(2024·大连高三双基测试)Chatting in her bright two bedroom flat,Shirley Meredeen doesn't hesitate about describing the benefits of living here.“It keeps my brain going. We are all very active because there is so much to do...We're really lucky to have such a supportive community.”
In 1998, Meredeen first heard of the concept of cohousing as developed in the Netherlands and decided to copy its model in the UK and create the Older Women's CoHousing (OWCH) with her friends. But they didn't imagine that it would be an 18year struggle. The novelty of the idea coupled with the lack of data to prove the social and economic benefits made it difficult for them to access public money.Councils always compared their idea to sheltered accommodation and saw it as a burden for their already overstretched budgets.
In fact, the communityled housing is a departure from the conventional understanding of later life. Now, the community comprises 25 flats as well as a shared kitchen, meeting room, laundry garden, car park and a guest room.People live together based on interdependence. They can take control of their future instead of relying on their families or care homes. All the neighbours look out for each other, which means accompanying each other to medical appointments, doing the local shopping, having family contacts in preparation for an emergency...But the limits of such informal care among residents still need to be worked out.
OWCH has paved the way for alternative living arrangements in later life and the support for communityled housing is starting to emerge in the form of guidance and funding, according to UK Cohousing Network.
4.What do we know about Meredeen?
A.She first tried cohousing in the Netherlands.
B.She is a regular visitor to OWCH.
C.She is a pioneer in elderly care service.
D.She founded OWCH singlehanded.
根据第二段中的“In 1998,Meredeen...CoHousing(OWCH)with her friends”和最后一段中的“OWCH has paved the way for alternative living arrangements in later life”可知,1998年,Shirley Meredeen在荷兰听说了共居概念,便决定在英国复制该模式,并和朋友一起创建OWCH。
5.Why did it take such a long time to set up OWCH?
A.It didn't benefit social economy. B.It didn't keep up with the time.
C.It called for careful budgeting. D.It was hard to get public funding.
根据第二段中的“The novelty of the...made it difficult for them to access public money.”
6.Which is probably the reason why seniors choose OWCH?
A.They will become more independent. B.They are responsible for each other.
C.They receive more care services. D.They can rely on their relatives.
解析:选A。
7.What is the purpose of the text?
A.To describe an ambitious figure. B.To introduce a new lifestyle of seniors.
C.To ensure elderly people's welfare. D.To inspire the aged to achieve their dreams.
Ⅱ.七选五
(2024·广州高三调研)Are you frequently depressed by the feeling that life is leaving you behind particularly when you look over social media sites and are faced with all the exciting things your friends are up to?1.________
FOMO,or Fear of Missing Out,refers to the perception that other people's lives are superior to our own life.It appears as a deep sense of envy, and constant exposure to it can have a weakening effect on our selfesteem(自尊).
While feelings of envy and lack of confidence seem to be human nature, social media seem to have added fuel to the fire.2.________Social media, with their builtin appeal, allow us to share only the best presentations of our life, while leaving out the more boring aspects.Although this could be characterized as dishonesty,it is the atmosphere social media seem to demand. So how do we avoid being trapped into our own insecurities by social media?
Consider your own social media posts.3.________Well,so have others. And what they've left hidden is the fact that boredom, loneliness and unpleasant chores are an unavoidable part of everyone's life, and you're not the only one feeling left out.
4.________ You may not be a regular at fancy parties or a climber of dizzying peaks, but you have your health, a place to live and real friends who appreciate your presence in their lives.
Learn to shake it off.We are all flooded daily with photos of other people's perfection, but really, what does it matter?5.________And even if you are more easily affected than others by social media envy, all you need to do is look around you and acknowledge that you are doing pretty well after all.
A.If so, you are not alone.
B.Value your friends in real life.
C.Learn to appreciate the positives.
D.Why do they have such a stimulating effect?
E.They are probably no more real than the funniest reality TV show.
F.The feeling that we are left out has longterm damaging psychological consequences.
G.Have you ever chosen photos that lead others to the rosiest conclusions about your life?
1.解析:选A。
根据本段中“but you have your health, a place to live and real friends who appreciate your presence in their lives”可知,空后内容在讲你拥有健康,有可以住的地方,有真正的朋友,C项“学会看到积极的一面”与之对应。
5.解析:选E。根据本段中的“We are all flooded...but really, what does it matter?”

1.解析:that/which。 故填that/which。
2.解析:was created。 故填was created。
the key to...
4.解析:and。 故填and。
5.解析:to produce。 此处为固定句型:it takes...to do sth 意为“做某事花费……”。故填to produce。
7.解析:to。 故填to。
