When I was a kid, I was told that all these books are precious things— they must never be folded, bent, or broken. Any dirty marks or notes on a book are banned and our reading should always be a clean activity since it’s what separates us from the beasts. Preservation of all texts was the most important thing in the world. Years later, when I began reading everything I could in my early teens, I tiptoed into the Library one day and discovered, to my horror, that all the books were still extremely new. It was row after row, shelf after shelf. Something clicked and I knew I had found a horrible secret about my family: they had bought these books to be displayed like jewellery, rather than to be read. In that moment I knew that all those silly rules around reading and books were dead wrong and that there was nothing sadder in this world than an unused book— clean, without any trace of the reader at all. Now here’s the secret: good reading is messy reading. If I want the kind of novel that gets deep into my bones, the sort of non-fiction mystery that stays with me years after the fact, then I must bring sticky notes (便利贴) and let my books get scuffed (磨损) along the way. I should always walk away from a book with visible progress of my reading. After years of treating my books as if they ought to be preserved in a museum, I now believe that you should honour the books by breaking them. Read them all so messily! Truly read the books, anytime and anywhere, no matter how much we f old them, bend them, or tear them! Throw them into your backpack or leave them open by the side of your bed. Don’t worry about stains or torn edges after years of reading. That is what a book is. That is what a book is for. 4. Where did the author’s family store their books? A. In the study. B. In the dining room. C. In the bedroom. D. In the living room. 5. What does the author imply about his family’s book collection? A. It was piled in a mess. B. It was mainly for decoration. C. It was large and various. D. It was kept for a good price. 6. What does the underlined part “Something clicked” mean? A. I clicked the mouse. B. I suddenly felt puzzled. C. Something made a sound. D. Something occurred to me. 7. Which opinion may the author agree on? A. Good books are valuable jewelry. B. Books are the ladder of human progress. C. Read thousands of books regardless of their state. D. Protect books as they’ re the source of knowledge. B 5. B 6. D 7. 根据第一段“My family had a room that we called the Library, but even back then I knew it was just our dining room with a few bookshelves around a small table.(我们家有一个房间,我们称之为图书馆,但即使在那时,我也知道那只是我们的餐厅,在一张小桌子周围放着几个书架)”可知,作者的家人把书存放在餐厅。 根据第二段“I knew I had found a horrible secret about my family: they had bought these books to be displayed like jewellery, rather than to be read.(我知道我发现了一个关于我家人的可怕秘密:他们买这些书是为了像珠宝一样陈列,而不是为了阅读)”可知,作者家的藏书主要是用来装饰的。 根据划线词上文“Years later, when I began reading everything I could in my early teens, I tiptoed into the Library one day and discovered, to my horror, that all the books were still extremely new. It was row after row, shelf after shelf.(多年以后,在我十几岁时候,我开始读所有我能读的书。有一天,我蹑手蹑脚地走进图书馆,惊恐地发现,所有的书都还是全新的。一排接一排,一架接一架)”以及划线词后文“I knew I had found a horrible secret about my family: they had bought these books to be displayed like jewellery, rather than to be read.(我知道我发现了一个关于我家人的可怕秘密:他们买这些书是为了像珠宝一样陈列,而不是为了阅读)”可知,作者发现所有的书是全新的,于是突然明白了家里的书是作为装饰品,而不是为了阅读。 根据最后一段“After years of treating my books as if they ought to be preserved in a museum, I now believe that you should honour the books by breaking them. Read them all so messily! Truly read the books, anytime and anywhere, no matter how much we f old them, bend them, or tear them! Throw them into your backpack or leave them open by the side of your bed. Don’t worry about stains or torn edges after years of reading. That is what a book is. That is what a book is for.(多年来,我一直把我的书当作应该保存在博物馆里的东西来对待,现在我认为,你应该打破它们,以示对这些书的尊重。把它们统统都读一遍!真正地阅读书籍,无论何时何地,无论我们如何将它们折叠、弯曲或撕裂!把它们扔进背包里,或者把它们打开放在床边。不用担心经年累月的阅读会留下污渍或破损的边缘。这就是一本书。这就是书的作用)”可知,作者认为读成千上万的书,不管它们的状态如何。故选C。 C Theatre has a culture of its own and is a powerful medium for exposing problems. Plays are sometimes attempting to spread awareness about problems like racism, sexism, etc. These plays help our society better function because they cause individuals to realize what is happening and take action. It builds a passion in people since they realize what is really important to them and that they have the power to make a change. The main reason people go to theatre or even attend a show is to discover themselves. This means they want to come to a self-understanding and fulfilment. Human nature leads us to be original and theatre is the perfect outlet for people to be original and to understand themselves. For many people, theatre also gives a purpose for life. Human beings naturally want to express themselves, and theatre is the most expressive art form. “This is why theatre is important: because it presents a reflective vision of a life that is vastly more fascinating than the one in which we’re stuck.” — Lemony Snicket. Live theatre is as significant today as it was millennia (数千年) ago when our distant ancestors would gather around the fire to hear stories. Today we still gather in groups to hear stories being told, listen to music and put our demons in perspective. As a species, we have always turned to theatrical presentations to explore the unknown and explain our fears and concerns in an entertaining way. Theatre can also simply entertain, but there are few light “entertainments” which don’t include an underlying message. Today we are surrounded by other options for entertainment, like film, video, and online streaming. But theatre is a very different experience. While cinema is prerecorded, perfected by thousand shots of the same scene and editing effects, one might say what you see in theatre is raw, more organic. You surely can’t make Avengers: Endgame the same in a live event. But, the connection of the actor to the audience that makes Iago’s speech, or Hamlet’s speech what it is, is just not the same on film. 8. What can theatre bring to society? A. Solutions of racial issues. B. Development of media. C. Fulfilment of individuals. D. Exposure of social problems. 9. Why did the author quote the words from Lemony Snicket? A. To show the purpose of life. B. To express the nature of humans. C. To strengthen the function of theatre. D. To present a different point of view. 10. What can we know from the last paragraph? A. People tend to watch films than plays. B. Cinema and theatre have a lot in common. C. Films feature an original way of art. D. Theatres bring people live experience. 11. What does the passage mainly talk about? A. The types of theatre. B. The power of theatre. C. The challenges of theatre. D. The evolution of theatre. D 9. C 10. D 11. 根据文章第一段“Plays are sometimes attempting to spread awareness about problems like racism, sexism, etc.”(戏剧有时试图传播对种族主义、性别歧视等问题的认识。) 根据文章第三段“For many people, theatre also gives a purpose for life. Human beings naturally want to express themselves, and theatre is the most expressive art form. “This is why theatre is important: because it presents a reflective vision of a life that is vastly more fascinating than the one in which we’re stuck.” — Lemony Snicket.”(对许多人来说,戏剧也给了他们生活的目标。人类自然想要表达自己,而戏剧是最具表现力的艺术形式。“这就是为什么戏剧很重要:因为它展示了一种对生活的反思,这种生活比我们陷入困境的生活要迷人得多。——雷蒙·斯尼奇。)可知,作者引用Lemony Snicket的话是为了强调戏剧的功能。故选C。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“While cinema is prerecorded, perfected by thousand shots of the same scene and editing effects, one might say what you see in theatre is raw, more organic.”(虽然电影是预先录制的,由同一场景的数千个镜头和编辑效果完善,但有人可能会说,你在剧院看到的是原始的,是现场存在的。)可知,戏剧带给人们的是现场体验。故选D。 【11题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文尤其是根据第一段“These plays help our society better function because they cause individuals to realize what is happening and take action. It builds a passion in people since they realize what is really important to them and that they have the power to make a change.”(这些戏剧有助于我们的社会更好地运作,因为它们使个人意识到正在发生的事情并采取行动。它能激发人们的热情,因为他们意识到什么对他们来说是真正重要的,他们有能力做出改变。)可知,短文主要是关于戏剧的力量。故选B。 D Orangutans (红毛猩猩) are known for an impressive skill of engineering: They carefully weave an intricate nest from branches in the forest canopy (树冠) daily for cozy nights and cool midday naps. Some nests, particularly those made by older and more experienced orangutans, have pillows, blankets, and sometimes even a roof made by broad leaves — and all must be well protected and strong enough to hold 100-plus pounds of sleeping gorilla. Now a study published in Animal Behavior reveals that young orangutans perfectly complete this vital task in seven years. “The fact that it takes them so long to acquire this skill shows us that it’s much more complex than we realized before,” says the study’s lead author Andrea Permana, a primatologist (灵长类动物学家) at the University of Warwick in England. To understand this behavior, researchers followed 45 orangutans at Indonesia’s Gunung Leuser National Park for 13 years. Permana found that orangutans begin to show interest in nest building as young as six months. These young orangutans practise the task daily during their youth, watching their mothers to learn building techniques. As they get older, their strength and skillfulness improve, letting them more successfully make branches into the structure. Researchers have seen orangutans build their first functional night nests at three years old, but they still tend to sleep alongside their mothers until about age seven. These nests offer more than just cover from tigers and other predators; sleep itself is a crucial resource as well. All great apes (类人猿) construct nests to some degree, and studies show that orangutans sleep deeper and longer than non-nest-building primates. This sound sleep may tell us how nests played a part in our own ancestors’ brain evolution because human ancestors and orangutan ancestors both developed nest building. Permana says, “The more rested you are, then you can be more innovative. Maybe you’re more curious, your memory is better, and you can solve problems better. The knock-on effects of that on the success of our ancestors is pretty undoubtable.” 12. What can we know about the nests built by more experienced orangutans? A. They do not have roofs. B. They are made of broad leaves. C. They are relatively well-equipped. D. They can hold more than 100 gorillas. 13. What can we learn about young orangutans? A. They are required to build nests. B. They begin building nests at six months. C. They imitate their moms to build nests. D. They sleep with their moms until seven. 14. What can be inferred from Permana’s words? A. Ancestors benefit a lot from sleeping well. B. Humans can be curious about nest building. C. Innovation can make people solve problems. D. People consider nest building as a complex skill. 15. What can be the best title for the passage? A. Great Apes: Ancestor of Nest Building. B. Improved Sleep: Benefit of Nest Building. C. Smart Orangutans: Master of Nest Building. D. Technical Progress: Evolution of Nest Building. 【答案】12. C 13. C 14. A 15. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了红毛猩猩拥有精湛的筑窝技能,一项研究发现,小猩猩需要长达七年时间才能熟练掌握这项技能,表明其复杂性超出以往认知。红毛猩猩所筑的窝不仅提供安全避难所,还可能提高其睡眠质量,进而促进大脑的进化。 【12题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“Some nests, particularly those made by older and more experienced orangutans, have pillows, blankets, and sometimes even a roof made by broad leaves — and all must be well protected and strong enough to hold 100-plus pounds of sleeping gorilla. (有些窝,特别是那些年龄较大、经验丰富的猩猩筑巢的窝,有枕头、毯子,有时甚至有一个由宽大的树叶做成的屋顶——所有这些都必须得到很好的保护,并且足够坚固,可以容纳100多磅的熟睡的大猩猩)”可知,由经验丰富的猩猩建造的窝相对来说装备地更完善。故选C项。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“Permana found that orangutans begin to show interest in nest building as young as six months. These young orangutans practise the task daily during their youth, watching their mothers to learn building techniques. (Permana发现,猩猩在六个月大的时候就开始对筑窝表现出兴趣。这些小猩猩在幼年时每天都练习这项任务,看着它们的妈妈学习建造技术)”可知,小猩猩会模仿妈妈筑窝。故选C项。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中Permana所说的话“The more rested you are, then you can be more innovative. Maybe you’re more curious, your memory is better, and you can solve problems better. The knock-on effects of that on the success of our ancestors is pretty undoubtable. (你休息得越多,你就会更有创造力。也许你更好奇,你的记忆力更好,你能更好地解决问题。这对我们祖先的成功产生了连锁反应,这是毋庸置疑的)”可知,良好的休息对我们的祖先起到了连锁反应,促成了其成功。由此推知,我们的祖先从良好的睡眠中获益良多。故选A项。 【15题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段“Orangutans (红毛猩猩) are known for an impressive skill of engineering: They carefully weave an intricate nest from branches in the forest canopy (树冠) daily for cozy nights and cool midday naps. How to Make Better Decisions Having too many choices can cause anxiety, but you can overcome decidophobia (决策恐惧). ___16___. Shall I shan’t I? When you’ re feeling overwhelmed (不知所措) with possibilities, it’s often easier to do nothing. That’s not a long-term solution, so try to focus on the really important issues and avoid sweating the small stuff. Be organized in your daily life — decide what you’re going to wear the night before, eat the same breakfast every day, and know when you’re going to do certain chores. That cuts down the number of options you have to weigh at any one time. Make it manageable. Follow a series of steps. First, write down the advantages and disadvantages of different options. ___17___. Consider how you feel about them, instead. Abandon all but the three or four most realistic courses of action. Next, gather information that will help with the decision, then seek advice from just a few people. ___18___. Set deadlines. To avoid decision paralysis (决策无能), set yourself a firm but realistic date by which you need to have picked your preferred option. ___19___. Sleep on it. When you think you’ve come to the right conclusion, take a holiday or even just a day to think about something different before you actually commit. Trust yourself. ___20___. To give yourself confidence, list the decisions you’ve made in the past that have worked out well and consider whether choices you consider bad were really that disastrous. A. Cut down your decisions B. Make all possible decisions C. This will also prevent you from being in a dilemma D. Making a decision is happy, but you’re the one who is suitable E. Don’t simply think about the number of points for and against F. It’s often helpful if they’re independent, rather than friends or family G. Making a decision is scary, but you’re the one who knows yourself best 【答案】16. A 17. E 18. F 19. C 20. G 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了克服“决定恐惧症”,做出更好的选择的具体方法。 【16题详解】 空处位于段首,是段落主旨句,需统领段落内容,且需和其他段首句一样使用祈使句的形式。根据后文“That’s not a long-term solution, so try to focus on the really important issues and avoid sweating the small stuff. (这不是一个长期的解决方案,所以试着把注意力集中在真正重要的问题上,避免为小事而烦恼。)”和“That cuts down the number of options you have to weigh at any one time. (这减少了你在任何时候必须权衡的选项数量。)”可知,本段主要建议避免为小事烦恼,减少需要做决定的数量,因此A项“Cut down your decisions (减少你的决定)”符合语境,契合段落内容,其中的Cut down在后文有同词复现。故选A。 【17题详解】 前文“First, write down the advantages and disadvantages of different options. (首先,写下不同选择的优缺点。)”提到第一步是写下选择的优缺点,后文“Consider how you feel about them, instead. (相反,考虑一下你对它们的感觉。)”提出替代性的做法是考虑自身的感觉,因此E项“Don’t simply think about the number of points for and against (不要简单地考虑支持和反对的点数)”符合语境,提醒避免仅关注优缺点的数量,承上启下。故选E。 【18题详解】 前文“Next, gather information that will help with the decision, then seek advice from just a few people. (接下来,收集有助于做决定的信息,然后向几个人寻求建议。)”建议向人寻求做决定的建议,因此F项“It’s often helpful if they’re independent, rather than friends or family (如果他们是独立的,而不是朋友或家人,这通常会很有帮助)”符合语境,提到求助对象最好是独立的,承接前文,其中的they指代前文的just a few people。故选F。 【19题详解】 前文“To avoid decision paralysis (决策无能), set yourself a firm but realistic date by which you need to have picked your preferred option. (为了避免决策无能,给自己设定一个确切而现实的日期,你需要在这个日期之前选择你最喜欢的选项。)”建议设定切实的决策日期,因此C项“This will also prevent you from being in a dilemma (这也会防止你陷入两难境地)”符合语境,进一步指出这样做的好处,承接前文。故选C。 【20题详解】 前文“Trust yourself. (相信自己。)”强调对自己的信任,因此G项“Making a decision is scary, but you’re the one who knows yourself best (做决定很可怕,但你是最了解自己的人)”符合语境,解释相信自己的原因,承接前文。故选G。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 I first picked up a racquet(球拍) and ball when I was four. Jim Joyce, my first tennis coach, was teaching me to play and think ___21___. One day, I started making ___22___ when I hit. He asked me if I was sick, and I said no. “I heard it would give me more power,” I ___23___ shyly. “Asho, that’s absolutely ___24___,” he replied. “You’re not doing any better with it. You’ re concentrating on grunting (发出哼声) instead of ___25___. If you grunt again, I’m walking off this court.” Jim also found ways to get me into trouble. I played my first competition when I was six. I’d been ___26___ for almost two years, and I was certain I was going to win. But Jim made me ___27___. There aren’t many lessons to be learned from an easy win. He intentionally found an ___28___ girl to play me clean off the court. This philosophy extended to everything I did. I remember climbing out of my age group ___29___ when I was 11 against a 14- year- old girl. But whenever my dad put two fingers to his lips and did whistle, Max would immediately rush to him with his tail wagging (摇摆). Such a harmonious life continued until we had to go abroad to find a treatment for my mom’s serious disease. To take better care of my mom, we had no choice but to leave Max at home. And Sandy, my dad’s friend, was to be Max’s guardian (监护人) while we were overseas. Six weeks after our departure, however, my dad received a call from Sandy saying that Max had run away. His face got pale as he heard this news. Sandy had advertised constantly on ABC radio and other newspapers. Despite many “sightings”, the dog was never found. But our family thought that my dad held a secret hope that Max was still alive. Eight months later, we returned and my dad immediately began to search for Max. One day, he had a call from 375 kilometres away. An elderly lady living on her own in the suburb of the town was putting food out “for a very old yellow dog”. In the night the food disappeared. This had been going on for weeks. As she told on the telephone, it was “just glimpses of a yellow dog in the shadows” of her disused tennis court. That was enough for us to set off in my dad’s low-slung Jensen car. It was hardly the right vehicle for the rough roads we travelled that day. Five and a half hours later, we found the tennis court. Sadly, the elderly lady told my dad that the dog hadn’t been around today yet for the food was still there. Hearing that, Dad looked around the tennis court. It had long been deserted and overgrown with weeds. But he noticed a path hidden in the bush. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式作答。 Without hesitation Dad then led me to search around for Max. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Back to the court in vain, Dad finally did his special whistle. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Without hesitation, Dad then led me to search around for Max. Dad rushed straight to the path and I followed him. We called out Max’s name again and again as we walked, eager to find out his trace. Dad would even dig his hands through every bush to double-check whether Max was there. When we reached the end of the path, we only found a humble dog shelter with some bones next to it. However, we never saw any sign of Max. Back to the court in vain, Dad finally did his special whistle. Suddenly there was a rustling in the bush. Max leaped over the tennis court fence with great force and certainty. He flew into my dad’s arms. Max kept licking my dad’s face and making choking noises. Although he smelt dreadful, my dad’s eyes shone. We wrapped him in an old blanket and I held him on my lap. He never once took his eyes off my dad as we drove home. We decided never to leave him anywhere alone again. 词汇激活 行为类 ①冲:rush/run/dash ②跟随:follow/go after ③喊:call out/shout out/cry out ④到达:reach/get to ⑤包,裹:wrap/cover 情绪类 ①急切的:eager/anxious ②确信:certainty/confidence 【点睛】[高分句型1] Dad would even dig his hands through every bush to double-check whether Max was there. B My family had a room that we called the Library, but even back then I knew it was just our dining room with a few bookshelves around a small table. C It was large and various. D. It was kept for a good price. 6. What does the underlined part “Something clicked” mean? A. I clicked the mouse. B. I suddenly felt puzzled. C. Something made a sound. D. Something occurred to me. 7 Which opinion may the author agree on? A. Good books are valuable jewelry. B. Books are the ladder of human progress. C. Read thousands of books regardless of their state. D. Protect books as they’ re the source of knowledge. C Theatre has a culture of its own and is a powerful medium for exposing problems. C Fulfilment of individuals. D. Exposure of social problems. 9. Why did the author quote the words from Lemony Snicket? A. To show the purpose of life. B. To express the nature of humans. C. To strengthen the function of theatre. D. To present a different point of view. 10. What can we know from the last paragraph? A. D Orangutans (红毛猩猩) are known for an impressive skill of engineering: They carefully weave an intricate nest from branches in the forest canopy (树冠) daily for cozy nights and cool midday naps. 13 What can we learn about young orangutans? 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Make Better Decisions Having too many choices can cause anxiety, but you can overcome decidophobia (决策恐惧). ___16___. Shall I, shan’t I? This cute yellow dog used to play with me on the front verandah (走廊). 请按如下格式作答。 Without hesitation, Dad then led me to search around for Max. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Back to the court in vain, Dad finally did his special whistle. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 1—5 CAACB 6—10 CACBC 11—15 ACBBA 16—20 ACBBA 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
