阅读理解 A (2024·杭州模拟)At St Francis High School, there's something to be said about the math teacher, Jim Connor. The truth is, Connor can be a bit of a drudge. But the 70yearold Vietnam vet says he's not here to entertain his students. “It drives me crazy when people say school should be fun,” he says. “I mean, it's nice if it could be, but you can't make school fun.” And for years, the kids thought that's all there was to him — until last November, when senior Pat McGoldrick learned they didn't know the half of him. Pat was in charge of a student blood drive and had just come to Children's Hospital Los Angeles for a meeting. And he says it was weird: Whenever he told someone he went to St Francis High School, they all said, “Oh, you must know Jim Connor. Isn't he wonderful?” “It was really unbelievable,” Pat says. “It was almost kind of finding this alter ego (个性的另一面) that he has.” Inside the blood donor center, Pat found a plaque listing all the top blood donors at the hospital, including the record holder, Jim Connor. Then he learned something even more unbelievable: Whenever Connor isn't torturing kids with calculus (微积分), he's looking after sick babies. Three days a week for the past 20 years, Jim has volunteered at the hospital, stepping in when parents can't, to hold, feed and comfort their children. “They tend to calm for him,” Nurse Erin says. “They tend to relax with him. They fall asleep with him.” “I just like them and relate to them somehow,” Connor says. Connor has never been married; he has no kids of his own. But he has fallen hard for these babies. “I've always respected him, but now it's to an even different degree — really to the point where I try to emulate him,” Pat says. “He's the example of a man of service.” 1.What do we learn from paragraph 2? A.School can never be fun. B.Mr Connor is highly demanding. C.Mr Connor's students drive him crazy. D.Mr Connor thinks education is for all. 根据第二段中的“he's not here to entertain his students. ‘It drives me crazy when people say school should be fun,’ he says”可知,康纳认为他去学校不是为了取悦学生,且他不认为上学应该是享乐的事,据此可以推断,康纳是一个要求严格的人。 2.What did Pat find out about Mr Connor? A.Mr Connor donated blood as well as his time. B.Mr Connor was awarded for his love toward babies. C.Mr Connor used to be a very strict teacher. D.Mr Connor had a unique teaching philosophy. 根据第五段中的“the top blood donors at the hospital, including the record holder, Jim Connor ...Three days a week for the past 20 years, Jim has volunteered at the hospital ...” 3.Which of the following is TRUE about Mr Connor? A.He works two shifts every day for a living. B.He has his alter ego in the eyes of his students all the time. C.He has the ability to connect with those kids he holds. D.He falls hard for those sick kids so he has decided not to have his own. 根据第六段中的“They tend to calm for him”和“They tend to relax with him. They fall asleep with him.” 4.What is the best title for the text? A.Bonding with babies in need of love B.A real lesson is life through learning calculus C.Everybody keeps something under his hat D.The tough teacher has a soft heart 解析:选D 标题归纳题。 B Learning to say “yes, and” When I first heard about the improvisation (即兴交流) class, I was hesitating. As a quiet and shy girl, I feared improvising in front of strangers. However, I knew I wanted to work as a science communicator after finishing my Ph.D., so it seemed like a perfect chance to learn how to speak and communicate with others effectively. I signed up, knowing the experience would give me help. During our first class, we learned an important concept of improvisation: “yes, and”. It means that, as improvisers, we'd better accept what fellow performers say. If someone says that rhinos (犀牛) are librarians, for example, then rhinos are librarians. We do not question the logic; we say “yes” and then continue with the scene as if nothing is wrong. The first few scenes were hard, but as weeks turned into months, I became more comfortable and even started to enjoy our classes. I became better at listening, relating to my conversation partners, and communicating clearly in the moment. Once when I was giving a presentation about my science, an audience member surprised me with a question that didn't grow out of the information I'd presented. Instead of getting confused and nervous, I took the “yes, and” approach — accepting the question and letting my mind focus on why it was asked. That helped me find an appropriate answer. I got pretty excited about it. The benefits of improvisation go beyond communication. Before attending the class, I would get stuck when my experiments produced unexpected data, thinking that I had made a mistake. But now, instead of getting discouraged, I will stay open to the possibility that the results are real, keep exploring the data and end up identifying a new type of cell — one that isn't behaving as expected. I think all scientists can benefit from this lesson. If the data say rhinos are librarians, then it's worth finding out whether rhinos are, in fact, librarians. As scientists, our job isn't to challenge data that support, a preconceived (事先形成的) story, but to say “yes, and”. 5.Why did the author attend the improvisation class? A.To get a different experience. B.To finish her Ph.D.at university. C.To give up her job as a science communicator. D.To improve her speaking and communicating ability. 根据第一段“However, I knew I wanted ...how to speak and communicate with others effectively.” 6.What was the author's change after attending the improvisation class? A.She formed her own idea quickly. B.She came up with lots of creative responses. C.She paid more attention to the logic of answers. D.She became a good listener before giving an opinion. 根据第三段“I became better at listening ...and communicating clearly in the moment.” 7.The author mentions applying the “yes, and” approach to her scientific experiments to ______. A.explain the process of using the method B.prove the benefits of the improvisation class C.share her own research experiences with readers D.attract fellow scientists to attend the improvisation class 解析:选B 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段内容和最后一段“I think all scientists can benefit from this lesson.” 8.What can be inferred about scientists from the last paragraph? A.They should attend the improvisation class. B.They should question all preconceived ideas. C.They should carry on research by admitting earlier datA. D.They should try to improve their academic knowledge. Ⅱ.阅读七选五 (2024·广东一模)One of the most important ways to help your child with their friendships is to have open communication with them.__9__. This is more important than you focus on telling them what you think. However, here are a few points to pass on to your teenager when talking about friendships. Meeting possibilities __10__. Sometimes, friendships are developed because of shared interests, or activities. Other times, social relationships develop between people who may not seem to have much in common but for whatever reason. Practicing forgiveness Friends sometimes hurt each other, but they can always apologize and forgive each other.__11__. However, also be sure to pass on the message that some friendships may not be worth saving, particularly for some bad behaviours. In those conditions, it's fine to walk away. __12__ Who your teen chooses to be their friend is important. They might choose friends who share similar interests and histories with them. The most important things to look for are whether or not the person will be a good friend and if your teen enjoys spending time with them. Putting in the work It takes many learned skills to make and keep a friendship. It also takes many skills to end a friendship. The reality is that most friendships will experience conflict, and friends will have to work through it to keep the relationship or part ways.__13__. A.Building closeness B.Choosing friends wisely C.Moreover, aim to listen to what they have to say D.A good friend will make you feel good about yourself E.Everyone is allowed to have many friends and many types of friends F.If a friendship is becoming hurtful, ending the friendship is a clever choice G.Good relationships are worth the work to repair the damage caused by any miscommunications 9.选C 根据下文“This is more important than you focus on telling them what you think.”可知,空处所说的内容和telling them what you think进行对比且更重要。C选项“此外,目标是倾听他们的意见”能引起下文,下文中的 This 指代 aim to listen to what they have to say。 10. 11.选G 空前一句强调朋友之间也存在互相伤害,G项中的 the damage caused by any miscommunications与空前的 hurt each other 意思表达一致,同时和下文“However, also be ...some bad behaviours.” 13.选F 根据上文“It takes many learned skills to make and keep a friendship. It also takes many skills to end a friendship.” Ⅲ.完形填空 (2024·济南高三质检)On the night of the speech contest, I was worried about the shy girl. My heart __14__ when I knew the boy on stage previous to her,__15__, was fairly successful with his humor and personal style. The whole audience burst out a wave of __16__ almost every 30 seconds. My palms (手掌) began to __17__. It was the first time that she had been on the stage, so I couldn't blame her for any __18__. The strong spotlight made her so insignificant that nobody __19__ she had been on the stage. But the moment that __20__ me occurred. I clearly heard a __21__ voice, “Now, your __22__, please!” The whole audience fell quiet. Small and thin as the girl appeared, the __23__ look on her face instantly caught everyone's eyes. Then her speech was on, logical and wellorganized. Words of power __24__ freely out of the girl like magic. When her speech __25__, a thunderous applause sounded from the audience. When the competition was concluding, all of us waited __26__ for the winner's name to be called. Tears of joy __27__ my vision when the host announced she won first prize.
