Ⅰ.阅读理解(每小题5分,共40分) A (2024·青岛适应性检测) Imagine a plate holding two strawberries, identical in appearance. One came out of a supermarket box, meaning it was probably harvested when it was still unripe. By the time it reached the plate it may have been off the vine for two weeks. The other strawberry was picked from a garden minutes before being eaten. Supermarket strawberries are not entirely without advantages: they are convenient and still available even in winter months. But the two berries differ from each other in the same way that hearing music in a concert hall differs from listening to it on an old CD player. The home-grown fruit is an eatable case for making a home garden. Your columnist, who long considered gardening a complete waste of time, advances this argument with great enthusiasm. Planting cool-weather greens, as gardeners across the north-east of America are now doing, can seem nonsense, since convenient, continuously well-stocked supermarket shelves are available all week. But the same could be said of cooking: there are many cheap and decent restaurants around, so why bother to make your own meals? That attitude misconstrues the ultimate appeal of gardening: it mistakes the product for the purpose. It is true that a garden can produce tomatoes and carrots of incomparable sweetness, and celtuce and herbs that taste like themselves rather than the plastic they are usually packaged in. While finding, let’s say, celtuce in the shops can take some time, effort, and expense, growing your own vegetables ensures a reliable supply. On the other hand, a garden, especially in the early years, can produce little but frustration. Green hands may plant the wrong crops for their soil. And even expert gardeners can lose a season’s harvest to uncooperative weather. No matter. The real joy of gardening is the time spent doing it. The deepest pleasure—as with cooking, writing or almost anything worthwhile — is in the work itself. To garden is to patiently, lovingly and diligently help life become strong and healthy, in the ground and above it. 1.What can we know about the supermarket strawberries? D.Highlights. 根据画线词后文“the ultimate appeal of gardening: it mistakes the product for the purpose”可知,这种态度错误地把产品当成了目的,即这种态度误解了园艺的最终吸引力。 故选A项。 3.Why does the author mention the failures in gardening? A.To warn readers not to take up gardening easily. B.To advise readers to work in harmony with nature. C.To make readers reflect on the methods of gardening. It has been believed that the species mix in a particular place should remain as unchanged as possible. But this is just an opinion. Other opinions are possible. A study, published recently by Dov Sax of Brown University, thus asks how the benefits of introduced species might be better assessed, so that opinions can be more informed. Specifically, he identifies several aspects for that. Initially, whether introduced species provide direct human advantage is taken into account. Dr. Sax and his colleagues ignored crops, since their benefits are obvious. But they included transplanted grass species that have gone wild, yet provide grazing(牧草)for domestic animals, and introduced forest trees that produce wood for construction. Another factor is their possible benefit to the ecosystem into which the introduction has happened. Such introduction is sometimes made to reduce the risk of a localised species becoming extinct. Pyne’s ground plum(李子),native to a handful of sites in the central basins of Tennessee but now transplanted to others, falls into this category. The last value is experienced on an emotional rather than a practical level. Lots of people feel good about native wildlife, which is generally the main motive for its conservation. But that feel-good factor can extend to introduced species as well. Such value can cut both ways, however. For example, ring-necked parakeets, an Asian and African species, have been spreading through Britain for several decades. Some find them a colourful addition to the local wildlife, others a noisy competitor for native birds. In light of their analysis, Dr. Sax and his team therefore suggest that researchers studying introduced species should in future create a clear distinction in their studies between changes that have happened and judgments about the value of those changes. In addition, when making those judgments, they should acknowledge all types of values, rather than focusing narrowly on one or two of them. That done, many species will surely still be accused of possible damage. But others, badly thought of in the past, may not. 5.What is Dr. Sax’s study aimed to do? A.Keep track of introduced species. B.Get introduced species fully understood. C.Compare opinions on introduced species. D.Identify consequences of introducing species. 根据第一段中“A study, published recently... so that opinions can be more informed.” 6.Why was Pyne’s ground plum transplanted to other places? A.To provide graze for local animals. B.To produce wood for construction. C.To build a new local ecosystem. D.To save local species from dying out. 7.How do local people react to the introduction of ring-necked parakeets? A.They don’t care about it. B.They consider it acceptable. C.They can’t put up with it. D.They hold divided opinions on it. 8.What does Dr. Sax suggest to the future researchers? A.Focusing on main values. B.Evaluating evident changes. C.Analyzing previous researches. D.Presenting all-round assessments. Ⅱ.阅读七选五(每小题6分,共30分) I’m a hiker—“born to hike”.It does my heart and soul good to take a pack and head out on a trail (小路), especially when I’m alone and can let my mind wander where it will. 1 Hiking keeps your brain sharper than many other forms of exercise. As a professional writer, although I am busy with my work, I often spare some time to hike. 2 3 Exercise in general can be a good way to decrease stress. But what sets hiking apart from other forms of exercise is that hiking can happen almost anywhere and give you the happiness that you can take from nature. Hiking can increase our creativity. I’m sure I’m not alone in finding that walks in nature let my mind wander freely in creative directions. 4 Sometimes, ideas relevant to music come up from unconscious places when I’m not deliberately thinking. Hiking helps strengthen a positive relationship with the natural world. Besides being good for us, hiking may also help the world around us. After all, if we stick to walking and covering longer distances, we could use cars less and reduce our carbon footprint. 5 For example, it increases our connection to nature. As one study suggests, when we have a personal connection to nature, we are more likely to want to protect it. That means experiences in nature—like hiking—can be mutually (相互地) beneficial, helping people and the earth. So, grab a water bottle, a backpack...and head out on the trail. You won’t be sorry you did. A.Hiking helps to keep you calm and happy. B.Beyond that, hiking benefits our planet indirectly. C.The following are the benefits you can get from hiking. D.In fact, I’ve written many of my songs while hiking on a trail. E.It’s easy for me to come up with creative ideas while sitting alone. F.It not just makes me feel good, but also helps me keep the brain in top shape. G.This all goes to show that hiking maybe one of the best ways to move your body. 2.答案:F 解析:根据本段的主旨句“Hiking keeps your brain sharper than many other forms of exercise.” 根据下文“Exercise in general... to decrease stress...give you the happiness...” 根据空处下文“Sometimes, ideas relevant to music come up from unconscious places when I’m not deliberately thinking.” 5.答案:B 解析:根据空处下文的举例“For example, it increases... we are more likely to want to protect it.” Dear fellow students, ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________ The Students’ Union Li Hua 【参考范文】 Dear fellow students, To express our heartfelt gratitude,we advocate doing something for our beloved people.
