This is partly caused by sea animals. They use sound to find what they eat, whom they play with, or which place they move towards. But noise from human activities is increasingly troubling the lives of ocean animals. According to scientists, loud noise may increase mass strandings (大规模搁浅) of sea animals. Researchers recorded only five of these events in the first half of the 20th century. From 1950 to 2004, they recorded more than 1,200 mass strandings. This is perhaps because of the use of sonar (声呐) underwater. Another main reason of loud underwater noise is pile driving (打桩). Piles are supports for bridges, oil and gas producing areas. They’re driven deep into the floor of the ocean. Driving in a single pile can take several hours and as many as 5,000 hits. This process creates a lot of noise. To restrain that noise, some companies are making use of tiny bubbles (气泡). A single bubble is easily broken. However, the bubble wall can make pile driving quieter. The bubble wall is usually created in this way: A tube (管) is placed in a ring around a pile. Air is then let out through closely spaced openings on the tube. When the bubbles rise, they act as walls and take in some of the noise. Some more of the sound reflects (反射) back and becomes stuck inside the wall. Such bubble walls are really helpful. Other changes to pile driving can help as well. For example, people can take breaks in pile driving and let animals travel through. Our noise in the ocean is causing big problems. But small changes in our behavior can make a big difference to animals’ lives in the world’s oceans. 26.What is troubling the lives of ocean animals according to the text? A.The gas produced in the sea. B.The food polluted by humans. C.The noise from human activities. D.The bubble walls made by some companies. 27.Which paragraphs show how humans make changes to pile driving? A.①② B.③④ C.①③ D.②④ 28.What does the underlined word “restrain” in Paragraph 3 mean? A.Control. B.Increase. C.Make. D.Begin. 29.In which part of a magazine can you read the text? A.Culture. B.Health. C.Education. D.Nature. 30.What is the structure (结构) of the text? (P= paragraph) A. B. C. D. C 阅读材料,将小题中五个人所描述的现象与这些现象会引发的问题A—E进行匹配。 31 These days, the temperature in our city goes up as high as 43℃. What a hot summer! 32 Lots of people in my town have bought cars. They think cars can make their life more convenient. 33 People enjoy camping near rivers or takes, but they drop litter everywhere and don’t pick it up before leaving. 34 In some places, people cut down trees to grow crops or raise animals on the land. 35 A new building is being built near our neighborhood. The loud and awful sound produced by those machines drives us crazy. A.Waste should be thrown into bins. Otherwise, it will be buried in the soil and get into waters. Then land pollution and water pollution will be caused. As a result, plants can’t grow well and animals may eat rubbish. Such plants and animals pose (造成) a real risk to people who eat them. B.Noise pollution can cause health problems. For example, loud noises can cause hearing loss. People who live in noisy conditions for a long time may go deaf. They can also influence sleep. Not getting enough sleep makes people tired. Some people even get a headache or serious heart problems because of loud noises. C. The extreme (极度的) heat creates the ideal environment for a wildfire or bushfire. And people use much more water and electricity during the hot weather, which will worsen the shortage of resources (资源). What’s worse, the heat can cause physical harm to people. Sometimes, it can even cause deaths. D.There are different kinds of animals living in the forest. When people cut down trees, they are taking a home away from animals. Besides, without trees, greenhouse gases will increase and the planet will get warmer. This results in extreme weather patterns such as hurricanes (飓风) and droughts (干旱). E. If too many people prefer to drive, a traffic jam (堵塞) can’t be avoided. It will take them much time to get somewhere. And if they are not careful enough, traffic accidents will happen.
