(2024·河北邢台高三联考)Christian Bowers had many friends in high school, but after graduating five years ago, it has been hard to find good friends. That is all because of Christian's special condition. He was born with Down syndrome (唐氏综合征), which made it difficult for him to make friends with others.Donna Herter, Christian's mom, felt sorrowful for her son.She found her son's lack of friends was making him feel depressed.
She would notice her son was just constantly asking, “Where are my friends? Why doesn't anybody want to come over and spend some time with me?” They would go to the store and he would invite half of people in the store to come home and play video games with him.And of course, nobody would. As a result, he would be disappointed. But he just didn't understand why.
Herter wanted to help her son, but she didn't know where to turn.So she posted a post on the Internet. The post read, “I am looking for a young man, between the ages of 20 and 28, local.I would pay $80 for two hours to basically just hang out and play video games with my son.All he really wants is just a guy friend to do guy stuff with him.”
Herter is a nurse, working the overnight shift. She sent the post at 4 am before ending her workday. And when she woke up, it had about 5,000 comments, which extremely shocked her.Her hands were shaking, and she was sweating. She hadn't expect it was such a hit.She was just looking for some local guys. She didn't want to invite the entire world into their house. She thought about deleting the post, but a friend told her to look at the replies and choose whoever may be suitable.

(2024·温州高三联考)In the spring sun, my aunt and I headed for her flower shop.Normally I would be delighted to help in her shop, but not recently because of Rosa.Rosa was my sister, just one month old, who was settled in my old bedroom. For ten years, the small room was full of my toys and books. But now it was transformed into her baby room, decorated like a garden with pinks and yellows. My space, my old life, was gone.
“Here we are!” We arrived at the shop, a wave of colour and sweet smell washing over me.My aunt said I could pick some flowers for Mum and Dad.I used to love this, but today I was so overcome with tiredness and envy. Why bother to bring them flowers when they were enjoying Rosa at home without me?
Silently I helped my aunt arrange flowers.“Your mum told me there hasn't been much shut eye recently for any of you.” “Not much, since Rosa the alarm clock was installed(安装),” I complained with a huge yawn (哈欠).
“I remember having to creep (蹑手蹑脚地走) around like a wornout mouse when your mum was a baby.I spent the first months hating her so much.” “But you and Mum seem so close,” I said, guiltily hiding away my envy of Rosa.
“Now we are.But it took me years to grow into the role of big sister.Few flowers blossom (绽放) overnight, you know.” She pulled me in for a side hug, glancing up at the clock, and suggested I take a walk outside.
Behind her shop was a field dotted with spring flowers.Stepping into the field, I began to pick little flowers. It was like gathering my childhood memories.I remembered how I'd sit with Dad, making flower chains, crowning (授予) each other with the silliest titles: Queen of Junk Food and King of Mess.My smile grew wider. The shining yellow flowers reminded me of the color in Rosa's baby room. Was she awake? I wondered.

Suddenly I saw two familiar figures walking towards me. It was Mum and Dad, one pushing the stroller and the other carrying the picnic stuff. They greeted me with a radiant smile and I smiled back.As they approached, I couldn't help noticing the dark circles around their eyes, evidence of countless sleepless nights. For a moment, my previous tiredness and envy melted. After laying out the picnic blanket, we sat on it, enjoying the luscious fruit and delicious snacks. All of a sudden, I handed the flowers picked just now to Dad, mumbling, “King of Love”.Gently stroking my hair, Dad's lips curved into a smile. As we chatted, the slight shake of the baby basket arrested my attention. Was Rosa awake? I couldn't wait to rush to have a look.
Rosa was wide awake in her baby basket beside the picnic blanket. Her eyes sparkled as she gazed at me.She would like flowers, I thought.Affectionately scooping her up, I picked little flowers again and handed them to Rosa. Her tiny fingers reached out, touching the petals with wonder.Suddenly, her face broke into a toothless grin, as if she appreciated the beauty of the colorful blossoms.Meanwhile, my heart softened, and a touch of concern surged through me.The rest of the afternoon witnessed us four on the blanket, basking in the warm sunshine. We formed a circle of love, bridging the gap between my old life and the blossoming moments with Rosa.

Our friendship runs back to our college days when I first met Rishi. We had our own share of “first impression about each other”.Mine was—she's lovely, charming and full of life personality.Hers was—I look like an arrogant personality.I don't blame her for this. Many of my close friends had the same view when they first met me.Blame it on my bitch face and me being a shy person to some extent.
We became really close within a short period of time. Our room was a group of four people divided into 2 each during our final year when we both chose advertising as our specialization and the other two journalism.Back then, I was a regular user of BBM messenger and hardly used Whatsapp.
On one specific occasion, we had really bad argument about a failed project. The usual blame game was on.We decided to put it past us and focus on our studies.During this time, she once handed me her phone to show me a picture. While I was going through that, I came across a message from a particular Whatsapp group that comprises of her and my other two friends.I asked her permission to view the group. She had a blank expression on her face. But she allowed me to go ahead.
I was in shock while going through their messages. Not really positive things were said about me in particular. It shook me.Because these were the people.I considered my friends.I broke down in front of her.She apologised. But I felt cheated on.I told her about my decision of not wanting to continue this friendship further. We both missed each other. But neither of us wanted to give the last try.

It's been almost 7 years after graduation since we picked up our friendship.Looking back, I am always grateful for her stepping up to make up with me.Till now, she has been one of the few people I can trust and count on.Our major offered us the same background so that we supported each other in our professional development.Of course, we had argument from time to time. But deep down, we both know all the argument is just about helping us to grow into a better individual instead of enemies. Therefore, we both learned to be tolerant and brave enough to always forgive. If we really value our friends and friendship, always cherish their presence and show willingness to maintain and nurture the relationship

I knew the fearful day would come sooner or later. However, it came too fast.I was waiting in the dental clinic, nervous about what was to come.
Seeing my nervousness, my parents told me to sit up, and to take deep breaths to keep calm, which worked. However, the peace was shortlived.Almost immediately, my name was called, signaling my turn had come.I pretended to be deaf but my mother gestured at me to stand up.I forced myself to step forward and tripped over a toy left lying around by some kid.My clumsiness (笨拙) got me the attention of everyone in the room.
I had refused my parents' offer to accompany me.I meant to show them that I was brave enough to face the difficulty on my own.Thankfully, I forgot my anxiety as I looked around the dentist's room.Tools of different sizes were arranged neatly in a tray (托盘) on the tiny table which was connected to a chair with buttons and a light hanging right over it.I didn't look at my dentist in the eye as I took my place on the chair nervously.I almost jumped out of the seat when all of a sudden the chair moved and I was lying down facing the bright yellow light.
The dentist spoke in a relaxing voice behind her mask.Everything was going smoothly and I was quite proud of myself. Then something went wrong.I was picking up the cup of water placed next to the chair for patients to rinse (冲洗) their mouths when I caught sight of the dental drill.Panic related to a bad childhood experience involving the drill kicked into me, and I spat out the rinsing water, right into the surprised dentist's face.

Seeing the room was in a mess, I felt nervous and helped the dentist stand up from the ground.I lowered my head in shame and apologized to her for the reason why I had made so much trouble. On hearing what I said, the dentist breathed a sigh of relief. She calmed me down and comforted me gently, saying nothing is better than we are OK.Afterwards, we cleaned and tidied up the room. The following treatment went well as if drills weren't so frightening any more. When going back home, I told my parents this was the most embarrassing experience I ever had, but I also appreciated what the dentist had treated me in the process.

Lungs nearly bursting, I struggled to lift my head out of the water.Inch by inch, my tired body reached for the end of the pool.
The extent of my swimming career was purely recreational, while the competitive swimmers nearby thought nothing of the seemingly simple task of a 500meter swim test.Pushing myself to finish what I had started, I could only think: why not take the easy way out?
Earlier that week, I had turned in my first job application at a local pool.Overqualified,I was hired on the spot. However, the tasks were boring: helping confused visitors and measuring the height of children before they went down the slide, those sorts of things.I was capable of more.
So a swim test was required, establishing the mere fact that I was not completely helpless in a pool.Midway through, the manager administering the test remarked, “This looks really easy for you.Why aren't you applying to become a guard?”
“The thought hadn't crossed my mind.”
“Well, life guarding demands more responsibility, strength and respect. Thus the position pays $2 more per hour.Your swimming skills are strong enough. All you need to do is complete a certification class.”
Inside I was unsure of myself, but his words inspired me—You never know what you are capable of until you force yourself to do it.Soon I passed the swim test. All left was to practice and learn first aid, CPR (心肺复苏),and procedures for different land and waterbased emergencies.
Work started soon.A wellintentioned yet anxious feeling in me soon passed.Days, weeks, and months went by without incident; emergencies were rare. The skills and training I had so carefully studied and acquired seemed unnecessary.
Today appeared to be another uneventful day. However, shortly after the other guards signaled to the children to exit the pool, I noticed one boy was still in the middle while the others had climbed up.

“Something must have gone wrong with him,” I thought to myself.
Having the boy on the floor, I put my ear to his mouth and my fingers at his neck.
[参考范文]
“Something must have gone wrong with him,” I thought to myself. As expected, upon closer inspection, I found the boy desperately waving his hands.I quickly jumped into the water and swam towards the boy at full speed. When I found him, he had already sunk to the bottom of the pool, his head hanging down, which filled my heart with fear and worry.I picked up the boy and walked towards the pool, keeping his head above the water.
Having the boy on the floor, I put my ear to his mouth and my fingers at his neck.I can see that he doesn't have a heartbeat or breath.Every second counts! I did not hesitate to give him first aid, gave him mouth to mouth breathing, and performed CPR according to the training. The other guards watched anxiously as I continued on, sweating profusely.Suddenly, a stream of water gushed out of his mouth, causing the boy to cough violently.Seeing the boy regain consciousness, everyone around him cheered.Exhausted, I breathed a sigh of relief.I think if I accepted that relaxed position, I would only be a bystander.I'm glad I didn't take a shortcut.

“If Mum finds out that I'm going to the beach, I'll be in big trouble,” I said to myself in a low voice.I went downstairs slowly and tried to walk casually into the kitchen. As I was walking towards the back door, Mum asked without looking up from her dishwashing, “Where are you going?” I answered back without hesitation.“I am going to the garden to play.” After I got out of the kitchen, I breathed a sigh of relief. My plan had worked out fine so far.I climbed the fence and jumped onto the muddy field next to my house and started running towards the bus stop at top speed.
After half an hour I was at the beach scanning the crowd for my friends, Jimmy and Bob.I spotted two young men racing in the canoes (独木舟) in the sea. After a while, I saw my friends near a coconut tree.I ran towards them. For about an hour, we played volleyball happily.
Suddenly, Bob hit the ball too hard and the ball fell into the sea.Just as Bob was going to pick up the ball, the tide came in and carried the ball further and further away from the shore.I wanted to show off my swimming skills so I declared to help get the ball for them.
I dived into the water and started swimming at a steady pace. After swimming for about ten minutes, I became tired but when I saw that the ball was only a few feet away from me, I put in an extra burst of speed. However, just as I was going to get the ball, a very strong current swept the ball further away from me.At that moment, a string of weed (海草) tangled (缠绕) up with my feet and I could not swim properly.
I struggled to keep afloat but it was no use.“If I had not made this reckless move, this would never have happened,” I thought silently.

In Emily White's hometown, there was a yearly performance in the school auditorium (礼堂).It had been performed for so many years and actually had become one of the most important events of the Christmas season for many of the town's people.
Many people tried out each year for it, but so many were turned away.It can only include the most excellent people in the field.
Emily had a beautiful singing voice.Last year she went to Mrs.Owens—her music teacher to ask to join in the performance.Without letting her sing, Mrs.Owens took a look at Amy's body and said, “Child, you just don't fit.Everyone would stare at you and that would make you uncomfortable. It would make them uncomfortable too.”
Without singing a single note, Emily was sent back through the door of the choral room.Hurt and upset, she decided never to try out again. But Mrs.Owens then retired.
This year, there came a new music teacher, Mr.Buttler.He heard about Emily and suggested that she have a try.
Emily didn't want to be rejected again, so she hesitated a little about it.As Emily struggled, the door was pushed open and Mr.Buttler called, “Emily you're next.” Although kind of nervous, Emily did as Mr.Buttler told her to do.Mr.Buttler sat by the piano to keep Emily company. When Emily finished her testing performance, she thanked Mr.Buttler and knew the result would be posted on the door of the choral room the next day.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Mom!” I screamed as I looked through the window.“Why is my Ink Spot sitting in Mrs.Cleary's window?”
Mom pushed past me to confirm it.Sure enough, across the street was Ink Spot cleaning himself in the window of Mrs.Cleary's sitting room.I couldn't believe my eyes.He was my cat, not Mrs.Cleary's.She had already adopted twelve cats. Why must she keep my cat?I could feel anger boiling up inside me.Meanwhile, Ink Spot's leaving without any signs upset me.A sense of being left out hit me hard.
Ink Spot was special for me.After my baby sister's birth, “my” parents' time was taken by her.It seemed no one in the family cared about or even noticed me.Worse still, I was packed off to a kindergarten.I hated being left out from the bottom of my heart.
It was when Mom noticed me weeping in a corner one night that things began to change. After that, Ink Spot came into my life.Every night, he curled up beside me in bed and he was there for me after school when I raced home just to be with him.
I fell in love with Ink Spot the first time I saw its tiny black and white spots, for which I called him Ink Spot.Mom and Daddy beamed with pleasure as my eyes danced with joy again. It was the first time that I had smiled since my little baby sister came into the family. As for me, he was more than a cat.Actually, he was my life.
But today when I came home, Ink Spot was in Mrs.Cleary's window.I wanted him back. But Mom insisted that if Ink Spot stayed at Mrs.Cleary's, that meant it was where he wanted to be.“No!Mom, Ink Spot is my cat,” I protested wildly but I had to admit the truth of Mom's words.Standing on the sidewalk, I was at a loss as to what to do.Staring at Ink Spot for a while, I couldn't stand the anger any longer.
注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右;

I walked towards Mrs.Cleary's house hurriedly and knocked at the door angrily.
Upon seeing me, Ink Spot jumped off the window, running towards me in a flash.
[参考范文]
I walked towards Mrs.Cleary's house hurriedly and knocked at the door angrily. The moment she opened the door, I asked Mrs.Cleary with watery eyes, “Why is my cat in your window?” Confused, Mrs.Cleary responded, “I didn't know he was yours.I just thought he was another abandoned cat, so I took him in just like I took in all the rest.” adding that she was awfully sorry if what she did had unintentionally hurt me.Then she led me directly to the sitting room, where cats were playing happily.
Upon seeing me, Ink Spot jumped off the window, running towards me in a flash.A flood of excitement passed through my body.I immediately picked him up and held him close as he rubbed beneath my chin purring loudly.Seeing my cat well taken care of, I realized I had misunderstood my caring neighbor. Now my anger gave way to gratitude.I thanked her again and again before I took Ink Spot to my home, where I thought he should belong. The lost and found companion made me feel I was someone again.
