阅读理解 " (2023·陕西西安新城区二模) Dr Ofri􀆳s new book, Singular Intimacies: Becoming a Doctor at Bellevue, recounts her experiences as a doctor at New York􀆳s Bellevue Hospital. NPR􀆳s Melissa Block, host of All Things Considered, recently spent a day at the hospital to get a sense of her world, through her relationships with her patients. Dr Danielle Ofri is an attending physician in internal medicine at Bellevue. For her, poetry and literature are as much a part of the job as X-rays and pills. She􀆳s written about her experiences there in the book, Singular Intimacies: Becoming a Doctor at Bellevue. It􀆳s a collection of essays about learning to listen to the narrative of her patients. Dr Ofri tries to keep an ear turned to the stories behind her patients􀆳 medical complaints. Answers to questions about family or jobs may not help with medical diagnosis, but conversations like these can help gain a patient􀆳s trust, and they help the doctor, too. “ At night, I recall our conversations, and wonder what else I could do for them. It makes me curious about them,” Dr Ofri says, “so when I go back the next day, I􀆳m more connected with them. And I think a connection has healing powers. Most of the patients, brighten, when they talk about themselves and I think they actually feel better. ” A good part of Dr Ofri􀆳s day is also spent overseeing the work of new doctors. The days are filled with jargon ( 行 业 术 语 ) and medical shorthand. But Dr Ofri also tries to inject another kind of language into the training—poetry. She carves out five minutes or so each day to gather with her interns and read a poem. She calls it her “ literary rounds” . Through these brief pauses in the day, she says she􀆳s giving her students “ a chance to let the other part of their brain flower a little bit” . “ I􀆳m just hoping the experience of doing that is helpful, and also trains my students to listen more carefully to patients,” she said. 1. Why did Melissa Block recently go to Bellevue Hospital? A. To make friends with Dr Ofri. B. To receive medical treatment. C. To know about Dr Ofri􀆳s experiences. D. To collect essays on treatment. 2. What does the third paragraph mainly focus on? A. The stories behind illnesses. B. The effect of family and jobs. C. The benefits of listening to patients. D. The healing powers of conversations. 3. What does the underlined word “ inject ” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Cut. B. Change. C. Accept. D. Add. 4. Why does Dr Ofri hold “ literary rounds” for new doctors? A. To encourage them to write books. B. To improve their humanistic quality. C. To prepare an entire career for them. D. To make their brain grow and flower. # (2023·广东普通高中二模) Could the next Ernest Hemingway or Jane Austen be a well-engineered AI software program? It􀆳s a question becoming increasingly pressing as machine language-learning software continues to evolve. 3 Much of this is just nerves. Today􀆳s AI creative writing programs are not yet at a stage of development where they pose a serious threat to Colleen Hoover or Charles Dickens. But while attention continues to focus on the possibility of a blanket takeover of human literature by AI, far less consideration has been given to the prospect of AI co-working with humans. Earlier this month, American sci-fi writer Ken Liu, who had been awarded Hugo and Nebula to his name, joined 12 other professional authors for a writing workshop on Google􀆳s Wordcraft. This AI tool, a language generating model, is not yet publicly available but is advertised as an AI- powered writing assistant that can, when given the right instruction from the writer, provide helpful descriptions, create lists of objects or emotional states, and even brainstorm ideas. The writers at the workshop, however, emerged with mixed reports. “ Wordcraft is too sensible. Wow!” Robin Sloan wrote. “ But ‘ sensible ’ is another word for predictable, overused and boring. My intention here is to produce something unexpected. ” I􀆳m unconvinced that writers awarded the Nobel Prize have much to fear from AI. Their work, and that of countless other novelists, short story writers, dramatists and poets, is too particular, too beautifully unique. Even if a model learned what they had done in the past, it would not be able to predict where their creativity might take them in the future. But for authors who write following a pattern, AI might step in, first as assistants before some day to authorship. Production-line novels are nothing new. In the 1970s, Barbara Cartland, who wrote more than 723 books in her lifetime, many of which are romance bestsellers, would read her novels for her secretary to type up at the remarkable rate of roughly seven chapters a week. But already machine has replaced the secretary􀆳s role. Perhaps creative writing software isn􀆳t that far from replacing the Mrs Cartlands of today. 5. Which aspect of AI calls for more attention? A. Its damage to our nerves. B. Its progress in literary studies. C. Its cooperation with humans. D. Its influence on human literature. 6. What can we learn about Wordcraft from the text? A. It generates novels automatically. B. It outperforms professional writers. C. Its works receive praises from the public. D. Its works bear similarity to existing ones. 7. What can writers do to avoid the threat from AI? A. Increase writing speed. B. Use diverse resources. C. Produce creative works. D. Follow the latest patterns. 8. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Will AI Replace Human Writers? B. AI Warns Mrs Cartlands of Today C. Is Writing Running into a New Era? D. Wordcraft Lies at the Center of Debate Ⅱ. 阅读七选五 (2023·广西高中毕业班第三次联合调研) When high school students spend time memorizing and reciting a poem, they develop confidence by engaging deeply with language. Here are my five Cs—things I􀆳ve observed from several years of teaching students through Poetry Out Loud, from selecting a poem to performing at the state competition. Choice. 1 Students learn how to search for poems, and they have complete discretion (判 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 -583- hh3+ 断力) over the poem they will perform. Students often gravitate ( 被吸引) to poems that fit their reading level and also match a personal interest or philosophy, which is great. But there are also lots of unexpected mismatches that end up stretching students􀆳 skills in ways a teacher could not work out. Concrete learning task. Learning just one poem well gives students a finite and concentrated experience with language. 2 I􀆳ve seen students with all manner of challenges get up and do something they thought was impossible, in large part because it involves a single, repeated exercise. Continuing learning. Students learn a poem that will likely stay with them for years, if not forever. Poems contain mysteries and complexities that reveal themselves slowly—and sometimes even suddenly—over time. 3 Confidence. Recitation is the perfect introduction to public speaking skills. All students need to be able to speak effectively in front of others. 4 Students learn elements of physical presence, voice, speed, volume, and tone without having to present their own work, which is more frightening for most students. 5 Students are not asked to memorize much anymore, yet many of them take pleasure in the act of repetition and remembering. They like testing themselves and realizing that they can in fact recall lines. For English language learners, many autistic students, and other exceptional learners, reciting poetry is an especially powerful way to understand language and build confidence. For our kids who need small victories, mastering one poem is a welcome relief. A. Practice memorizing poems. B. Challenging memory and recall. C. This is the first step of the exercise. D. Performing a poem is a bit like acting. E. And every student can learn one poem. F. Therefore, it is a lasting course to learn poems. G. As a result, it is beneficial for students to learn poems. This year the Li family was traveling from their home in Virginia to Grandma and Grandpa Li􀆳s house in Florida. Nine-year-old Zara Li had been excited about the trip. But she found out that their beloved dog, Tucker, had to stay at a doghouse. Tucker was her best friend in the entire world. On the way to Florida, she already missed it. In the car seat next to her, Zara􀆳s little sister, Piper, kicked her feet and sang the alphabet song. Suddenly, Piper reached over and grabbed the dog toy off Zara􀆳s lap. “Quit it, Piper!” Zara cried. She tried to pull it back, but Piper held on tight. All of a sudden, cloud of white stuffing flew in the air with a ripping sound. “ You are such a baby!” she screamed, causing Piper to burst into tears. “ Zara,” Mom sighed, “ Piper didn􀆳t ruin Tucker􀆳s toy on purpose. She􀆳s only four years old. You􀆳re the big sister, so be nice. ” Zara bit her lip and stared out of the window. She was always getting into trouble for not being nice enough to Piper. Her parents didn􀆳t get that Piper was wrong either. Sometimes Zara pretended that she didn􀆳t have a sister at all. This was turning into the worst Thanksgiving ever. The way to Grandma and Grandpa􀆳s house was dark and stormy. Suddenly, Dad pulled the car over. “ Uh-oh! It looks like we􀆳re not going anywhere,” Mom announced. Zara saw a giant oak tree completely blocking the road. “The wind must have knocked it down,” declared Dad. “Grandma and Grandpa􀆳s house is only two blocks away,” Mom replied. “ We can walk the rest of the way. A little rain never hurt anyone. ” They all climbed out of the car. Wind and rain whipped Zara􀆳s hair into her face. It was hard to keep her eyes open against the wind. “ You􀆳d better hold on to my hand, Piper,” Zara cautioned, but Piper didn􀆳t respond. Zara looked behind her, but Piper wasn􀆳t there. She wasn􀆳t with Mom or Dad, either. “Mom! Dad! Where􀆳s Piper?” Zara shouted in panic. “ Piper! Piper!” everyone called. The wind seemed to blow their voices away. Then Zara heard a strange sound coming from the bushes nearby. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为 150 左右; 2. 请按如下格式作答。 She pushed through the branches of the bushes. 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 􀪋 -585- hh3+ Finally, they arrived at Grandma and Grandpa􀆳s house with the tiny, injured puppy. # Ⅰ. Alice and her family went on a camping trip along the seaside. Upon arrival, Dad called for a meeting. He announced, “There are lots of jobs to be done. It􀆳s no fun on holiday if Mum and I do all the work, so I come up with this pocket money chart. In this way, everyone has to do something, and you must do your own job every day! If you do your jobs well, you get some extra pocket money!” Looking at the chart, which had their names on it next to a list of jobs, the kids frowned (皱 眉) at the idea. Unwillingly, they began to do their jobs. Alice washed up the dishes. Mike, the youngest brother, dried the dishes. Jeff, Alice􀆳s twin brother, took their dog for a walk. The next day they went to the beach. After playing some time in the sea, they went to look for shells along the beach. Suddenly, Alice found a strange-looking rock. She picked it up and showed it to Dad. “You􀆳ve found a fossil (化石)! It was once a shellfish and has turned into a rock after millions of years!” Dad said happily. Greatly inspired, Alice continued her search, determined to find a better one, but she failed. Darkness fell, and Alice had to head back to the campsite with her family in disappointment. On the way back they stopped at a shop, where Alice spotted some amazing fossils! But soon she found they were too expensive! Back at the camp, Alice was still thinking of the amazing fossils in the shop. Suddenly an idea occurred to her, “ I􀆳ll do everyone􀆳s jobs and then I can get all the extra pocket money to buy a fossil!” The next morning, Alice offered to dry the dishes and walk the dog, which greatly pleased Mike and Jeff. But things didn􀆳t go as Alice planned. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为 150 左右; 2. 请按如下格式作答。 When Dad saw Alice walking the dog, he was confused.
