It began with a fondness for Garfield and his adventures, and led to the discovery of a range of comic books like Champak and Archie.(我对漫画世界的初步探索,始于报纸上的连环漫画。 根据划线单词所在语境“Having grown up on a diet of image-heavy books, I regarded diving into all-text novels as a formidable undertaking. Another major hurdle is access to real-world data needed to improve algorithms and the user experience. To improve algorithms and user experiences, companies need large volumes of real-world training data, according to Ji Junjie, an algorithm specialist. “We have limited opportunities to enter seniors’ homes or eldercare facilities,” Ji said. The high prices of many eldercare robots represent another significant barrier, as they are well beyond the reach of most households. 根据最后一段“As China advances AI and robotics, these innovations may significantly support healthy aging and improve life for millions of older adults. 32. My legs began to ache, and my breath came in short bursts as the path became more uneven, with loose rocks and roots tripping me up. At times, I questioned whether I could keep going. Despite the fact that my mind tried to convince me to stop and turn back, my resolution was stronger now. The disappointed expression of the brother we encountered etched in my mind, driving me to clench my teeth to persevere.Every time my legs protested, I reminded myself that with each step, I was growing stronger, both physically and mentally. Finally, after hours of hard work, we made it to the top. The view that greeted us was beyond anything I had imagined. The hidden lake sparkled beneath the clear blue sky, surrounded by towering trees. The sense of accomplishment was overwhelmed. I stood there, taking in the breathtaking scenery. My brother smiled at me, his eyes reflecting pride and joy. It was at that moment that I realized the journey had been just as important as the destination. The hike had tested me in ways I didn't expect, but it had also shown me how much I was capable of.Together, we had made it, and it felt like a true triumph. (Text 1) W: Are you coming to the basketball game after school? The team is playing against Lincoln High. M: I’d love to, but I promised Mr. Thompson I’d help set up the art exhibition in the gym. (Text 2) M: Excuse me, how much are these trainers? I saw them for £80 last week. W: The price went up to £100, but members get 30% off today. Are you a member? M: Yes, here’s my card. (Text 3) M: Did you have a good weekend? W: Yes, it was my sister’s birthday, and we invited her friends over and cooked a big meal. (Text 4) M: This is my first time flying, so I’d like to look out of the window. W: It’s nice being up in the clouds looking down at the small cars and houses. (Text 5) W: So how did your presentation go? M: Well, judging by the number of people there, I picked the right topic. All that practicing in front of the mirror paid off. (Text 6) M: Are you feeling tired? W: No, I’m fine. Just stopped to look at the mountain scenery. It’s beautiful, isn’t it? M: Wonderful. But let’s keep moving. It’s too cold to stand still. W: Well, we knew that when we set off. The forecast’s better for tomorrow. I did say we should wait. M: Sorry, I know, but let’s carry on because there’s only another 5 km to go. Right or left here? W: Left, I think, according to the map. You said 5 km — it’ll be just about dark when we get to the end. (Text 7) W: Yesterday was so embarrassing! I saw this man in the street. M: And? What happened? Should we plan one for Friday, after work? M: Friday works for me. I will send an email out right away. (Text 9) W: Hi, Mark. I heard you got back from your exchange program in Germany. How was it? M: Amazing, but exhausting. The first month was tough — I couldn’t follow lectures in German and missed home a lot. There were nights I almost booked a flight back, especially after failing my first presentation. W: So what changed? M: I joined a local walking club. The members spoke slowly and clearly, and we spent weekends exploring the Black Forest. My German improved without me noticing. W: That’s clever. Any cultural shocks? M: Shops close at 6 p.m. on Saturdays! I kept running out of groceries. I once stood outside a supermarket for twenty minutes, not realizing it had shut for the weekend. W: Sounds like you adapted, though. M: Mostly. W: So, would you recommend the program? M: Absolutely. Just pack patience and comfortable shoes. (Text 10) M: Good morning, everyone. I’m David Chen from City Hearts, and I’m here to share how ordinary people are changing lives in our community. Three years ago, we started a simple program called Lunch Buddies. The idea came from Mrs. Patterson, a retired teacher who noticed children couldn’t get proper meals during school holidays. She began making sandwiches in her kitchen for twelve kids on her street. Today, Lunch Buddies serves over 800 meals every weekday across seventeen neighborhoods. But food is just the beginning. Our volunteers — mostly seniors and university students — don’t just drop off meals. They sit down, talk, and listen. Last month, a volunteer named Tom noticed a boy struggling with reading. It began with a fondness for Garfield and his adventures, and led to the discovery of a range of comic books like Champak and Archie. While my access to comics as a child was limited to what was printed in the newspaper, this changed once I grew older and started visiting bookstores to buy the books that I wanted to read. Having grown up on a diet of image-heavy books, I regarded diving into all-text novels as a formidable undertaking. As I searched for books that lay somewhere in between, I came across a copy of Bhimayana — a graphic novel. It felt familiar due to its comic-like theme and design. Plus, understanding complex narratives through pictures was relatively easier and more fun. Growing older, I found myself graduating to graphic novels from childish comic books. They deal with serious topics in a more engaging manner and literally show me what was going on. Fast-forward a few years to when I was given a copy of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. While I was impressed by the compelling (扣人心弦的) nature of storytelling in his novel, I am not sure if I would have been able to visualize and enjoy his text-only version so much had I not read Charles Dixon’s The Hobbit first. Thanks to Charles Dixon, I had a picture of whatever had happened, and that made it easier and more fun to understand J.R.R. Tolkien’s version. From black and white strips to illustrated graphic novels, this transformation has come a long way. While my romance with books is still ongoing, in the long run, my love for illustrated novels is more substantial and here to stay. 24. What can we learn about the author as a little kid? A. He mined newspapers for knowledge. B. Comics struck him as shallow. C. He cared little for book categories. D. Comics were his main reading joy. 25. What does the underlined word “formidable” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Discouraging. B. Rewarding. C. Entertaining. D. Enlightening. 26. What can be inferred about Charles Dixon’s The Hobbit? A. It contains rich visual material. B. It presents a complicated plot. C. It focuses on the latest news. D. It shapes Tolkien’s writing style. 27. What could be the best title for the text? A. Welcome to the World of Literature B. Can’t Get Enough of Graphic Novels C. Let Comic Books Shape Who I Am D. Find Myself through Reading Novels C At a rehabilitation center in Beijing, a 76-year-old man who once relied on a caregiver can now walk independently with the help of a robotic exoskeleton that learns his movement patterns. Such technologies, once considered science fiction, are becoming more common as China responds to the needs of its fast-aging population. The eldercare robot industry is expanding quickly. Provinces such as Beijing and Jiangsu have released political plans encouraging the adoption of intelligent robots in institutions and households. China has also led the creation of an international technical standard for eldercare robots, setting requirements for design and safety. Moreover, with over 310 million Chinese aged 60 or above, many seniors need support with mobility, daily activities, or emotional companionship. Robotics companies report increased inquiries as families search for reliable solutions for aging relatives. While eldercare robots are still in the early stages of development compared to industrial robots, some users are already beginning to enjoy the convenience these technologies provide. Nursing homes in tech-centered cities like Shenzhen integrate robots that play chess with residents, provide mobility support, and deliver AI-assisted therapy. Experts say eldercare robots still face multiple obstacles before they can be deployed on a large scale. On the consumer side, some seniors remain skeptical. “Robots are too cold and emotionless. I just can’t accept them,” said Qu Suling, a 66-year-old resident. “If a machine malfunctions, it could hurt me,” she added. Experts argue that breakthroughs in core technology, affordability, and data access are essential for eldercare robots to realize their potential. As China advances AI and robotics, these innovations may significantly support healthy aging and improve life for millions of older adults. 28. Which major factor contributes to the rapid development of eldercare robots in China? A. A decline in traditional medical services. B. Policy support and rising demand. C. Financial investment in eldercare centers. D. Joint efforts made by many provinces. 29. Which is NOT the barrier to the large-scale application of eldercare robots? A. Insufficient access to real-life usage. B. High prices which are unaffordable. C. Lack of promotion from high-tech firms. D. Distrust and hesitation from the elderly. 30. What can be inferred about the future of eldercare robots? A. They will replace human caregivers in the short term. B. Their development will slow down as prices increase. C. They may be more popular with younger population. D. They can greatly improve the lives of older adults. 31. Which is a suitable title for the text? A. High-Technology is Used in Medical Care B. The Elderly Weigh the Use of Elderly Robots C. Robotics Elderly Expands with Aging Population D. An Old Man Benefits from Elderly Robot Industry D From TikTok to Google Images, visual content is dominating the digital world. This flood of images isn’t just changing how we consume information — it reflects and reinforces how we see ourselves, including our gender stereotypes In a first-of-its-kind study, Guilbeault looked at how gender bias is conveyed in online images versus text and how this influences users. To test how these associations might reinforce gender stereotypes, the researchers recruited some volunteers. They were given 22 occupations and were asked to find either descriptions or images of them online. They were then asked which gender they associated most with the occupation. Biased associations were “statistically more extreme” in the images. It was also found that their gender bias intensified when searching for images. Even three days later, the test results showed lingering bias. “It’ s not a flash in the pan,” Guilbeault says, “It actually resonates (发出回响).” The study found that women are underrepresented in online images. Yet this does not fully explain the gender bias, since there are ample images of both women and men in all occupations. Another potential explanation is the complex algorithms that run search engines. “Consistently, we find that the algorithm appears to be privileging male content.” For one, it is easier to avoid gender bias in language. Images of occupations, however, force the communicator to convey gender. For another, they are “particularly sticky in our mind,” Guilbeault added, describing what’s known as the picture-superiority effect. Research also suggests images are more easily processed, remembered, and emotionally powerful. “We’re moving toward a visual communication culture,” Guilbeault says. “It’s a way of communicating that is making us more vulnerable to stereotypes and making them stronger, unless we intervene with some social movement, different norms and cultures that weaken that.” As images prove to be “a more psychologically potent vehicle for representing stereotypes,” Guilbeault warns, “the medium is the message.” 32. What are participants asked to do in the experiments? A. Recruit volunteers. B. Draw self-images. C. Google descriptions of jobs. D. Reinforce the gender stereotype. 33. What does Guilbeault’s statement in Paragraph 3 imply? A. It’s easily-corrected bias. B. It’s deep-rooted prejudice. C. It’s short-lived phenomenon. D. It’s quickly-forgotten impression. 34. Which of the following statements may Guilbeault approve of? A. The algorithms may systematically favor male-associated content. B. The visual medium seldom conveys gender information. C. People are withdrawing from gender stereotypes. D. The effect brought by pictures is temporary. 35. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. Written communication will be replaced in the future. B. Search engines should prioritize female-related content. C. Images convey occupational information more accurately. D. The nature of the visual medium itself strengthens stereotypes. Adults should be getting at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity (中等强度) exercise every week, according to the Physical Activity Guidelines published recently. The guidelines advise adults to do muscle-strengthening activities of moderate or greater intensity at least twice per week. ____36____ “Engaging in a variety of exercises is definitely beneficial,” Voos, who is head team doctor for a football team, said. “Your body needs different ranges of motion, strength and stability. ____37____” This is especially true for children. Sports medicine experts have long encouraged kids to play multiple sports and not to specialize in one at a young age. A lot of data on the topic shows children who specialize in a sport when young have an increased risk of injury. ____38____ They are less bored with exercise and enjoy greater sports achievements when they are older. ____39____ Voos said football players at training camp might do a lot of conditioning one day, then work on flexibility and balance the next, then move onto strength training, all of which is intermixed with playing football. “So even at the highest levels, our athletes are exposing their bodies to different motions,” Voos said. Another plus to shaking things up with your exercise routine, especially if you prefer one activity, is that it helps prevent the plateau (高原) effect. ____40____ That’s because your body has become very efficient at the movements. To overcome such pauses, you need to change your movement routine and stimulate your body in different ways. While changing up your exercise is important for many reasons, experts don’t have specific recommendations for how many different exercises you need to do each week or month to achieve the most benefit. But it’s important to work all of your muscle groups each week, if possible, to strengthen them all. A. However, the children who don’t specialize tend to be healthier. B. This is a period of time when progress in your favored sport stops. C. They also note that varying your exercises can prevent overuse injuries. D. But adults and even professional athletes need to vary their routines, too. E. Cross-training lets your body see all of those different movements each week. F. So they say even simple exercises done at work or home are beneficial, too. G. Those who have the largest amount in their physical activity live the longest.. Kathy Xu, a high school teacher, had always wanted to see a shark in the wild. It had always been on his wish list to see this lake, and he wanted us to make the hike to reach it. The trail was a 10-mile round trip, rated as a difficult hike. The moment I heard this, my heart sank, and panic began to set in, as I feared I wouldn't have the energy to make it to the top. I hadn't been very active recently and couldn't shake the belief, that with academic pressure and workload growing heavier, comes a natural decline in energy and motivation. Nonetheless, early the next morning, we set off, eager to make this dream a reality. The difficulty was apparent from the start. The route was steep, and my body protested with every step. About halfway up, we encountered another brother and sister who had decided to turn back, clearly discouraged by the difficulty of the route. I noticed the brother’s disappointed expression, and something in me shifted. I couldn't bear the thought of giving up. Right then, I made up my mind that I would press on, no matter how tough it got. As we continued on, a surprising thing happened. Instead of focusing on how difficult the hike was, I found myself appreciating the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Each step through the woods felt like a journey into a timeless world, where the heavy burden and stress from study seemed to disappear, replaced by the timeless rhythms of nature. My brother and I chatted as we walked, and I realized how much joy I found in the simple pleasure of his company. What had seemed like an unattainable goal had transformed into a source of personal fulfillment and connection with nature and my brother. However, the hike wasn't without its challenges. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Finally, after hours of hard work, we made it to the top. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第 一 页 共 8 页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
