I must have looked deep in thought, or as deep in thought as an 11-year-old boy can, when my grandmother glanced up from her weeding to ask, “You have something on your mind, don’t you?”
“Yes, I am thinking that someday I will be an Olympic speed skating champion like my hero, Eric Heiden, and I want to be a doctor like my father to help children in Africa.”
I immediately knew I had the right person when a knowing smile flashed across her face. “Johann, of course! You can do anything you want to do!” she said simply. And with my grandmother’s support, I set out to pursue my passions.
14 years later, I was well ready to realize my first dream: becoming an Olympic champion. The Olympics in 1994 were in my home country, Norway. As I entered the Olympic stadium, I wasn’t the best athlete, and many had doubts about my ability to perform well. But I had something special working for me. I had a woman in the first row who believed that I would follow my passions just as much as I did. For the first time ever, my grandmother was going to see me skate.
It happened. Breaking the world record, I won the gold.
As I stood on the podium (领奖台) that I had dreamed about in my entire life, a curious question popped into my head. Why me? Why did I win, given all the other incredible competitors out there? The reason had to be more than a grandmother who shared a belief in her grandson’s dream. The question led me to only one answer: because I wanted to make a difference in the world, and with all the media attention on my success, I could.
I immediately knew what that difference had to be: hope in the lives of the children in Africa. Six months earlier, I’d been invited to Eritrea as an ambassador for Olympic Aid.

B.His preparations for the next Olympics.
C.His successes at other Olympic games.
D.His grandmother’s attitude towards him.
27.What’s the passage mainly about?
A.A report about an Olympic hero. B.A young boy who had many dreams.
C.The encouragement from a grandmother. D.A sportsman who helped African children.

Love it or hate it, there is no escape from Internet slang.
This is especially true among young people in some English- speaking countries such as Australia, the UK, and the US. These days, if they haven’t caught up with the latest popular Internet slang, chances are that they often feel out of the loop on social media.
Take these posts by The Washington Post for example: “David Bowie dying is totes trade” and “When Cookie hugged Jamal, it made me totes emosh”. What on earth do these mean? Well, “totes” is a short form of the adverb “totally”. Likewise, “tradge” means “tragic” and “emosh” means “emotional”.
It seems that for millennials ( those born between the early 1980s and late 1990s), typing in this abbreviated (缩写) form is not only time- saving but also stylish. Many millennial slang words are formed by what linguists call the practice of totesing — the systematic abbreviation of words, according to a recent article in The Washington Post.
Some people think that millennial slang affects the English language negatively. However, Melbourne University linguist Rosey Billington doesn’t agree.
“When you are able to use language in a creative way, you show you are linguistically knowledgeable because you know the language rules well enough to use words in a different way,” Billington told News.com. Her view is backed up by two linguists, Lauren Spradlin, and Taylor Jones, from the City University of New York and the University of Pennsylvania respectively. The two believe that totes- speak is a highly- organized system that can only be used by speakers who have mastered English pronunciation,
“The ability to break apart syllables and mix different sounds together is key. Totesing is about sounds, and it follows the sometimes- complicated sound system of English,” Jones told The Washington Post. Totesing is not random (随意的). On the contrary, it has strict rules to follow. You need to be very fluent in the English language to be able to understand totes- speak.
28.The underlined phrase “out of the loop” in the second paragraph probably means ______.
A.declined by others B.welcomed by others
C.unaware of certain information D.clear about certain information
29.What are the characteristics of millennial slang?
A.Useless but time- saving. B.Time- saving and fashionable.
C.Complicated and outdated. D.Systematic but time- consuming.
30.What does Lauren Spradlin think of the practice of totesing?
A.Positive. B.Negative. C.Confusing. D.Critical.
31.Which of the following might Taylor Jones agree with?
A.Internet slang is mostly created by professional linguists.
B.Totesing is mainly about making words easier to pronounce.
C.Totesing requires speakers to master the language’s rules very well.
D.Internet slang should be prevented since it is difficult to understand.

A Chinese medical research team has developed a model using artificial intelligence(AI) technology to blood analysis, allowing labs to provide faster and more correct feedback to doctors.
Hospital labs generally test millions of blood cells for disease diagnosis every day, which is a peated task usually performed by hand by trained physicians who check blood samples through ceroscopies, one after another.
The new AI model has been considered as a breakthrough development, as it has the potential to alter change how labs analyze blood samples, simplifying the evaluation process and finding potential abnormal conditions with great efficiency.
A blood smear is a traditional examination used to look for abnormalities in blood cells. It an important way to discover blood system disorders. However, the current analysis of blood smear ges under a microscope is time-consuming and mainly relies on the skills and experience of physicians. Many Chinese clinics at the grassroots level are lacking well-trained professionals, resulting in a low rate of diagnosis.
With 2,500 microscopic blood smear images of patients, researchers developed the AI-assisted model. “The AI has learned to recognize which cells are normal or abnormal with an accuracy rate of over 90 percent in a shorter time than human eyes,” said Peng Xiangui, leader of the research team.
Peng went on to explain that to train and test the AI model, his team fed it with data involving 300,000 red blood cells collected over the past five years. The results showed that it can accurately identify 49 types of abnormal blood cells, covering most of the common diseases seen in the clinic.
In addition to reducing human labor, Peng believes that such a medical AI model will assist inexperienced physicians in reaching the level of an expert and increase their work efficiency. Besides, the AI database can store unlimited information, making diagnosis more scientific and accurate.
32..Which of the following is the advantage of the new AI model?
A.Cheaper price. B.Higher efficiency. C.Clearer images. D.Better handling.
33.Why does the blood smear lead to a low rate of diagnosis at the grassroots level?
A.It’s hard to find abnormal cells. B.Many clinics don’t have professional devices.
C.It’s a traditional and backward mnethod. D.Many clinics lack skilled physicians.
34.What can we infer from Peng’s words?
A.He thinks highly of the new AI model. B.The new Al model has been widely used.
C.Inexperienced physicians are no match for the Al model. D.It’s necessary to keep the AI database safe.
35.Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A.AI helps improve accuracy in blood testing. B.New AI models can cure more diseases
C.Much progress has been made in medical treatment D.Physicians will treat patients more quickly and better

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Eva spent the first week of high school trying to keep her head above water. One of the major headaches for her was finding her way in the huge school building. It was a six-story building. On each floor, hallways stretched in four directions, leading to classrooms, laboratories, and teachers’ offices. Somewhere in the building, there was also a library, a cafeteria, and a gym.
Having a poor sense of direction, Eva found it impossible to get around in such a huge building. All the different hallways and rooms were too much to think about, let alone commit to memory. She decided that she would memorize where her classes were and then pretend that the rest of the place didn’t exist.
In her first PE class, Eva was shocked when Coach Pitt announced that everyone had to run one mile around the track outside. She searched the faces of her classmates for signs of panic. There was nothing she feared more than having to run a whole mile. To Eva, “a mile” was used to describe long distances. It was ten miles from her home to her grandfather’s, and that always seemed like a long way, even in a car!
When Coach Pitt blew his whistle (哨子), Eva figured she would be left in the dust. However, while some of her classmates edged ahead, others actually fell behind. ” It’s just the beginning, “she thought.” I’ll come in last for sure. “
Soon Eva began to breathe hard, with her heart pounding and legs shaking. Feeling desperate, Eva started using a mind trick on herself. She stopped thinking about the word” mile. “Instead, she focused on reaching the shadow cast on the track by an oak tree up ahead. Then she concentrated on jogging to the spot where the track curved (拐弯). After that, she tried to see if she could complete her first lap. One lap turned into two, then three, then four.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2, 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1:
When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised.

Paragraph 2:
Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building.

【原文】W: Excuse me, sir, I wonder if you could spare a few minutes to answer some questions.
M: OK, what’s it to do with?
W: I’m representing the airlines which use this airport. There are plans to develop a new terminal in the future. Could I ask you first which country you’ve just flown in from?
M: I’ve been down under Australia to Singapore, but I broke my journey in India and spent two nights there.
W: OK, what about the check in facilities? How long did you have to spend lining up in order to check in
M: Far too long? They tell you to get here at least two hours before your flight leaves. And what happens? You spend almost an hour just standing.
W: What kind of refreshment facilities do you require?
M: Well, it’s a lonely life travelling around, but you can usually find someone to talk to in a cafe or a restaurant. But I don’t think people want big meals when they’re flying, so I think you need something like a snack bar, certainly not a restaurant where you might have to wait ages to be served.
W: Thank you very much, sir.

【答案】28.C 29.B 30.A 31.C

29.细节理解题。由文章第四段“It seems that for millennials ( those born between the early 1980s and late 1990s), typing in this abbreviated (缩写) form is not only time- saving but also stylish. (对于千禧一代(20世纪80年代初至90年代末出生的人)来说,用这种缩写形式打字不仅节省时间,而且时尚。)”可知,千禧年俚语的特点是省时和时尚。故选B项。
30.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段“Her view is backed up by two linguists, Lauren Spradlin, and Taylor Jones, from the City University of New York and the University of Pennsylvania respectively. 31.推理判断题。根据最后一段“‘The ability to break apart syllables and mix different sounds together is key. Totesing is about sounds, and it follows the sometimes- complicated sound system of English,’Jones told The Washington Post. Totesing is not random (随意的). On the contrary, it has strict rules to follow. You need to be very fluent in the English language to be able to understand totes- speak.(Jones告诉《华盛顿邮报》:‘分解音节并将不同声音混合在一起的能力是关键。Totesing是关于声音的,它遵循的是很复杂的英语声音系统。’Totesing不是随机的。相反,它有严格的规则要遵守。你需要非常流利的英语,才能理解他们的语言)”可推知,Taylor Jones可能会认为Totesing要求使用者很好地掌握这门语言的规则。故选C项。

Do less.
This is a trick from Leo Babauta, who started the blog Zen Habits. In his opinion, doing less doesn't mean “less is more”. It means “less is better”. 39 This is achieved by slowing down and concentrating only on those things. Once you do, make every action count. As a result, you'll be creating more value instead of just fodder.
Relax at Appropriate Intervals.
Control your performance over time by taking more pauses. According to Nathaniel Kleitman, a sleep scientist, “our brains naturally desire rest after every 90 minutes of hard activity.” Your mind will let you understand that you require a break when you start to feel sleepy, restless, hungry or lose concentration regardless of whether or not you have such a timer set. 40
Embrace these strategies, adapt them to your specific needs, and reclaim control over your time management. Your future self will thank you for it!

【答案】
Dear Tom,
How is everything going? It’s my great privilege to record a short video about my campus life for your Culture Week. I’m writing to tell you what will be included in the video.
First of all, as a student, taking different classes is my daily routine, so I would like to record a scene focusing on one of my Chinese classes to show my academic life and Chinese culture. In addition, a wide variety of extra-curricular activities are held every day in my school and therefore showing my after-school activities is also in my plan, from which your schoolmates can learn the diversity of Chinese high school life.
I wish such a video could live up to your expectations. If there is anything that needs improving, please don’t hesitate to tell me. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2, 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1:
When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised.

Paragraph 2:
Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised. In the vast expanse of her school, a girl with poor directional skills struggled to navigate and often got lost. One day, during gym class, she observed a unique way to find her way - following the shadows of trees. As the sun cast its rays, the girl noticed how the shadows created patterns on the ground, guiding her path. She took a leap of faith and followed the shadows, surprising herself with each turn and stretch. Her efforts were noticed by the teacher, who praised her innovative thinking.
Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building. She used the shadows to navigate the school hallways, find her classes, and even locate the school's various facilities. This newfound skill not only helped the girl navigate her school but also instilled in her a sense of confidence and adventure. She learned excitedly that with a little creativity and observation, any challenge could be overcome. And with each step she took, she left behind a legacy of inspiration for those who followed in her footsteps, knowing that even without a clear sense of direction, there's always a way to find one's way.
