I will never forget the tenth summer of childhood with my grandfather in western Norway at the mountain farm where my mother was born. As a boy ,I always thought people simply bought whatever they need. Whether Grandfather know this, I don’t know. One day he said, ”Come, I have something for you.”
I followed him to a workroom. “You should have a toy boat. You can sail it at Storvassdal.” He said. Great, I thought, looking around for the boat. But there was none.
Grandfather pointed to a block of wood. “The boat is in there,” he said. Then he handed me some tools and showed me how to use them properly. “It’ll be a fine boat, and you’ll make it with your own hands,” he said, “No one can give you what you do for yourself.” The words rang in my head as I worked. Finished the boat. It wasn’t much to look at ,but I was pound. Then I sailed it at Storvassdal.
We had to return to America. “You cannot bring that boat home with you,” my mother said. We already had too much baggage. Feeling sad, I hid my boat under a big rock at Storvassdal.
I said good-bye to Grandfather, not knowing I would never see him again.
In 1964, I went to Storvassdal with my parents and my wife and children. To my surprise, for 34 years my treasure stayed here, waiting for my return. I felt we three were together again although my grandfather had died 22 years before.
I carved”1930”and”1964” on its side and put it back.
I returned to the lake in 1968,1971,1977 and 1988. Each time I had the boat and carved the year,my grandfather seemed near.
My last trip to Storvassdal was in 1991. I brought my granddaughters: Catherine13; Claire,12. I hoped they would understand the importance of the little boat and its simple message. At Storvassdal, Claire said softly,‘Grandpa, someday I’ll come back.” She added,”And I’ll bring my children.”

C. The boat took me back to Norway four times
D. Claire understood the meaning of the boat

The idea of low material desire, low consumption and refusing to work, marry and have children, concluded as a “lying down” lifestyle, recently struck a chord with many young Chinese who are eager to take pause to breathe in this fast-paced and highly-competitive society.
Many millennials (千禧一代) and generation Zs (z世代,1995-2009年间出生的人) complained to the Global Times that burdens, including work stress, family disputes (纷争) and financial strains, have pushed them “against the wall”. They said they hate the “involution (内卷),” joking that they would rather give up some of what they have than get trapped in an endless competition against peers.
“Instead of always following the ‘values’ of struggle, endure (忍耐) and sacrifice (牺牲) to bear the stresses, they prefer a temporary lying down as catharsis (宣泄) and adjustment,” said a scholar. “It is no wonder that some young people, under the growing pressures from child-raising to paying the mortgage (按揭) today, would try to live in a simple way and leave the worries behind.”
Interestingly, the majority of millennials and Gen Zs reached by the Global Times, who claim to be big fans of the lying down philosophy, acknowledged that they only accept a temporary lying down as a short rest. It is true that with the great improvement of living conditions, some Chinese youth have partially lost the spirit of hardship and are not willing to bear too much hard work. But in fact, lying down is not entirely comfortable. Young people who lie down always feel guilty about their constant loss of morale (士气) far beyond their reach.
“Young people on campus have both ambition and confusion about their future, but most of us have refused to set ourselves up in chains to waste opportunities and challenges,” a postgraduate student told the Global Times. “It’s no use running away. I have to ‘stand up’ and face the reality sooner or later.”
8. What does the underlined phrase in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Warned. B. Frightened.
C. Touched. D. Amused.
9. What’s the scholar’s attitude toward the “lying down” group?
A. Understanding. B. Negative.
C. Supportive. D. Unclear.
10. What can be inferred about the young generation from the text?
A. They never really drop their responsibilities.
B. They really enjoy the “lying down” lifestyle.
C. They find their dreams far beyond their reach.
D. They would rather escape than take challenges.
11. This passage is most likely extracted from?
A. an article introducing the latest developments
B. a journal about “lying down” lifestyle
C. a research paper on society
D. a senior school textbook on the young people
D
On November 24, China launched the Chang’e‒5 lunar probe (探测器) from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site on the coast of southern island province of Hainan, aboard the heavy-lift carrier rocket Long March‒5.
Chang’e‒5, containing an orbiter, a lander, an ascender (上升器) and a returner, with a total take-off mass of 8.2 tonnes, is expected to bring back samples from the Moon using a complex technological approach which includes unmanned rendezvous and docking (无人交会对接) in lunar orbit.
After it enters the lunar orbit, the lander-ascender combination will separate from the orbiter-returner combination in order to touch down on the Moon. Within 48 hours, a robotic arm will be extended to take up rocks and regolith (风化层) on the lunar surface, and a drill (钻头) will get into the ground. About 2 kg of samples are expected to be collected and sealed in a container in the spacecraft. Then the ascender will take off, and dock with the orbiter-returner in orbit. After the samples are transferred to the returner, the ascender will separate from the orbiter-returner. When the geometric (几何的) relationship between Earth and the Moon is suitable, the orbiter will carry the returner back to Earth.
The landing site of Chang’e‒5 will be to the west of that of Chang’e‒3, which went to the Moon in 2013. This site was chosen because the region has a young geological age, younger than the sampling areas of the United States and the Soviet Union more than 40 years ago. This region has never been sampled. The new samples will be of great scientific value.
Pei Zhaoyu, Deputy Director of the Lunar Exploration and Space Program Center of the China National Space Administration, said if the Chang’e‒5 mission succeeds, China’s current lunar exploration project will come to a successful conclusion. It will also help promote China’s science and technology development, and lay an important foundation for China’s future manned lunar landing and deep space exploration.
12. The mission of Chang’e‒5 is to?
A. collect and carry back lunar samples
B. monitor changes of the lunar surface
C. achieve unmanned rendezvous and docking
D. perform a soft landing on the lunar far side
13. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. The condition of the lunar surface.
B. The process of Chang’e‒5 space mission (任务).
C. The relationship between Earth and the Moon.
D. The application of robotic technology in space.
14. What is special about the landing site of Chang’e‒5?
A. It contains much younger lunar rocks.
B. It has never been reached by any country.
C. It accounts for most resources on the Moon.
D. It is the region where Chang’e‒3 has landed.
15. What does Pei Zhaoyu think of the success of Chang’e‒5 mission?
A. It will take China to the forefront of space exploration.
B. It will mark the end of human exploration of the Moon.
C. It will make it possible to sample other celestial bodies.
D. It will pave the way for China’s future space exploration.

I brought my granddaughters: Catherine,13; Claire,12. I hoped they would understand the importance of the little boat and its simple message. At Storvassdal, Claire said softly,‘Grandpa, someday I’ll come back.” She added,”And I’ll bring my children.”
4. What lesson did the writer’s grandfather probably teach him?
A. Boys should have a toy boat at childhood.
B. People can simply buy whatever they need.
C. Boys should learn to make a boat out of wood.
D. No one can give you what you do for yourself.
5. The underline words”we three” in Paragraph 6 refer to__________

Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer.
___16___ Some people express anger openly in a calm reasonable way. Others burst with anger, and scream and yell. But other people keep their anger inside. They can not or will not express it. This is called repressing anger.

For anyone, the healthy body remains to be the most important thing in one’s life. Do you have pneumonia related symptoms such as fever or cough? If you have, please contact the local CDC for treatment. You must take care of yourself during this period. Stop to go out, wash your hands frequently, and wear a mask.
