(5)The battle led to tension and _______(anxious) between the two countries. 8.rate n.速度，率&评价，评估 速记：speed 【词汇助记】 rate含义为速度，率，可借助其同义词speed辅助记忆。且用法和speed相同。 短语：at a ...rate/speed of.以...的速度 例句：You may feel anxious that you are developing at a different rate to your friends. 你可能会感到焦虑，因为你的发展速度与你的朋友不同。 9. shoot n.射击，射杀，摄影 速记：发音 【词汇助记】 shoot可借助拟声词“咻”来辅助记忆。因射击发出的声音常是咻一下的。此外，shoot up为快速长高，蹿个儿。也可以理解为咻一下长高。 10.spot n.粉刺，斑点，污渍，地点 速记：special point 【词汇助记】 spot可辅助special point进行记忆。斑点，粉刺，污渍等皆为特殊的点。 11.target n.目标，对象，靶子 速记：get 【词汇助记】 target意思为靶子，引申到目标上来看，常指攻击的目标，因此target一般会get到很多攻击。可借助get这个单词辅助记忆。另外，goal也可表示目标，与target的区分在于其为长远的目标。另外，objective表短期的目标。 12.mental n.思想的，精神的 速记：ment 【词汇助记】 ment为精神，思想。这个后缀等于mind。和其有相同词根的单词还有amentia(精神失常），comment（com为共同，ment为精神，共同的精神产出物即为评论) 例句：When all the teenager problems get too much,your parents are often the first target of your anger and it can be a headache to balance your developing mental needs. 当所有青少年的问题都变得太多时，你的父母往往是你愤怒的第一个目标，平衡你不断发展的心理需求可能会让人头疼。 13.adult n.成年人 速记：advance 【词汇助记】 ad-朝着，朝向；ult-成长，成熟，形容词old就出自本词根。 例句：You enter a strange middle ground—no longer a small child but not quite an adult. You have both a new desire for independence and a continued need for your parents' love and support. 你进入了一个奇怪的中间地带——不再是一个小孩子，而是一个成年人。你对独立有了新的渴望，也继续需要父母的爱和支持。 14.desire n&vt.渴望，希望 速记：star 【词汇助记】 de-向下，sire-通star，星星。古罗马相信占星术，天下的凡人希望星星的运转能够按照自己想要的图案去运行，因此star承担了很多人的渴望和希望，现代中国很多人看到流星，也寄托自己的愿望在上面。 15.struggle vt&n.奋斗，斗争，搏斗 速记：strong 【词汇助记】 struggle可以借和其构造相近的strong来辅助记忆。eg.Struggle makes me strong.也可借用其谐音“撕，抓，够”这些表示努力、斗争，搏斗的动作辅助记忆。 短语：struggle for 为…奋斗；为…争斗 struggle against/ against 与…作斗争，和…斗争 struggle through通过奋力艰难地渡过 It is a struggle for sb to do sth 做某事对某人来说是难事 endless struggle 奋斗不息 the struggle between good and evil 善恶之争 例句：①They struggled just to pay their bills.  他们辛苦所得仅敷日用。 ②He struggled against cancer for two years.  他同癌症抗争了两年。 ③It was a real struggle to be ready on time.  要按时做好准备确非易事。 单句语法填空 ①It was always ___________________ what you do as a mom and what you do as a career. 要平衡做妈妈和做一份职业总是一件让人挣扎的事 ②They had to __________________  all kinds of adversity.  他们不得不同各种困境斗争。 ③He came to symbolize his country's ______________________.  他逐渐成为祖国为争取独立而斗争的象征。 16.rough n.艰难的，粗糙的，不确切的 速记：tough 【词汇助记】 rough可以借之前的相近发音的单词tough记忆，两者都有艰难的含义。但是要注意两者在其他含义上的区分。 例句：On the other hand, when you are struggling to control your feelings, you wish they could be more caring and patient—sometimes they forget that growing up is a rough ride. 另一方面，当你努力控制自己的情绪时，你希望他们能更关心和耐心，有时他们忘记了成长是一段艰难的旅程。 17.breakdown n.关系破裂，故障 速记：break down 【词汇助记】 break down本身就表示关系破裂，精神崩溃或者机器出故障，其名词可以借助break down这个动词短语辅助记忆。 【拓展延伸】break down 出故障; 关系破裂，分解; 奔溃; 拆除;破除（障碍或偏见） break out 爆发，突然发生 break up （关系）破裂，分手，中止，打碎 break through （取得）突破，冲破 break off 突然停止 break of 放弃，改掉（习惯） break into 闯入 完成句子 ①Is it difficult for an Asian entertainer to _______________  the United States?  对于一个亚洲艺人来说，想要冲出重围在美国打下一片天地是不是困难的事？ ②They _______________  so that Jack can use the phone.  他们闯入了一间办公室，因为杰克需要使用电话。 18.regular adj.频繁的，有规律的 速记：re 【词汇助记】 reg-管理，用规则约束 ；ular-形容词后缀（如popular）。全词含义为用规则约束或管理的，就不会杂乱无章，因此含义为有规律的，频繁的。 相同词根的还有regulate（约束，管理），region（区域，被管理的地方）此外，也可借助联想记忆法记忆，可以将re理解为”再一，又一。gu理解成光顾，lar理解成了。含义为又光顾了，意思为频繁的。 短语：regular customer 常客 例句：It can be difficult when your parents treat you like a child but expect you to act like an adult.
