They talk about the straw that broke the camel's back, but really it should be the password that wiped out my memory bank.
I was going along the -with instant recall of my bank PIN(密码), my mobile phone number and the date of my cousin's birthday before I downloaded a gas station payment app for its new customer discount. It asked me to create a password. When I typed in “gas 1”, it was rejected for not being complex enough. I tried again: “I Hate Hearless Oil Companies@”. But that was too long and didn’t include “at least one number”. But here is the thing: as soon as 1 added the fresh password into my memory, I instantly forgot all the others. My brain had hit its limit for passwords. I now know nothing.
I had entered some passwords in a notebook. Of course, I didn't write down the actual passwords, in case it fell into the wrong hands. Instead, I masked them in a way that only a family member could figure them out. For example, I combined my bank PIN with our postal code, then added it to a list of phone numbers. It would fool even Albert Einstein.
Maybe we need a system like the one we use to remember people's names. You know, you form an association between a person's characteristics and their name by whispering “Skinny George, Skinny George”in heart after meeting them. The risk is that, upon seeing him, you’ll burst out the phrase. “Skinny George” might not mind, but it’s possible “Boring Betty” will. As for remembering passwords as you change them, you could simply use the first and last letters of your favorite singer's greatest hits, together with the year of their release.
Maybe I’ll try that one out—but only after describing the system in the notebook. Then I'll hide it in a place so secret that I'll never remember where it is.
4. What can we learn about the author from the first two paragraphs?
A. He fell for a marketing trick. B. He was driven mad by passwords.
C. He had a serious memory disorder. D. He was rejected by the gas station.
5. By mentioning Albert Einstein in paragraph 3, the author intends to ______ .
A. show how secure his passwords were
B. challenge the intelligence of scientists
C. prove the uselessness of his passwords
D. promote a more scientific password system
6. What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
A. To encourage readers to use password notebooks.
B. To recommend a password-remembering method.
C. To complain about the trouble caused by passwords.
D To point out the importance of using complex passwords.
7. What is the tone of the text?
A. Inspiring. B. Indifferent. C. Humorous. D. Serious.
B 5. A 6. C 7. C

There are two distinctive types of electric buses making their way along Nanjing Xi Lu, one of Shanghai’s busiest roads. The first is a fleet of blue trolleybuses that serve bus route number 20, a line set up by a British-run transport company in 1928. They use poles to receive electricity from wires overhead and have kept the route running in this way for nearly a century. But while the historic electric buses are a reminder of Europe’s past technological innovation, the new buses traveling alongside them are symbols of China’s contemporary net-zero ambition. These modern electric buses powered by lithium batteries (锂电池), were introduced in Shanghai in 2014. They offer a smoother ride, especially during starts and stops. Widely used across China, these buses are key to the country’s EV transition and are influencing the global shift towards green transportation.
The most recent data available shows that China in 2018 was still the second largest source of carbon dioxide emissions in the global transport sector, responsible for 11%, and behind only the United States, which accounted for 21%. After around two decades of government support, China now boasts the world’s largest market for e-buses, making up more than 95% of global stock. At the end of 2022, China’s Ministry of Transport announced that more than three-quarters (77% or 542, 600) of all urban buses in the country were new energy vehicles. The speed of this transition was remarkable.
So far, however, the Chinese cities with the most successful e-bus introduction — such as Shenzhen, Beijing and Shanghai — all have moderate weather and are relatively flat. To take its e-bus campaign to the next level, China faces challenges. For one thing, it is difficult to bring fleets to cities such as Hong Kong, which — like London — have double-deckers. These two-storeyed vehicles are “very hard” to electrify, because they are heavier, use more energy, and so need bigger batteries, reducing the number of passengers they can carry. Cold weather is a problem, too, as it can make a battery’s charging time longer and its range shorter. The reason China has not achieved 100% electrification for its buses is its northern regions, which have cold winters, says Xue Lulu, a transportation expert at the World Resources Institute China.
8. How does the author describe the two types of electric buses in the first paragraph?
A. By contrasting their historical significance and technological advancements.
B. By highlighting their roles in protecting the environment and lasting use.
C. By focusing merely on their technical details and performance.
D. By explaining their operational challenges and requirements.
9. What do the numbers in paragraph 2 mainly show?
A. The global impact of carbon dioxide emissions.
B. The progress of China in reducing CO2 emissions.
C. The different emission levels of China and the USA.
D. The need for more government support in e-bus market.
10. What factor contributes to the slow adoption of electric buses in China’s northern regions?
A. Poor winter weather conditions. B. Lack of transportation experts.
C. Short charging time of the battery. D. Heavier and bigger bus bodies.
11. Which column is the text most probably taken from?
A. Business B. Culture.
C. Technology D. Earth.
A 9. B 10. A 11. C

To take its e-bus campaign to the next level, China faces challenges.(然而,到目前为止,引进电动公交车最成功的中国城市——如深圳、北京和上海——都是气候温和、地势相对平坦的城市。
D
While scientists have many ideas, they are not certain why humans yawn(打哈欠). Still, there is one thing experts know—yawns seem to be contagious(传染)!
Have you ever caught a yawn from someone else? Most people have. In fact, a person is six times more likely to yawn after seeing someone else do so. Experts have done many studies into why yawns seem to pass from person to person. As a result, they have a few theories(理论) for the reason behind it.
One possible explanation has something to do with social mirroring, which is caused by mirror neurons(镜像神经元) in the brain. These mirror neurons help the brain notice useful behavior of others and then copy it. When one person sees another yawn, his mirror neurons observe the action and consider it to be beneficial. That may cause him to yawn, too.
Another popular theory is that yawns are contagious because of social relationships. Being social creatures, humans form friendships, families and live together in groups. That’s why many people mirror others, such as smiling when another person smiles. Yawning may be just another example of this. In fact, research has shown that one is most likely to catch yawns from another person if the two share a social relationship.
The answer could even be that yawns aren’t truly contagious at all. Instead, people yawn together simply because they’re in the same environment. Experts say many things may cause yawning, including temperature and time of day. Whatever the explanation is, experts do know that contagious yawns aren’t limited to humans. One study found that lions in South Africa also caught each other’s yawns.
12. What kind of behavior may be copied by mirror neurons?
A. Important and attractive. B. Useful and beneficial.
C. Hard to understand. D. Easy to copy.
13. Whose yawns are people most likely to catch according to Paragraph 4?
A. Those who yawn a lot. B. Those who like smiling.
C. Those closely connected with them. D. Those sharing the same interest with them.
14. What might the author continue talking about in the following paragraph?
A Tips on how to avoid yawning in public.
B. A real explanation for contagious yawning.
C. Other examples of animals yawning together.
D. Things that may cause yawning among humans.
15. Which of the following serves as the best title?
A. Why yawns are contagious B. What causes people to yawn
C. Who yawns more than others D. Why humans yawn now and then
B 13. C 14. C 15. A
根据文章第三段“One possible explanation has something to do with social mirroring, which is caused by mirror neurons in the brain. These mirror neurons help the brain notice useful behavior of others and then copy it. When one person sees another yawn, his mirror neurons observe the action and consider it to be beneficial. That may cause him to yawn, too.(一种可能的解释与社交镜像有关,社交镜像是由大脑中的镜像神经元引起的。这些镜像神经元帮助大脑注意到他人的有用行为,然后复制它。当一个人看到另一个人打哈欠时,他的镜像神经元会观察到这个动作,并认为这是有益的。这也可能导致他打哈欠)”可知,镜像神经元可以复制有用和有益的行为。故选B项。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第四段“Another popular theory is that yawns are contagious because of social relationships. Being social creatures, humans form friendships, families and live together in groups. That’s why many people mirror others, such as smiling when another person smiles. Yawning may be just another example of this. In fact, research has shown that one is most likely to catch yawns from another person if the two share a social relationship.(另一个流行的理论是,打哈欠会因为社会关系而传染。作为社会生物,人类建立友谊、家庭,并以群体的形式生活在一起。这就是为什么很多人都会模仿别人,比如当别人微笑时微笑。打哈欠可能只是另一个例子。事实上,研究表明,如果一个人和另一个人有着共同的社会关系,那么他们最有可能被对方打哈欠)”可知,人们最容易被那些与他们关系密切的人的哈欠传染。故选C项。
【14题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“Experts say many things may cause yawning, including temperature and time of day. Whatever the explanation is, experts do know that contagious yawns aren’t limited to humans. One study found that lions in South Africa also caught each other’s yawns.(专家表示,许多因素可能会导致打哈欠,包括温度和一天中的时间。无论解释是什么,专家们都知道传染性哈欠并不局限于人类。一项研究发现,南非的狮子也会互相打哈欠)”可推知,在接下来的段落中,作者可能会继续谈论其他动物一起打哈欠的例子。故选C项。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。结合全文及文章第一段“While scientists have many ideas, they are not certain why humans yawn. Still, there is one thing experts know—yawns seem to be contagious!(虽然科学家们有很多想法,但他们不确定人类为什么会打哈欠。尽管如此,专家们还是知道一件事——打哈欠似乎会传染!)”可知,文章主要介绍了一些关于打哈欠会传染的理论,故A项“为什么打哈欠会传染”适合作为文章的标题。故选A项。
When something goes wrong, do you tend to bounce back or fall apart? Here are some strategics to help you manage a personal setback (挫折) and get back on track toward achieving your goal.
● Realize it’s normal. Less than 20 percent of people successfully achieve their goal the first time around. It’s normal and expected for setbacks to occur. ___16___ Knowing this, it’s important to anticipate that the main task will be how to effectively manage the setback when it arises.
● Don’t deny it. Sometimes it’s hard to recognize a setback. The problem can be staring you right in the face, but you may deny there’s any cause for alarm. ___17___ This inability to acknowledge the problem doesn’t mean you’re stupid. It’s just that denial can cloud your awareness of the issue. It’s important to be receptive to the honest feedback.
___18___Stop and consider carefully what went wrong. The most common causes of a setback are personal worries, overconfidence, and poor coping skills. Take a look at any factor that may have contributed to the setback: where you were, who you were with, what you were thinking and feeling.
● Learn from it. Learn from your analysis of the setback, and adjust your plan to try to prevent similar things from happening the next time. Each time you fine-tune your plan and put it into action again, you actually improve your odds of eventual success. ___19___
Remind yourself that your setback is a slip instead of a fall. ___20___ After adjusting, you can still make progress toward success again.
A. Don’t take it seriously.
B. Analyze what happened.
C. You haven’t lost all of the knowledge, skills, and support.
D. In other words, it’s not whether a challenge will happen, but it’s when.
E. This is because you learn from each misstep to make your plan more effective.
F. Friends or family will voice their concerns, but you still may not be able to accept it.
G. You might even write about past experiences in a journal to guide your future behavior.
D 17. F 18. B 19. E 20. C
根据前文“Less than 20 percent of people successfully achieve their goal the first time around. It’s normal and expected for setbacks to occur.(只有不到20%的人第一次就成功实现了自己的目标。出现挫折是正常的,也是意料之中的。)”可知,此处是指挫折大概率是会发生的,只是早晚的区别,所以选项D“换句话说,挑战是否会发生并不重要,重要的是何时发生。”切合文意。故选D。
【17题详解】
根据前文“Sometimes it’s hard to recognize a setback. The problem can be staring you right in the face, but you may deny there’s any cause for alarm.(有时候很难察觉到挫折。问题可能就在你眼前,但你可能会否认有任何惊慌的理由。)”可知,此处是指即使朋友或家人提醒你也可能无法承认问题的存在,所以选项F“朋友或家人会表达他们的担忧,但你可能仍然无法接受。”切合文意。故选F。
【18题详解】
根据后文“Stop and consider carefully what went wrong.(停下来仔细想想哪里出了问题。)”
根据前文“Learn from it. Learn from your analysis of the setback, and adjust your plan to try to prevent similar things from happening the next time. Each time you fine-tune your plan and put it into action again, you actually improve your odds of eventual success.(从中吸取教训。从你对挫折的分析中学习,调整你的计划,尽量防止类似的事情再次发生。每次你调整你的计划并再次付诸行动,你实际上提高了最终成功的几率。)”可知,此处是指从挫折中吸取的教训会让你的计划更高效,所以选项E“这是因为你从每一个错误中学习,使你的计划更有效。”切合文意。故选E。
【20题详解】
根据前文“Remind yourself that your setback is a slip instead of a fall.(提醒自己,你的挫折是一次滑倒,而不是跌倒。)”和后文“After adjusting, you can still make progress toward success again.(调整之后,你仍然可以再次向成功迈进。)”

47. Superman Learns How to Ride
It was the summer of 1967, and the moment was nearing when I would cast off my training wheels and learn to ride a bike.
As an adventurous little boy, I sure put my overactive imagination to good use. I would pretend to be the bookish reporter, Clark Kent. Then, at the first sign of something wrong, I disappeared and emerged moments later with a red towel hanging from the collar of my dirty blue T-shirt and an ironed-on letter “S” on my chest.
“This is a job for Superman!” I would cry out as I flew to meet imaginary dangers that threatened the world.
“Hey, Superman, when are you going to learn to ride a bike?” the neighborhood kids would taunt as they rolled past. “The Man of Steel still uses training wheels!” they laughed.
As I watched them ride away, I realized I was being left behind. To claim my place among their ranks, I needed to cast off my training wheels and learn to ride with the big kids. I turned to my father for help.
“Okay, I’m going to let go, and you just remember to balance,” Dad advised patiently on my tenth try. Suddenly I was riding! I dared to smile as my father’s shouts of encouragement faded into the background. My smile widened. Victory was mine.
You are going to fall. The thought was at first a whisper and then grew louder and more convincing until I believed it must be true. After all, I had always fallen before. Why should this time be any different? Fear seized me, and my confidence weakened and I couldn’t grasp the handlebars tightly. Sure enough, I fell to the grass.
“You almost had it,” Dad said, catching his breath. “You are seized with a sense of fear so you fell.”
“I quit,” I said angrily, trying to fight back the tears of frustration. “I don’t want to learn to ride.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1: However, on thinking of Superman, I decided to behave like a real hero.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: I gripped the handlebars with strong determination.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
However, on thinking of Superman, I decided to behave like a real hero. Holding back tears, I asked my dad to tell me the reason why I fell. I observed my dad and other kids’ performance of riding bikes and kept every movement in mind. But most importantly, I must overcome the sense of fright when riding, so I read more stories of Superman and gradually knew that bravery could be learned through constant practice. On a sunny day, having much practice and enough courage, I begged my dad to accompany me to have a try.
I gripped the handlebars with strong determination. I took a deep breath and began to pedal. With my Superman cape flapping, I rounded the front of our house at full speed. “Look, Dad! I’m riding!” I shouted. He smiled and waved as I took a turn up the dirt road. Superman had beaten an enemy called “fear” and once again the world was as a safer, happier place.

D. To point out the importance of using complex passwords.
7. What is the tone of the text?
A. Inspiring. B. Indifferent. C. Humorous. D. Serious.

C. Short charging time of the battery. D. Heavier and bigger bus bodies.
11. Which column is the text most probably taken from?
A Business B. Culture.

A. Tips on how to avoid yawning in public.
