Try thinking of a mother black bear sleeping in her home. You place a baby bear near her, hoping she’ll raise it as one of her own babies. It is a little strange, right? But that’s what some wildlife scientists are doing. Katie Martin is one of them. She studies mother bears with babies. Then, she matches them with baby bears without mums.
To learn more about the baby bears, Martin puts collars (项圈) on them. The collars help her track (追踪) the bears’ movements and gather some important information. Then she can know if foster (代养的) mums look after the poor babies.
Martin usually waits for a rainy, cold day to do the thing. She places a baby bear near the foster mum’s home quietly. The cold air makes the baby cry. When the mother bear hears it, she may pity the baby and bring it home.
“It’s the best way for the baby bears to learn how to be a bear,” Martin said. “The foster mums can teach them how to look for food and climb trees.” Sometimes, people find baby bears alone in the forest and they take them home. Martin said, “That’s the worst thing to do. This is because the mother bear always comes back.”
Martin has helped almost 20 bear babies find foster mums. She checked a baby bear she placed last winter. “It looked good and healthy. That was a true success,” she said.

①To-wit-to-woo, to-wit-to-woo! What’s that strange sound coming from the forest in the moonlight? It’s an owl, of course!
②All day long, seated comfortably on a tree, the owl is sleeping or at least he’s trying to snooze, because it’s sometimes hard to close the eyes with all the sounds made by the little birds and animals in the forest! The owl hunts (捕猎) only at night. When evening comes, the animals all get to a safe place. The owl opens its big, round eyes. Any little animal around had better watch out! The owl mostly eats small animals like mice, but it wouldn’t say no to another bird, if it gets the chance!
③The owl uses its fantastic hearing to find its food, and then it turns its head from side to side, using its sharp eyes to follow the animal. Finally, it flies down to get the animal. Owls have special, soft feathers (羽毛), so they can fly without making any sound. Owls are such good hunters that they can even catch a fly in the air!
④The owl is quiet most of the time, except when you get too close to its home. The owl is a great mother, who will protect her babies by opening her feathers angrily. An owl will even hurt people if she thinks her babies are in danger!
⑤An owl has no teeth, so it eats an animal whole. All the parts of the animal that the owl can’t digest (消化) will end up as small pieces. If you find these small pieces, you know you are near an owl’s home.

We all need a healthy environment, but we produce waster every day and it does harm to our environment. Though we are young, we can still do something to help. Remember these three words; reduce, reuse and recycle.
Reduce means “ use less”. Don’t waste things. This saves money and reduces pollution and waste going into the environment. Before we buy something new, think if it is really necessary or maybe the old one will be just as good! When we do buy thing, choose local products if possible, and try not to buy too many things from abroad.
Reuse mean “ use again”. Use things for as long as possible. When we buy things, make sure that they last a long time. We should take care of them so that they will last, and we should repair them if we can instead of throwing them away and buying new ones. Don’t use a paper cup or a paper bag. It’s better to use a china cup and a lunch box because you can use them again.
Recycle means “ change things into something else”. Although it takes energy to change something into something else, it’s better than throwing things away or burning them. Find out what can be recycled in your neighbourhood and take part in recycling programmes. We should also buy products made from recycled materials, such as recycled paper, to help save trees.

In fact, even the simplest everyday activities can make a real difference to the environment. Here are some ideas for you to live a green life.

【答案】例文
Dear sir and madam,
Recently, there are often reports in the newspaper that people got hurt by the animals in the zoo. Animals are lovely, but sometimes they can be a bit dangerous. So, when you’re watching animals, make sure to keep off them and avoid teasing them. Giving them the wrong food can make them sick or even cause their death. Some foods are not suitable for animals. The zoo will set up feeding areas and provide food for tourists to feed. If you are bitten by animals, please ask for help and go to see the doctor immediately. I think people should learn to respect and care for animals when visiting the zoo.
