Wooden houses surrounded by a thick forest, classical music playing softly in the background, a very special cafe, three meals a day and several outdoor activity areas. This sounds like a dream vacation arrangement (安排). But this is not a place for people. It’s for cats in the province of Samsun, Türkiye.
Kedi Kasabas, or “cat town”, is one interesting place in the country, a place where cats can experience what real comfort is!
The town, which covers an area of around 20 acres, is run by the local city and most admitted guests have a hard backstory. “All cats here are homeless and usually go through suffering s before being brought here. They are either injured or mentally suffer. We treat them and put them back into the town. The environment here is really beautiful for them,” Faruk Kan, a Kedi Kasabas vet, said.
Kan is not the only vet working at the shelter. There’s a whole team looking after the cats and making sure all their needs are met. The place even has a special area for sick or injured cats, where they receive personalized (个性化的) treatment.
There are currently 150 animals living in “cat town”, and the number keeps rising. There are wooden houses where they can rest, and also houses designed for socializing. During the winter they are provided with heated accommodation, so feeling convenient and warm is a sure thing for these furry creatures.
The love for cats seems to be a Turkish favourite. Istanbul is known for being home to several hundred thousand cats. There, people take care of street cats like kings. The four-legged friends are fed and kept healthy and they have already become part of the city view.
Even though cats may have a happy life outdoors in the forest or wandering around in the city streets, there’s nothing like having a stable (稳定的) home, lying next to a human friend.
24. What can be learned about “cat town”?
A. It is quite difficult to reach. B. It is peaceful and comfortable.
C. It is very expensive to run. D. It serves special coffee to visitors.
25. What does the underlined word “guests” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Cats. B. Visitors. C. Workers. D. Volunteers.
26. What do we know about the cats in “cat town”?
A. They are thrown by their owners. B. They came from pet lovers.
C. They are friendly to humans. D. They used to suffer a lot.
27. Which does the author think is the best place for a cat probably?
A. The forest. B. The city streets.
C. A human’s home. D. A pet hospital.
B 25. A 26. D 27. C

根据第一段对猫城的形容“Wooden houses surrounded by a thick forest, classical music playing softly in the background, a very special cafe, three meals a day and several outdoor activity areas. This sounds like a dream vacation arrangement (安排). (木屋被茂密的森林包围,古典音乐在背景中轻柔地播放,一个非常特别的咖啡馆,一日三餐和几个户外活动区域。这听起来像是一个梦幻般的假期安排)”可知,猫城的环境是幽静而舒适的。故选B。
【25题详解】
词义猜测题。根据第三段划线词后“All cats here are homeless and usually go through suffering s before being brought here. (这里所有的猫都是无家可归的,通常在被带到这里之前都会经历痛苦)”可知,后文详细介绍这里的猫的情况,由此推出guests指的是被收留的猫。故选A。
根据第三段Faruk Kan 所说的话“All cats here are homeless and usually go through suffering s before being brought here. They are either injured or mentally suffer. (这里所有的猫都是无家可归的,通常在被带到这里之前都会经历痛苦。他们要么身体上受伤,要么精神上受到折磨)”可知,这里的猫曾经身体或精神上受到了伤害。故选D。
【27题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段的内容“Even though cats may have a happy life outdoors in the forest or wandering around in the city streets, there’s nothing like having a stable (稳定的) home, lying next to a human friend. (尽管猫可能在森林里过着快乐的户外生活,或者在城市的街道上游荡,但没有什么能比得上有一个稳定的家,躺在人类朋友身边)”可知。作者强调猫咪还是要有一个稳定的家,有人类陪伴是最好的,即猫的最好的归宿是在人类的家里。故选C。

Workers continue to search the ruins of a large earthquake that hit Morocco Friday. Officials say almost 2,500 were killed in the quake, but that they expect that number will rise. The United Nations said the magnitude 6.8 earthquake affected 300,000 people. The damage (损失) was great because the starting point of the shaking was not far below the ground.
It is the strongest quake to hit the North African nation since 1900. And, it is reported to be the country’s deadliest since 1960, when at least 12,000 people were killed in and near the city of Agadir.
So far, Morocco has accepted support from four countries — Spain, Qatar, Great Britain and the United Arab Emirates. Other nations have offered help as well. Groups from the Moroccan army left Monday from Amizmiz to move into the small mountain villages. Heavy equipment was sent to clear the roads and both visitors and local people lined up to give blood.
Many people continued to sleep outside, fearing smaller earthquakes that often follow a major one. In the village of Imgdal, women and children gathered outside and some kept warm around an open fire on Monday morning.
On a road near the town of Adassil, near the epicenter (震中), one rescue (救援) worker, Ayman Koait, was trying to clear the rocks that were restraining trucks from getting by. He said other roads were in bad shape. “We’re trying to open them, too,” said Ayman Koait.
People said they dug through the ruins of their homes looking for relatives. They also moved rocks and walls looking for important items.
Many of the homes are made from wood, rock and mud, which made them fall easily when the ground started shaking. One military (军方的) worker said “it is difficult to pull people out alive” because the walls turned into ruins and did not leave any space for air.
28. Why was the earthquake so serious?
A. It happened close to the ground. B. It broke out at midnight.
C. Rescue was not timely enough. D. There was no proper protection.
29. Why did the local people keep staying outside after the earthquake?
A. To receive supplies. B. To get ready for leaving for other towns.
C. To avoid possible following ones. D. To keep themselves warm around open fires.
30. What does the underlined word “restraining” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Guiding. B. Preventing. C. Repairing. D. Supporting.
31. Why did the military worker think the rescue was almost hopeless?
A. The villages are out of reach.
B. The roads were badly damaged.
C. The damaged areas are too close to the epicenter.
D. The special houses made it hard for people to be alive.
A 29. C 30. B 31. D
根据第一段中“The damage (损失) was great because the starting point of the shaking was not far below the ground. (破坏是巨大的,因为震源离地面不远)”可知,地震严重是因为震源靠近地面。故选A项。
根据第四段中的“Many people continued to sleep outside, fearing smaller earthquakes that often follow a major one. (许多人继续睡在外面,担心大地震之后会发生小地震)”可知,地震后许多当地人继续睡在外面是为了避免之后可能会发生的小地震。故选C项。
【30题详解】
词句猜测题。根据画线词的前文“On a road near the town of Adassil, near the epicenter (震中), one rescue (救援) worker, Ayman Koait, was trying to clear the rocks (在靠近震中的Adassil镇附近的一条路上,救援人员Ayman Koait正试图清理岩石)”和后文“trucks from getting by (卡车无法通行)”可推知,地震救援人员清理岩石的目的应该是让卡车可以通过道路。
根据最后一段“Many of the homes are made from wood, rock and mud, which made them fall easily when the ground started shaking. One military (军方的) worker said “it is difficult to pull people out alive” because the walls turned into ruins and did not leave any space for air. (许多房屋是用木头、岩石和泥土建造的,这使得它们在地面开始震动时很容易倒塌。一名军方工作人员说,“很难把人活着救出来”,因为墙壁变成了废墟,没有给空气留下任何空间)”可知,军方工作人员认为救援无望是因为特殊的房屋构造让人们很难存活下来。故选D项。
D
The 37-year-old artist, Kelly McKernan, from Nashville, Tennessee calls her works “surreal (超现实的)”. She says they are “dealing with discomfort in the human journey”. Living as an artist is difficult enough. Now McKernan faces another challenge: artificial intelligence (AI).
About a year ago, McKernan began seeing online images (图像) strangely similar to her own. She soon learned that companies were feeding artwork into AI systems to train software programs to create similar images. McKernan said, “I didn’t give my agreement for my name or works to be used this way.”
McKernan said she even tried to contact some of the companies to say “Hey, little artist here, I know you’re not thinking of me at all, but it would be really cool if you didn’t use my work like this.” But there was no answer.
In January, McKernan, and two other artists, Karla Ortiz and Sarah Andersen, started action by law against three image-generator companies: Stability AI, Stable Diffusion and Midjourney. They also included the online gallery DeviantArt in the case.
The artists are seeking to protect their copyrighted works and their careers. They say the AI image-generators violate (侵犯) the rights of millions of artists by using their artworks for training and then producing similar works that compete against the originals (原作). The artists are seeking damages and a court order to stop AI companies from using their works without being allowed.
Karla Ortiz works in the entertainment industry. Her work has been used in several well-known movies, including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Jurassic World. She feared that film companies would think artworks from artists cost too much. Why, she asked, would film companies buy artworks from artists if they can pay $30 a month for AI-created works?
McKernan agreed: “Will I even have any work a year from now?”
32. What troubles artist Kelly McKernan?
A. The great similarity in her works.
B. The competition among the artists.
C. Her works being recreated without her agreement.
D. Her customers’ increasingly high requirements.
33. How were McKernan’s words dealt with by some of the companies in paragraph 3?
A. They were treated properly. B. They were given timely attention.
C. They were regarded as impolite. D. They were answered with silence.
34. What may make film companies use AI-created works according to Karla Ortiz?
A. Their low prices. B. Their better quality.
C. Their higher safety. D. Their good service.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. Human Artists Lose Their Jobs B. Artists Fight Back Against AI
C. Artworks Can Be Created by AI D. Artists Should Accept AI Works
C 33. D 34. A 35. B
根据第二段“About a year ago, McKernan began seeing online images(图像) strangely similar to her own. She soon learned that companies were feeding artwork into AI systems to train software programs to create similar images. McKernan said, ‘I didn’t give my agreement for my name or works to be used this way’(大约一年前,McKernan开始在网上看到与自己的画相似的奇怪图片。她很快了解到有公司正在将艺术作品输入人工智能系统,以训练软件程序来创造类似的图像。McKernan说:‘我没有同意这样使用我的名字或作品。’)”可知,McKernan在网上看到与自己绘画作品相似的图,一些公司将艺术作品输入人工智能系统,从而训练软件程序创造风格类似的画,但McKernan并没有允许他们这么做。由此可推测出,她感到困扰的是她的作品未经她的允许而被复制。故选C。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“McKernan said she even tried to contact some of the companies to say ‘Hey, little artist here, I know you’re not thinking of me at all, but it would be really cool if you didn’t use my work like this.’ But there was no answer.(McKernan说,她甚至试图联系一些公司说:‘嘿,这里的小艺术家,我知道你根本没有想到我,但如果你不这样使用我的作品,那就太酷了。’但是没有得到答复)”可知,她给一些公司联系并反映自己的意见,但没有得到回复,故选D。
【34题详解】
推理判断题。根据第六段的“She feared that film companies would think artworks from artists cost too much. Why, she asked, would film companies buy artworks from artists if they can pay $30 a month for AI-created works?(她担心电影公司会认为使用艺术家作品的费用太高。她问道,如果电影公司可以每月支付30美元购买人工智能创作的作品,为什么还要买艺术家的艺术作品呢?)”可知,Karla Ortiz认为,艺术家的作品花费多,如果能花30美元买人工智能创作的作品,可能就没有电影公司园艺花大价钱买艺术家的作品。由此可推测出,人工智能创作的作品价格低廉,这是电影公司可能使用它们的原因。故选A。
通读全文,尤其是根据第四段的“In January, McKernan, and two other artists, Karla Ortiz and Sarah Andersen, started action by law against three image-generator companies(1月份,McKernan和另外两位艺术家Karla Ortiz和Sarah Andersen开始对三家图像生成公司采取法律行动)”和第五段的“The artists are seeking to protect their copyrighted works and their careers.(艺术家们正在寻求保护他们的版权作品和他们的事业)”可知,文章主要谈论的是画家Kelly McKernan联合另外两位画家对三家图像生成公司提出诉讼,以此来捍卫自己被人工智能图像生成器侵犯的权益。
How to Help Your Garden Get Through the Heat
Record-breaking heat is affecting plants in many places around the world. But gardening expert Jessica Damiano says selecting the right plants and a little care could save them.
Damiano says that in serious heat, and when that heat is dry, the soil loses water in it quickly. ____36____ This requires them to use energy to cool down and use water. This energy should be spent on growth, flowering, fruiting and reproducing. The stress often completely weakens the plant.
____37____ These systems allow the plants to reach distant sources of wetness when the nearby area dries out.
Many foreign plants, including most plants that live for just one year, have root systems that are not deep. This means they must depend on the top few centimeters of soil for all of their water needs. ____38____
Planting advice
When planting, Damiano says she always covers root balls with fungi (真菌) called mycorrhizae. It helps roots grow and helps plants deal with high temperature. She also treats her plants once a month with two materials: a seaweed-containing fish mixture and a vitamin—hormone—kelp material.
Seaweed and kelp are plants that grow in water. ____39____ These materials also help plants grow quickly after dividing and planting.
Finally, Damiano says the last addition is a good deal of covering on top. Covering not only keeps things looking clean, but it also helps to keep soil wetness and soil temperatures even. ____40____ Covering can mean the difference between life and death when it gets hot.
A. When the top soil dries up, so do they.
B. Study which plants are native to your area.
C. And it also keeps unwanted plants from growing.
D. She has watered her flower garden just two times this summer.
E. They have been proved to help other plants in difficult environments.
F. Plants will turn to their own limited water storing when they need water.
G. When plants are native to an area, they naturally develop deep, large root systems.
F 37. G 38. A 39. E 40. C

根据前句“Damiano says that in serious heat, and when that heat is dry, the soil loses water in it quickly. (Damiano说,在极端高温下,当高温干燥时,土壤中的水分会迅速流失。)”可知,此处承接上文,土壤中的水分流失,当植物需要水的时候所采取的措施。所以选择项F“Plants will turn to their own limited water storing when they need water. (当植物需要水的时候,它们会利用自己有限的储水能力。)”符合上下文语境。故选F。
【37题详解】
根据后句“These systems allow the plants to reach distant sources of wetness when the nearby area dries out. (当附近地区干旱时,这些根系使植物能够到达远处的湿气来源。)”可知,这里谈论的是本地植物的内容。G项中的“systems”与空后的“These systems”相呼应。所以选择项G“When plants are native to an area, they naturally develop deep, large root systems.(当植物是一个地区的原生植物时,它们自然会发展出又深又大的根系。)”
根据前句“This means they must depend on the top few centimeters of soil for all of their water needs. (这意味着它们必须依靠顶部几厘米的土壤来满足它们所有的水需求。)”可知,此处承接上文,继续说明土壤干涸时,植物所带来的后果。所以选择项A“When the top soil dries up, so do they.(当表层土壤干涸时,它们也会干涸。)” 故选A。
根据后句“These materials also help plants grow quickly after dividing and planting.(这些材料也有助于植物在分种和播种后快速生长。)” E“They have been proved to help other plants in difficult environments.(它们已被证明能在困难的环境中帮助其他植物。)”
根据前句“Covering not only keeps things looking clean, but it also helps to keep soil wetness and soil temperatures even.(覆盖不仅让东西看起来干净,而且还有助于保持土壤湿润和土壤温度稳定。)” C“And it also keeps unwanted plants from growing.(它还可以防止不需要的植物生长。)”

故填is made。
故填is。
此处考查“it takes +时间+to do sth”,所以填to produce。故填to produce。
由前面的the和空后的of all colors 得出,此处应用形容词的最高级best。
此处考查固定短语 be popular with/among表示“在......中流行”。故填with/among。
故填that/which。
故填a。
故填its。

My name is Bronson Layton. I am 23 years old, I am a college student, and I have a story that I feel should be shared with the world.
I come from a family that had never had a single record of ancestry with autism (自闭症), until the day I was born. When I was two years old, my parents were still getting used to the lifestyle of raising a normal kid, but what they had noticed was what they considered “out of the ordinary” behavior. Whatever toys I played with, I placed them in a straight line. When I was not satisfied, I got angry easily.
Soon after my parents noticed these signs, they took me to a child expert, who eventually informed them that I was diagnosed (诊断) with a type of autism, a disorder that delays the nervous growth of a child’s brain.
My diagnosis was in 1999, a time when autism was still not commonly understood and was still being observed. At first, my parents were shocked at the news from an expert that I was going to grow up blind, but they (and I) were not prepared for how the following events would completely change our lives forever.
As I got older, I began to change from keeping myself alone to getting with other kids once I entered public school in first grade. I noticed how the other kids were able to answer questions in class a lot faster than I could understand. Because of my slow thinking, it took me two minutes to come up with an answer. From that year on, I received special accommodations for my studies, such as sitting in front of the class to read the blackboard better, and taking longer time on tests.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

What benefited me most was that the teacher let me attend the school summer camp, and I fully integrated into the society.
Thanks to my classmates, I made great changes. In class, I could answer the teacher’s questions correctly and quickly. I no longer felt lonely and I became active and cheerful. I would warmly greet my classmates when I met them. And I made a lot of good friends. I also participated in various activities in school, such as playing basketball and football.

On a road near the town of Adassil near the epicenter (震中), one rescue (救援) worker, Ayman Koait, was trying to clear the rocks that were restraining trucks from getting by.
30 What does the underlined word “restraining” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Guiding. B. Preventing. C. Repairing. D. Supporting.
31. Why did the military worker think the rescue was almost hopeless?
A. The villages are out of reach.
B. The roads were badly damaged.
C. The damaged areas are too close to the epicenter.
D. The special houses made it hard for people to be alive.

A Their low prices. B. Their better quality.
C. Their higher safety. D. Their good service.
35. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A. Human Artists Lose Their Jobs B. Artists Fight Back Against AI
C. Artworks Can Be Created by AI D. Artists Should Accept AI Works
