY name. It was ME! The first one in Grade six! I lived up to my parents’ expectations! The feeling was indescribable, and I was just in a state of shock and happiness. Teachers and classmates, including Tom, sent me their congratulations. Guess how I reacted then? I shied away and slid back to the classroom. Over time, I have accepted who I am, for being introverted, as it turns out, can be a facilitator rather than a killer of my accomplishments. 1.What does Ann think of the path chosen? B(原创试题) 文章来源:https://www.storyberries.com/short-stories-for-kids/riddles-and-brain-teasers/ Two friends, Lily and Tom, were embarking on a long train journey. As the train pulled out of the station, they settled into their seats, looking for ways to pass the time. Lily, with a spark of enthusiasm in her eyes, suggested playing a game of riddles. Tom readily agreed, seeing it as a perfect way to make the journey more enjoyable. Lily started first. "I am taken from a mine, and shut up in a wooden case, from which I am never released, and yet I am used by almost every person. What am I?" Tom furrowed his brow and thought hard. After a few moments of contemplation, he shook his head. Lily grinned and revealed the answer, "It's a pencil lead. Pencils are made from graphite which is mined, and the lead is encased in wood." Tom then took his turn. "What has a face and two hands but no arms or legs?" Lily pondered deeply, her mind racing through various possibilities. Eventually, she admitted defeat. Tom triumphantly announced the answer, "A clock. It has a face and two hands to tell the time." They continued to play riddles throughout the journey. The train chugged along, and outside, the landscapes changed constantly. But Lily and Tom were completely immersed in their game. They laughed and joked as they tried to outwit each other with their riddles. The time passed quickly, and the long journey became an adventure filled with fun and mental challenges. 24. It works by using an Artificial Intelligence (AI) program to translate brain activity into words. Scientists say the program could help people who can’t speak because of a brain injury. To record brain activity without surgery, scientists used an fMRI machine, which can record the activity of the brain as it happens. To translate these recordings into words, scientists used an Al tool called GPT-l that predicts which word is most likely to come next, based on the information that came before. Scientists first trained GPT-1 on lots of stories people had told about their lives. Next, they trained GPT-1 to make connections between brain scans and spoken words. The testing was done on three human volunteers. Each person spent sixteen hours in an fMRI machine listening to stories. The machine created pictures showing which parts of their brain were active. GPT-1 then used these recordings to make connections between the idea s in the stories and the brain activity of the listeners. Then came the test. The scientists played a brand new story. GPT-I was only given recordings of the people’s brain activity. But the words that GPT-1 predicted were very similar to the words in the story that the people were listening to. The words weren’t exactly the same, but they often carried the same meaning. For example, when a person was listening to a story about a person who didn’t have a driver’s license, the program came up with this, “She has not even started to learn to drive yet.” The scientists say that GPT-1 is the first AI program to turn what people are thinking into words without brain surgery. The system isn’t something that is available outside the lab today, mainly because of the size and cost of fMRI machines. But in the future, a similar method could help people who have lost the ability to speak because of an injury or disease. 28.Why were the volunteers asked to listen to stories for 16 hours? A.To produce brain activity. B.To awaken their curiosity. C.To predict the new stories. D.To remember the words. 29.Which of the following best describes the test outcome? A.Unexpected. B.Successful. C.Discouraging. D.Complex. 30.What can be learned about this AI program? A.It’ll reach consumers soon. B.It hasn’t been put to use. C.It eases users’ financial worry. D.It’ll make patients learn to talk. 31.What’s the best title for the text? A.The fMRI Machine Is Used for Brain Surgery B.We Don’t Have to Worry About Brain Injury C.GPT-l Lets Humans Speak from Their Heart D.Scientists Train Al to Read Human Thoughts D Plants can often tell when they’re in danger — by smell. But not all leaves sniff out threats equally well. In corn plants, baby leaves do this best, new data show. “They recognize that danger is around the corner,” says Lei Wang. He’s a plant biologist at the University of Bern in Switzerland. He and his colleagues shared the new findings in Current Biology. Many plants are known to beef up their chemical defenses when they’ re about to get bitten by insects. One way plants sense such threats is through smell. They can detect smell molecules floating through the air. Those molecules may spread from an insect’s saliva (唾液). Or they may come from neighboring plants that have already been attacked and are on death’s door. Originally, Wang and his team set out to identify airborne chemicals that plants receive as warning scents. But when they started their study, they found that the adult corn leaves they tested did not produce many anti- predator chemicals in response to the smells. So the researchers turned to baby leaves. These are much more fragile than the adult leaves that scientists usually study. In the lab, the team exposed young and adult corn leaves to a common danger-signaling scent. This green-leaf compound is similar to the smell of freshly cut grass. A corn plant might encounter this scent if a nearby plant was in danger. The researchers measured how much danger signal each leaf released in response to the warning smell. New leaves were more sensitive than adult leaves. Even though the adult leaves were worse at “smelling”, however, they did release small amounts of defense chemicals. Other research shows that these leaves can process danger signals other than scent (such as insects munching on them). They can respond to these attacks, too, by issuing chemicals aimed at tackling the threat. Wang hopes his research may lead to the breeding of smarter crops — ones more resistant to insects. In the long run, that should reduce a need for harmful pesticides. 32.What do the underlined words “beef up” in Paragraph 3 mean? A.Dismiss. B.Balance. C.Strengthen. D.Overcome. 33.What can be learned from the text? A.Plants defend themselves in various ways. B.Plants sense danger from insect saliva. C.Freshly cut grass was used in the research. D.Adult corn leaves can’t produce defense chemicals. 34.What does Wang hope to achieve with his research? A.To reduce the use of poisonous pesticides. B.To improve the taste of crops. C.To cultivate more profitable plants. D.To create safer pesticides. 35.What is the best title for the text? A.Scientists Developing Smarter Crops B.New Study Revealing the Secret of Plants C.Plants Recognizing Danger in Different Ways D.Young Corn Leaves Smelling Danger Better Protecting the environment is not a new concept, but have you ever taken actions that are beneficial to our planet? Rich in natural tea saponin, tea seed powder effectively removes all kinds of stains, and dirt on fruits and vegetables. It is gentle on the hands and easy to clean. 38 Biodegradable paper tape With the rise of online shopping, parcels are secured with plastic tapes, which are not biodegradable. They may cause problems in the recycling process, leading to operational issues and reducing recycling efficiency. Fortunately, biodegradable paper tapes offer an eco-friendly alternative for packaging needs. 39 This ensures natural degradation over time without releasing environmental pollutants. Additionally, unlike most conventional tape, it can also be recycled, ensuring that it can contribute to circular production and keep it away from our landfills and oceans. Bamboo toothbrush Brushing teeth is an essential part of your daily oral care and mostly the brushes are plastic. 40 They stay for centuries, turning our landfills and oceans into a never-ending plastic party. Switching to a bamboo toothbrush is an environmentally conscious choice that helps reduce plastic pollution and waste in our oceans. A.Using it is a way to save money. B.It is extracted from the seeds of oil tea trees. C.Therefore, it’s an eco-friendly cleaning option. D.The sad truth is that they never truly break down. I spend a significant amount of time on introspection (内省). I lack the ease to engage in conversations with others. But I find this, on the other hand, can be an advantage. Once, as a school boy, I wondered if I, such an introverted (内向的) person, would be considered eccentric (古怪的). And I was even afraid that I could possibly get nowhere in my study. I went to school, where I was just an average student and struggled with shyness. My parents had high expectations, hoping I would finally be able to secure the first position at the end of the sixth grade. However, achieving that was no easy job. Given the keen competition between classmates and my then situation, it was challenging to stand out. I inquired with my friend, Tom, who consistently ranked first, and he revealed that his two aunts had been helping him, providing tutoring support. Asking for help was never easy for me; my shyness stopped me from seeking assistance. I believed that I had to depend on myself — it was my sole responsibility to learn and educate myself. This mindset surprisingly ignited (激发) a race within me to claim the top position in my class. However, I realized there were barriers on my path — several subjects troubled me. And I understood that achieving the first position would take a couple of years of hard work. I embarked on (开始) this journey when I was in the fourth grade. Attention focused in class and more time spent after class, I found I was gradually on the right track. By the fifth grade, work on my study was progressing steadily and improvement was obvious. Even Tom showed his surprise or I could say envy. But I knew my performance in writing still needed improving. And I knew, though without additional support, I could count on myself. The journey continued into the sixth grade. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The day arrived when the headmaster declared the exam results. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 试卷第4页,共13页 试卷第3页,共13页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 【赢在高考·黄金8卷】备战2025年高考英语模拟卷(新高考I卷) 黄金卷02 · (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. 1.What does Ann think of the path chosen? C.Watch people play. 【答案】18.C 19.A 20.C 【原文】 W: Perhaps you’ve had a tough experience in a team, feeling like you were really struggling with the other players, the coach, or even your own parents. Sometimes parents might forget that when kids mess up, what they really need is a little encouragement, not getting yelled at. That’s why many athletes appreciate fans who support them all the way, no matter what happens, as fans often provide more encouragement than coaches or teammates. There are plenty of teams focusing on healthy competition. In such teams, encouragement is key, not criticism. Their goal is to improve skills, enjoy the game, and have a good time. Maybe you don’t know the rules so you are afraid of doing something wrong. When you first start learning a game, you’ll likely pick up a few new rules each week, so don’t worry about mastering all the rules at once. If you can’t join in sports, then you can still be in the talks about sports. Go to watch people playing, watch games on TV, and read about sports in newspapers so that you can join in when others talk about sports. There are so many kinds of sports in the world and there are lots of talks about them. Believe it or not, being a sports talker is also an interesting hobby! A(原创试题) 文章来源:www.Toronto Zoo com The Toronto Zoo is one of the most renowned zoological institutions in Canada. 24. But Lily and Tom were completely engrossed in their game.(当他们玩的时候,他们分享着欢笑和友好的玩笑。 C Scientists have created a new tool that can know what you mean. A.The fMRI Machine Is Used for Brain Surgery B.We Don’t Have to Worry About Brain Injury C.GPT-l Lets Humans Speak from Their Heart D.Scientists Train Al to Read Human Thoughts 重点词汇 create(创造);Artificial Intelligence(人工智能);translate(翻译);brain activity(大脑活动);brain injury(脑损伤);fMRI machine(功能性磁共振成像机器);predict(预测);train(训练);volunteer(志愿者);testing(测试);similar(相似的);available(可获得的);injury(损伤);disease(疾病) 长难句式 “The scientists say that GPT-1 is the first AI program to turn what people are thinking into words without brain surgery.”(科学家们说,GPT-1 是第一个无需脑部手术就能将人们的想法转化为文字的人工智能程序。) 根据第二段“The machine created pictures showing which parts of their brain were active. A.Scientists Developing Smarter Crops B.New Study Revealing the Secret of Plants C.Plants Recognizing Danger in Different Ways D.Young Corn Leaves Smelling Danger Better
- Threats: 威胁
- Chemical defenses:
- Predator:
- Green-leaf compound: 绿叶化合物 长难句式 - “They recognize that danger is around the corner,” says Lei Wang.
- In the lab, the team exposed young and adult corn leaves to a common danger-signaling scent.
- Wang hopes his research may lead to the breeding of smarter crops — ones more resistant to insects.
根据第三段“Many plants are known to beef up their chemical defenses when they’ re about to get bitten by insects. One way plants sense such threats is through smell. 根据第三段“One way plants sense such threats is through smell. They can detect smell molecules floating through the air. Those molecules may spread from an insect’s saliva 根据最后一段“Wang hopes his research may lead to the breeding of smart er crops — ones more resistant to insects. In the long run, that should reduce a need for harmful pesticides.(王希望他的研究能够培育出对昆虫更具抗性的智能二次作物。 故选A项。 35. 由文章倒数第二段“New leaves were more sensitive than adult leaves. Even though the adult leaves were worse at ‘smelling’, however, they did release small amounts of defense chemicals. Other research shows that these leaves can process danger signals other than scent (such as insects munching on them). They can respond to these attacks, too, by issuing chemicals aimed at tackling the threat.(新叶比成年叶更敏感。 Protecting the environment is not a new concept, but have you ever taken actions that are beneficial to our planet? The findings, made by researchers from the CIB and Guangxi Institute of Botany of the CAS, 56 (publish) recently in the journal Ecology and Evolution. During a field 57 (investigate) on an oak community, the researchers found an unidentified specias of Oreocharis in Ninglan g County, Yunnan. By comparing the plant with several 58 (know) Oreocharis species, the researchers have confirmed it is a new species 59 has many unique characteristics. The new species was named Oreocharis oriolus (黄鹂属) 60 the lively bird oriole, as its bright yellow flowers resemble the 61 (bird) feather color. After extensive research on vegetation cover, the researchers found that the new species has a narrow distribution, 62 (grow) in limestone (石灰岩) cracks in an area of two square 63 (kilometer). This new species is currently listed as 64 (critical) endangered by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. According to the researchers, 65 discovery of the plant species has further enriched diversity of Oreocharis in China, and has positive significance for the biogeography of the Hengduan Mountains in southwest China. 56.have been published/were published 57.investigation 58.known 59.that/which 60.after 61.bird’s 62.growing 63.kilometers 64.critically 65.the 【导语】这是一篇说明文。 故填have been published/were published。 57. 故填that/ which。 60. 故填after。 61. 故填the。 Echo and Me _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Echo and Me It has been 10 years since Echo was founded. I do expect Echo can publish more classic works and have a promising future. These stories can relieve my stress and broaden my horizon. These stories, which can relieve my stress and broaden my horizon, are valuable to me. 【点睛】[高分句型1] In my memory, it is Echo that accompanies me through my whole high school. (运用了强调句) [高分句型2] When feeling depressed, I often choose to enjoy the novel part which includes a lot of imaginative stories. I am the kind of person who is shy and doesn’t express himself much among others. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 The journey continued into the sixth grade. 词汇激活 行为类 ①专注:focus on/concentrate on ②临近:approach/around the corner ③制定:formulate/programme 情绪类 ①震惊:shock/astonishment ②高兴:happiness/delight 【点睛】[高分句型1] With the terminal exam approaching, the classroom was just like a competitive arena, all my classmates preparing hard for the academic battle. (运用了with的复合结构和独立主格结构) [高分句型2] When finally the exam came, I, exceptionally calm and confident, gave it my all.
