In the 1950s, the Egyptian government attempted to build a dam across the Nile, which led to parades and protests of professional archaeologists because many heritage sites would likely be flooded. To limit loss,a committee was established. One department raised funds within the international community while the other investigated the issue, conducted several tests, and then made a proposal for how to prevent relics from disappearing. After making sure Egypt signed a document, 50 countries from overseas donated/contributed$80 million to the project.
