Unit 1 A Travel Diary
Wednesday, August 20th
Man who travels far knows more. I like traveling. So I arrived in Beijing by plane with my family. I really had fun there.
What a hot and sunny day today! At first, I went to the Palace Museum. The buildings were so beautiful that I didn't want to leave. So we took some photos. I liked this place because I learned something important. Then we had Beijing duck for dinner. When I saw the delicious food, I couldn't wait to eat it. At last, we went back to the hotel. I felt really tired but happy.
In a word, it was a great trip. I look forward to going there again.
Unit 2 Jane’s Habits
Jane is a 16-year-old high school student in the United States. American Teenager magazine asked her about her habits.
Jane has a lot of good habits. She always exercises and she reads books every day. Also, she often drinks juice and she hardly ever stays up late. However, she has some bad habits, too. She usually watches TV for more than two hours a day, and she sometimes eats hamburgers. Her parents are not very happy because she hardly ever helps with housework and she never goes to the dentist for teeth cleaning. She says she is afraid.
First we make our habits, then our habits make us. So we should keep on good habits and try to break bad habits.
Unit 3 Best Friends
A good friend is like a mirror. Wang Lingling and Liu Lili are best friends. They study at Mingde Dongjing Middle School in Changsha.
In some ways, they are similar. They are both tall. Also, Wang is as popular as Liu. So it's easy for them to make friends at school.Wang is similar to Liu. They are
outgoing. In their free time, they often talk about and share everything.
However, they are some differences between them. First, they have straight hair,
but Wang has longer hair than Liu. Second, Liu likes doing sports such as ping-pong and tennis. Wang thinks sports are boring, though. And she likes reading better. Third,Wang is a little more serious and Liu is a lot funnier than Wang. At last, Liu is not as hard-working as Wang, but Wang is less smart.
All in all, a best friend brings out the best in them. They will be friends forever.
Unit 4 Greenwood Park
Greenwood Park is the best place to go to on weekends. I always finish my breakfast the fastest on Saturdays because I want to get to Greenwood Park before 10:00 a.m. to meet my friends. The park is the most crowded place on weekends because almost everyone goes there to see the street performers. Some people think they are boring, but I think they are the most creative people. However, the place where you can enjoy your time the most quietly is at one of the small coffee shops near the park. You can read or relax there. There is something for everyone at Greenwood Park.
Unit 5 A Movie Review about Mulan
Mulan is an exciting action movie. It comes from an old Chinese story. The movie is about a village girl, Mulan. She dresses up like a boy and takes her father’s place to fight in the army. I think the actress played Mulan’s role well. The other actors are also fantastic and they did a good job in the movie. I like Mulan very much.
The movie shows her love for her family, friends and country.
If you want to watch a movie this weekend and you plan to see something enjoyable, choose Mulan!
Unit 6 New Year’s Resolutions
Resolutions are promises to myself. They help to make me a better person. This year I'm going to make three resolutions.
First, I'm going to take up a new hobby. Singing is a great activity so I hope to take singing lessons. It will also make my family happy because they love to listen to music and sing together. Then, I plan to take part in the sports meeting, and I’m going to do sports every day such as swimming, running and so on. At the same time, I’m going to eat more healthy food instead of junk food. Because health is everything. Finally, I want to improve my English. I’m going to practice it very often and have many conversations with my classmates so that I can get good grades in English tests.
Where there is a will, there is a way. I will try my best to make my resolutions come true in the coming year.
Unit 7 My Life in 20 Years
I think my life in 20 years will be quite different from now.
In 20 years, I think I’ll be a newspaper reporter. I’ll live in Shanghai, because there will be more jobs in that city. As a reporter, I think I will meet lots of interesting people, so I’ll have more friends. I’ll have fewer pets, though, because I’ll have less free time. And my apartment will be no good for pets because it’ll be too small. So I’ll probably just keep a bird. During the week, I’ll wear smart clothes. On the weekend, I’ll look less smart but I’ll be more comfortable. In the future, people will work more so they’ll probably have fewer vacations, but I think I’ll take a holiday in Hong Kong when possible. One day I’ll even go to Australia.
In a word, my life will be much better in 20 years. Do you think so?
Unit 8 How to Make Yunan Rice Noodles
In Yunnan, many people eat rice noodles for breakfast, and even for lunch and dinner. To make this special food, you need to have rice noodles, chicken soup, chicken, lettuce and eggs. (Of course, you can also have other things like fish and different vegetables.) First, wash the lettuce and cut it up. Next, cut the chicken into pieces. Then, make the chicken soup very hot, over 100℃. Then, cook the eggs, meat and lettuce in the pot of hot soup, one by one. Finally, put the rice noodles into the soup. Now, it’s time to enjoy the rice noodles!
Unit 9 Making an Invitation
Dear classmates,
How time flies! It's time to say good-bye. The graduation day is just around the corner. You know, we do value our school time. We have had great time here sharing our joys and sadnesses. In order to celebrate our graduation and express our heartfelt thanks to the teachers' hard work, we are planning to hold a graduation party in the classroom at 7:00 p.m. next Friday.
At the party we'll do some singing, dancing and guessing games. Besides, we'll take some photos to help remember the sweet moment.
Is it possible for you to come to the party? If you are available, can you help with any of these things? Please let me know as soon as you have decided.
1) Think of games to play.
2) Prepare things like balloons we need for the games.
3) Buy food and drinks.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you all!
Yours,
Li Hua
Unit 10 Helping Others Solve Their Problems
Dear Tina,
I am glad you trust me so much that you share your problems with me, and I will try my best to help you.
Firstly, being fat itself is not a big deal, but your health is important. To be healthy, you should eat more vegetables and fruit and do more exercise. Secondly, you don’t know how to make friends. It is normal to have this feeling. But you can always offer to help others so that you can make more friends. Thirdly, it worries you that you can’t get a good grade. To tell you the truth, nobody can succeed unless he works hard or finds a good way to study. And asking teachers for help is also a good way.
Worries and problems are normal in life. As long as you solve them , they are not big deals. Wish you happy forever.
Yours,
Rainy
