I have always admired students who hand in their homework on time and never forget to do it. Me on the other hand... OK, I admit. I’m terrible at getting myself organized! But lately I’ve started keeping a small study diary. I write down everything I need to do and when it needs to be done by. Then I write a reminder (提示单) a few days before the date just in case. It’s helping. So I was wondering, what are your tips for getting organized? Post a comment below. I’m hoping we can all share some tips to teach us all better study skills.
Hana: Good question, Amy. I always spend about five minutes at the end of the day tidying up the desktop on my computer. I make a back up of important documents! I delete (删除) things I don’t need any more and put everything into the correct folder (文件夹).
Gloria: The most important thing is to start studying a few weeks before the exams and not leave it until the night before! That’s just common sense, I think.
Lou: Hi, Amy. My tip is to have a big noticeboard in your bedroom, divided into different sections. I’ve got one. It’s a whiteboard. I’ve got a section for each school subject and another one for other stuff. I use pens to write reminders and I make sure to look at it every day. The best part is when I remove something from the board!
31. Which of the following is True?
A. Hana always spends about five minutes tidying up her room.
B. Gloria doesn’t start studying until the night before the exams.
C. Lou advises Amy to use a noticeboard to remind herself.
D. Amy finds keeping a small study diary useless to her.
32. Where can you find the passage?
A. In a magazine. B. On the Internet.
C. In the textbook. D. In the newspaper.
33. What’s the text mainly about?
A. How to keep a study diary. B. How to learn English well.
C. How to improve your memory. D. How to be an organized student.

We chased the monster all day, traveling four hundred kilometers, but it did not tire. That night, the monster lit up again. We let the ship quietly float closer and closer, until at last Ned Land could throw his harpoon. It hit the monster, and the light went out. Then, there was a huge crash, and I (Dr. Aronnax) was thrown into the sea. I sank into the water but soon came back to the surface. I could see the ship, but it was already a long way from me. I swam toward it, calling out, “Help!” My clothes were heavy in the water, and I began to sink. Suddenly, I felt a hand take me back to the surface again. It was Conseil. “Were you thrown into the water, too?” I asked.
“No. I just followed you.”
He was a very faithful servant. He had a knife, and we cut our clothes off and then tried to swim toward the ship. It went further away from us. Perhaps the collision had damaged its steering. We swam for two hours, calling out all the time. At last, we heard another voice and swam to ward it.
Just as I thought I would drown, we were pulled out of the water by a tall, strong man. It was Ned Land! He was standing on the monster! “My harpoon could not hurt this monster,” he said. “It is made of steel!” This was true. I realized that I had been wrong. This was not a giant narwhal (独角鲸). It was a submarine! I could not understand how anybody could have built it, but I could not doubt that it was real. The submarine began to move. We were worried that it might dive. It moved faster and faster. We held on to an iron ring that Ned saw. As it sped through the night, I wondered how it could move so fast. What kind of engine did it have? What kind of people were inside it? When morning came, it began to sink. Ned banged on the steel.
“Open up!” he shouted angrily. The sinking stopped. We heard a noise, and one of the steel plates opened. A man came out and saw us. He was very surprised and went back into the submarine. A few seconds later, eight men came out and pulled us into the submarine.
34. What was the monster?
A. A harpoon. B. A submarine. C. A narwhal. D. A ship.
35. How did Conseil get into the sea?
A. He was thrown into the sea by crash. B. He was thrown into the sea by the monster.
C. He followed Dr. Aronnax into the sea. D. He followed Ned Land into the sea.
36. Why couldn’t Ned Land harpoon the monster?
A. It was made of steel. B. It was sinking quickly.
C. He was too tired and weak. D. He couldn’t see it clearly.
37. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Dr. Aronnax couldn’t swim and sank into the water.
B. The ship didn’t want to take Dr. Aronnax and went further.
C. Dr. Aronnax knew how the submarine moved so fast.
D. There were at least eight men inside the submarine.

Mid-summer is harvest time for the yellow straw (稻草) that grows in Xuhang Town. The straw, however, is not used to feed animals or to put up buildings. ①
② Xuhang is known as the “Town of Straw Plaiting (编织)”. The craft has survived for more than 1,000 years.
It is said that there was once a young woman named Huang. She was about to get married. However, she was poor. She didn’t even have a new pair of shoes to wear. One day, the cows at her home carried some yellow straw in their mouths and placed it in front of her. ③ Huang made the straw into a pair of shoes. She wore the shoes and got married happily. Surprisingly, her shoes became popular. Huang taught the villagers to make the straw shoes and she became known as the “fairy of straw plaiting”.
The modern “fairy of straw plaiting” is Wang Qin. She has been practicing the craft since childhood. After graduating from school, Wang first worked in a tailor’s shop and then in a shoe factory. The factory closed down in 1999. While staying at home, Wang looked for something to do. Her grandfather was the leader of the local straw plaiting group. Taking his advice, the woman carefully studied the ancient craft and chose it as her career. These days, visitors to her workshop are greeted by the pleasant smell of straw. On the first floor, there is an exhibition of Wang’s best artworks. There are handbags, slippers, clocks, vases and covers for tea sets.
④ Every summer, people in Xuhang Town harvest 2,000 kilograms of straw. After drying the straw, craftspeople select those of the best quality of them. The craft mainly uses the “skin” of the straw. The material is then colored and plaited with the help of a mold (模具).
Wang is now in her fifties. She is now trying to make the art form popular among young people. In this way, this local tradition will be alive forever.
38. The passage is mainly about ________.
A. a lady who does straw plaiting B. a straw plaiting workshop
C. the use of straw plaiting D. the story of “fairy of straw plaiting”
39. This sentence “Instead, it is the material for a traditional craft.” can be put in ________.
A. ① B. ② C. ③ D. ④

C. The color of all the straw plaiting works is yellow.
D. Wang Qin carries on the ancient straw plaiting craft.
41. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Old Material, New Craft B. Save the Straw
C. Never the Last Straw D. The Magic of Straw

Recently, the topic about ChatGPT is quite hot. It was released(发布) by a company called OpenAI last year. Is ChatGPT going to change the world? Let’s learn what exactly it is.
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a computer program that can understand and reply to human language. It can be used for things like having a conversation or finishing a sentence. Even this sentence that you are reading now was written by ChatGPT.
That’s right — I asked ChatGPT to write a paragraph including a basic explanation of ChatGPT in simple terms and it came up with that explanation of itself on its own.
What’s amazing is that it seems to be a human in its ability to understand questions and answer them well. “Write a story about Boris Johnson in the style of Roald Dahl,” you can ask it, and it’ll show you a pretty good children’s story. “Write a list of reasons why London is better than New York,” and it’ll explain how London is more historic and has better public transport.
One area where I’ve found it mostly useful is that it can write computer code(代码). Unlike the English language, when you write code, it has to be very exact and carefully structured — but when I asked ChatGPT to write me a program that would put some data into a database(数据库) for me, within seconds it showed something that would have taken me hours to do manually.
____▲_____
It isn’t, however, completely human-like. For example, it sometimes shows things that sound true, but are just nonsense. And it can’t do maths. Though it is better at some tasks than others, its ability to rhyme still needs to be improved.
It doesn’t replace(取代) the human completely, but it does many things quicker. In the same way, it’s easy to imagine in the future every time we write something, we may have an unbelievably smart AI helper helping us get started. So I completely believe that ChatGPT — or something like it — is going to change the world. Our computers will no longer be just a machine, but our partner too. So, maybe now you have to worry about whether you can keep your job.
42. Which of the following is NOT true about ChatGPT?
A. It can write a computer program within several seconds.
B. It is released by a company called OpenAI last year.
C. It’ll replace the human completely in the future in all fields.
D. It’s a computer program that can understand human’s language.
43. How does the writer develop the part of “What is ChatGPT?”?
A. By giving examples. B. By listing numbers.
C. By making charts. D. By asking questions.
44. Which of the following can be the subtitle(小标题) in the ___ ▲____ part?
A. The advantages of ChatGPT B. The limitations of ChatGPT
C. The introductions of ChatGPT D. The purposes of ChatGPT
45. What might the writer continue to write at the end of the passage?
A. The risks ChatGPT brings to our job.
B. The influences ChatGPT has on our bodies.
C. The reasons why we refuse to use ChatGPT.
D. The problems we may face while using ChatGPT.

Time passed. Without Eva, St Clare’s life was empty. But he started to think of Eva’s words about his slaves(奴隶). So one morning he went into town and he started the legal steps necessary for Tom’s emancipation(解放). The next day he called Tom.
“Well, Tom,” he said, “I’m going to make you free, so pack your things, and get ready to leave for Kentucky soon.”
He was upset when he saw the sudden light of joy in Tom’s face. He did not expect Tom to be so ready to leave him.
“Are you so unhappy here? Am I not a good master?” he said. “No, no, Master! You are a good master, but I’m happy because I am a free man.”
“I understand, Tom. You’ll be free in about a month,” said St Clare.
“Do you think that with your work you can earn the clothes and food and the life that I give you every day?”
“No, I don’t, Master is too good, but I prefer to have poor clothes, a poor house, poor everything, but to know that they are mine and not Master’s.”
One day, St Clare went into town alone. While St Clare was walking into town, he saw some drunks fighting, and he tried to stop them. One of the men had a knife. When St Clare tried to take it from him, the drunk killed him.
St Clare’s death made things very dangerous for the slaves. While he was living, they belonged to him, and he treated them kindly. But now they belonged to Marie, and they knew things were going to be very different.
Miss Ophelia treated Tom with respect and kindness, so Tom decided to ask her to help him.
“I will speak for you, Tom, and do my best,” said Miss Ophelia, “but there isn’t much hope.”
“Absolutely not,” was Marie’s answer. “I can sell Tom at the highest price and make a lot of money. Besides, he doesn’t need his freedom. Slaves don’t know what to do with freedom.”

【答案】42. C 43. A 44. B 45. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了什么是ChatGPT,以及它的局限性。
【42题详解】
细节理解题。根据“It doesn’t replace the human completely, but it does many things quicker.”和“So I completely believe that ChatGPT — or something like it — is going to change the world.”
根据小标题“What is ChatGPT?”下的四段可知,先以“ChatGPT is a computer program that can understand and reply to human language.”简单介绍什么是ChatGPT;再分别以写故事和写代码为例,详细说明了什么是ChatGPT。故选A。
根据“Our computers will no longer be just a machine, but our partner too. So, maybe now you have to worry about whether you can keep your job.”可知,我们的电脑将不再只是一台机器,而是我们的合作伙伴,所以,也许现在你不得不担心自己能否保住工作。所以此处描述的是ChatGPT给工作带来的风险,故选A。
