Now, let’s have a look at the whole museum. It is large and a home to many pictures of school history. From these pictures, a sense of history spreads out, which makes visitors feel serious about the museum. At the top of the wall, there is a calligraphy work written by an artist, “ 英雄造时 势,微言开太平”,which means that man makes the times and a brief word opens the peace. Seeing this work, you will have a feeling of grandeur. It just like that the word is alive and each one just like a general who looks at you disdainfully. The moment you see the work, you can’t help being proud of Chinese wonderful art. Next, turn left and we can see a picture drawn by Gao Yuangong, an outstanding painter in Yuan dynasty. In the painting, the mountains are pale and lush with clouds and mist. Hillside pavilion half exposed, waterfalls and springs, a drain down. Low clouds, green water, old trees, a light boat, half hidden, half present, moored on the shore, a few thatched cottages on the shore for shade, arched bridges crossing the water, the sound of water gurgling! You will feel relaxed and happy when you see the picture. Numerous works are displayed in our museum, but now I have to say goodbye and I hope you can visit the museum in person to feel the history of our school. They are well integrated to the whole scene while each shrimp displays distinctive features from others. In Chinese art history, Qi Baishi ranks as a towering figure. Among his works, lifelike shrimps play a key role. The "shrimps" are so popular that they have become synonymous with the painter himself. Born to a family of farmers in Hunan in 1864, Qi Baishi didn’t have any formal education or training in the field of art; however, he managed to master many different techniques. He learned carpentry in his teens, and later taught himself the arts of painting, poetry, calligraphy and seal cutting. The years spent in rural areas instilled in him a deep-rooted love of nature. Shrimps have been the favorite subject of Qi’s painting for decades. He first became interested in shrimps as a boy playing around a pond near his home. Later, when he began to paint shrimps, he also raised a few in big bowls at home to obtain a better observation of the species. During his youth, he traveled around the country to seek inspiration from nature while ardently studying the masterpieces of early Chinese painters. After all of his travels, Qi built a house and settled down and soon achieved wide renown in the Chinese capital. He began reading and writing poetry and painting some of the mountains he saw while traveling. 第 14 页 共 27 页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 Qi’s works were based on his life and his character. Because of his natural style, collectors both “artistic and political” purchased his work. After the fall of the Qing dynasty Qi was known for not letting all the political issues affect his work and keeping his own values and ideas through the harsh times. Qi Baishi opened a new window for the fine art world. He was dubbed the "People's Painter" and awarded the title of "People's Artist" by China's Ministry of Culture. Pablo Picasso once told that he was an admirer of Qi Baishi “Chinese paintings are really amazing. Mr Qi painted water fish without a touch of color and he didn’t even draw a single line to depict the water, but people can all see the river and sense the freshness of the water in his painting. An artist of the people Galloping with the vigour of strong and simple brush strokes, the horses painted by late Chinese master Xu Beihong inspired his countrymen in wartime Born on 19 July 1895 in Yixing, Jiangsu, during the late Qing dynasty, Xu began studying classic Chinese works and calligraphy with his father Xu Dazhang at the age of six. Beihong came from rural Yixing, Jiangsu province. He started from the scratch and in the end became a well-known figure in the world due to his contributions in the art industry. Beginning in 1919, Xu studied overseas in Paris at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, where he studied oil painting and drawing. His travels around Western Europe allowed him to observe and learn Western art techniques. Having studied animal anatomy in Paris, Xu “came up with a special technique, using free brushstrokes, very few lines and only ink. “He created his horses mainly during the War of Resistance [against Japan] and put all of his emotion into his paintings,” said his son Xu Qingping. “Horses are very beautiful, loyal, courageous and they always lead the charge to victory. I believe this is why Chinese people love his paintings.”During World War II, Xu traveled to Southeast Asia, holding exhibitions in Singapore and India. All the proceeds from these exhibitions went to Chinese people who were suffering as a result of the war. When Xu returned to his home country in 1927, touched by the dire situation of his country and its people struggling for a living at the time, Xu undertook as one of his duties to speak for the plight of his people through painting. Some are of those who worked at the construction site of a flood-control project in Shandong province in 1951. Xu and his students traveled to the site to observe people's work and drew there. 第 15 页 共 27 页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 The drawings were to prepare for a painting, but Xu was not able to do it before he died two years later. Xu Ji, a grandson of the artist, says the exhibition shows Xu Beihong's "spiritual legacy of believing in people's strength as the creator of history and the fundamental force of social development". 作业形式及参考答案: 第 16 页 共 27 页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 作业二:群文阅读(2+1课中基础性作业): 阅读 Developing ideas(韩干)完成导学案上的思维导图,获取和梳理韩干艺术 家的人生经历,分析人物品质。 作业形式及参考答案: 作业三:以大都会艺术博物馆的导游身份,直播介绍韩干及其作品(课中发展性 作业)。 Imagine you are a tour guide in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and you will introduce Han Gan and his work live on your mobile phone. 参考答案: Welcome, art enthusiasts, to the Metropolitan Museum of Art!
