Native plants planted by the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia near the GA-10 Loop in Athens, Ga., are changing the area from being covered in kudzu back to a more natural state.
The project, funded by Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful, was planted in November 2021. Volunteers and students from the UGA College of Environment and Design all participated to plant the area along the entrance ramp (斜坡) next to the GA-10 Loop at Milledge Avenue.
Zach Wood, the grasslands coordinator (协调人) at the State Botanical Garden, said all the plants chosen for the project are native to Georgia. He said that they selected hardy species of plants they felt pretty confident would survive. In total, 22 native plant species are planted at the site.
“Native plants function to support their ecosystem, and that’s important because our roadsides are turning into monocultures of non-native species that don’t support our native wildlife,” Wood said.
He added that non-native species don’t filter (过滤) water as well as native species, which is significant on roadsides to handle stormwater runoff.
When they’ve checked on the plants, all the species planted were established and growing. Wood said there was concern the plants would succumb to drought, but the value of native plants is their ability to survive in stressful conditions.
The team doesn’t water the area at all.
“It would go against the spirit of doing it, “Wood said. “We’re trying to figure out the least effort to put native plants back into a place that’s been kind of beat up.”
“This project is so important because it’s so visible,” Wood said. “It’s going to demonstrate an alternative way of managing roadsides.”
“We’re always looking for ways to make things sustainable,” said Richard Littleton, state agronomist (农学家) manager at GDOT. “The more we can do that’s natural, it helps everything. It’s the right thing to do to be a good caretaker of our lands.”
4. Why was kudzu replaced?
A. Ugly-looking. B. Too large. C. Nonnative. D. Artificial.
5. What does the underlined phrase “succumb to” in paragraph 6 mean?
A. Survive from. B. Give in to. C. Add to. D. Get rid of.
6. In what aspect is the project the most beneficial?
A. Environmentally. B. Financially. C. Academically. D. Politically.
7. Which of the following is the most suitable title for the text?
A. Planting Green Species at Roadside Areas.
B. Choosing Right Plants to Support Ecosystem.
C. Replacing Non-native Species for Survival.
D. Restoring Native Plants to Roadside Areas.

Imagine if you could look into the future and see yourself 50 years from now. You could see the wrinkles on your face, how your hair would gray, and how the very shape of your face would change after decades of life. You would be able to see how you might look to your future grandchildren.
It sounds like something out of a fairytale. But a viral “Aged” filter (滤镜) on TikTok is allowing users to look into the face of their future selves.
The new filter uses AI to estimate what your face will look like as you age, and dermatologists (皮肤学家) on TikTok are calling it “very accurate”. But the response, especially among young people using the filter, shows a deep fear within Gen Z of getting, and more importantly, looking old.
What does the filter do?
The filter, which has over 9 million videos on TikTok, provides a picture of users’ faces with realistic aging, including wrinkles, crow’s feet and often gray hair. The filter looks different for each person and uses AI to enhance existing facial features, like under-eye bags or wrinkles, to estimate how their face will age.
TikTok is not the first app to release an aging filter. Snapchat released a similar filter back in 2019, and users similarly used FaceApp to age themselves.
Even Kylie Jenner immediately joined in the trend saying simply “I don’t like it. I don’t like it at all.”
Others disagree about how much the filter ages them, comparing their aged face to other users. Some have used the filter on old photos of their parents or celebrities and compared the filter’s results to how they look today.
Others, however, have taken a more loving approach to their future selves. Many users express shock at how similar they look to relatives and others express excitement for the years ahead.
8. What is the function of the first paragraph?
A. To supply a scientific fact. B. To arouse the reader’s interest.
C. To provide a good example. D. To share the theory of the filter.
9. Why does the writer say “looking old” instead of “getting old” at the end of paragraph 3?
A. Their ages don’t really change.
B. There’s no real difference between them.
C. “Looking old” sounds more polite.
D. “Getting old” sounds a little more boring.
10. Why is Kylie Jenner mentioned in the text?
A To introduce another opinion. B. To try to please her true fans.
C. To emphasize the wide use. D. To prove the truth of the technique.
11. How do people react to how much the filter ages them?
A. Angrily. B. Similarly. C. Excitedly. D. Differently.
D
When you take pictures, you tend to enjoy fun experiences less. Taking pictures hurts. “Most people don’t think it hurts. Certainly, this isn’t obvious to people,” LeBoeuf says. A group of 111 people (ages 19-70, 51 percent male) took surveys online, asking simply if photographing highly enjoyable experiences (a) increases, (b) decreases, or (c) has no effect on enjoyment. Some 51.4 percent thought it had no effect. But 27.9 percent believed it increased enjoyment, compared to 21.6 percent who said it decreased enjoyment.
When others told them about negative things, a majority (59.8 percent) of the same pool noted picture-taking had reduced their enjoyment of some experiences.
A group of 152 people (ages 17-23, 61 percent female) watched a 10-minute, immersive video clip (短片) featuring vivid footage of extremely poisonous snakes and jellyfish. Some simply watched, while others were told to watch and take pictures — “like we often do on, say, vacations,” LeBoeuf says. In this survey, they used an on-screen button to take photos they like, which they didn’t know was a trick. Asked to rate their enjoyment, participants who only watched the video enjoyed the experience significantly more, at 72.6 on a 100-point scale, than those occasionally “taking” pictures, 63.8.
When asked to take photos not just for yourself, but ultimately to share — such as on social media — people’s enjoyment was further reduced. As LeBoeuf says, “Thinking ‘Oh, I have to post these’ makes it even harder to enjoy the experience.” Some 162 people (ages 18-38, 61 percent female) broke down thusly: 83.7 enjoyment when only watching, 76.2 when taking personal pictures, 73.5 when taking photos to share.
Using 194 people (ages 18-40, 59 percent female), taking pictures scored a 27.8 on the enjoyment scale compared to 25.6 simply watching when the experience was an ordinary video of a Florida park tour. However, the experience mattered: When participants watched the much more enjoyable snakes-and-jellyfish video, they scored a 79.4 for simply watching and a 69.4 for picture-taking, again showing how the latter takes away an enjoyable experience.
12. What does the first survey indicate about taking pictures?
A. Most people thought it to be positive or ineffective just on the surface alone.
B. Most people thought it hurt when they were not reminded of negative effects.
C. More people believed it increased their enjoyment without being told about it.
D. More people believed it didn’t remove their enjoyment even if told everything.
13. Who will be influenced most according to the surveys?
A. Younger females watching a less funny video.
B. People watching a moderately enjoyable video.
C. People who want to share a highly enjoyable video.
D. Older males watching a comparatively funny video.
14. Why does the writer add age and gender information after each group of subjects?
A. To show different backgrounds. B. To prove the reliability.
C. To indicate the randomness. D. To confirm their identity.
15. What can we conclude from the text?
A. Taking photos can dull your fun experiences.
B. Picture-taking actually doesn’t have much effect.
C. Effect varies a lot depending on males or females.
D. Further more surveys are needed for the conclusion.

Having been down on myself and unhappy in my marriage I spent the week not being very nice to anyone in my family. I felt myself distancing myself from those people that were not the root of my anger. Those little people with sweet innocent eyes were wondering why there was no love in her actions. I pushed my daughter away as she tried to hug me. Though I saw the pain in her eyes, I didn’t know how to change what I was feeling. I saw more pain in their little eyes when I served them dinner and turned and walked out of the room and didn’t join them for their last meal of the day.
For years I had made such a big deal out of having dinner as a family but during this time of heartache that I was experiencing I just couldn’t bring myself to be with them. I began to feel angry with them. It would be so easy to change my life without having them to think about. And how many times had I heard that I needed to do what was best for the kids? Did nobody care what was best for me?
Then I watched a show on TV that made me realize what I was doing to these poor kids. During this time of self pity, I was leaving them a memory, a bad memory that they could look back on. I didn’t want that to happen. I needed to pull myself up by the bootstrings and get out of the pity pot. I needed to take control of my own life. Not only for my own sake but for my kids too.
That night I went to sleep with calm thoughts in my head. The issues in my marriage had not been resolved but the issues I had with myself had. I knew what I had to do to better my life and my children’s too.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
The next morning I prepared and ate breakfast with my three wonderful kids.

根据第一段“Native plants planted by the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia near the GA-10 Loop in Athens, Ga. , are changing the area from being covered in kudzu back to a more natural state.”(佐治亚州雅典市GA -10环线附近乔治亚大学乔治亚州立植物园种植的本土植物,正在将葛草覆盖的地区恢复到更自然的状态。)以及第三段中“Zach Wood, the grasslands coordinator (协调人) at the State Botanical Garden, said all the plants chosen for the project are native to Georgia.”(扎克·伍德是州立植物园的草原协调员,他说所有为这个项目选择的植物都是格鲁吉亚本土的。)
根据第六段中“but the value of native plants is their ability to survive in stressful conditions.”(但本土植物的价值在于它们在压力条件下生存的能力。)以及第七段“The team doesn’t water the area at all.”(这支队伍根本不给这片区域浇水。)
根据最后一段““We’re always looking for ways to make things sustainable,” said Richard Littleton, state agronomist (农学家) manager at GDOT. “The more we can do that’s natural, it helps everything. It’s the right thing to do to be a good caretaker of our lands.””(“我们一直在寻找可持续发展的方法,”GDOT的州农学家(农学家)经理理查德·利特尔顿(Richard Littleton)说。“我们做得越自然,对一切都有帮助。这是我们管好自己土地的正确做法。”)可推知,这个项目在环保方面最有利。故选A项。
根据文章大意以及第一段“Native plants planted by the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at the University of Georgia near the GA-10 Loop in Athens, Ga. , are changing the area from being covered in kudzu back to a more natural state.”(佐治亚州雅典市GA -10环线附近乔治亚大学乔治亚州立植物园种植的本土植物,正在将葛草覆盖的地区恢复到更自然的状态。)

A. To introduce another opinion. B. To try to please her true fans.
C. To emphasize the wide use. D. To prove the truth of the technique.
11. How do people react to how much the filter ages them?
A. Angrily. B. Similarly. C. Excitedly. D. Differently.
B 9. A 10. C 11. D

根据第一段“Imagine if you could look into the future and see yourself 50 years from now. You could see the wrinkles on your face, how your hair would gray, and how the very shape of your face would change after decades of life. You would be able to see how you might look to your future grandchildren.”(想象一下,如果你能看到未来,看到50年后的自己。
根据第三段中“But the response, especially among young people using the filter, shows a deep fear within Gen Z of getting, and more importantly, looking old.”(但人们的反应,尤其是使用滤镜的年轻人的反应,显示出Z世代对变老,更重要的是,对看起来变老的一种深深的恐惧。) 故选A项。
根据第六段“TikTok is not the first app to release an aging filter. Snapchat released a similar filter back in 2019, and users similarly used FaceApp to age themselves.”(TikTok并不是第一个发布老化过滤器的应用。 以及第七段“Even Kylie Jenner immediately joined in the trend saying simply “I don’t like it. I don’t like it at all.””(就连凯莉·詹娜也立即加入了这一潮流,她说:“我不喜欢它。”
根据倒数第二段“Others disagree about how much the filter ages them, comparing their aged face to other users. Some have used the filter on old photos of their parents or celebrities and compared the filter’s results to how they look today.”(其他人则不同意滤镜对他们的老化程度,他们将自己的脸与其他用户进行了比较。 以及最后一段“Others, however, have taken a more loving approach to their future selves. Many users express shock at how similar they look to relatives and others express excitement for the years ahead.”(然而,其他人对未来的自己采取了更有爱心的方式。
A 13. C 14. B 15. A

由文章第一段中“Certainly, this isn’t obvious to people,” LeBoeuf says. 故选A。
由文章第四段“When asked to take photos not just for yourself, but ultimately to share—such as on social media—people’s enjoyment was further reduced.
由文章第一段中“A group of 111 people (ages 19-70, 51 percent male) took surveys online, asking simply if photographing highly enjoyable experiences (a) increases, (b) decreases, or (c) has no effect on enjoyment. (一组111人(年龄在19-70岁之间,51%是男性)在网上进行了调查,简单地询问拍摄非常愉快的经历是(a)增加了,(b)减少了,还是(c)对享受没有影响。)”第三段中“A group of 152 people (ages 17-23, 61 percent female) watched a 10-minute, immersive video clip (短片) featuring vivid footage of extremely poisonous snakes and jellyfish. (一组152人(年龄在17-23岁之间,61%是女性)观看了一段10分钟的沉浸式视频片段,其中有剧毒蛇和水母的生动画面。)”、最后一段中“Using 194 people (ages 18-40, 59 percent female), taking pictures scored a 27.8 on the enjoyment scale compared to 25.6 simply watching when the experience was an ordinary video of a Florida park tour. (调查对象为194人(年龄在18-40岁之间,其中59%为女性),拍照的乐趣得分为27.8分,而观看佛罗里达公园游览的普通视频得分为25.6分。)”可知,提供年龄和性别信息主要是为了展示研究样本的多样性和代表性,这有助于增强研究结果的可靠性。故选B。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据文中的多个实验结果,尤其是最后一段中“However, the experience mattered: When participants watched the much more enjoyable snakes-and-jellyfish video, they scored a 79.4 for simply watching and a 69.4 for picture-taking, again showing how the latter takes away an enjoyable experience. (然而,体验很重要:当参与者观看更令人愉快的蛇和水母视频时,他们在单纯观看方面的得分为79.4分,在拍照方面的得分为69.4分,这再次表明后者是如何带走愉快体验的。)”可知,不论是沉浸式视频体验还是普通视频体验,拍照行为普遍降低了参与者的享受程度,尤其是在高度有趣的体验中。因此,选项A“Taking photos can dull your fun experiences.(拍照会减弱你的乐趣体验)”是最恰当的总结。故选A。

注意:

My story told me a lot.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The next morning, I prepared and ate breakfast with my three wonderful kids. As we sat around the table, I looked into their eyes and saw their innocence and love for me. With a smile, I apologized for my recent behavior and promised to be more present and loving. They hugged me tightly, forgiving me instantly. From that moment on, I vowed to make every meal a family affair, to cherish these precious moments, and to create happy memories for them. I realized that my happiness was intertwined with theirs, and by prioritizing our family time, I was not only improving their lives but mine as well.
My story told me a lot. It taught me that self-pity and anger only lead to isolation and pain, whereas love and forgiveness bring us closer together. I learned that as a parent, my actions and attitudes shape my children’s memories and their perception of love. Most importantly, I understood that taking control of my life and happiness is not just for my own sake but for the sake of my children, who deserve a happy and loving mother. This realization transformed me, and I am grateful for the wake-up call that helped me rediscover the joy of being a parent and the importance of family.
