I worked as a bartender at a bar inside an upscale health-food grocery store(it's
a real thing,I promise).
Most of our customers were well-off retirees.Generally,a nice group of
customers, but definitely rich uptight people.Forgetting to bring salt to some might
be a huge offense but automatically bringing it causes others to give you a lecture
about sodium(钠)intake.
It was St.Patrick's Day.Needless to say,it was a crazy evening with me rushing
around serving corned beef and cabbage pouring Guinness. For some reason, the bar
supervisor always liked to have food specials on display for people to see. While I
got the concept,it generally just caused us to get mean looks when we told people
they probably shouldn't eat it.
As the night was beginning to slow down,I had an older couple sit at the only
open seats next to our food displays.I was clearing tables and leaned over to let them
know I'd be right with them when a plate slid off the mountain of dishes I was
carrying, dropping right into the food display. The 12-hour-old gravy and potatoes
somchow still had some fluidity to them and flew up,then dropped right into the

man's lap.
I was horrified and apologizing profusely (while trying to set down the
mountain of dishes.
The man looked up at me and said "I just have one thing to tell you."
He slowly leaned in,at which point I was thinking he was about to spit in my
face, and he said "I don't have to hiccup (anymore. You scared it away."
It was the laugh I needed that night and he wouldn't even let me give him a free
beer as an apology.
24.What's the aim of writing the second paragraph?
A.To show the service was a hard balancing act.
B.To tell senior citizens prefer food low in salt.
C.To complain the customers are difficult to deal with.
D.To prove the rich retirees are particular about food.
25.What can be indicated from the third paragraph?
A.The author was not working busily on that day.
B.Customers might want to eat the food on show.
C.Waiters and waitresses were often looked down on.
D.The author approved of laying out the food special.
26.What is the reason for the author's apology?
A.Her tolerance.
B.Her ignorance.
C.Her misunderstanding.
D.Her carelessness.
27.What lesson does the author want to teach us by sharing her experience?
A.Conflicts are well-resolved by laugh.
B.You should compromise sometimes.
C.Forgiveness can bring pleasure in life.
D.You should apologize when necessary.

In the past months, humans have become quite familiar with the term "social
distancing".But it turns out that we are not the only ones to avoid contacting our
peers when our health may be at risk:Research suggests honeybees do it,too."It's
exciting to see that other animals are doing something analogous",said Dr.
高二(英语)试题第6页(共15页)
Alessandro Cini,co-author of the research at University College London.
Scientists have found that when a hive of honeybees is under threat from
the mite()called Varroa destructor, which can cause the collapse of honeybee
colonies, the bees will respond by changing the way they interact with one another.
By examining videos recorded inside the hives, the researchers found that when
hives had mites, foraging (bees performed important dances to indicate the
direction of food sources and kept themselves away from the center of the colony
where young bees and the queen stayed. This may help to keep the infection at a
level that can be controlled, limiting the amount of damage."Foragers are one of the
main entrance routes for the mites,"said Cini.
The team then carried out experiments in the laboratory, artificially infecting
small groups of about 12 young bees with the mites and comparing them to
uninfected groups. This time the team found no increase in social distancing among
infected groups-which,says Cini, may reflect that it is more important for foragers
and young bees to keep their distance when the mites are present and that bees rely
on one another.
"Probably social distancing is too costly on a small scale,"he said. But there
were differences in grooming (behavior:Infected bees were groomed more,
inspected more, and had food shared with them more than individuals in uninfected
groups.
Cini said the study showed the power of natural selection in the evolution of
social behavior and also dynamic change in the social behavior to adapt to an ever-
changing environment.
28.What does the underlined word"analogous"in the first paragraph probably mean?
A.Adventurous.
B.Meaningful.
C.Alike.
D.Creative.
29.What is the purpose of foraging bees'keeping away from the center of the colony?
A.To quickly locate the food.
B.To show respect for the queen.
C.To shorten the entrance route.
D.To minimize the potential risk.
30.Why do honeybees keep social distancing?
高二(英语)试题第7页(共15页)
A.Because they're artificially infected.
B.Because they depend on each other.
C.Because they're compared with others.
D.Because mites appear among them.
31.What is the best title of the text?
A.Social Distancing in Honeybees.
B.Communication between Honeybees.
C.Honeybees Proved to Be More Social.
D.Strict Social Rules in Honeybees.

Housing ranks high among the numerous challenges that still need to be
overcome before humans can colonize (Mars. The brave pioneers that make
the six-month voyage to the Red Planet will need a place to live in as soon as they
land. While the best solution would be to have the structures ready before they get
there,it has so far been a challenge given that most construction robots have never
made it out of the laboratory. Now,there may be a bit of hope thanks to
Massachusetts Institute of Technology's newly revealed Digital Construction
Platform (DCP).
The DCP comprises a double arm system that is fitted on a tracked vehicle. As
the larger arm moves, the smaller, precision motor robotic arm builds the structure
by shooting out the necessary construction material, ranging from insulation foam
(绝缘泡沫)to concrete..The team of researchers led by Ph.D.Steven Keating say
that unlike other 3-D printers that are limited to building objects that fit within their
overall enclosure,DCP's free moving systems can be used to construct structures of
any size.
The team recently demonstrated the DCP's building skills on an empty field in
Mountain View CA.The robot began by creating a mold with expanding foam that
hardens when dry.It then constructed the building, layer by layer, using sensors to
raise itself higher as it progressed. The final product was a sturdy "home"that had
50-foot diameter walls and a 12-foot-high roof with room for essentials like
electricity wires and water pipes to be inserted inside.Even more impressive? It took
高二(英语)试题第8页(共15页)
a mere 14 hours to "print"!
The researchers'next plan is to make the DCP smart enough to analyze the
environment where the structure is going to be built and determine the material
densities best suited for the area. However, that's not even the best part.Future DCP
models are going to be solar-powered,autonomous,and,most importantly, capable
of sourcing construction components from its surroundings. This means the robot
can be sent to remote,disaster-stricken areas, and perhaps even to Mars,to build
shelters using whatever material is available.
32.What does the author want to tell us in the first paragraph?
A.Colonizing Mars is out of the question.
B.Housing pioneers on Mars is a reality.
C.Finding a livable place on Mars is a top priority.
D.Building structures on Mars is in the testing phases.
33.What is the difference between DCP and other 3-D printers?
A.It comes in more different sizes.
B.It consumes less time.
C.It can build more diverse struetures.
D.It is more cnvironmentally friendly
34.What is the main idea of the third paragraph?
A.The instructions of using the DCP.
B.The working principle of the DCP.
C.The successful case of the DCP.
D.The limitation of the DCP's function.
35.What might be the biggest advantage of future DCP?
A.Bcing powered by solar.
B.Building shelters anywhere.
C.Analyzing building material densities.
D.Collecting building materials on site.

Whoever wrote the song "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"must have
never experienced the holiday blues.Fortunately, psychological research suggests
some effective ways you can use to beat the holiday blues. The key point is that
sadness and other tough emotions are not what we should try to avoid.36 Here
are four strategies to help you make your own happiness recipe this holiday season.
Don't force cheer
At family gatherings with cousins you secretly can't stand, you tend to put on a
happy face.Indeed, that might even seem like the most mature response-no drama,
no conflict. But a 2011 study followed dozens of bus drivers, looking to see when
they gave forced or honest smiles at their passengers.37 Thus, trying to force
happiness seems to have the opposite effects.
38
The results of the bus-driver study can be explained by researchers who find that
negative feelings like sadness or anger only increase when we try to control them.
We feel bad when our appearance is not consistent with our inside feelings. We don't
like contradictory behavior.
Respond cautiously
Recently, scientists have been paying special attention to the benefits of caution.
When you respond cautiously to an emotional trigger, you pause rather than react at
once.A cautious response to a negative event reduces sadness we expericnce.39
Enjoy a mix of emotions
Of course, the holidays will bring a mix of highs and lows, but the most
important lesson to keep in mind is that this variety of cmotions might be the best
thing possible for your overall well-being.40 Just make sure you're balancing
them with lighter experiences. And don't forget to give yourself a break.
A.Let off sadness
B.Relax your mind
C.Instead, they can help contribute to a healthy and happy life.

参考范文:
Mr. Zhang told Mei that Mei’s painting was excellent and moved him. With tears
in his eyes, he told her how her painting of the sunrise had profoundly touched him. Mr.
Zhang explained that he had been going through a tough time and that Mei’s painting
reminded him of the beauty and hope in the world. He described how the warm colors
and the image of the sun rising over the ocean gave him a sense of peace and comfort.
Mr. Zhang’s words made Mei realize that her works had a significant impact, reaching
beyond just winning contests.
Mr. Zhang’s recognition of Mei’s works renewed Mei’s interest in painting. She
started to see her art not just as a means to achieve personal recognition, but as a tool
for healing and bringing joy to others. Mei began to paint with a new purpose, creating
artworks that depicted scenes of hope and beauty. Her art soon became a source of
warmth and inspiration in her community. Through her journey, Mei discovered the true
essence of her art: It was not just about creating beautiful scenes on canvas, but about
touching hearts and warming souls.
