Millions of people pass through the gates of Disney's entertainment parks in California, Florida and Japan each year. What makes these places an almost universal attraction? What makes foreign kings and queens and other important people want to visit these Disney parks? Well, one reason is the way they're treated once they get there. The people at Disney go out of their way to serve their “guests”, as they prefer to call them, and to see that they enjoy themselves.
All new employees, from vice presidents to parttime workers, begin their employment by attending Disney University and taking “Traditions Ⅰ”. Here, they learn the company's history, how it is managed, and why it is successful. They are shown how each department relates to the whole. All employees are shown how important their part is in making the park a success.
After passing “Traditions Ⅰ”, the employees go on to do more specialized training for their specific (具体的) jobs. No detail (细节) is missed. A simple job like taking tickets requires four eighthour days of training. When one ticket taker was asked why it took so much training for such a simple, ordinary job, he replied, “What happens if someone wants to know where the restrooms are, when the parade starts or what bus to take to get back to the campground?...We need to know the answers or where to get them quickly. Our constant aim is to help our guests enjoy the party.”
Even Disney's managers get involved in the daily management of the park. Every year, the managers leave their desks and business suits and put on special service clothes. For a full week, the bosses sell hot dogs or ice cream, take tickets or drive the monorail, and take up any of the 100 jobs that make the entertainment park come alive. The managers agree that this week helps them to see the company's goals more clearly.
All these efforts to serve the public well have made Walt Disney Productions famous. Disney is considered by many as the best mass service provider in America or the world. As a longtime business observer once said, “How Disney treats people, communicates with them, and rewards them is, in my view, the very reason for its fifty years of success...I have watched, very carefully and with great respect and admiration, the theory and practice of selling satisfaction and serving millions of people on a daily basis successfully. They are what Disney does best.”

Astronauts get to experience many interesting attractions. When astronauts go to space, they can become weightless. They get to see Earth as a little blue dot. Astronauts get to experience shooting up into space at 20,000 miles per hour. That is more than three times faster than an airplane. Still, food is not one of the interesting parts of being an astronaut. Space travelers have had to eat strange foods. One example is liquid salt and pepper. They have also had to eat the dried shrimp cocktail. The astronauts add water to it to make it a liquid again before eating.
However, the menu for astronauts is going to grow. Scientists have been growing lettuce in outer space. The lettuce is just as safe, nutritious and tasty as lettuce grown on Earth. Gioia Massa works at the NASA Kennedy Space Center in Florida. She is the lead scientist in the lettuce growing project. She says that growing food in space can be pivotal for astronauts during long missions. Massa says that today's space food may not work for these long missions. This packaged food is stored for a long time. The quality and taste of the food go down. In addition, the vitamins in the food start to break down. The astronauts may not get enough nutrition from these foods during long missions.
She also adds that there can be another benefit of growing food in space. Looking after plants can help astronauts emotionally. Space food has improved in recent years. Many astronauts visit the International Space Station (ISS). It is a research station in outer space. Anything sent to ISS has to score at least a 6 out of 9 in a taste test. Even so, astronauts can grow tired of eating the same old vacuumpacked meals. Massa says many of the astronauts end up losing weight.
The spacegrown lettuce is similar to Earthgrown lettuce. In fact, some of the spacegrown plants have more nutrients than Earthgrown lettuce. The spacelettuce also has higher levels of bacteria. This is possibly because the lettuce grows in a warmer, more humid system. However, none of this bacteria is dangerous.

解析 C 词义猜测题。结合上下文,并根据第二段末尾“The astronauts may not get enough nutrition from these foods during long missions.”与第三段开头“She also adds that there can be another benefit of growing food in space.”可知,Massa认为在太空种植食物很重要。由此推知画线词意为“重要的”。故选C。
14.Which of the following may not be the one that Massa probably agrees?
A.Astronauts get enough nutrition from growing food in space.
B.Growing food in space gives astronauts a more varied diet.
C.Astronauts get help emotionally by looking after plants in space.
D.Astronauts never grow tired of eating the same old packaged food.
解析 D 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“astronauts can grow tired of eating the same old vacuumpacked meals”可知,D选项不是Massa同意的观点,符合题干要求,故选D。
15.What may happen in the following days according to the text?
A.More and more astronauts will end up losing weight.
B.It will not be a long time before astronauts can cook these ingredients.
C.NASA plans to grow other produce on the ISS.

(2024·新课标Ⅰ卷) I met Gunter on a cold, wet and unforgettable evening in September.I had planned to fly to Vienna and take a bus to Prague for a conference.Due to a big storm,my flight had been delayed by an hour and a half.I touched down in Vienna just 30 minutes before the departure of the last bus to Prague. The moment I got off the plane,I ran like crazy through the airport building and jumped into the first taxi on the rank without a second thought.
That was when I met Gunter.I told him where I was going, but he said he hadn't heard of the bus station.I thought my pronunciation was the problem,so I explained again more slowly, but he still looked confused. When I was about to give up,Gunter fished out his little phone and rang up a friend. After a heated discussion that lasted for what seemed like a century,Gunter put his phone down and started the car.
Finally, with just two minutes to spare we rolled into the bus station.Thankfully, there was a long queue (队列) still waiting to board the bus.Gunter parked the taxi behind the bus, turned around, and looked at me with a big smile on his face.“We made it,”he said.
Just then I realised that I had zero cash in my wallet.I flashed him an apologetic smile as I pulled out my Portuguese bankcard. He tried it several times, but the card machine just did not play along.A feeling of helplessness washed over me as I saw the bus queue thinning out.
At this moment,Gunter pointed towards the waiting hall of the bus station. There,at the entrance, was a cash machine.I jumped out of the car, made a mad run for the machine, and popped my card in,only to read the message:“Out of order.Sorry.”
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
I ran back to Gunter and told him the bad news.
Four days later, when I was back in Vienna,I called Gunter as promised.
