(2024·常德模拟)It's hard to imagine a visual record of the 20th century without Picasso. The Spanish artist captured everything from the horrors of war to the boundless possibilities of the human form.Even those unfamiliar with the modern art history can likely identify a few of his bestknown paintings.
The Old Guitarist
Completed: Late 1903 to early 1904
Where to see it: Art Institute of Chicago
The Old Guitarist has to be one of the most sorrowful paintings to ever capture the art world's imagination. The figure depicted (描绘)thin and crosslegged appears exhausted as he sits over his brown guitar.
Garcon a la Pipe
Completed: 1905
Where to see it: Private collection
With Garcon a la Pipe (Boy With a Pipe), we move from Picasso's blue period to the more lively rose period. And while the figure in the oiloncanvas portrait is clothed in blue, the background features happier shades of ochre and pink.
Girl Before a Mirror
Completed: 1932
Where to see it: Museum of Modern Art (New York)
If there's a single painting that screams Picasso, this might be the one. Girl Before a Mirror is alive with color, pathos and charming shapes that take cubism to its extremes.Picasso said he preferred this painting to any of the others, according to MOMA's founding director, Alfred H.Barr Jr.
Guernica
Completed: 1937
Where to see it: Museo Reina Sofia (Madrid)
Guernica is Picasso's bestknown work. Its depiction of an aerial bombing attack on the Basque town of Guernica in April 1937, during the Spanish Civil War, was a visual prelude (序曲)to coming violent act of World War Ⅱ.The muted tones of gray further emphasize the shapes of humans, their arms outstretched in extreme pain.Guernica has become one of the most recognizable antiwar paintings in history.

(2024·苏锡常镇模拟)From strumming a guitar next to a campfire to entertaining guests with a piano piece at a formal dinner, being able to play a musical instrument is unquestionably rewarding.Studies comparing the mental abilities of musicians and nonmusicians often show that musical training is related to small, but significant, cognitive (认知的) benefits even when other factors, such as social and economic status, are accounted for.Indeed, there is evidence that just two years of such training enhances cognition.
However, it has remained unclear whether these enhanced cognitive skills are just temporary.
It is difficult to determine if cognitive changes associated with learning how to play an instrument remain throughout a person's lifetime. On a single day in 1947, the Scottish movement tested the intelligence of almost every 11yearold child who attended school in the country.Researchers at Edinburgh University's Reid School of Music realized it was not too late to ask the original participants about their musical experiences.
The researchers developed a questionnaire that collected information about lifetime musical experience. This was completed by the surviving members who returned to the study for further testing in 2018.The participants were asked how many instruments they played and what their training was like. They were also asked to record how many years of regular practice they had and what performance level they had reached.A total of 366 members provided usable information and 117 revealed that they had some degree of experience with musical instruments.
Overall, the researchers found that a significant positive relationship existed between playing an instrument and change in cognitive ability over time.More specifically, the more years and more hours of practice with an instrument that a person had, the more likely they were to show a positive cognitive change over the course of their life.Precisely why learning to play a musical instrument has these effects remains unclear. The researchers theorize that driving people to regularly use a mix of focused attention, coordination, auditorymotor skills and memory results in advantageous cognitive changes.

Risha loved school. However, there was one class Risha worried about more than any other — art. She didn't know why she just wasn't any good at drawing, painting, or cutting.
Ms Clay, the art teacher, stood at the front of the room.“Class, next Friday our school is going to have an art competition,” she announced. Ms Clay was a great teacher, and Risha liked her a lot. But this announcement made Risha nervous. “Everyone in the school will create a piece of artwork to show in the library. You can use the different types of artwork we have been studying.” Ms Clay was quite excited when she spoke while Risha found herself sinking lower in her chair.
Risha had the whole weekend to work on her project, but she could not think of anything to do. On Monday, Risha felt frightened, so after school Risha asked Ms Clay if she could write an art paper instead of doing an art project.
“I understand this project scared you, Risha,” Ms Clay said. “Just remember, you can create any kind of art you want.” Ms Clay smiled at her. “Art is a person's way of expressing his or her feelings — it isn't always painting, drawing, or cutting. I know you will think of something very creative, and I can't wait to see it.”
When Risha arrived home, she took out a piece of paper and a pencil. She remembered Ms Clay's words. “Art is a person's way of expressing his or her feelings.” Risha wrote the word “terrified” on her paper. She crumpled the paper and threw it to the side of her desk.

参考范文:
Then Risha stared at the crumpled ball. It reminded her of a snowball. Suddenly an idea struck her. Why not create a winter wonderland out of crumpled paper? Risha didn't have to draw or paint or even cut. Risha made many paper balls, glued them all together, and placed them on a big piece of hard paper to form a snowman. The snowman wore a hat made of black paper and a scarf made of red paper. Her finished project was really wonderful.
On Friday, Risha carefully carried her project into the library. She noticed the smile and the nods from teachers and other students as she put her work on a table. Ms Clay walked over to RishA.“You have created a creative piece of artwork. I am so proud of you!” Ms Clay said. Risha was proud of herself too. Her pride grew when Ms Clay placed a firstplace star on her artwork. “Maybe I am a good artist after all,” Risha thought.
