B Most people who ran the marathon last month spent days before resting up and days after recovering. But not Jacky Hunt-Broersma. In total, she ran 104 marathons in 104 days. If it’s confirmed by Guinness World Records, that would be a new world record. And she did it all with one leg and a prosthesis (假肢). “Someone able-bodied had done it previously. I wanted to see if I could do it on a prosthetic leg and see what would happen,” she said. “I thought it would be a great way to inspire others to push their limits because I truly believe that we’re stronger than what we think. And I’ve been so pleasantly surprised that my body is held up, everything is held up and I’ve made it to 104.” She actually did not pick up the sport until after she lost the lower part of her left leg in 2001 to a type of cancer called Ewing sarcoma. Runners using a prosthetic leg can’t use a regular one. They need a running blade (刀锋式跑步义肢). Hunt-Broersma has two, but she was only able to run with one because of the swelling she experienced in her left leg that made it impossible to connect to the other blade. But even with the pain that occurred, she has been able to put up with it and continued. All together, Hunt-Broersma ran over 4, 385 kilometers. During that time she has had a lot of time to think and has learned a few things about herself. “It has taught me how strong one can be and how important absolute determination is. If you’re mentally strong, you can do anything,” she said. “And our bodies are just amazing...This whole journey was impressive and super hard, but it’s told me how strong I can be as a person and how far I can push myself.” 4. Why did Hunt-Broersma decide to run marathons? A. She wanted to set a new record. B. She intended to challenge herself. C. She was driven by her interest. D. She was inspired by people like her. 5. What difficulty did Hunt-Broersma meet with? A. She didn’t get professional training. B. She found it hard to keep her balance. C. She suffered discomfort in her left leg. D. She couldn’t use regular running blades. 6. What message does the author express through the story? A. Rome wasn’t built in a day. B. Time works wonders. C. A good beginning is half the battle. D. Nothing is impossible to a willing heart. 7. What may be the author’s attitude towards Hunt-Broersma? A. Annoyed. B. Concerned C. Admiring. D. Humorous. C China has set new rules limiting the amount of time children can spend playing online games. The rules limit children to just three hours of online game playing a week. That is one hour between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday most weeks. Li Zhanguo has two children aged 4 and 8. Even though they do not have smartphones, they enjoy playing online games. Like many other parents. Li is happy with new government rules. But experts say it is unclear if such policies can help prevent addiction to online games. Children might just get addicted to social media instead. In the end, experts say, parents should be the ones to set limits and support good practice. There has been a growing concern in China about gaming addiction among children. Government reports in 2018 found that about one in ten Chinese children were addicted to the Internet. The new rules are part of an effort to prevent young people from spending too much time on unhealthy entertainment. That includes what officials call the “irrational fan culture” Under the new rules, the responsibility for making sure children play only three hours a day falls largely on Chinese gaming companies like Net Ease and Ten cent. Companies have set up real-name registration systems to prevent young users from going past game time limits. They have used facial recognition technology to check their identities. And they have also set up a program that permits people to report what is against the law. It is unclear what punishments gaming companies may face if they do not carry out the policies. And even if such policies are performed, it is also unclear whether they can prevent online addiction. A specialist treating Internet addiction expects about 20 percent of children will find ways to break the rules by borrowing accounts of their older relatives and find a way around facial recognition. In his opinion, short-video alps such as Douyin and Kuaishou are also very popular in China. They are not under the same restrictions as games. 8. When can children play games according to the new rules? A. Between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. On Friday. B. Between 8 p. m. and 9 p.m. On Tuesday. C. Between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. On Saturday. D. Between 10 p. m. and 11 p.m. On Thursday. 9. According to experts, _________ A. the new rules can stop children’s addiction to social media B. companies are more responsible for kids ‘ obeying the rules C. the new rules will help prevent children playing online games D. parents play a greater part in limiting the time of online games 10. What will children probably do to battle with the new rules? A. Design an advanced program. B. Use facial recognition systems. C. Set up real-name registration systems. D. Borrow accounts of their older relatives. 11. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A. Rules Limiting Short-video apps B. Rules Limiting Video Game Time C. Rules Banning Irrational Fan Culture D. Rules Breaking Addiction to Social Media D Grizzly bears have all but disappeared from the continental United States. But there's one place where the bears are making a comeback in and around Yellowstone National Park. By 1975, the grizzly population had dropped below 140. Forty-one years later, that number has increased to about 700. U.S. officials suggest it's time to remove them from the endangered species list.“The bears are occupying all suitable habitat,” Michael Thabault, of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, said.“This tells us the population is fixed.” Scientists argue that the bears still face many challenges in the wild. The loss of important food sources is one. Trout and elk, both favorite grizzly foods, are dwindling. According to Thabault, the bears are adaptable and will eat whatever foods are available in order to survive. The biggest worry for scientists is that grizzlies will be hunted once protections are removed. The bears will remain protected within Yellowstone National Park, but nearby states—Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho—plan to allow hunting. “States want to manage their own wildlife and not have the federal government tell them how to do it,”says Andrea Santarsiere. She' s a lawyer for the Center for Biological Diversity, a group that protects animals. She says the government should recover historic bear habitat before even thinking about delisting. The decision on delisting grizzlies in the Yellowstone area could be announced by mid-November. States are creating a protection plan in case that they gain control over the bears' management. Biologist Kerry Gunther, of the National Park Service, believes grizzlies are ready for delisting. But he admits that the bears' lives depend on the strength of each state's plan. “The recovery of this symbol of the wilderness is a success story,” he says. Whether or not that story has a happy ending will depend on what happens next. 12. The numbers mentioned in Paragraph 1 show that________. A. grizzly bears have returned B. there will be more national parks C. governments should save more bears D. grizzlies have become endangered animals 13. What is the biggest threat to grizzlies according to the scientists? A. Food shortage. B. The pollution. C. Human beings. D. Their natural enemies. 14. What does Santarsiere say about delisting grizzlies? A. It is useless. B. It is unacceptable. C. It has a bright future. D. It should be done immediately. 15. What does Gunther agree with? A. Delisting has a happy ending. B. States should make plans for parks. C. Grizzlies need more time to survive in the wild. D. Sates play an important role in protecting grizzlies. 第二节 阅读 七选五(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Food waste is a major issue in agriculture and in homes. She had lived in the same house for over 50 years and knew almost everyone in the neighborhood. She especially liked the teenagers who lived next door, a group of kids who always seemed to be up to something. One day, Mrs. Johnson noticed that the kids seemed to be going through a tough time. They were skipping school, getting into trouble, and seemed lost and directionless. Mrs. Johnson knew that something needed to be done to help these kids, so she decided to take action. The first thing she did was to invite the kids over for cookies and drinks. They were hesitant at first, but Mrs. Johnson’s warm smile and kind words quickly put them at ease. Over the course of the afternoon, she listened carefully as the kids shared their hopes and dreams, their fears and frustrations. She didn’t judge them or lecture them, but simply offered a listening ea r and a shoulder to lean on. As the weeks went by, Mrs. Johnson continued to reach out to the kids. She would invite them over for dinner or take them on outings to the park, the library, or the movies. She would encourage them to talk about their interests and talents, and help them find their passions, set goals, and pursue their dreams. Mrs. Johnson became a guiding light for the neighborhood kids. One of the kids, a boy named David, was particularly talented in music. He had a natural gift for playing the guitar and writing songs, but had never been given the chance to pursue his passion. Mrs. Johnson knew that David’s genius for music was too great to go unnoticed, so she took it upon herself to help David find a way to share his talent with the world. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Mrs. Johnson contacted the community center and arranged for David to perform at a show. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After the show, David was full of joy and excitement. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 安庆九一六学校2023—2024学年第二学期5月调研考 高一英语期中试卷 本试卷分为第Ⅰ卷(选择题)和第Ⅱ卷(非选择题)两部分,满分150分,考试时间120分钟。 1.
