1.—________did the rainstorm come, Mr. Liu? —While we ________ a chemistry lesson yesterday afternoon. A.When; have had B.When; were having C.While; are having D.While; have 【答案】B 【详解】句意:——刘老师,暴风雨什么时候来的?——昨天下午我们正在上化学课的时候。 When什么时候;have had现在完成时;were having过去进行时;While在…… B。 2.— A little bird entered through the open window to join us for dinner last night. —Wow, the unexpected guest welcomed. A.will be B.must be C.won’t be D.mustn’t be 【答案】B 【详解】句意:——昨晚一只小鸟从开着的窗户进来和我们一起吃晚饭。 will将会,用于构成一般将来时态;must一定,表推测;won’t是一般将来时的否定式;mustn’t不要/不能,表示禁止;表推测需用can’t be。 B。 3.--- Who will win the first prize in the drawing competition? --- Nobody can know the result until it_________ tomorrow morning. A.will announce B.will be announced C.is announced D.announces 【答案】C 【详解】句意:——谁将在绘画比赛中获得一等奖?——直到明天上午宣布,才会有人知道结果。 C。 4.Most boys _______ guns to dolls while most girls _______ have dolls than guns. A.would rather; prefer B.prefer; would rather C.would rather; would rather D.prefer; prefer 【答案】B 【详解】句意:大多数男孩更喜欢枪而不是洋娃娃,而大多数女孩更喜欢洋娃娃而不是枪。 would rather do宁愿做某事;prefer A to B比起B来更喜欢A;都是固定结构。 B。 5.----When will your sister go to England? ----She London since four months ago. A.went to B.has gone to C.has been to D.has been in 【答案】D 【详解】句意:——你妹妹什么时候去英国?——她四个月前就在伦敦了。 D。 6.Holly was very _____. She tried to keep her eyes open but she couldn't. A.serious B.crazy C.sleepy D.creative 【答案】C 【详解】句意:霍莉很困。 C。 7.She was not ______yesterday, but she is _______to go to school now. A.feel well; well enough B.feeling well; well enough C.feel good; good enough D.feeling good; good enough 【答案】B 【详解】句意:她昨天感觉不舒服,但是她现在足够好可以去上学了。 8.I’m glad to find that many trees ________ in our city last year. A.plant B.planted C.were planted D.are planted 【答案】C 【详解】句意:我很高兴地发现在我们的城市去年种了许多树。 C。 9.You can't be too ____ while driving. A.careful B.careless C.carefully D.carelessly 【答案】A 【详解】句意:开车时你怎么小心都不为过。 A。 10._____ Wugang Airport_____ last year? A.Did; build B.Had; built C.Was; built 【答案】C 【详解】句意:武冈机场是去年修建的吗? C。 11.Could you say about it, please? I would like to know . A.nothing else; more B.anything else; most C.something else; more D.anything other; most 【答案】C 【详解】句意:你能就它说点其他的什么吗? C。 12.—Dad, I hand out all the leaflets in front of the shopping mall?   —No, you . You may try another public place. A.could; couldn’t B.must; needn’t C.need; can’t D.may; shouldn’t 【答案】B 【详解】句意:- 爸爸,我必须在商场前面把所有的传单分发出去吗? May/Could I…? 否定回答是:No, sb. needn't.,本题的语境也不是在问“必须…?”,must I …? B。 13.—Jack, I haven’t seen your uncle for a long time.   —He Shanghai on business for two weeks. A.went to B.has gone to C.has been in D.has been to 【答案】C 【详解】句意:——杰克,我很久没见到你的叔叔了。 已经去过;has been in 正在某地; has been to 去了某地(已返回); has gone to 去了某地(未返回),有for two weeks 这个时间状语,首先应该排除一般过去时,应该选用现在完成时,这句话表达的意思是叔叔正在上海工作,用has been in,故选C。 14.The old couple _______ happily at their home when I walked past yesterday afternoon. A.heard singing B.heard to sing C.were heard singing D.was heard to sing 【答案】C 【详解】句意:当我昨天下午经过这儿的时候,听到这对老夫妻正在家里高兴地唱歌呢。 主语“The old couple”和“hear”之间有被动关系,所以要用被动语态;“某人被听到正在做某事”用sb be heard doing sth表示,时间状语是yesterday afternoon,主语是“the couple”是复数形式,所以是were heard singing。故选C。 15.“To an engineer, a miss is _____ a mile. So we are always careful with every detail. ”Said Mr. Liu. A.as well as B.as good as C.as long as D.as far as 【答案】B 【详解】句意:“对于一个工程师来说,失之毫厘,谬以千里。 as well as和……一样好;as good as和……几乎一样,实际上等于……;as long as只要,和……一样长;as far as就……而言。a miss is as good as a mile是谚语,意思是“失之毫厘,谬以千里”。 It was a September day. But in ancient China, hand fans were almost the only help for people to drive the heat away. Chinese people started to use hand fans over 2,000 years ago. Feather (羽毛) fans showed the owner’s high status (地位). Sandalwood (檀香) fans could send out a sweet smell. Later, hand fans became far more than just something that could cool you down. They developed into artworks, in which tuanshan (round fans) and zheshan (folded fans) were the most common. In the shape of a full moon, tuanshan was usually made of silk. They had beautiful embroidery (刺绣) of birds and flowers on them. Women, especially those in the imperial palace (皇宫), liked to use them. Poets (诗人) in ancient China often compared a woman’s abandoned fate (被抛弃的命运) to tuanshan. Nalan Xingde wrote a poem during the Qing Dynasty, “If only life were as beautiful as when we first met, why should the autumn wind bother to pity deserted painted fans? However, men, especially the literati (文人), used zheshan, or folded fans. The literati liked them because zheshan were usually made of paper and they could paint and write poems on them. It was a way for them to show off their talents in literature, painting and calligraphy (书法). Almost anything can be painted on zheshan, but the most popular ones usually featured landscapes Today, Chinese people still use these fans, only not many write or paint on them anymore. Instead, people traded one thing for another thing. A chicken, for example, was traded for something else that had value (价值). But value was the problem. One chicken did not have the value of one cow. The world needed something that would have the same value everywhere. That something was gold. At first, gold was used for trade. To be used for trade, the gold had to be checked to see if it was real gold. It was a lot of trouble. Then, around 700 BC, gold was made into coins. It became a lot easier to buy things with coins that could be counted. It was not until the 1700s that the first paper money was made. ______. If a country printed a lot of money, the money would lose its value. Paper money needed to be tied (连接) to something of value. Again, that thing was gold. In 1821, England introduced the gold standard. That meant that paper money was supported by gold. Paper money could be traded for gold in an equal (相同的) value. That way, paper money would keep its value. Most large countries followed England in using the gold standard. After World War I, the world economy (经济) was not good. Also, new gold was not being found fast enough. Countries based on the gold standard had economic problems. Soon, countries stopped using the gold standard. They began to base their money on the value of the British pound or US dollar. The gold standard worked fine in its time. But times change, and the gold standard is now just history. 42.Which of the following is NOT TRUE about gold? A.People traded gold before coins were made. B.The gold standard came before paper money. C.Gold was made into coins around 700 BC. D.The gold had to be checked when used for trade. 43.Which sentence can be put in the ______? D.Paper money brought a new problem, though. 44.What happened to the gold standard after World War I? A.It was used only by the US. B.It did not work so well. C.It made many people rich. They couldn’t see Scrooge and the ghost. “Ha, ha, ha!” cried Fred, “My uncle said that Christmas was a trick! And he believed it too!” “Shame for him, Fred!” said Mary, Fred’s nice wife, angrily. “He’s a funny old fellow,” said Fred, “He’s rich, but his wealth is of no use to him. He doesn’t do any good with it. And I have nothing to say against him.” After that, they began to play a game. All the people did it happily, young and old, and so did Scrooge. He was really enjoying himself. He even forgot that they couldn’t see or hear him. The Ghost was greatly pleased to find Scrooge in this mood, and Scrooge didn’t want to leave. “Here is another game,” said Scrooge. “Allow me to stay one half hour, Spirit, only one half hour.” That was a Game called “Yes and No”—When someone thought of something, the rest must find out what it was by getting the answer “yes” or “no”. It was Fred’s turn. He laughed and laughed. At last, his wife Mary cried out, “I have found it out! It’s your Uncle Scro-o-o-o-oge!” “Certainly it is! He has given us plenty of merriment, I am sure,” said Fred, “Here is a glass of wine ready to our hand now, and I say, ‘Uncle Scrooge!’ ” “Well! The fans came in different shapes, such as round and square. They were also made from all kinds of materials (材料). Palm leaf (棕榈叶) fans were cheap and easy to make. D.It spread all over the world. 45.What’s the purpose of writing the passage? A.To tell readers the history of money. B.To explain the importance of making money. C.To show readers how to make coins.
