课时作业 9 THE
INTERNET
Ⅰ. 阅读理解
"
(2023·成都实验外国语学校二模)
In
my
opinion,
my
mother
has
the
ability
to
do
anything,
especially
chores
such
as
ironing
and
cooking.
However,
teaching
her
how
to
use
the
Internet
is
as
frustrating
as
untangling
( 解 开)
wires.
Once,
my
mother
came
to
me
to
ask
for
help
on
how
to
find
a
recipe
for
all-beef
Lasagna.
I
gave
her
very
simple
verbal
instructions—go
to
the
home
page
of
a
particular
search
engine
and
type
in
“ recipe
for
all-beef
Lasagna ” .
Fifteen
minutes
later,
she
came
to
me,
telling
me
that
she
was
unable
to
find
the
Internet
icon.
I
went
over
to
the
computer
and
pointed
out
the
icon
to
her.
Another
fifteen
minutes
went
by
when
I
felt
a
tap
on
my
shoulder.
This
time,
my
mother
said
that
she
was
unable
to
search
for
the
particular
recipe.
Gritting
(咬)
my
teeth,
I
walked
to
her
room
again.
I
saw
that
she
had
typed
“all
beef
La
saga”
instead.
With
frustrated
strokes,
I
keyed
in
the
correct
spelling.
Yet
another
fifteen
minutes
went
by
again
when
my
mother
gingerly
tapped
my
shoulder.
I
stormed
next
door
without
bothering
to
hide
my
frustration.
The
main
page
of
the
website
had
not
shifted
one
bit.
I
then
realized
that
she
did
not
know
how
to
scroll
(滚动屏幕)
down
the
page.
What
had
initially
seemed
like
an
easy
task
was
turning
out
to
be
an
intense
one.
To
avoid
being
disturbed
again,
I
decided
to
find
the
recipe
for
her.
Without
a
word,
I
rapidly
downloaded
a
few
recipes,
printed
them
out
and
passed
them
to
my
mother.
However,
seeing
her
embarrassment,
I
began
to
regret
my
impatience.
At
that
moment,
memories
flashed
through
my
mind.
When
I
was
young,
my
mother
endured
my
endless
questions,
enlightening
me
with
much
patience.
Now
that
I
am
older,
the
roles
slowly
reverse.
As
my
mother
may
increasingly
need
my
help,
shouldnt
I
rethink
how
to
respond
to
her
needs?
1. Why
did
the
author
give
her
mother
very
simple
instructions
at
first?
A. Because
she
was
an
impatient
person.
B. Because
she
didnt
want
to
be
disturbed.
C. Because
she
wanted
to
make
them
easy
to
follow.
D. Because
she
thought
it
was
an
easy
task
to
do.
2. How
did
the
authors
mother
feel
when
she
got
the
recipes?
A. Delighted. B. Embarrassed.
C. Frustrated. D. Impatient.
3. Which
of
the
following
is
probably
the
end
of
the
story?
A. The
author
becomes
more
willing
to
help
her
mother.
B. The
authors
mother
becomes
more
patient
to
her.
C. The
authors
mother
doesnt
turn
to
her
for
help
any
more.
D. The
author
learns
more
recipes
with
her
mother.
4. What
can
be
a
suitable
title
for
this
text?
A. Its
never
too
old
to
learn
B. Action
speaks
louder
than
words
C. Patience
is
the
mother
of
success
D. Understanding

teens
spend
more
than
eight
hours
a
day
on
screens,
and
theres
growing
concern
over
how
social
media
may
affect
their
mental
health.
Now,
a
new
study
has
found
that
limiting
screen
time
to
-510-
必修第二册 3
about
one
hour
a
day
helped
anxious
teens
feel
better
about
their
body
image
and
their
appearance.
The
study
arose
from
the
personal
experience
of
Helen
Thai,
a
doctoral
student
in
psychology
at
MeGill
University. “ What
I
noticed
when
I
was
engaging
in
social
media
was
that
I
couldnt
help
but
compare
myself,”
Thai
says.
She
was
well
aware
that
social
media
posts
often
feature
polished,
airbrushed
or
filtered
images
that
can
alter
(改变)
appearances
in
an
unrealistic
way,
but
it
still
affected
her
negatively.
So,
Thai
and
a
team
of
researchers
decided
to
test
whether
cutting
time
on
social
media
platforms
including
Instagram,
TikTok
and
Snapchat
would
improve
body
image.
They
recruited
a
few
hundred
volunteers,
all
of
whom
had
experienced
symptoms
of
anxiety
or
depression,
which
could
make
them
vulnerable
to
the
effects
of
social
media.
Half
of
the
participants
were
asked
to
reduce
their
social
media
to
60
minutes
a
day
for
three
weeks
while
the
other
half
continued
to
use
social
media
with
no
restrictions,
which
averaged
about
three
hours
per
day.
The
researchers
gave
the
participants
surveys
at
the
beginning
and
end
of
the
study,
which
included
statements
such
as
“ Im
pretty
happy
about
the
way
I
look,”
and
“ I
am
satisfied
with
my
weight. ”
Among
the
group
that
cut
social
media
use,
the
overall
score
on
appearance
improved
from
2. 95
to
3. 15
on
a
5-point
scale.
This
may
seem
like
a
small
change,
but
any
shift
in
such
a
short
period
of
time
is
striking,
the
authors
say.
“ The
study
is
encouraging,
but
it
only
included
people
who
had
symptoms
of
anxiety
or
depression.
Its
worth
evaluating
this
approach
with
other
groups,
such
as
people
with
or
at
risk
of
eating
disorders.
Its
also
possible
that
the
benefits
of
cutting
back
could
extend
more
broadly
to
anyone
in
this
age
group,”
says
psychologist
Andrea
Graham,
co-director
of
the
Center
for
Behavioral
Intervention
at
Northwestern
University.
5. What
problem
may
social
media
bring
to
teenagers
according
to
Thai?
A. They
may
become
addicted
to
the
Internet.
B. They
tend
to
become
sensitive
to
others
comments.
C. They
may
have
unrealistic
expectations
of
their
image.
D. They
tend
to
compare
themselves
with
the
images
posted
online.
6. What
can
we
learn
about
the
participants
during
the
study?
A. They
scored
their
appearance
twice.
B. Half
of
them
stopped
using
social
media.
C. They
hoped
to
improve
their
body
image.
D. Most
of
them
showed
dissatisfaction
with
their
weight.
7. What
did
Graham
think
of
the
study?
A. It
was
a
good
try
but
had
limitations.
B. It
was
well
designed
but
poorly
conducted.
C. It
was
a
failure
but
the
methods
deserved
praise.
D. It
was
encouraging
but
the
evidence
was
unreliable.
8. Which
of
the
following
is
the
best
title
for
the
text?
A. Shorter

Better

B. How

high-five
your
computer
screen

a
full
arm
extension,
youre
sitting
too
close. ”指出一个具体方法来测试一下自己
是否离屏幕的距离合适。 由此可知,空处应
该是承接上文,具体描述离屏幕合适的距
离,F 项“这通常被认为是至少离屏幕一臂
远” 符合语境,是对上文的具体描述,故
选 F。
2. G 根 据 本 段 中 心 句 “ Position

You
can
also

much
greater
risk
of
drying
out
when
working
on
the
computer. ”指出盯着电脑屏幕,会有
眼干的风险,这说明盯着电脑会导致每分钟
眨眼睛次数变少。 由此可知,E 项“但是当
我们把注意力集中在屏幕上的时候,这个数
字会减少一半”符合语境,“ this”代指上文提
到的“blink
about
20
times
every
minute”。 故

4. A 此处是本段中心句。 根据下文 “Your
screen
should
be
brightened
in
relation
to
your
environment.

working
in

brightly
lit
room,
you
can

While
the

be
the
brightest

in
the
room,
it
shouldnt
be
on
the
brightest

If
this
is
unavoidable,
