Clicking on the “Find jobs” link will take you to the list of current job postings and help you make career choices. Nurse Practitioner Average hourly wage: $56. 00 Nurse practitioners can perform many of the tasks that doctors do, such as creating treatment plans for patients and managing medical records. The big difference is that nurse practitioners cannot prescribe medications in most states. To become a nurse practitioner, you will need a graduate degree in nursing along with the appropriate licenses for the states in which you work. Data Scientist Average hourly wage: $52. 00 From car rental companies to telecommunication businesses, data scientists analyze the information to figure out the best ways for their businesses to be more successful. The job duties include identifying what types of business and customer data are worth gathering, then checking whether the information is accurate. It’s a big job that generally requires eight working hours a day and professional skills in mathematics. Web Developer Average hourly wage: $38. 00 Most people rely on the Internet to stay informed and connected with our communities. Web developers make sure those sites function properly while also updating them to include new functions that make them easier to use. Most of the work can be done remotely, which is favored by young people. Choreographer(编舞师) Average hourly wage: $20. 00 Maybe it’s the popularity of viral dance videos on TikTok that brings about the increasing demand in recent years. In addition to instructing trainees and performing on the stage and in the film, they work on smaller events such as weddings and other family gatherings. No degree is necessary to work in this field, but you will need some training and rhythm. 1. How much will a data scientist get per day on average? A. $52. B. $56. C. $416. D. $448. 2. Which one is suitable for those who prefer to work from home? A. Data scientist. B. Web developer. C. Choreographer. D. Nurse practitioner. 3. What do we know about choreographers? A. They can earn at least $20 per hour. B. They need to get a degree before work. C. They make money by making dance videos. D They are gaining popularity owing to social media. C 2. B 3. 根据Web Developer中的“Most of the work can be done remotely, which is favored by young people.(大部分工作都可以远程完成,受到年轻人的青睐。)” 根据Choreographer中的“Maybe it’s the popularity of viral dance videos on TikTok that brings about the increasing demand in recent years.(也许是TikTok上病毒式舞蹈视频的流行带来了近年来不断增长的需求。)” B As my head moved up and down on the Zoom screen, private messages poured in from my colleagues: “What are you doing there?” “Are you sitting on a ball?” “Are you walking?” I could feel their eyes on me — inquiring, interested, confused. Clearly, this wasn’t a normal faculty meeting. I replied I was walking on my new under desk treadmill (跑步机). I didn’t have to worry about workday inactivity earlier in my career. As a graduate student and postdoc, I went on frequent field excursions to collect soil samples in remote places. The fieldwork was physically challenging, a contrast to the lab tasks and desk work that were also part of my job. But when I became a professor, fieldwork became a rarity. During the pandemic the situation grew worse. My schedule filled up with one online meeting or seminar after the next. And I “traveled” to them without leaving my desk. Although I had the luxury of a height-adjustable desk, which gave me the option to stand, I still felt unbalanced, and I began to experience back pain. At home, I’d occasionally tried to work on my wife’s treadmill, which I’d repurposed by putting a wooden board across the handles and my laptop on top. I thought that might be just what I needed in my campus office, so I bought a treadmill designed to go under a desk. I decided to spend my entire workday on the treadmill. It took me several days to adjust, but I eventually got the hang of typing and speaking while walking. When I’m at my desk, I spend nearly all of my working hours in motion. In the first couple of weeks, I was a bit exhausted when I got home at night. But over time, I developed more endurance. My back pain disappeared and I came to enjoy the time at my desk. Most of the scientists I work with have sent me reassuring feedback. Some have even bought treadmills of their own. That has made me view my walking as a way to silently communicate a crucial message to my colleagues: There’re always ways to stay active if you want! 4. How did the author begin the writing of the text? A. By introducing some of his colleagues. B. By showing his academic qualifications. C. By displaying his new under desk treadmill. D. By listing private messages from his colleagues. 5. What resulted in the author’s worse inactivity? A. Frequent interviews. B. Busy remote office work. C. His peaceful lifestyle. D. His hatred of fieldwork. 6. How did the author get inspiration of his walk-work style? A. From his colleagues. B. From his college life. C. From his use of his wife’s treadmill. D. From his wife’s practical proposal. 7. Which can best describe most colleagues’ reaction to the author’s practice? A. Positive. B. Uncaring. C. Skeptical. D. Conservative. D 5. B 6. C 7. 根据第一段前三句“As my head moved up and down on the Zoom screen, private messages poured in from my colleagues: “What are you doing there?” “Are you sitting on a ball?” “Are you walking?”(当我的头在Zoom屏幕上上下移动时,同事们发来了大量私信:“你在那里做什么?”“你坐在一个球上吗?”“你在走路吗?”)”可知,作者通过列出同事的私人信息开始写这篇文章。故选D。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“During the pandemic the situation grew worse. My schedule filled up with one online meeting or seminar after the next. And I “traveled” to them without leaving my desk. Although I had the luxury of a height-adjustable desk, which gave me the option to stand, I still felt unbalanced, and I began to experience back pain.(在疫情期间,情况变得更糟。我的日程表被一个接一个的在线会议或研讨会填满了。我没有离开办公桌就“旅行”到了他们那里。虽然我有一张可调节高度的桌子,可以选择站立,但我仍然感到失衡,而且我开始感到背部疼痛。)”可知,繁忙的远程办公室工作导致作者更不活跃。故选B。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段前两句“At home, I’d occasionally tried to work on my wife’s treadmill, which I’d repurposed by putting a wooden board across the handles and my laptop on top. I thought that might be just what I needed in my campus office, so I bought a treadmill designed to go under a desk.(在家里,我偶尔会尝试在我妻子的跑步机上工作,我在把手上放了一块木板,把笔记本电脑放在上面,对它进行了改造。我想这可能正是我在校园办公室所需要的,所以我买了一台设计在桌子下面的跑步机。)”可知,作者在用妻子的跑步机时获得了步行工作风格的灵感。故选C。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段前两句“Most of the scientists I work with have sent me reassuring feedback. Some have even bought treadmills of their own.(和我一起工作的大多数科学家都给了我令人放心的反馈。有些人甚至买了自己的跑步机。)”可知,大多数同事对作者做法的反应都是积极的。故选A。 C A handshake seems to be a normal gesture. In fact, in the 9th century BC, an ancient site during the ruling of Shalmaneser III clearly shows two figures holding hands. The Iliad, usually dated to the 8th century BC, mentions that two characters “taking each other’s hands and expressing their loyalty.” Centuries later, Shakespeare once wrote of two characters who shook hands and swore to be brothers in the book As You Like It. Shaking hands seems to be an ancient custom whose roots have disappeared in the sands of time. Historians who have studied ancient etiquette (礼仪) books note that the modern handshake did not appear until the middle of the 19th century, when it was considered a slightly inappropriate gesture that could only be used between friends. But what if Shakespeare had written about handshaking hundreds of years earlier? According to author Torbjdm Lundmark in his Tales of Hi and Bye: Greeting and Parting Rituals Around the World. the problem comes in differing definitions of the handshake. The early handshakes mentioned above were part of making deals or peace; King Shalmaneser III referred to a rebellion in which he signed a treaty with the King of Babylon. In the Iliad, Diomedes and Glaucus shook hands when they realized they were guest-friends, and Diomedes declared: 66Lefs not try to kill each other. Shakespeare was similarly referencing settlement of a conflict. The modern handshake as a form of greeting is harder to trace. As a Dutch sociologist Herman Roodenburg — the chief authority for the history of handshaking ——wrote in a chapter of an anthology called A Cultural History of Gesture, “More than in any other field, that of the study of gesture is one in which the historian has to make the most of only a few clues”. One of the earliest clues he cites is a 16th-century German translation of the French writer Rabelais’s Gargantua and Pantagruel. When one character meets Gargantua, Rabelais writes, ”He was greeted by countless hugs and countless good days.” But according to Roodenburg, the 16th-century German translation added references to shaking hands. A popular saying suggests that Cleland’s statements against bowing were actually a wish to go back to a potentially traditional method of greeting in Europe. As the centuries progressed, handshaking was replaced by more hierarchical (等级的)ways of greeting - like bowing. According to Roodenburg, handshaking survived in a few remote places, like in Dutch towns where some would use the gesture to make peace after disagreements. Around the same time, those who valued equality also made use of handshaking. Then, as the Continent’s hierarchy was weakened, handshaking became a common practice among people of the same rank, as it is today. 8. Why does the author mention Shakespeare in the first two paragraphs? A. To prove that the history of handshaking is hard to find. B. To illustrate that handshaking is a very old custom. C. To show readers that handshaking is common in fiction. D. To explain the value of handshaking in communication. 9. What can we learn about handshaking from the passage? A. The origin of handshaking as a form of greeting is easy to trace. B. Citizens usually shake hands to show friendliness in Holland. C. It was used only between friends and to reach an agreement. D. It is a common practice between people of different social positions. 10. Which of the following is similar in meaning to “anthology” in Para. 4? A. the science of mental ability B. a collection of selected literary passages C. a daily written record of experiences D. all the living things of a particular region 11. What can be inferred from the last paragraph of the passage? A. The handshake has disappeared in some remote parts of the Netherlands. B. Handshaking has different meanings in different European countries. C. Handshakes are now common between people of different positions. D. Most Europeans prefer to shake hands owing to the weakening effect of rank. B 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第一段中“Centuries later, Shakespeare once wrote of two characters who shook hands and swore to be brothers in the book As You Like It. Shaking hands seems to be an ancient custom whose roots have disappeared in the sands of time.(几个世纪后,莎士比亚曾在《皆大欢喜》中描写两个人物握手并发誓要成为兄弟。 以及第二段中“But what if Shakespeare had written about handshaking hundreds of years earlier?(但是,如果莎士比亚早在几百年前就写过握手呢?)” 根据第二段中“Historians who have studied ancient etiquette (礼仪) books note that the modem handshake did not appear until the middle of the 19th century, when it was considered a slightly inappropriate gesture that could only be used between friends.(研究古代礼仪书籍的历史学家指出,现代握手直到19世纪中叶才出现,当时它被认为是一种稍微不合适的手势,只能在朋友之间使用。)” 同时根据第四段中“The early handshakes mentioned above were part of making deals or peace(上面提到的早期握手是达成协议或和平的一部分)”以及“Shakespeare was similarly referencing settlement of a conflict.(莎士比亚也同样提到了冲突的解决。)” 根据划线词后面的内容“A Cultural History of Gesture(手势的文化史)”以及“More than in any other field, that of the study of gesture is one in which the historian has to make the most of only a few clues(在手势研究领域,历史学家只需要充分利用少数线索,这一点在其他任何领域都不常见)”可知,荷兰社会学家赫尔曼·卢登堡所撰写的著作即《手势的文化史》中的一个章节指出在手势研究领域,历史学家只需要充分利用少数线索,这一点在其他任何领域都不常见的事实。 根据最后一段中“Around the same time, those who valued equality also made use of handshaking. Then, as the Continent’s hierarchy was weakened, handshaking became a common practice among people of the same rank, as it is today.(大约在同一时期,那些重视平等的人也会使用握手。 D。 D How do people cope with (应付) climate change? According to a new study led by University of Arizona researcher Sabrina Helm, there are two climate change coping groups: adaptive approach coping and maladaptive avoidance coping. About 70 percent of survey respondents belonged to the first group - the adaptive approach coping. They tended to have higher levels of environmental concern and were more likely to engage in environmental protection activities. The remaining 30 percent were in the maladaptive avoidance coping group. They were less likely than those in the first group to feel guilt or personal responsibility for climate change. They were less likely to take action on climate change or believe that their actions would make a difference. The researchers wondered whether people in the adaptive approach group - who tend to feel more climate-related stress - would have worse mental health overall, since previous studies have linked environmental stress to negative mental health outcomes. Surprisingly, Helm said, they found no differences between the two groups regarding overall health, anxiety or depressive symptoms. There also were not significant differences in the demographic (人口统计的) makeup of the two groups when it came to factors such as race, income, education level or employment status. The fact that the demographics of the two groups were so similar suggests that targeting climate-change-related messaging based on demographic information alone might not be the most effective strategy, Helm said. While it might be tougher to do, determining a person’s climate change coping group could be more useful for those attempting to communicate environmental issues and what people can do to make a difference. “If you think in terms of messaging about climate change, very often you look at social demographic targeting, and that’s not very useful because those two groups should probably be receiving different kinds of messaging,” Helm said. “Those who are already taking action on climate change need encouragement to continue that behavior, while those who are in the maladaptive avoidance coping group need to be encouraged to start doing something.” 12. How is the adaptive approach coping group different from the other group? A. In their attitude toward climate change. B. In their experience with climate change. C. In their strategy for dealing with climate change. D. In their achievements in dealing with climate change. 13. How did the two climate coping groups surprise the researchers? A. They felt no climate-related anxiety. B. They looked at climate change differently. C. They didn’t differ in mental and general health. D. Neither showed concern for climate change. 14. Why is demographic information alone not that effective in targeting climate-change-related messaging? A. It is useless for fighting climate change. B. It only explains the demographic makeup. C. It fails to deal with climate anxiety. D. It is not obvious enough to separate the two groups. 15. What does Helm suggest when it comes to messaging about climate change? A. All the messaging should be positive. B. All the messaging should be reasonable. C. There should be different kinds of messaging for everyone. D. Climate change messaging should be tailored for different people. A 13. C 14. D 15. 根据第二段“They tended to have higher levels of environmental concern and were more likely to engage in environmental protection activities. 故选A。 根据第四段“Surprisingly, Helm said, they found no differences between the two groups regarding overall health, anxiety or depressive symptoms. 根据第五段“The fact that the demographics of the two groups were so similar suggests that targeting climate-change-related messaging based on demographic information alone might not be the most effective strategy, Helm said. 根据最后一段““If you think in terms of messaging about climate change, very often you look at social demographic targeting, and that’s not very useful because those two groups should probably be receiving different kinds of messaging,” Helm said. “Those who are already taking action on climate change need encouragement to continue that behavior, while those who are in the maladaptive avoidance coping group need to be encouraged to start doing something.”(赫尔姆说:“如果你从气候变化的信息传递角度考虑,你通常会考虑社会人口目标,这不是很有用,因为这两个群体可能会收到不同类型的信息。 If you are a person who remains busy in work and pays no attention to your health and well-being, you may experience stress, depression, and anxiety. In our childhood, how often did we turn a deaf ear to our parents’ advice? Very often! Thus, we landed ourselves in a situation where we greatly regretted our act of not having listened to the advice of the wise. Such an unforgettable experience I had at the age of 7 gave me an invaluable lesson, after which I deeply understood why my gentle mother was repeating the boring suggestions and I would try to take her suggestions seriously. In my childhood, I was so crazy about nature that even playing among the colorful flowers in our garden could make my day. Our house was next to the woods which had always stirred up(激起) great curiosity in me in wanting to find out what was within. Every time I saw fascinating butterflies dancing from the woods, my curiosity grew. But my mother didn’t like me wandering off on my own and always ensured that I was within her sight. Even if she allowed me to explore the surrounding area on my own, it was only to be somewhere near the house. Being as curious as the cat, I always desired to explore the woods. It seemed as if my mother had understood my desire, so she had warmed me on lots of occasions never to enter the woods alone. “Mom, can I go out and play in the garden?” I asked. “Sure,” she would reply each time. “Kate, you can play in the garden but you must promise me one thing—only when I’m with you can you go into the woods. There are no cases of animal attacks on humans, but it’s still dangerous for a little kid like you. It’s too easy to get lost in the woods.” “Sure, you’ve said that many times!” I answered without patience at her repeated reminders. However, curiosity got the better of me one morning. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Kate?” Behind the trees covered by the rays of the setting sun came my mother’s voice. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文 1 However, curiosity got the better of me one morning. Ignoring my mother’s reminder, I slid into the forbidden world. How fascinating! Among various colorful flowers danced butterflies. With excitement, I chased after the graceful creatures, running deeper into the woods. Suddenly they flew over trees and disappeared. What’s worse, I got lost! I rushed around, crying for help, frightened and helpless, but in vain. I repeated the useless efforts until sunset. “If only I followed Mom’s reminder!” I curled up under a tree, in bitter regret and cried again. “Kate?” Behind the trees covered by the rays of the setting sun came my mother’s voice. “Mom! I’m here!” Wild with joy, I rushed towards where the voice came from. Behind a tree appeared my mother. She dashed up, hugged me tight and checked whether I got hurt. “I’m so sorry! I should have appreciated your suggestion!” I burst into tears. Wiping tears from my muddy face, she repeated the reminders, which weren’t boring any more, but wise and affectionate, and were implanted in my life forever. 2 However, curiosity got the better of me one morning. I summoned up my courage and decided to take a chance. Hardly had I entered the woods when I was totally attracted by the sight. The wandering clouds, the blooming flowers and the vigorous trees all kept me spellbound. At the sight of a beautiful butterfly, I tiptoed along the path, bent over, cupped my hands gently and danced with it down the track. Time flew and before I knew it, I was deep in the woods, unable to find the way out. With a feeling of horror totally holding me in its power, I squatted down under a tree, tears rolling down my cheeks. “Kate?” Behind the trees covered by the rays of the setting sun came my mother’s voice. Hearing my mom’s voice, I yelled in a quivering tone, rushed towards her direction and threw my arms around her. Noticing my misty eyes, she patted me on the shoulders and checked whether I got hurt. Choked with emotion, I whispered, “I am OK, Mom. I will never go into the woods without your company and permission.” Shooting me an approving look, she added, “Next time you want to come, keep me informed!” In the setting sun, we headed back and this time, I held my mom’s hand tightly. 词类激活 行为类 ①哭:cry/weep/burst into tears ②拥抱:hug/embrace ③跑:rush/dash/run 情绪类 ①迷人的:fascinating/charming/attractive/fascinating ②兴奋:excitement/stimulation ③快乐:joy/delight/happiness 【点睛】【高分句型1】She dashed up, hugged me tight and checked whether I got hurt. B As my head moved up and down on the Zoom screen, private messages poured in from my colleagues: “What are you doing there?” “Are you sitting on a ball?” “Are you walking?” I could feel their eyes on me — inquiring, interested, confused. C A handshake seems to be a normal gesture. D How do people cope with (应付) climate change? According to a new study led by University of Arizona researcher Sabrina Helm, there are two climate change coping groups: adaptive approach coping and maladaptive avoidance coping. About 70 percent of survey respondents belonged to the first group - the adaptive approach coping. They tended to have higher levels of environmental concern and were more likely to engage in environmental protection activities. The remaining 30 percent were in the maladaptive avoidance coping group. They were less likely than those in the first group to feel guilt or personal responsibility for climate change. They were less likely to take action on climate change or believe that their actions would make a difference. The researchers wondered whether people in the adaptive approach group - who tend to feel more climate-related stress - would have worse mental health overall since previous studies have linked environmental stress to negative mental health outcomes. If you are a person who remains busy in work and pays no attention to your health and well-being, you may experience stress, depression, and anxiety. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 听力 1—5 CABCC 6—10 ABACB 11—15 BCACB 16—20 AACBB 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
