Step 2 Work on Activity 1 1.Ask students to listen to the school news report and choose the best title. 2.Check the answer. Step 3 Phonetics in use 1.Explain how to pronounce /iː/,/ɪ/,/i/ to students.Play related pronunciation videos for students to watch and learn. 2.Have students read related words and correct their pronunciation. Step 4 Work on Activity 2 1.Have students listen to the recording again and complete the timeline. 2.Check the answers. 3.Have students learn about the listening skills in Learning to learn.Teach students how to listen for the main idea of a passage,especially a news report. 4.Guide students to finish the extra listening exercises by using the listening skill. 5.Share the answers and check. Step 5 Work on Activity 3 1.Have students listen to the interview and complete the interviewer’s notes. 2.Have students listen again and check the answers. 3.Have students talk about how Hu Nianzu expresses cause and effect. 4.Ask students to read and talk about the tips given in Learning to learn.Then explain them for students. 5.Guide students to express cause and effect using expressions like because,so and as a result.
