Today, about 50% of people in the world wear glasses. But how much do you know about glasses?
No one knows who made the first set of glasses. However, its sure that they were first made in the 13th Century. Glasses showed up around the same time in northern Italy and in China. Early glasses weren’t made of glass. That’s because much glass at that time was not clear, so it wouldn’t have worked well for glasses.
Eyeglasses didn’t look much like glasses we see now until the 1700s. That’s when people put ear stems (柄) to keep glasses on their faces. Around this time, reading and writing became more popular, so more people needed glasses. Glasses were much more used than before.
Glasses have changed a lot over the years. One big change was bifocals (双焦镜) in 1784. This made glasses help people see things that are both far away and very near. Sunglasses are about as old as eyeglasses. People in China started wearing sunglasses in the 12th Century. Today, many people also wear contact lenses (隐形眼镜). The first contact lenses were not very soft for people to wear. Luckily, today’s lenses are softer and can be worn all day. And some people wear glasses with no lenses at all! This is called fashion glasses. They come in many shapes and sizes to fit anyone’s personal style.

Rules help keep the world in good order. It is common that someone plays music on his or her mobile phone loudly in public places. Sometimes the peaceful environment will be broken when others make noises with their mobile phones. It brings rather terrible experiences and feelings. So some rules have been made to stop such impolite behavior.
When you are in public places, it is hard not to be influenced by others who talk on their mobile phones loudly. The sound of someone’s mobile phone can break the quietness in the library where almost everyone is busy studying or reading books. While sitting in a restaurant, a person who is watching videos loudly may influence your mood (心情) of having dinner. With smart- phone s widely used, the daily environment has also been changed.
With rules made, the public environment will be improved. Some people who break the rules will be punished. Workers in public places will tell them not to do those things. Unless they make a change or stop their bad behavior, the police will come and take them away.
Public places are an environment where everyone can enjoy relaxing feelings. In my opinion, keeping quiet in public is a necessary rule for everybody. When you are in public places, try to consider others’ needs instead of only yours so that we can have a wonderful living environment.
12. What does the underlined word “It” refer to?
A. The peaceful environment. B. The noises from mobile phones.
C. The public transportation. D. The people with mobile phones.
13. What does the second paragraph mainly want to tell us?
A. How to use mobile phones in public. B. How widely mobile phones are used.
C. It’s easy to be influenced by others in public. D. What can influence our mood when we are having dinner.
14. What will happen if someone breaks the rules in public and doesn’t listen to the worker’s advice?
A. He will be taken away by the police. B. He will hand in a lot of money to the police.
C. He will not be allowed to appear in that place. D. He will be asked to say sorry to everyone else.
15. What’s the main purpose of the passage?
A. To tell people not to use their mobile phones often.

Are electric cars good for the Earth? Many of us would probably say “Yes”. But 17-year-old Robert Sansone knows the answer to that question isn’t so simple.
Many people call Sansone a natural-born engineer. It is not surprising if you look at what the boy has done. He has completed over 60 engineering projects in his free time.
Several years ago, Sansone watched a video about how the motors (发动机) of electric cars are made. Most of them use rare-earth metals (稀土金属). These materials are very expensive. Even worse, they are often collected in ways that are harmful to the Earth.
“Is there a green way to make electric motors?” Sansone thought. He had heard of the synchronous reluctance (同步磁阻) motor. This kind of motor does not require rare-earth materials. However, it isn’t strong enough to power a car. Sansone decided to improve its performance.
Over the following year, things didn’t go smoothly. He failed fourteen times before coming up with a working model. The model is about 40 percent more powerful than a traditional one.
Sansone’s efforts paid off. He took part in the science competition with his new motor and he won the first prize.
However, it is far from perfect. There is still a big problem: It is difficult to make. So Sansone has continued to improve his motor.
Many people believe Sansone’s design will become widely used one day. When that day arrives, we will finally be able to say that electric cars are good for the Earth.

【答案】例文
Dear Jack,
I’m very happy to hear that you’re coming to China next week. Let me tell you something about customs and manners in our country.
As we all know, different countries have different customs. So the manners in China are very different from those in your country. First, we Chinese are supposed to shake hands when we meet for the first time. Then we greet each other. After that, you can talk about something relaxing. But you are not supposed to talk about someone’s salary, age and so on. Second, we use chopsticks to have meals while you use knives and forks. And you shouldn’t point at others with your chopsticks at the table. Also, it’s bad manners to talk too much when you’re having meals. I hope you’ll have a wonderful time in China.
Look forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

This takes place when someone turns the age of twenty-one, which means the birthday girl or boy officially become adults.
In Norway, the birthday child dance with a friend in front of their class, while the others sing a happy birthday song.
8. What can we learn from the second paragraph?
A. What early glasses were made of. B. How early glasses were created.
C. Who made the first set of glasses. D. When glasses were first made.
9. What might have made glasses more common in the 1700s?
A. Wearing glasses made people look much better.
B. More and more people liked reading and writing.

D. Glasses were much clearer with the help of eye doctors.
10. How many kinds of glasses are mentioned in the fourth paragraph?
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.
11. What is the best title for the text?
A. How Did Eyeglasses Develop? B. Why Do People Like Glasses?
C. What Kind of Glasses Suits You? D. When To Wear Eyeglasses?
(D)
A How to use mobile phones in public.
B. To show rules are good ways to control some bad behavior.
C. To show we need stricter rules to keep our society well-organized.
D. To encourage people to create a wonderful public living environment.

第一节 阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)

41. Why is Sansone called a natural-born engineer?

42. In the video, what are the motors of electric cars made of?
